Hello James,
I noticed earlier in the thread you answered a question about Erecura, Dispater's current (?) wife. Couldn't help but notice she was LN...and knowing my fixation with the class, my mind immediately jumped to paladins.
How would you RP a paladin of Erecura, how reasonable would it be for such a paladin to exist, and what sort of code might that paladin have? My thoughts mechanics-wise would be the Oath Against Chaos, and the paladin would most definitely be all about serving law as opposed to good. Thoughts? Just searching for a good baseline concept to build up form, is all. Personally, the idea of a sacred servant casting planar ally to summon devils tickles my funny bone. ;P

Hey James,
I've got a few questions about the Sodden Lands--or at least refugees from there, if you don't mind...
1) What were the main religions in Lirgen and Yamasa before the Eye formed and the people fled?
2) Were the Lirgeni and Yamasi Garundi or Chelaxian?
3) Today, do Lirgeni and Yamasi live in "expat" communities in other parts of Garund or Avistan? Where?
4) If so, to what degree do the Lergeni attempt to blend in and assimilate with the locals or maintain a separate existence in these expat communities?
Thanks so much!

2) How would the clergymen and members of orders dedicated to the Inheritor deal, on a day to day basis, with the cruelty and corruption of the current dynasty (and its affiliation with the church of Asmodeus)?
Thank you very much

James,
In the bestiary entry on Petitioners, it states specifically that if they meet the appropriate conditions, Chaotic Evil Petitioners become Demons, Neutral Evil ones Daemons, Lawful Evil ones Devils, Chaotic Neutral ones Proteans, Neutral ones Aeons, Lawful Neutral ones Inevitables, Chaotic Good ones Azatas, Neutral Good ones Agathions, and Lawful Good ones Archons. Is that the limit, or can good ones become Angels, or true neutral ones Psychopomps, or Lawful Evil ones Kytons? I know nothing becomes Qlippoth, and the origins of Divs and Demodands are clear. The native ones (Kami, Rakshasa, and Oni), when they form from mortals, do they just go straight from mortal to typed outsider in those rare instances, or do they stop as a petitioner first?

Any delay in casting means the ship has moved from its scryed location and the spell fails. It seems to me that you would be able to teleport to a location if you've scryed on someone there, but it's treated as 'viewed once' so there is a 34% chance you don't make it the location scryed. What about it? Ignore it, I say, and the game will be better for it. It is, in my opinion, a fragment left over from 3rd edition anyway.
Folks asked me how it works in games I run, and I answered. I've established (perhaps not well enough) that this isn't the place to get Rules-As-Written rulings, but I do hope to inspire at least a few GMs to be confident and comfortable in changing rules that make their game less fun.
I very much disagree with you on this JJ. This is also one of the reasons why I'm very much against there ever being a new version of Pathfinder.
I want a game where magic can do as much fantastic stuff as I can imagine, not for it to be ever more limited.
Why do so many people tend to favor a more low magic setting do you think?

Does it include the corpse of the first dead god?
Or the first dead anything? The corpse of the first demon that was ever killed, for example, or the corpse of the first mortal who ever died.

This I agree with and understand.
In fact this week I'm goig to play a game where I hear there are no magic items. Conan. I'm totally fine with that and look forward to trying it, but I think magic should remain as strong as possible in Pathfinder. No need to water it down when there are other games to try for your low magic fix.
Just my opinion.
Sorry if this comes out as more of a discussion than questions. I'll stop ranting now :-)
Allright I'll put a question in at the end. Would you say Pathfinder is the most "High magic" rpg out there you know of?
If yes, wouldn't it be cool to keep it that way so that option will always exist for people who want that experience? It certainly seems to have worked so far.

Huh. I had been under the impression that Abadar gave Zon-Kuthon the perfect shadow, an absense of light, not the undead creature of the same name.
In my mind, Abadar's vault contains platonic ideals of things, not necessarily actual things in the conventional sense.
I believe you're correct, and the wiki is mistaken.
To quote Abadar's deity article from CotCT:
True to his word, Abadar conceded that the sun had indeed vanished from the sky and granted Zon- Kuthon his desire: the first shadow. Since then, Zon-Kuthon has used his treasure well, populating his dark realm with legions of shadow-sculpted beings and even draping a piece of absolute shadow across the world, eternally cloaking his servant nation of Nidal.
That's clearly the first shadow, not the first Shadow.
Now, I lack Inner Sea Gods at the moment (though not for long) and that might've theoretically changed it, but I suspect the wiki is simply in error.

Golarion is middle of the road, but skewing slightly toward low magic. High magic would be settings like Eberron or the Final Fantasy games; worlds where magic is more or less a freely available and commonly integrated part of society; when you have magically powered street lights in an average city and none of the citizens really fell that they're all that unusual, you have a high magic game. Golarion is not that game.
Pathfinder can certainly SUPPORT all of those game types though. The rules are world-neutral, and as such they aren't high magic or low magic or anything else. They enable those options, but they don't limit themselves to those options.

Her symbol is a fly. She's ASSOCIATED with death's head hawk moths, but also with other animals. Her symbol is a fly with a skull, though.
When we mention her symbol is a moth, it's an error. One that, frustratingly, keeps popping up.

Angels form from lawful good, neutral good, or chaotic good petitioners, but not nearly as often as those petitioners form archons, azatas, or agathions.
Kytons form in their own way, from the flesh and blood and soul and mind of mortals, most of whom make the transition voluntarily.
Psychopomps form from neutral petitioners.

I had some questions about Changelings
1. Are we ever gonna get more support for them? They're one of my favorite races and I'd like more options for them.
2. The fluff that is there seems to make Witch one of if not the most common class for them yet their stats don't match up with that (no INT bonus even though they're "clever.") How come?
3. I imagine that the fact they are adopted is fairly evident as they grow older but would people know what specific race she is? I don't think Changelings are very common but correct me if I'm wrong.
4. If her race is known, would she face racial discrimination? Given their parentage and what they could become it seems likely.
5. Are Changeling nails retractable? Questions 3 and 4 make this question very relevant because they stick out like a sore thumb and would therefore make it difficult to hide her race or at least the fact that she's different.
6. Pedantic follow-up- if they're not retractable, would have huge nails like that make it more difficult to hold/manipulate things? I pictured the nails looking like the nails hex in Feiya's artwork. Those look very impractical for doing things like writing or even shaking hands. On a similar vein, are Witch nails retractable?
Please don't take the first two questions as an attack. I just can't think of a better way to phrase them. I understand that there's a lot more going on at Paizo than adding to one of the least common races.

1) What would a typical warpriest of Besmara be like?
2) How would they differ from a typical inquisitor of Besmara? Or would they be pretty similar in personality/goals?
I'm running Skull & Shackles and one of my PCs has been near death enough that the player is already considering a replacement, a warpriest of Besmara. Because her priesthood is so small and the examples we have just seem like typical pirates, I'm curious if there's something that would differentiate a cleric from a warpriest from an inquisitor for Besmara.

1) Yes.
2) Clever doesn't necessarily mean high intelligence. It could just as easily mean high Charisma, since being naturally good at bluffing and diplomacy and figuring out how to make magic items work all equates to being "clever." Or being naturally good at noticing things or interpreting people's motives, which comes from a high Wisdom.
3) I'd say that'd be a Knowledge (local) check to figure out the race of a changeling. Someone who isn't trying to hide her race with disguise would be a DC 10 or DC 11 check to identify, and that's by no means a sure fire thing for the average observer.
4) She might in some parts of the world, might not in others. Same as with any race or ethnicity.
5) They are not retractable. They don't have to look like talons though. They just look like normal (but long) fingernails; they serve as natural weapons because they're really hard.
6) No more difficult than normal. Look at the art we've done for them; their nails don't look particularly long, and thus wouldn't interfere with manual dexterity. They COULD be as long as Feiya's nails, for sure, but in most cases they're the same length as, say, Seoni's nails. Again, the difference is that a changeling's nails are razor sharp and hard as steel or the like; they aren't normal people nails.
And I don't take the first 2 questions as attacks at all. Had you said something like "It's stupid that you say they're clever but you don't give them an Int bonus!" then that would be different, but you're more mature and friendlier than that! It's all good! :-)

2) A warpriest would have a better sense of humor and be friendlier on average than an inquisitor, who would generally be more dour and more serious. There can absolutely be crossover though. You can have a dour warpriest and a flirty inquisitor if you want.

Someone who isn't trying to hide her race with disguise would be a DC 10 or DC 11 check to identify, and...
First off, thanks for the reply and I'm glad I didn't come off as a dick. Secondly, yay more Changeling support! Thirdly, I'll bow to your judgement about Changelings being more wise than intelligent even if it means they are only an average option for the one class they have an archetype for. Fourthly, I never noticed how long Seoni's nails are. Finally, I see now I didn't look closely enough at the Changeling text for the nails trait. I guess I assumed they'd be talons because Feiya's are and she has the nails hex which I consider to be very similar.

1. When you lock Wes Schneider away to write Devil's revisited will it be in an office, cliche dungeon or broom closet?
2. When you do will you make him use one of those weird alien typewriters i half remember from Naked Lunch(?)
I love Demons Revisited and can't wait for the devils to get their due, also Wes did a fantastic job with BotD 1

1) Not every book needs to be written.
2) Nope!
And while I appreciate the kind words about Demons Revisited, and agree that Wes did an incredible job on Book of the Damned 1... I think that forcing symmetry along lines can be bad for business. The reason Demons Revisited exists isn't because we have a master plan to do a Devils Revisited and Daemons Revisited and so on and do on... it exists because I wanted to write the book. That's why it happened. If Wes wants to write Devils Revisited, it'll go on the schedule, but I'm not interested in putting it on the schedule for any other reason, frankly. And these days, Wes has other things he's more interested in writing. Which will be as or (more likely) more awesome than a Devils Revisited book.

Hi James, was just wanting to get your opinion of how knowing the exact latitude and longitude of a location works with trying to teleport there?
Since we don't publish latitude and longitudes for locations in Golarion, I think that introducing that sort of coordinate system overcomplicates things. And even if we did publish them... knowing those coordinates wouldn't change how teleporting works, since you need more than mere number coordinates to teleport.
