Anyone who admits to seeing this Star Whores 3d release when it comes out will have to turn in their geek card in shame.

Damn, I can't believe we missed the last day of #5. Oh well, Riley Bug's Birthday was a blast and in the grand scheme of things more important. So how is everyone this wonderful day?

Doing well. Glad Riley's birthday went so well.

Yes - the demise of FAWTLhouse 5 was very sudden at the end. It looked like it would go on forever.

Long live Deep 6 FAWTL!

I was a highwayman. Along the coach roads I did ride

With sword and pistol by my side
Many a young maid lost her baubles to my trade
Many a soldier shed his lifeblood on my blade
The bastards hung me in the spring of twenty-five
But I am still alive.

I was a sailor. I was born upon the tide
And with the sea I did abide.
I sailed a schooner round the Horn to Mexico
I went aloft and furled the mainsail in a blow
And when the yards broke off they said that I got killed
But I am living still.

I was a dam builder across the river deep and wide
Where steel and water did collide
A place called Boulder on the wild Colorado
I slipped and fell into the wet concrete below
They buried me in that great tomb that knows no sound
But I am still around..I'll always be around..and around and around and around and around

I fly a starship across the Universe divide
And when I reach the other side
I'll find a place to rest my spirit if I can
Perhaps I may become a highwayman again
Or I may simply be a single drop of rain
But I will remain
And I'll be back again, and again and again and again and again..

I am seeing it for one reason and one reason only.

To kick the S&~+ out of Avatar/Titanic/James Cameron's "I've made the greatest movie evah!" ego.

So it looks like we are getting the new iPad. We started off looking for an e-Reader that can do color (all these Paizo pdf's) and that had a good sized screen. And now we are getting it because of facetime for my wife and her mother who has an iPhone.

And as proof that yesterday was an unusually difficult day, Fawlthouse Five is closed and locked.

moment of silence, punctuated by a sip of hot jasmine green tea

Fawlthouse Five is dead. LONG LIVE DEEP SIX FAWTL!!!!

But I have struggled through the various trials of yesterday, which I actually won't go into for they are both long and embarrasing.

Spoiler:
That's what she said!!!!
I feel I have made it through the crucible of that particular day, but the week ain't over yet. I'm working a long shift today(8:30 to 6:30), so I'll be here for a while. On the bright side, it looks like I'm off at the second job on the morrow, so I'll probably go to Chinatown or check on how my bike is doing.

EDIT- As an aside, does anyone remember the "evil homebrewed campaign setting" that was spoken about once YEARS ago here? I'm trying to link it to my Freehold! The Saga of Wune stuff, and I can't seem to find it. It was an interesting look at alignment and a society that was in fact quite evil as the alignment spectrum goes.

Well, Sam and Irving decided that, in order to win friends and influence people, they'd need a lot of money. So they planned a jewel heist, unaware that the jewels they were planning to steal belonged to the nefarious crime boss Profino "The Douche" Cicerino. Meanwhile, Al and John were planning to unveil their new add campaign idea for the company, not realizing that Bethany had stolen their idea and already presented it. And, across town, Charlie decided that today would be the day to unleash his....No, wait! That's my soap opera.

I'm not sure why the guys at the recruiting company are doing the high-pressure sales routine when I haven't even been given a job offer yet. I don't know how it works in their world, but getting everyone in my family all riled up for something that might not even happen is pretty silly.

I guess they want to determine how serious I am, because spending 17 hours on a round trip to Atlanta to interview isn't serious enough.

Ugh. I will now just back away slowly.

I want to try and convince my older brother to sue the various studios over all these damn 3D movies. Because of his particular eye condition, he can't do 3D. So much pain and suffering....;)

Or arrested for attempting to inflict bodily harm on Joss Whedon. Luckily, Joss has plenty of ninja-slayer chicks to protect him.

Me? Inflict bodily harm on Joss Whedon and his froggin' bints(two points if you know where that's from and what it means)? Unless it's a one on one duel to the death on the planet Mustafar, I think not.

UGH. I *hate* recruiters. Every time I've gone for a new job now, I've gotten the one that WASN'T being handled by a recruiter. They are too focused on giving the employer X candidates. Something along the line of "throw enough s**! against the wall and something will stick". And I got tired of being in the pile of crap. I distinctly noticed a difference in interviews that were set up by me and the company's HR versus ones set up by a recruiter. The far-away "oh god, not another one" look in the interviewer's eyes and the monotonous "let's get this over with" type of questions. Always accompanied by the Recruiter's follow-up of "THEY LOVE YOU! I'm SURE there's an offer any day/week/month/year now!"

That being said, YMMV and here's hoping it works out for you!

My current contract was through a consulting company. The only issue I have with them is that I'm making a little over 50% of the rate they're charging the company. My fault that I didn't do more research or negotiate my rate, but I was desperate to get out of my previous job.

I've run into somewhat the opposite problem with recruiters. "I see you know Java. How much J2EE experience do you have?" "None, but I've worked with Java for 8 years and I should be..." "Our client wants someone with J2EE experience. This conversation is over, but I'll call you when we get something with your specific experience."

I had one recruiter tell me that if I wanted the job I'd already know the language/technology they're looking for. Really? By that logic I should know every IT technology "just in case".

Luckily, this is for a full-time job, and I won't be working directly for the recruiting company.

Halfling oracle, I think.

RPG Superstar 2012

I had somehow managed to block this memory:

The hiring manager at the recruiting company suggested I write a thank you letter for the interview. Fair enough, I thought, so I wrote one up in my usual style (basically not assuming I was going to get the job and genuinely appreciative of how at ease the team made me feel during the process). I talked to the other manager who told me I did my thank you note wrong, so the first guy was going to send me a template to work from. Here is an idea: If you want people to follow your template, don't waste their time by not providing it in the first place.

My brother in law is like this.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

@taig:

Same thing here. I'm in web development, and the number of people I met at recruiters that know the difference between Java and VB stand at about zero, and they don't seem to understand that you can do things in different languages. Granted, most shops like to stick with a certain language/format, but still.

Oh, and don't get me started on templates. "We'd like you to change your concise and informative 3 page resume into a 12 page book because that's how we present all of our resumes."

Hiring interviewer: "Your resume's too long and over-detailed."
