Oh! I just remembered. We had real strawberry shortcake tonight. It was tasty. And good. I also drank milk from a glass that was on a table and stifled a sneeze right now except that I don't think I'm going to b be able to and there I went.

Hey, Double-Honours PhD and all that: What's the term for when someone says something and then several things that mean the same thing (like synonyms but for phrases)?

It is! I'm going to check now and make sure Wikipedia has the kind we made. They can differ.

Um, we didn't eat a cartoon character. She looks insipid.

The picture they show is not the kind we made. More like shortcake - I'm ashamed I didn't actually make it myself, so I don't know what goes in it, but it's probably the Joy of Cooking recipe (a quick google search didn't find a Joy of Cooking online shortcake recipe - I'll post tomorrow the recipe if I remember to). Then I made whipping cream (I was urged to put the whole pint into a bowl, and despite my protestations ["Whipping cream usually triples!"] I whipped it until it started spraying everywhere, upon the advent of which I poured some out into a plastic container for later use and finished whipping the rest, all of which was not even used; tomorrow people will use it for coffee, I guess) and my mother made the compote. The shortcake was in a circular pan, so we sliced it like a pie, basically, but the shape doesn't matter. When it's cut, you divide into two halves, top and bottom, with a knife. Then you put a dollop or two of whipped cream on the shortcake and then the compote, so that the compote doesn't seep into the shortcake and make it soggy (though some of us - I'm not naming any names - do strawberries, then cream). I think it would work well with that French cultured cream, but it's kinda expensive (I don't know the actual name so I can't link). We used forks tonight because the product is kinda tall.

Also, I've known a girl (off-and-on, going to different schools and all [not romantically, in case you were wondering - and without aspirations, either]) with the name "Strawberry" since 6th grade! Only figured that out last year.

Because of which half?

Soooo tempted to use a different alias for this. My only real Uri-type alias. But would offend most of you.

Edit: I lied! I found another alias.

You could look up redundant in the thesaurus, or try superfluity in a dictionary of synonyms and antonyms.

No, black-haired. She's Japanese. (And no, that's not racist.)

Yeah, Ichigo. Oddly enough, some men are named "Ichigo." It's pretty common there.

Edit: The name "Ichigo," that is. Though I suppose it's somewhat common for men to have it too.

If you plant strawberries you won't have to do any work!

Except that they might die from heat. But our strawberries are going f*#$ing crazy here - trying to take over the rest of the garden.

If you're talking about a flower garden, strawberries have flowers. Monoculture ftw!

Liberty's Edge

Too long to check. Didn't read.

Liberty's Edge

Anyway, how hot can it get in summer over there? I'd expect, given what I saw, Willamette-Valley-type weather. But then I only saw a small portion.

Time to retire from this life of crime, Batman.

Liberty's Edge

But you are Batman!

Liberty's Edge

Robin, I never liked you. You always make me seem too happy. No longer!

<Jacks Robin's supply of euphoria-inducing drugs and needles.>

No one drugs Batman!

<Tosses over convenient cliff.>

Liberty's Edge

This is what you get when I'm not tired but then I look at the clock and think maybe I should be tired but then I tell myself back that I'm not tired but then I tell myself that I am and I'm not and I am and not and am and not and am not am not am not am not am not ad infinitum. I get tired of that.

Liberty's Edge

With probably further a 'do, I will be off.

Okay, looks like the rest of the OTD is dead. I'm gonna retire from this life of crime, then. Maybe build me a casino in Vegas. 'Night all.

where? here? around 35°C on the hottest days maybe even near 40° but there can be whole summer weeks with only 20° and daily rain

Okay mmmm I lied. One more post.

We have alpine strawberries at our place, as well as the big variety that only fruits at certain times of year. They've interbred, so the newer plants produce smaller, more flavourful fruits. However, much like the northern spotted owl, they can't compete. We need to do a massive kill-off of the big strawberries to protect the small year-round tasty ones.

Yeah, even our wimpy overbred giant strawberries are fine with that. Cool!

Alas, the party successfully mowed through all of the bad guys I threw at them last night. I'm beginning to hate dispel magic and silence >:S

And so closes book 3 of Rise of the Runelords: The Hook Mountain Massacre.

Not to worry, hope for a nice TPK springs eternal. We start Book 4: Fortress of the Stone Giants in two weeks.

We are 2 sessions into Fortress of the Stone Giants. I must admit that it is one of the ones I know very little about, so I'm interested to see how it plays.

Meh. I'm lucky if my game's party makes it to the third round of combat. They just pwned a Yochlol and her squad of worg-mounted drow.

It's OK Pat. I'm bringing in a Flavour Character, so that'll bring the party average down a bit. ;)
