Male Halfling Bard/1
He has stopped writing on the Zedroom. Got some life changes going on and a system conversion at work (which, as the Controller, I am getting bombarded with). I am still reading through things, though, as time allows. My efforts are mainly put towards our active games, so as to participate and not bog things down.
I am currently gaming with a PbP group that can run through a PFS scenario in 1-2 weeks, and with plenty of flavor posting from all involved. Just wondering if there are other comparable groups out there in the PbP world? Orrrrrr......if you would like to talk about how to get your gaming experience sped up without losing any of the richness of the PbP experience, you can post here, as well. I would also recommend reading:
Male Halfling Bard/1
I think Skull and Shackles would be fun. Lots of pirate street-cred building, along with crazy shipboard combat/cannons, etc. the main drawback I've heard is the ship-chasing encounters tend to be a solo mission for the Captain, which pretty much bored everyone else. With this group, I'm sure we could figure out how to streamline it. Otherwise, Reign of Winter beckons. As for PFS legal or not, I don't really care. It would be great to have the chronicles, but I don't think that will influence my thinking.

What does Selbarina think justice truly is - something delivered at the end of a sword, or in a court of law? You mentioned that she trained with using the sword - is there a reason she didn't try to become a Paladin, who would be arguably freer to dispense direct justice? I take deity personalities seriously - if your character goes to an extreme that source material suggests a deity won't like, she could get divine warnings. (That's not necessarily a bad thing - it can make a great catalyst for character development.) I'm not sure which trait you're taking, but at a guess, Selbarina would be traveling with the Caravan because she was asked to undertake the journey. Either way, why is she interested in going to an unknown land when there's plenty of places close by (like, say, Riddleport) that need a lot of justice dispensed? Shelby will begin the campaign LN...I'm hoping for a gradual shift to LG. That's a main reason she chose the Warpriest instead of Paladin. In her eyes, the Paladin is too restrictive in its pursuit of justice, and she feels it would tie her hands. As for evildoers...Shelby will offer the chance to surrender, but secretly hope they resist. If she has judged them guilty, the best thing a court would do is assert her claim and process the punishment she could have meted out herself. The worst thing the court could do is let the convict go through some loophole. Perhaps I could have expanded on it a bit more, but Shelby is extremely frustrated with how she thinks she is viewed (the way I had planned it was that her male NPC companions actually show her a great deal of respect, but that she is almost paranoid about being viewed as 'weak'). She feels she has been pigeon-holed by the people of Sandpoint, and would like nothing better than to travel somewhere where she could get a fresh start and prove herself capable to those who don't have pre-determined opinions. I would certainly take the trait Foster Child. As for why she would go to an unknown land instead of a Riddleport, it is exactly that...the unknown aspect. She would view a city like Riddleport as a den of thieves that preyed upon each other, with each deserving their own fate. An unknown destination offers at least an illusion of a place that perhaps hangs in the balance, where a strong-willed harbinger of justice can make a difference.
I'm thinking a warpriest/inquisitor...covers fighting, decent face & skills, and a bit of healing. Shelby's 10 minute background:
Background - "Mercy, Selbarina. Give it to all. We are not here to judge the world. Let the Gods do that. If Sarenrae thinks the subject unworthy of Her gifts, she will deny them to those we seek to help." Merick Renarin spoke with his ten year old daughter after he had healed a man who was obviously a brigand, bringing the man back from death's door. The town guard of Korvosa came to arrest the man after getting word that he was fit for his pending trial, where he was summarily sentenced to die. "It is the Law's place to judge these men, not ours. Ours is to preach the word of the Sun to those who would hear it, swaying souls to the side of goodness and righteousness. Tell me, Selbarina, would it be worth it to cure ten people of their afflictions, if just one of them could be taught of the wickedness of their life, if just one would repent and turn their life around even in just its final moments, sending the soul to Elysium, perhaps, instead of the Hell it was destined for? How about one hundred, or more?" Selbarina pondered this solemnly, then nodded unsurely. Merick laughed. "A difficult question for anyone, let alone a child. You have the divine gift, my girl, I can sense it in you. These are the choices you will be faced with one day. Do you foresee being the judge, telling people who will live and who will die? Think on this, I pray you." With that he smiled, tousling her hair before leaving her room as she drifted off to sleep. She awoke to tragedy the next morning. The brigand had been busted out of prison by his friends, and had proceeded to the house of the man who had 'turned him in'. As Merick opened the door, the men had weapons ready and stabbed him in the throat, leaving him to gurgle out his life's blood on the doorstep. His wife, Larissa, had helped tend the man, so she never woke from her slumber as she was slain (thankfully the men were in a hurry or a more horrible fate would have befallen her). Only Selbarina, who had seen the man while peering from around a corner, was spared, simply from the bandits' ignorance of her existence. After a brief stay at a foster home, Selbarina was sent to the town of Sandpoint to stay with Koya Mvashti, a family friend who was Merick's mother's best friend decades ago (Merick stayed in touch with her via letters, and had put in his will that his daughter would stay with her, should something happen to him and his wife). Koya did a wonderful job of raising Selbarina in her parents' stead, and found that the girl had a appreciation of knowledge, but seemed particularly interested in theology and the ethos of each God. Selbarina did not smile much after her parents' murder, particular because of the conversation she had had with her father that night and the final reward of his years of mercy. After a couple of years, Shelby (as she had started calling herself, Selbarina sounded too girly and feminine, like she couldn't take care of herself) had grown big and strong, towering over her mentor and most of the other boys and girls her age (of course they later caught up, most of the boys meeting or passing her in height, much to her dismay). She had thought things over, and decided that Sarenrae would not be her deity. While she had respect for the Dawnflower, her teachings were too out of sync with Shelby's demeanor and outlook on life. Shelby instead chose Iomedae as her patron, going to the Sandpoint Cathedral to pray, sometimes for hours at a time. She was full of pride when she saved up enough money and came home to Koya with a silver holy symbol of the Goddess. Koya decided that between the child's fervor and her divine roots, she should be trained in the temple, so she started splitting Shelby's time, sending her to the Cathedral every other day to refine her divine talents. As befitting a disciple of the Goddess of Justice, she was given a sword and told to practice with it every day. Koya looked on with helplessness as Shelby's view became increasingly narrow, almost fixed on the concept of bringing Justice to the world. While the girl was intelligent and seemed to understand the stories Koya told her and the implications of becoming narrow-minded, she just couldn't seem to shake her tunnel vision on this one concept. Now a grown woman, Shelby is more at peace with herself, having mentally answered her father's question from a decade before: Yes, she could be the judge of life and death, and justice, not mercy, was what this world needed. Personality - Shelby is a very serious woman with a black and white way of looking at things. She is extremely loyal to the few she calls friends, but it is very hard to earn her trust. She takes things literal far too often, although she has tried the last couple of years to 'lighten up', for Koya's sake more than her own. She is very blunt in her dealings with people, which some mistake for rudeness. While not exactly against having a romantic relationship, Shelby's cold attitude and relative disinterest has resulted in suitors not exactly lining up. Koya has pressed upon her the need for a more open view of the world, but Shelby is very resistant to the message, so far. (What I'm looking for is a slow transition for Shelby into a more open and kind character who is able to develop healthy relationships with people, whether romantically or friendly.) Description - Shelby is a good-looking woman with short-cropped straight and thick black hair she keeps parted and groomed like a man's (she definitely has a case of bedhead in the morning). Her skin is pale and burns easily in the sun. She stands 5'9" and has a full physique equal parts feminine allure and fitness, weighing about 150 pounds. When not in her armor, she typically wears a tunic or blouse that has a high neck, and loose pants that she belts at the waist, the main reason being to not show her more feminine attributes. While not terribly high, her voice is decidedly female, which irritates her to no end (in her estimation, people take orders and heed warnings from males more quickly). Her dark brown eyes rarely crinkle in a smile, her face usually fixed in a grim countenance, judging those around her. Goals - Shelby's goal is simply to deliver justice to the world around her. She is unrelenting, and without mercy in this regard. My development goal for her is for her travels with her companions and the encounters they face to open her up and have her become more of an affectionate, caring character who takes into account the feelings of those around her and actually shows compassion. Secrets - Only Koya knows about her parents' murder in Korvosa. People in Sandpoint see Shelby as rather unapproachable, and for the most part unfriendly, but are unaware of her background. Shelby makes no secret about her irritation about 'male privilege'. Unbeknownst to herself, she fears that a true threat will come along one day, and in her quest to deliver justice she will fail. Her worst dreams are when she fails due to becoming morally corrupt. Memories - The memory of her parents' murder remains very vivid in Shelby's mind. The day she prayed to Iomedae, and the goddess answered her and started to grant her divine essence to Shelby stands out. The trip to Sandpoint and her first day with Koya also stand out to Shelby, as the woman took her under her wing while the young girl was an emotional mess. I'm more than open to suggestions for tweaks, in addition to any questions you might have!
