SONGBOUND CURSE?!
SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
____
♫ We are Song-bound
We sing loudly when we speak
We are Song-bound
Not for us an ignomious squeak
We have music to do, you and I
We have music to do tonight
With our brand new oracle curse
And some improv'd verse
We'll sing to operatic heights
We are Song-bound
I wish I could get this on a bard
We are Song-bound
But multi-classing's hard
We have music to do, you and I
We have phillistinic foes to fight
With our brand new oracle curse
Who among us needs to rehearse?
We'll sing til they bring down the curtains and lights
We are Song-bound
My party's gonna roll their eyes
We are Song-bound
Boy, the GM's in for a surprise
We have music to do, you and I
Modules of musical might
With our brand new oracle curse
We'll dance with monsters diverse
We'll sing to our heart's content and delight! ♫
I am really, really hoping that this curse is available to races other than merfolk!

Hmm
Unfortunately not.
"Merfolk oracles may select the following new oracle curse."
But I suppose anyone who qualifies as human could blow a Racial Heritage feat to qualify (outside of PFS, that is).

Is the rogue archetype a reprint/rename of Eldritch Raider from the ARG?
No, it is not even for the same race (Aquatic Elf this time).

Got mine! The art in this, other than the piece on the Introduction page (which has been rather bad often!), is fantastic!
The Crashing Wave cleric archetype! Wow. When Chanelling energy, all take untyped damage except those with a neutral aspect to their alignment. Only Gozreh worshippers need apply.
The Masterpieces are fun. Of course, I have always been a fan of such innovations. One gives swim speed to all in effect the other is like greater command spell to ward creatures away from your area.
I cannot say enough about the art--it really is impressive.

As the race that fit's in RP point wise the best with other races....what's the Locathah like ?

That was literally the one line of the description i didn't read. That'll teach me. *eyeroll*
There's nothing particularly Merfolk-ish about that curse. i don't know why its limited to Merfolk.

Huh, so out of new six races, only locathans got a lot of new material for them? I guess they are intended to be most normal of races while other ones are kinda in similar state to gargoyles/ogres/driders/etc from advanced race guide?
Tritons are also in the more normal range of points for common PC races (at 11).

Rysky wrote:Huh? Well according to above list, grindylows, tritons, adaros and sahagins don't have archetypes, alternate racial traits or favored class bonuses .-.Huh?
No, pretty much all the races got a bunch of stuff for them.
I did list that the tritons get the kraken slayer archetype, as well as two racial feats, but much of their entry is more related to lore for people wanting to play them. Adaros, grindylows, and sahuagins are in a shared section called 'Enemies of the Sea', with about two paragraphs apiece of lore, unlike aquatic elves, cecaelias, gillmen, locathahs, merfolk, and tritons, who each get two pages.
Could someone share info on the Electric Eel Style feat line?
It builds off of Elemental Fist, mostly specializing in taser-punching enemies to make them easier to grapple and giving friendly electro-hugs.
What does instant clot do. it intrigues me that it is in his book.
Ends existing bleed effects and briefly prevents you from bleeding when taking normal damage so sharks and similar creatures can't smell you from miles away.

I've never been so happy to have an option be racially locked, and behind a generally banned race at that. It's the sort of character quirk that is a huge nuisance to actually play in a game with.
Anyway, got my PDF. Not what I like seeing in these books- a big portion taken up by races that are too strong for my groups, and large chunks that are flavor and advice. The other "blood of" books were more broadly useful- this is underwater campaign or bust, and there's a lot I'd pass over even for an underwater campaign.
... but that's fair. Blood of the Sea didn't interest me in particular. It's just that the player's companion line has nothing but cool stuff I'm looking forward to for the next six months at least, and it wasn't worth dropping the subscription for the book I wasn't as interested in. We've even still got our usual fall "blood of" book!
Luthorne |
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed as to how much material was racially locked, though some of it is certainly useful for such races, like the sponge suit and land limbs, or even the cloak of eternal mist, which make playing a gillman or merfolk much easier. That said, if you are planning on running some underwater adventures, or playing a game involving aquatic races that might have to head on land, this book definitely has some good advice, though I would recommend getting Aquatic Adventures with it.
I mean, it's not like it's totally useless, electric eel style is fun, and there are some archetypes that, while ocean-themed, work fine for normal adventuring, as well as the new cavalier order and the eidolon subtype.
I still like the book, though, but that might be partially because I've been pondering an underwater game for awhile...

I believe that the sahaughin got some alternate racial traits in the Monster Codex. Not many, but a few.
(Sahaughin are my favorite aquatic race, so I feel your pain on that.)

I assume Aquatic Beastmaster is just an aquatic specialist with an aquatic pet?
Pretty much, gets an alternate, aquatic-focused set of animal focuses, wild empathy can work on more creature types but only if they're aquatic, and get bonuses against water spells and the abilities of aquatic creatures.
Any info on the order of the eel and the new eidolon type?
Order of the eel believes in (possibly jolly) cooperation, by which I mean communication and negotiation. Their abilities tend to focus on working in cooperation with people of a number of different races, as well as on negotiating agreements.
QuidEst more or less covered the deepwater eidolon, an inhuman entity drawn from the ocean's depths (though still an outsider), while they gain evolutions related to traveling through the water (including jet!), they're still quite nasty with their (eventually poisonous) tentacles and tail slaps.

It's a shame Cecaelias are such a high RP value, my group barely lets people play Aasimar for their RP value so there's no way I'll get away with 23 much of ever.
Would your group accept a weaker version? Given the RP values are given here, you could cut three abilities or so, to get down to something like 15 RP.
