Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Thursday, July 25, 2019

Three flaming skeletons with mouths open wide attacking a 4-armed, bipedal alien with grey skin and an angular face and dark pits for eyes. The alien's upper left arm is wielding some sort of yellow energy bolt. The silhouette of another adventurer looking on in horror can be seen in the foreground.

We have some really good news to share about the Starfinder Masterclass miniatures Kickstarter! Paizo is pleased to announce that Archon Studio will be taking over the license to produce Starfinder Masterclass miniatures, formerly produced by Ninja Division. As part of the agreement, Archon will fulfill backer rewards from the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter.

About Archon Studio: With their Unicast technology, Archon Studio has published several board games with miniatures, including League of Ancient Defenders, Vanguard of War, and Chronicle X. Recently, Archon Studio advanced its technology to hard plastic, which resulted in even more highly detailed miniatures.

Archon Studio also recently moved into the production of tabletop terrain with Rampart Wargaming. In August this year, its second tabletop terrain project, Dungeons & Lasers, is being launched on Kickstarter.

There are a few areas we want to highlight:

Archon Studio will be producing plastic miniatures instead of resin. They will also be starting over with Kickstarter fulfillment; this means that backers who have already received resin miniatures from Ninja Division will receive those minis again from Archon, this time in plastic.

Archon Studio plans to ship Kickstarter rewards in waves. Approximately every 6 months, the pledge rewards produced during the previous 6 months will be shipped to backers free of charge. Additionally, any time a Kickstarter backer purchases any Starfinder mini from Archon Studio—whether that’s a new mini or a duplicate of a Kickstarter mini—they will also ship any released Kickstarter miniatures due to that backer for no additional charge. Details of which minis are shipping when, and how to purchase other miniatures, will be posted on the Kickstarter page.

Archon Studio will be fulfilling backers in Europe, and Ninja Division will be shipping to the rest of the world. Paizo does not have specific answers to fulfillment questions: if you’re a backer with a question about your order, you’ll need to post the question to the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter page.

Thanks for all of your patience as we worked with Ninja Division and Archon to get this done. We’re looking forward to some epic minis!

No new updates for this week either.

Someday, there's going to be news here again, and it is going to catch me totally by surprise.

Another quiet week so no update.

I appreciate the updates but I do have a question. Are you actively reaching out to Prodos/Archon each week or passively checking whether they've updated you of their own accord?

It is likely more passive than you would like but there's also no real way for us to make them talk to us and there's no real way for us to apply pressure on them to produce things at a faster pace. They took over the job of fulfilling this and were given a big empty hole to fill so they are working on filling it as best they can. They still need to keep their core business moving forward and are working on this as they have capacity.

The figures they have produced have been awesome and the future sculpts we've seen look equally great. We just need them to be in a place to release the next wave and I don't have any timeline on that.

Thanks for the honest and quick response even if it's not the answer I was hoping for.

Just checking in. This is the first PaizoCon where Ninja Division/Masterclass wasn't even hinted at.

No real updates that I saw about Miniatures lines at all. Can't wait for the Con to be in person again.

Hello everyone!! Starfinder enthusiastic here.

I'm not a KS backer for this game, so first, sorry for everyone that was caugth on the problems with this one.

I purchase some of the Archon minis and I like them a lot, but with the schedule that they have, it seems like forever to have a proper Starfinder miniature collection.

As an alternative, have you thought about selling the 3D models?
Of course, giving it free for all the backers.

I have a 3D printer, and I would love to print the already made 3D models . And I don't know but I guess that for some backers, having the possibility of printing their minis would be better than not having anything (like it happens now).

Maybe, you could even consider to make an official patreon or have a MyMiniFactory place to expand the range with a lot of the characters that the last books have shown us.

Thanks and hope you the best!

It's been asked, and it will not be done. The reasoning depends on on which party (Paizo/ND/Archon); either they don't own the models, they may own some of the models and have agreed not to make them available, or they are using the models to make some profit—or just break even—while fulfilling the kickstarter... albeit slowly.

Thanks for the aclaration. It's a bit sad that something that could have been an amazing collection of figures have become in this. Again, sorry for the backers.

And anyone know some place or modeler that made 3D sculpts ready for print for Starfinder?? Some Patreon or MyminiFactory??

Appreciate that you keep checking in every week. Definitely stems the tide of anger at Ninja Division having the weekly check ins, but at this point I am not really believing Archon will meet that goal post of getting any mini's out to people who don't order from them.

I know there are no updates, but when was the last time you guys reached out and asked for a status report on intended progress...?

Have you checked in and they haven't responded with reportable info, haven't responded at all, possibly haven't checked in in a while?

Thanks again Jeff, your presence in the thread is probably the only thing keeping the pitch forks in the sheds, but no update or news for months is a bit exasperating.

We check with them on a weekly basis but most of the time we are met with little to no reply. I know that they are inching forward on a few sculpts but with minimal communication and no proposed timelines, it's hard for us to share anything with you guys.

What I do know is they haven't asked to pull out of the fulfillment project so I'd expect them to keep moving forward, even if it's mm by mm. And we will continue to email and call and try to learn what we can and share what we can.

Big news this week...

Wave 4 should be releasing this month and Archon should have an announcement about this in the next week or so.

Wave 5 is in tooling and should be ready for release in August.

Wave 6 is in design and should be ready for release in September/October.

When will Archon actually ship anything to backers without additional purchase? After Wave 6?

That is the plan Archon has provided to us, so as far as we know yes.

No one has received any mini's since Archon took over unless you placed an order with Archon and let them know you were a backer.

I think it is going to be interesting to see what happens when wave 6 comes around. Originally Archon said ND would be shipping to the states. I will be surprised if ND picks up the phone when the time comes.

After the whole KS debacle, I have to admit I entirely pulled out of all Paizo products. I returned all my Starfinder stuff, sold off all my Pathfinder books and just ignored PF2. I didn't buy any minis from their line any more either. Petty? Yes, for sure, but I can only vote with my dollars. Today I had a viewer who works on the PF2 SRD pop into my chat and told me you were trying to redress the situation after I'd honestly entirely given up hope, so I lumbered into the forums after a long time of ignoring it.

I see you're working on trying to fix it. It was never about the money for me and I won't re-litigate the entire situation but I am seeing a lot of communications and I'm really happy to see the progress even if it is in small steps.

I'll discuss it on stream this week and perhaps spend some time learning PF2 on Twitch. Your communication matters Jeff, so thanks for providing updates even if there is not much to report on.

President

Thanks for the kind words, Raakam. I'm doing my best to provide what insight we have into Archon's processes but info is limited. And apologies for not posting yesterday but I'm on vacation and just had some time to post tonight. No new updates this week.

I thought I posted on Thursday but I guess it didn't take. No new updates for the week.

I was an "all in" backer, and I never actually received anything other than a handful of loose packed resin models years ago. I backed through the pledge manager instead of Kickstarter, so I wasn't getting updates about the drama. I have made several attempts to contact the project through the pledge manager (https://www.gameontabletop.com/cf91/starfinder-miniatures-pledge-manager.h tml), but have never gotten a response.

Who should I be contacting to address this?

Guess it depends on what you hope to address:
1. Getting some minis: Either wait for Archon to finish wave 6 eventually and then hope that Ninja Division (ND) actually handles the shipping, or you can buy some minis from Archon and let them know that you're a backer and they'll send you what they've made so far.
---
2. Getting a refund: No one. Not gonna happen. No one will take responsibility for this. You can plead the fraud angle to the Federal Trade Commission and the Iowa Attorney General, but none of us other backers have had luck with this.
---
3. Finding out the state of the project: No one. ND won't respond. Paizo is dependent on Archon and/or ND for information. Archon might respond, but there's a language barrier for non-polish speakers, and they are likely to direct you here or to their Starfinder page for news.

I'm just interested in #1.

So, are your saying I should have been reaching out to Archon? Do they have a point of contact for backers, or should I just use the regular customer service form on their website?

I guess it depends on what information you want. If you just want to know when they'll ship, the answer will likely be something along the lines of 'when they're done.'

If you haven't followed everything, Archon picked up the Paizo license and agreed to fulfill the original Kickstarter pledges. They're not making any money on those, obviously—pledge money when to ND—so they're completing the Kickstarter commitments at a slow pace.

Once they're done, ND is supposed to ship the US orders and Archon will ship the rest of the world. Archon has also been shipping whatever Kickstarter minis are completed to any Kickstarter backers who order anything, even one mini. If you go this route, you'll need to tell them you're a backer and give them your backer info. People have reported that, while they didn't get any communication confirming them, the KS minis did show up with their order.

You can see what's been completed at Archon's Starfinder page, along with the original miniatures that Archon has produced.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing the boat. It sounded like other people were getting stuff and I was worried my name had been left off the list because I was a late backer.

Speaking of ND; if they can't be bothered to update their KS page in over a year, how can they be trusted to deliver the minis?

@ Jeff Alvarez - have you had any contacts at all with ND about their plans and how they think they can deliver the minis after the next wave comes out? If ND were going to do the delivery to the US, there are a lot of logistical issues that they should be planning for.

Things seemed to have gone quiet on this thread, especially Paizo who had been updating almost weekly, but now have been silent for over a month.

Yeah, I'm not surprised, given what has been going on internally since early September.

Just sort of shows the commitment levels. Was waiting to see if posts would start here on their own, but at this stage it feels like even the effort of weekly 'nothing to report' is too much.
