flavorful options, powerful options
classes, archetypes, feats...

while 100% of the boook might not please you, you want this book.

having the choice to build flavorful PC with the right options is priceless (and for this book, you have...)

this book owes its selling rate for the Magus.

lazy feats, some options are good, some others just dotn´
Archetypes: the best Bladebound Magus
worst of all: Trapper Ranger

Spellblights: interesting but too complex for a fumble system
Spellword Casting: at the beginning it looks very nice, then i read it and... is the same spell restriction and opportunities at a expensive cost of time

feats: ok those are feats

Magic spellbooks: why you dont just paraphrase some words concerning about how to protect the spellbooks with some spells and thats all. maybe a feat or two for scaling this option, besides the spellbooks looks greats.

spells: again, the magus options are great.

my advice for you: buy the book, cut the pages concerned for magus, and dump the rest or Download the pdf at any place you can, print the magus and drop the rest

While I do not think that either this or Ultimate Combat deserve to be called "Ultimate" anything books (maybe Ultimate Monk), I do think that Ultimate Magic does better cover it's proported theme. In my opinion, Inner Sea Magic did a better job overall, but is sadly setting specific.

On th Divine Side (minus Paladin) this book is extremely, extremely limited. There are a few gems, but most are either placed really far out of reach, or just not worth what you give up for them, and might as well not have been there at all rather than tease.

On the Arcane side, this book is full of material, but severely lacking as well. There is an assortment of random material that just seems like it was left over from other books and tossed in here. The only magical items in this book (exceptionally noticable on the Divine Magic side) are Wizard's Spellbooks, (which of the top of my head, only 3 Classes in the entire game will actually have any use for beyond the sell price).

There are a lot of (would be) nice Feats, except they are specific to a Class, or build, or whose names imply it would be great for somone else besides who it is actually intended. Over all, there are a lot of options, but actually very slim pickings. Overall, it leaves a lot of classes and build out in the cold.

Whereas Ultimate Combat is at best Ultimate Monk, Ultimate Magic is closest to being more appropriate as Ultimate Wizard/Inquisitor, (arguably Classes that did not need more).

This book is no Complete Divine or Complete Arcance. I mostl play a cleric and this book does little for me personally.

Yeah, its got some interesting tweaks, but for the price, i dobn't think thy are worth it.

So far I've used 1 feat and the spells from this book. Nothing else. Should've bought the APG.

After reading through Ultimate Magic, some new mechanics offered in this book can add flavor and fun to an adventure.

The Magus appears to be a class that is fun to play as. You are able to swipe at your enemies with your sword in one hand and with magic in the other.

Spellblights are interesting. These curses can hinder the spellcasters in different ways.

One chapter that I especially liked was the words of power. The concept was a little hard to wrap around but when you understand it fun ensues. I tried out a couple of words of power in an adventure and it was pretty fun. There was a point where I fought a spellcaster who also had words of power and it felt like the two were having a very destructive debate ha!

Overall I enjoyed this product and I recommend this to everybody!

I liked the Alchemist archetypes quite a bit myself, but the Oracle and Witch ones really got my attention. I'm optimistic about the Magus and it's archetypes, Bladebound and Hexcrafter both jumped out at me.

This is something I'm especially looking forward to, especially archetypes that might replace Mutagen with something I'd be more interested in actually using.

But I'm excited about nearly everything about this book. New Spells (especially for the Cleric/Oracle), the new Monk archetype, new discoveries, Oracle curses, mysteries, magic items (hoping for better item creation rules?), feats, and more.

I can't wait! But I guess I'll be waiting a while anyway since I ordered from Amazon. =P

Oh my... the new cook people hex is funny, disgusting and disturbing all at the same time. The funny part is one of the things you can do with it, is make the "dough" into a little gingerbread like homunculus.

The simulacrum works similar to the spell of the same name. The parasitic twin is something to add onto the vestigial limbs discovery. Sometimes spells that would effect the mind of the alchemist effect the twin instead, leaving the alchemist to stay in control but suffers a bit for it.

Alchemist zombie and sunlight bomb I think are my two favorite of the new ones.

When you miss with a splash weapon and the new hex has a target in it you may reroll, at a penalty, to hit your new target. If you hit you do full damage to the new target and splash based on the new hex.

You give up something to learn them. Either a feat or a spell of a certain level. A example.

The Quickening Pulse - you give up a feat or a 3rd level spell known. Once learned you can preform this and it makes enemies in 30 ft quicken their beating heart. Each round you play it, they must make a save or take 1d6 dmg as they sweat blood.

Well I don't want to tell everything about the book but I will give you some tidbits.

1) There is 7 new bloodlines
2) There is 5 new mysteries.
3) The only monk archetype gives them access to Ki powers which functions somewhat like supernatural abilities and their is a lot of them.
4) Songhealer can increase how effective other peoples spells, scrolls, wands etc are for healing if he is higher level. He also gets two abilities one lets him do a performance that works like the spell heal and another that raises the dead. Is it good? depends on your point of view I guess.
5) Yes some of the feats are class specific. Just skimming the feat list I seen 1 Sorc, 3 Oracle, 5 Witch class only feats, though they are tied to bloodline, mystery or hexes so take it with a grain of salt when I say class only.
6) The two archetypes for Sorc combine bloodlines, giving some benefits from each blood line.
7) At first glance they seem on par, but keep in mind I have not read the book. Just been skimming it.

I have only two more questions. Does the Reanimator Archetype replace bombs, and if so, with what?

Edit: The only reason I ask is because of some fluff that would work better for a Kingmaker character of mine. However, bombs are integral to my character's backstory, so if they are replaced, I will not even ask if I may update my character.


I cannot wait to see what the new witch patrons are, as well as new familiar options. Anyone care to reveal a few, just to keep me satisfied until I can get the book?

The damage dice get reduced by one (d6 => d4) on the Reanimator's bombs. He gets to add undead creation spells to his formula list.

Hrm... In that case , I'll have to think it over. Interesting, very interesting.

Edit: No, I don't believe that will work for this particular character, but it is definitely an avenue I'd like to pursue with a character or two.

Are there any bloodlines that are "Law", Based on any creature(s) from the Beastairy II, or based on a concept(music, life elemtal, etc.)and/or character class(witch, bard, druid,etc.)?

Like the sound of the monk one as well.
