Dodge (Feat)

Rules Questions

Grand Lodge

Can a PC take the Feat "Dodge" multiple times and stack the effects? Dodge bonuses, afterall, do stack. And it doesn't seem unbalanced to me.

Dark Archive

Unless it's specifically mentioned in a feats description, any feat can only be taken once.

The Exchange

It blows. I'd allow it.

Cant take Dodge multiple times - but you can get Improved Natural Armor multiple times (from the Bestiary if you GM allows it). More balanced as well dodge is superior to natural armor.

Grand Lodge

One could, of course, Houserule it.

But I wanted to put this in the Rules Forum becasue I wanted to see what the RAW people say.

(Then I'll decide my Houserule.)

-- I thought of this only yesterday when looking at a Monk (A Player is gonna run one in my upcoming Campaign.). A Monk gets bonus Feats as a Class Feature and one of the choices is Dodge.

I was wondering (and I forgot to include this in my OP) if one could take Dodge and then, as a Monk Bonus Class Feat, take it again.

Doesn't the apg have a feat like greater dodge that gives a stackable dodge effect? Perhaps I imagined that. Though it would only be a +2 total it's still along the lines of what you're talking about.

Grand Lodge

I'm pretty sure that was just your imagination.

I haven't seen it.

(Could it have been from the APG playtests??? If so then it was left out for a reason.)

Liberty's Edge

Many feats state whether they can be taken multiple times. There does not appear to be a default guideline for taking feats more than once. It seams reasonable that a feat can only be taken once unless the feat says otherwise.

I miss the old 3.X dodge. Sure it sucked when compared to PF dodge, but choosing the opponent against which you gain a +1 dodge bonus to AC was fun. I like ''targeting'' feats and I would like to see more of them in Ultimate Combat.

In an ongoing 3.X campaing, I'm playing a fighter with dodge, mobility, chosen foe and shield specialization. Sometimes I provoke an AoO from an opponent just for the fun of seeing him miss and, at the same time, giving my buddies the opportunity to surround him without fear of provoking an AoO from him, unless he has combat reflexes. (;

I along with i think Most people often forgot that it was there. Round by Roudnd situational Bonuses? no thanks!

On paper you're right, but in the game I'm playing we use miniatures, and I use two different markers (I use the little plastic ring that you can find around a soft drink's bottle neck: it's cheap, it has the perfect size and it comes in different colors) that I put on the target of my dodge feat and on my chosen foe. In that way, I never forget against which opponent I have a +1 dodge bonus on AC.

As far as RAW, you can't take the same Feat more than once unless it specifies you can. (see: Fleet)

Yes/no, yes in that it stacks with dodge, no in that it is only to prevent critical hits.

But the Loremaster Secret "Dodge" is not the same as the Feat "Dodge," yes??? A Loremaster with the Dodge Feat can make his Secret "Dodge."

This kind of thinking is where I was coming up with this question: Dodge bonuses stack .... A Monk has a bonus Feat where he can, among other choices, get Dodge .... A Loremaster can, among other Secrets, choose Dodge. I'm sure there's probably a Rogue Talent out there, too, that gives Dodge (not that I've seen it, but...). And probably even a Rage Power and Fighter alt. class feature, who knows.

So I figured that since Dodge bonuses stack and since there's so many different designs with Dodge options, maybe one could just take the Feat a few times -- it's not unbalanced.

A bonus feat is still a feat. If you want it to stack just houserule it, it's not broken.
