FINALLY saw the I-Hate-Bards item.
Understandable if they've had a run-in with a higher level big bad bard run by a wily GM.
I'm guess it was Gregori in Kingmaker. I ran Gregori like a Tea Party candidate... my players still get a spark of murder in their eyes when he is mentioned. Jeff pickled his head in a jar and would occasionally "speak with dead" it which is not normally permissible but it was a witch thus thematically appropriate.

Yeah, but there is some difference between an item that benefits anyone with sneak attack (still a subset, but it includes rogues, ninja, certain alchemist and bard archetypes and some prestige classes) and something that only benefits "Rogues". Why exclude the other classes?
Also don't forget we are not looking for "good enough for a book of magical items", we are looking for "wow, amazing, great job". A lot of the pre-existing items are "good enough for the book", and are "inherited non superstar but serviceable" items.
A single class item is ultra hard mode to do that because there will always be voters who don't want/won't vote for/dislike a lot the chosen class. I know this to my cost in a prior year as my item was a ranger only submission playing off the core ranger class abilities.
It isn't impossible for a single class item to make Top 32, but it will have to be something gob-smackingly awesome to get votes from everyone regardless of their feeling for that class.
If anything it is more hard mode than a hard mode staff by quite some degree.

Full disclosure, items which rely on class powers I don't understand/never used have been suffering under my voting regime since I pick the devil I know. :(
I'm afraid to upvote something which is potentially overpowered if I don't explicitly know it's balanced.
I think this topic was sort of implied in the FAQ but maybe just in reference to regions and dieties?

And I think something that a lot of people don't realize is that you have to balance items that react differently in the hand of other classes/races much more expertly. The +2 item that is a +5 when X class uses it can't be priced as a +2 or else it becomes just a cheap way to overpower a character (or an item that every character of that type must have), but you can't price it as a +5, because then it's a piece of garbage to anyone that can't use it and just merchant fodder.
Too often in this competition, items aren't priced right, and that is why they seem automatically down-voted

Question to the group; what's the standard when an item has a Save DC; does whether or not spell resistance applies need to be called out? Is it always assumed to be Yes unless otherwise stated? More than 500 votes in and still realizing things I don't know what the eff I'm doing. Been voting without considering that for almost a week now.

Why do you do this, Paizo Sorting Hat. I want to see the corn item.
Hold on to that feeling!

I very much like the corn item!
Am I the only one who hates this item?
On the other hand, I actually really like another joke item. It had a really solid effect that belonged on a rod. I just wish he name wasn't such a gas. If these items weren't named, I'd put it in the top 32 easily. With the name, I just want to slap the guy for ruining his good item with a terrible name.
That said, both of these items, when I saw them, were up against, what I consider to be the very worst item (so far, at least). No attempt to template. Bizarre and unexplained effect. And d20s aren't damn damage dice! So, yeah, two jokes got my vote and I hate that.

Definitely having voter fatigue, plus if I have to chose between voting or doing fun things with my family, my family wins this week.
All that said, please don't make up a new material for your item for RPG SS and not have a solid plan for a name, where it's from or what it does. Actually, just don't do make up new materials. There are more than four of them that I can think of off the top of my head and I just can't vote for something like that, no matter how cool the concept is.

THAT IS THE COOLEST M-ER F-ING ROD IN THE WHOLE DAMN CONTEST!!!!!!!!!!
Translation: I would upvote one particular rod over pretty much anything.
I've not seen any rod THAT good. I hope I get to see it...
My list of items that should get in (but might not because my taste appears different than most) include a net, a suit of plate, and a few other weapons.
