So my friends and I are talking about starting a new campaign featuring an adventuring guild/mercenary band consisting of the following races:

- Catfolk
- Grippli
- Kitsune
- Nagaji
- Ratfolk
- Rougarou
- Tengu
- Vanara
- Vishkanya
- possibly a few other anthropomorphic races I didn't think to include

We were hoping to get some help brainstorming some names for our group.

We're still very early in the planning stages right now, so I apologize for not having more information to guide you.

Well, first off, with a Grippli, a Nagaji, a Tengu and a Vishkanya half the party seems to be scaly/rubbery, not furry.

Some form of address that isn't 'furry' might be a viable suggestion?

Beastfolk something something

Something something Beasty Kin?

Many people use the word Anthro too.

the Beastie Boys (if all male)

DEVO (as in "Are We Not Men? We Are DEVO!" You know, since you're Not Men.)

Monstrosity Mercs

Beastie Boys is an awesome name!

Fur, Feather and Scales.
The Monstrous Regiment.

Is it a general adventuring group, or is there a more specific purpose or expertise?

The Menagerie.

Beastie Boys sounds like an evil bandit crew and not a bunch of mercenaries.

I'd rather go with The Feral Footmen.

General rule of naming characters with hair covering their whole body, inspiration may be found in the color of their hair.

I don't know what a Rougarou is and not really sure how a Vishkanya is a furry?

Catfolk - I find Ms anything seems to work, you know how people name their cats Ms something or other. For a less comic route you could use the Kajit naming conventions from Elder Scrolls.

Grippli - Nero, is the name of am emperor who was compared to a frog according to wikipedia. Prince is another good one because of you know, prince and frog.

Kitsune - Moxxi ... rymes with foxy xD literally the first place my head went to.

Nagaji - any name with a sibilant sound. Cecile is a nice one. For some reason Persephone is sticking out. Eve is quite a biblical snake related name.

Ratfolk - no idea.

Tengu - I have one idea and its so s!$& I don't care to share xD

Vanara - Sun, Wu or Kong.

Orang-Pedank - Louis.

EDIT: I may have missed the point of this thread xD

Pet Shop Boys then? Just kidding.

Chromantic Durgon <3, we're looking for help naming the group as a whole, not its individual members.

Fully half of the races listed don't traditionally have fur, true (2 have scales, 1 has rubbery skin, and 1 has feathers; out of the nine total), but I wanted to get people into the thread with an interesting title, so I used an internet buzzword.

We haven't decided on a theme yet, if any, other than the fact we want to all play anthropomorphous races.

Lightning Strike Coalition.

Criteria didn't say it had to be animal related.

Taxa Opportunity?

Cause you're all different species...? Across different phyla...? And searching for opportunities...?

Ok. That's terrible. I'll show myself out.

Dark Archive

The Furry Force?

It's probably best if you don't look it up on youtube.

Stop. Don't. Come back.

Hey yourself, I grew up on this kind of "entertainment": Bamses Billedbog

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Court of the Hunt

Fangs for Hire

Order of the Sunset Vigil

Underleaf Mercs. Incorporated

Regiment of the Wildfyre

Unsigned Militia of Beastly Races United (U.M.B.R.A)

But my personal choice would be:

Chosen Initiates of the Mercenaries Animilia (Ch.I.Mer.A.)

The Furious Five, if there end up being five members?

The Therianthropic Alliance if you are looking for that tone.

Wow.

I somehow feel like if I could just understand that (and I don't mean language barrier issues), I would correlate the contents of my consciousness... opening up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of my frightful position therein, that I would either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age...

Eyup, basic Nordic state-run t.v. children's programming at its finest.

The Animal House maybe? Monster Squad?

(okay I'll stop using movie names)

One time, while running a campaign, one of my PCs had a mercenary group that he named the Brutal Deluxe. It st8ll sticks with me, even after I forgot most of the other details. You could use that.

The Menagerie.
  • So of course, I thought of The Glass Menagerie.

  • But that's a bit... short-lived... so maybe, the Mithral Menagerie?

  • The Zoo Escapees, if we're still thinking light-heartedly.

  • I went Wiki'ing zoos to see if inspiration would strike, and ran across this example of the phrase, "conflict of interest:"
    Wiki under Zoo wrote:
Dublin Zoo was opened in 1831 by members of the medical profession interested in studying animals while they were alive and more particularly getting hold of them when they were dead.

So now I'm thinking there has to be inspiration there, but I sure can't find it!

  • Turnabout Safari

  • The Most Dangerous Game.

  • My husband Debnor says that the classic would be the Animorphs. I sure don't recognize it, but maybe you do.

  • So then he thought of a twist on something I DO consider a classic: Escapees from Dr. Moreau.

  • Or (to come full-circle) the Moreau Menagerie.

You are a terrible person. Leaving that out for people to find.

Even Lamashtu worshipers fear going near that.

    Scions of the Wild.

    "Non-Apes"

(Vanara are monkeys, they have tails.)

Aww...Posting while plastered is so much fun!

    The amazing meowcroakowoowoinks!

    Friends of Humanity.

    Middle-aged Anthro Adventuring critters.

    Dark Archive

I like Beastly Boys (if all male) or Devo, from above.

    The Zoo Crew

    Wild Boys / Wild Things

    Beast-Blooded

    Death and Taxonomy

    Menagerie a Trois

    No Different Flesh

    Teenage Supernatural Mercenary Anthropomorphs

can someone come up with a funny name which forms an appropriate acronym? that'd be funny.

    The Muppet Show.
    Hot and Cold Running Blood.
    Zoological Society.

Haha, I really like this one. Acronyms could be fun too.

    Mighty Morphing Power Rangers? lol.

Mercenary Animal Team Extraction/Extermination Specialists (MATES)

    Friends Of Everyone (FOE)

Yeah, acronyms can be real fun.

Wild Force was a later less dinosaur one xD also sounds more animally. Which isn't a word.

    Acronyms are hard .-.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Demihuman Extraction and Termination Heroes (DEATH)

    Legendary Tails.

Man, there's a lot of good ones in this thread! Keep 'em coming. I'll be sure to share them all with my group.

(And keep it going even if we settle on one; this list will surely help other groups with a similar theme.)

I quite like DEATH xD imagine introducing yourself to quaint villages.
