Greetings all. I am planning to run the variant of Kingmaker for those of a less goodly bent.
So welcome to my recruitment thread for Tyrantmaker.
Guidelines for Character Creation are:
- 25 point buy
- No Good alignment allowed
- Max hp at first level
- Classes allowed: All Paizo approved.
- Races allowed: Core races will get preference, but all may apply
- Starting Wealth: Max
- Traits: 3 total, one must be a campaign trait
- No 3rd party material allowed
Other things to note:
Your characters are supposed to be building a kingdom together, so your character should be able to get along with the rest of you party to accomplish the goals set for the group.
I am altering the Bastard campaign trait and allowing anything half human to take it.
I would like for anyone interested to be able to post at least once a day.
I will likely keep this recruitment open for a weeks time, though if I get a lot of interest I may close it a day or two early.

dotting for interest.
Question: I'm running Kingmaker, but it's set in Shenmen all the way over in Tian Xia. Does that disqualify me from submitting a character? I've changed quite a bit for my game, so I doubt it'll be anything like yours.
if it doesn't, I was thinking of a human antipaladin, cavalier or samurai with a desire to set up a bastion of evil. He doesn't want to rule, he's more of a power behind the throne/sword of the king kind of guy. I was also thinking of a debuffing/undead-focused cleric.

First, let me add that my posting times will be mostly between 9 am and 9pm eastern standard time.
Next in regards to anyone who has played or run a Kingmaker game or variant before, you can still apply.
I have decided to amend my original post on the classes allowed. I had neglected to state that I would prefer no eastern concepts since I would prefer the PCs be native to the area.
For AntiPaladins, they would be my last choice over any other class to take. Their Smite Good ability would not get much use and I definitely would not allow more than one CE person in the party.
For alignment change, no. I will not change the alignment requirement of classes. Though if you are interested, you may later on take the LE HellKnight Prestige class and re-skin it to fit the kingdom that you are forming.

Is a cavalier (beast rider) permissible?

Talomyr |

Very interested. It's been a while since I was involved in a game where the PCs were a less than reputable lot.
@The Winds of Fate: Any idea on how many characters you intend to take into the game?
First thought that comes to mind is a Human Wizard (Conjuration) with the intent to move into the Diabolist prestige class.

Cavalier is fine. Beastrider is okay too, though you will have to ignore most of the list of mounts. There will be no dinosaurs in the Stolen Lands for example, that is just too comedic a concept. I'd only allow a mount that is native to this land or at least the surrounding lands. You would also be allowed to pick a juvenile something that can reach its adulthood when you hit 7th level. We'd have to add a few things to the mount list.

I' agree, I prefer to avoid small cavaliers doe the same reason. I understand why they're possible, but I keep imagining Sir Diddymus from Labyrinth. Then I laugh. I was thinking of human cavalier with a horse to start, and then upgrading to like a dire wolf, or whatever the options are at 4th and 7th level. I've never done a cavalier, and I think I think it could be neat. I'll roll one up to day for your reading pleasure.

I'm not super familiar with a animals that would be native to the Stolen Lands. I'm thinking about making a Divine Huntmaster Inquisitor of Ghlaunder, but a strong parasite requires a strong host. I was thinking hopefully Rhino, or if not that ape or big cat for an animal companion. Would any of those be acceptable?

![]() |

One hundred percent interested. I'm thinking of a lawful evil (arrogant and self serving, not Stabby McKill evil) duelist type character, probably an Aldori Swordlord fighter wih the accompanying prestige class with amatuer swashbuckler and extra panache for a good parry/riposte mechanic.
He wouldn't be a ruler himself, but more like the chief enforcer for the ruler. He'd probably have his own small contingent of soldiers to carry out the rulers dark biddings.

Lord Bramwell |

Applying with Lord Ira Bramwell. If he gets picked, I'll update the sheet to conform with the character creation rules (basically add one trait and give him a 25-pt buy).
He's a manipulator wizard who lost all his family money and now wants to reestablish himself in the nobility. I'm thinking true Neutral; he's selfish, greedy and classist, and wouldn't mind working with evil characters (though he'll probably convince himself that he's morally superior to these people who dirty their own hands—but hey, he can still use them to his advantage!).

That Other Guy |

My tiefling pistolero has his left hand cut off, and has a buckler strapped to the stump. He uses his prehensile tail to help him reload. He also has a second mouth on the right side of his neck. He used to be a detective, but compromised a job and was fired. He worked solo for awhile, but ended up taking clients in the wrong crowds, and got engulfed into mob life. He could be a drifter from riddleport, coming into town before it all begins to stir, as hired muscle.
This is bare bones lol. I'm basically rambling to you.

The Winds of Fate |

That Other Guy - I'm preferring all PCs be natives of the area and have a reason for taking the charter. Also your talk of detectives and mobs seems more Noir than Medieval to me and not really fitting the theme.
Also, it would be helpful if PC's gave a couple of choices for what their roles in the Kingdom would be.

To my hopefully-future GM, I have this question.
How do you feel about me using this trait to gain proficiency with an Aldori Dueling Sword, so as to help qualify for Slashing Grace?
My plan has slightly changed for my character. I'm thinking of making a LE Human Swashbuckler who uses an Aldori Dueling Sword that she took when she murdered her father. She'll also use an Aldori Dueling Cape and use a lot of feinting, dirty tricks, and disarm maneuvers.
The Swordlord class is good, but I feel like not being one fits in with her backstory of being naturally skilled in combat, and arrogantly aware of it so that she became to lazy to learn the discipline it took to become one. Instead, she fights with her natural skill (swashbuckler) and killed her father in an argument about it. Now, she uses his sword as a sign that her skill was better than his hard work, and that she was always the superior.

So many Ideas...
Arcansist- Based off Kefka, CE (note, not chaotic stupid.. *shudder*)
Two weapon warrior/slayer- NN, Bounty hunter/Merc just doing his job
Zen archer monk- A monk that has taken a turn down aggressive negations on putting his views towards other. LN or LE, not sure yet. Basically he wants to bring discipline and order to the chaotic lands.
and last but not least
Daring Champion Cavalier- NN/NE Wants power, prestige, wealth, women and land. Order of the cockatrice.

Going the Ruler or General route. If your going to be a swaggering prideful duelist might as well go full tilt, all hail the bandit king.
Billy's father always taught him to "Kick them while their down, else they get up again". Those words have kept him alive. They have also seen him in half the stockades from from Port Ice in Issia to the Riverlands.
Being the son of a bastard from House Surtova meant always being told that our blood is the best. "Ours is the Right" his father use to extol upon him. All this talk of honor, heritage, and blah blah blah never really seem to make much of impression upon him. It didn't help that his father was a self styled pirate lord on the Lake of Mist and Veils.
Watching his father amass all this wealth by blade and guile just made him think that taking what you want is so mush simpler. Course his mother was in on the act, always trying to make him into a proper boy for a court he'd never see. But those skills did teach him how to prey on the foolish, and win with his wit as well as with his blade.
It made him arrogant and boastful, but the pirate crowd always seem to love it. When he's with the peasant it can be bad, but they know their place. Its with those poncey nobility, that it can get ruff. They can't take a joke, like when he pushes them into fountains for being to big for their breeches. Or won't let them win a duel just cause of their name.
Da, and the crew got my back, till the storm came and wrecked not every pirate family. Left with no money, mom off and drowned her self, and some angry nobles on his tail; he was forced to go on the run.
But being of the unsavory sort gives you play in all the right places. Being pretty well trained by his parent's, he found a good niche in the bandit game. Not much different from pirating. A little more walking and riding then he'd like, but not so bad. Being in the woods made for a definite change to his liking, less hard labor than on a ship. "Them half-elvish women on the road are just stunning"
He hooked up with Bloody Bill's band, and made good pay for his work. But Old Bill never had that touch like Da. Never really motivated anyone, and always listening to that knucklehead Silas. "Seniority shouldn't mean anything if your a moron, Silas. Got so bad that it had Billy thinking, Maybe its time for me to make my own crew. This is played out and Silas might have a dagger for me soon..
But just as he was starting to put the word out, the House Lebeda came down hard on Old Bloody Bill. Sly turned him in and got Old Bill the ax. The rest of the crew scattered or got the same meeting with hooded justice, not much since in staying there. Especially, with that treacherous Silas ratting out all the other bands to the knights. Huh, Da would say that Silas saw a chance and took it.
That's when the word got out that the Rostlanders were looking for some poor bastards to go out to the Stolen Lands. It was work, and not anywhere near heat. Plus side more banditry out that way anyway, might even be able to cobble a good group together. "Ours is the Right", seem to pop in his more often as he thought about. Maybe, Da was right. Maybe its time to do Ma and Da right, and take something for myself. Not just some band of brigands, but a whole "Bandit Kingdom". It'll even be all legitimate with them sword lords backing.
Billy Bellington is kinda impressed by the opportunity.

Fal the Reborn |

Here's one that would fit this hilariously well!
Falthariox the Reborn (Fal, for short) is a LE cross-blooded kobold sorcerer who believes he is a reincarnated red dragon. He belongs to a tribe that lives on the edge of the Stolen Lands. He believes he should start exercising dominion over them and figures that with the new settlers looking to inhabit the place, he has prime opportunity to get himself a capable group of "loyal minions and subjects."
He is generally selfish, self-entitled, and vain, and demands that if anyone wants his help, he needs promises of loyalty, treasure, and offerings (preferably anything shiny, but not everyone can afford such luxuries, so he'll take what he can get). However, he is also bound to his word and if he promises aid, they'll get it, and he is protective of his "dominion" and its residents. They are, after all, his loyal subjects and slaves.
Odds are, he'd probably be the resident magic enforcer, possible scholar, and treasurer (after all, it's HIS treasure, why shouldn't he look after it?) for the kingdom.

Cuàn |

I'm very interested in this game
Working on an Arcanist or Investigator of as of yet undecided race. They guy would be a LE/LN worshipper of the Infernal Duke Mammon, the Argent Prince.
The guy would be a watch/toy maker who is used to cater to the rich and powerful and now wants a chance to become rich and powerful himself.
Most fitting kingdom role would be Treasurer or Spymaster, though he could become a Magister or even Grand Diplomat if needed. He'd prefer one of the first two though.

The Winds of Fate |

-Fal, for the game you would still need to be a race that would be given a charter.
Or at least anyone who wanted to submit a monstrous race would have to be attached to another character who would be given the charter.
And given your description of the kobold, he doesn't sound as if anyone would want to keep him around. Or that he would become a comic relief character and I try to avoid those.
-Steven_Evil, you may take Heirloom Weapon trait for any non-masterwork simple or martial weapon that you want. Though it only gives you martial proficiency with that specific weapon. You would still need to take Exotic Weapon proficiency to use a dueling sword as anything other than a longsword.
-Aptinuviel, Aasimar/Teiflings are acceptable and their variant abilities may be rolled out in this thread.
