So my kids and I are currently in Burnt Offerings so a while before I'll be posting (just got the game and all expansions on March 8th). I'm currently playing Valeros with the rest of the group being Amiri, Lini, and Harsk. As I looked through all of these posts it seems to me that everybody playing Valeros has gone Weaponmaster, and I'll admit it's the path I'm looking to go. I was wondering if Mike, Vic, and team had any insight/thoughts as to why that might be? Being still early into the adventures it does seem there are less armor boons to be acquired so that could be a symptom, but to me it came down to the benefit of using melee for ranged was greater than the benefit to reduce damage to my party. Especially since we often spend time in separate locations unless somebody desperately needs my 1d4 bonus.

I kind of regret taking Sajan and Seelah in this group - I think Lini and Merisial would have been both more fun and more 'useful' to the party. I had another party with them in but, for various reasons, that IRL group doesn't meet any more so I haven't had a chance to play them much.

Seoni is my favourite in this group and plays out in my head as the 'leader' of the group. She leads from the front, burns most of her hand each turn (if she can muster enough re-explores) and can deal with most things that she finds. The Holy Candle has been invaluable so far and, without it, I think we would have timed out 2 or 3 more scenarios.

Valeros is a big, blunt, weapon but has been of limited use so far - the others could usually take care of all but the biggest monsters in A1-3 and he has shown a strange attraction to non-combat monsters, especially the Satyr. He also has very boring turns (I would hate to play *just* him in a bigger group - I think it would make for a very boring evening) and almost all of his power/card feats so far have been focused on increased flexibility and getting more explores (i.e. bigger hand size, blessing, allies). He carries two Spyglasses to try to find banes he can bash.

I've been swapping things around recently to try to get more bows into Valeros' arsenal so he can both (a) cycle his deck more and (b) be more flexible in helping other characters' combat checks. Lets see if this backfires now we're into the sharp end of the AP!

Lem and Harsk are awesome in a group of this size. Lem is the main healer but careful positioning of him and Harsk means you can add lots of d4s when you need them.

Sajan's main role seems to be as a blessings mule to help other characters (or very situational cards that he might stumble across). If he happens to have a lot of blessings left on his turn then there are some options, but I think other characters are a lot more fun to play. At the end of A3 he realised that his companions only love him for his blessings and he turned to drink. (Besides, we already have two archers and he only has one weapon slot)

I'm a bit torn on Seelah... in many ways she seems similar but better than Valeros with the bonus of being able to heal herself. But that "Favored card type: Armor" is a real pain.

Until the end of A3 the blessings were pretty much randomly assigned around the group. Now, however, they have been assigned with an eye on the special blessing powers that some characters have.

One suggestion I would have for the next version of the game: give a name to all the character powers. In the first few adventures, it helps with remembering to use them. No deaths with these two, although we have lost a couple scenarios due to the deck running out (Shopkeeper's daughter constantly coming up when I didn't have the Mwk Tools, sort of thing). We also re-ran one after realizing that we'd forgotten to do the scenario special text (I forget which one) and we wanted to make sure that we win legitimately.

This party is really low on item cards (Seelah can't have any), but it's fairly fine other than that. I went with Evoker after seeing that everyone else seems to go Illusionist. I don't plan on getting the +2 with force/cold&acid/elec&fire, since it seems to be a really large investment for not enough return. I rarely fail combat checks if I have an attack spell on hand (exception for the warchanter, of course), so a +2 doesn't really seem worth it (especially since it takes a full 3 power feats to apply to all of my attacks). I'd rather just be better at recharging, acquiring, and having tons of cards (and a strong card recycling engine).

I've noticed that Ezren becomes increasingly powerful as the modules progress for a LOT of reasons. I love the subtle power increase of his "if you acquire a magic trait card while exploring, explore again" power as we start encountering more and more magical boons (although whether or not I can actually acquire that +2 longsword without help from the paladin is another story...)

I play Kyra, Lem and Sajan, my wife plays Lini, Amiri and Harsk. No-one has died, although we’ve failed a few scenarios on time, and had to try again.
Some roles – like Drunken Master – don’t seem that powerful, but felt like more fun – hoping there will be some powerful liquid boons in decks 5 & 6.
For Lini particularly, the 3rd power feat felt odd – she had no interest in being proficient with weapons or armour. Having taken the feat, then felt pressured to add a weapon to go with it. Frustrating now looking at the extra power feats suddenly available.

An empty hand may be invulnerable, but it's also not very useful: you can't explore again and you're limited to single dice. Damage not having an effect over the number of cards in your hand also gives an advantage to having a smaller hand size (see below)

A bigger hand size is supposed to represent fewer hit points. That's why Ezren and Seoni start with a hand size of 6 while the beefier Valeros and Amiri start with 4.

I suppose at the point when you choose the role card, everybody already knows that you don't need to prevent any damage if you simply roll high enough to beat a monster. There are times when a character takes damage without being able to prevent it with a check, but those are few.

Discovered that my Merisiel in the second post on this thread says she took the power to put evaded encounters on the bottom. It should say top (since that is the real power). I must have messed up in copying it from the card to the post. Ezren is also in that group and took the evade power for the illusionist, which is the bottom, so I seem to have just jumbled them up when typing Merisiel's in the post. I was copying and pasting to not have to retype the formatting, so I probably didn't correct Ezren's copied power enough.

Leaving them on the top was the whole reason my wife took that power for Merisiel. We wanted her to leave good boons on top for the others, as well as the villain if she encountered him early so that we could go looting while leaving him sit there.

Hope that didn't cause any problems.
