Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Starfinder Masterclass Miniatures Partnership

Thursday, July 25, 2019

Three flaming skeletons with mouths open wide attacking a 4-armed, bipedal alien with grey skin and an angular face and dark pits for eyes. The alien's upper left arm is wielding some sort of yellow energy bolt. The silhouette of another adventurer looking on in horror can be seen in the foreground.

We have some really good news to share about the Starfinder Masterclass miniatures Kickstarter! Paizo is pleased to announce that Archon Studio will be taking over the license to produce Starfinder Masterclass miniatures, formerly produced by Ninja Division. As part of the agreement, Archon will fulfill backer rewards from the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter.

About Archon Studio: With their Unicast technology, Archon Studio has published several board games with miniatures, including League of Ancient Defenders, Vanguard of War, and Chronicle X. Recently, Archon Studio advanced its technology to hard plastic, which resulted in even more highly detailed miniatures.

Archon Studio also recently moved into the production of tabletop terrain with Rampart Wargaming. In August this year, its second tabletop terrain project, Dungeons & Lasers, is being launched on Kickstarter.

There are a few areas we want to highlight:

Archon Studio will be producing plastic miniatures instead of resin. They will also be starting over with Kickstarter fulfillment; this means that backers who have already received resin miniatures from Ninja Division will receive those minis again from Archon, this time in plastic.

Archon Studio plans to ship Kickstarter rewards in waves. Approximately every 6 months, the pledge rewards produced during the previous 6 months will be shipped to backers free of charge. Additionally, any time a Kickstarter backer purchases any Starfinder mini from Archon Studio—whether that’s a new mini or a duplicate of a Kickstarter mini—they will also ship any released Kickstarter miniatures due to that backer for no additional charge. Details of which minis are shipping when, and how to purchase other miniatures, will be posted on the Kickstarter page.

Archon Studio will be fulfilling backers in Europe, and Ninja Division will be shipping to the rest of the world. Paizo does not have specific answers to fulfillment questions: if you’re a backer with a question about your order, you’ll need to post the question to the Starfinder Masterclass Kickstarter page.

Thanks for all of your patience as we worked with Ninja Division and Archon to get this done. We’re looking forward to some epic minis!

Hi Everybody, I'm John Feil, Director of Licensing at Paizo.

I generally reach out to Archon and Ninja Division on a weekly basis to check how this is going. Currently, Archon is continuing to move forward with Wave 6 but things are slow due to many factors, including, but not limited to, the shipping problems plaguing the world today, the Covid crisis which interrupted nearly a year of progress, and now global inflation making many products much more expensive to ship.

One thing you could do to help is to go to the Kickstarter page and update your shipping address if it has changed. The extended time this has taken means some of you may have moved since you engaged with the project.

I realize this post doesn't contain a lot of granular specifics (if any). As we move forward, I will attempt to give you better focus, but I think it is safe to say that I will try my best not to set any expectations that then can prove false given any number of factors. Any solid announcements will be issued from Archon, so news should come from them first.

Thanks for your attention,

John

John Fell - can you speak to ND supposedly being responsible for North America delivery? I don't trust them at all - I mean they can't even bother to update the KS page with Archon's updates. ND's last post to the KS was 16 months ago.

Seconded RedRoom's concern. No plans have been stated to change from having Ninja Division handle US shipping. Can you update us on the state of what steps are being taken to ship the product once wave 6 is completed and the first waves shipped out to backers?

Ninja Division has basically disappeared. Thank you for stopping in and making a post. Was wondering if this had been complete dropped after the weekly updates had stopped coming through.

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everybody,

My apologies -- I don't check in here on the forums frequently.

I agree that ND is remaining super quiet but both Archon and ND are working out the logistics of shipping. Again, I reach out to them on a weekly basis for updates but frequently there is nothing to report. This week, unfortunately, is one of those weeks.

I will inquire to ND about NA delivery and hopefully be able to get more clarity there for you.

John

Dataphiles

Would you have advice for people who didn't back on Kickstater but instead are backed through the Game On Tabletop Pledge Manager?

I'm one of those people, and am hoping my details were passed to whoever is in control of this. Updating on kickstarter isn't something I can do

Thanks for the update John Feil.

Unfortunately the weekly update from ND has been none for over a year as far as their backers are concerned. The normal is for them to consistently not respond to Paizo's weekly reaching out to them - 'super quiet' is not really accurate (I understand that you are trying to be diplomatic).

ND did a poor showing on the initial 'first wave' when they were running the KS - Paizo and Archon seem to do a much better job on the distribution aspect. Knowing at best ND incompetently attempted to deliver, what makes you and Archon think they can successfully handle this distribution?

I'd rather buy something from Archon and get them to send the first wave to me because I have successfully received product from them multiple times. I am really trying to gauge if I should try that route.

Ordering from archon is definitely the safer bet.

Hi Everyone,

First off, I'll be on vacation next week, so no update then. My apologies.

In the email I received from Archon this week, they are still running a bit late on Wave 6, though I think they have all the info they need to move forward now. I'll be talking with them in two weeks, so I am hoping to have some clearer news.

I'm getting more clarity on who is delivering what to who. I'll update when I get more information.

I'll email out the question about the Game On that Realo Foxtrot posted. I don't have any personal knowledge about that process.

Have a good week next week.

John

FWIW, some more figs got released on Archon/Prodos' webstore. They don't have a blog news entry but the last Starfinder one from a year ago was wave three and I know there was another way inbetween (the one with Epic Obozaya) so possibly wave 5?

Two more vesk (yay!) and a human.

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your patience, as always. No news this week on my side. As far as I have been able to ascertain, Game On Tabletop backers shouldn't be concerned with any differences in their treatment compared to Kickstarter backers. I hope to talk with Archon before the holidays to get a better sense of where everything is at.

John

Hi, I know it was suggested we update our shipping information, I myself am in the process of moving, but where should I be doing this? The pledge manager was gameontabletop, and I've just changed that, but the Kickstarter surveys can't be changed unless we message Ninja Division and last time I tried that I got nowhere.

I'm in the UK so I think Archon Studio are dealing with distribution however I don't know how Brexit plays into that. So I've messaged them to see if they can change the details. But honestly I'd like a clear idea of where I'm meant to be updating my details as I don't want to lose my minis as I'm an all in backer and I even paid for the blue dragon :(

Thanks if anyone has answers

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everyone,

It looks like the holidays have taken full effect and I'm assuming I'll need to wait until next year to speak with Archon. I will be skipping this update for the next two weeks as the bulk of the game industry vanishes over the last two weeks of December.

In our next call, I'll ask Archon what their plans are to respond to customer service emails and messages. I'll hopefully get answers that I can bring back here.

Thanks everybody again for your patience. I hope everyone has a great holiday season, and I'll be back after the first of the year.

Thanks again,

John

Not technically an Archon announcement but rather Starfinder minis and it seemed silly to start another thread for it rather than just posting it here.

Wizkid's next batch of "deep cuts" unpainted Starfinder minis was announced a couple days ago. Looks like a Lashunta two pack and a dragonkin (yes, you read that correctly!).

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. If you ever find out where or how, I'd love to know, since my address for these is two addresses ago. I'm assuming at this point I'm just out the ~$200 for what I pledged, since there's been no updated on the Kickstarter since June of 2020, and if anything has shipped it's definitely been to the wrong address.

As far as I know, nothing has shipped unless you ordered something directly and told Archon you were part of the Kickstarter. Then they'll ship whatever they've produced for the Kickstarter along with your order. Several people in this thread have had success going that route.

Hi Everybody,

Happy New Year! Nothing new this week, but I'm hoping I can get an update by the time I post next Friday.

Just stopping by to see the updates. Glad to see John Fell dropping in on the regular. It is appreciated.

Would like a proper update on if Archon/Paizo is still trusting the thieving lying Ninja Division to distribute to the NA backers or if there is a more stable plan in motion for that.

Carry on.

I'd be surprised if ND wasn't ghosting Paizo too.

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everybody,

It was another quiet week, Archon is working on Wave 6 and is nearly done, though shipping prices and this new wave of COVID aren't helping much. I think we'll have more news by the end of January or the beginning of February. I'll keep popping in on Fridays to let you know.

John

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everybody,

No news for this week. Again, if you've moved since you backed this and haven't updated your address, please do so. No one wants to send stuff to the wrong mailbox.

I'll be out next week, so my next update will be be the following Friday. Hopefully with at least some news about where everything is.

As always, thanks for your patience.

John

I raised this question before, update my address where? I have moved and don't want to miss out on my minis, but there are multiple places where I could be updating, is it via the kickstarter, the pledge manager on https://www.gameontabletop.com/ or with Archon Studio.

Thanks for any help you can give

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everybody,

@Ceinwyn -- GameOnTabletop and Kickstarter are the best.

No real news this week, though we are now talking with Archon frequently about timing and logistics. I hope to have something substantial in upcoming weeks.

As always, thanks for being patient on this.

John

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everybody,

We are getting closer to an announcement on next steps. We will likely put that message on Game On Tabletop, and encourage folks to update their physical and email addresses there so we know how to contact everybody.

As always, thanks for your patience.

John

Thanks for continuing to post.

Posting just to subscribe to this thread, since it seems to be the only way to get updates on the Kickstarter.

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everybody,

We are closing in on an announcement, but I can't give out specifics yet as I don't want to mismanage anyone's expectations on a time frame.

Thanks as always for your patience.

4 years...of nothing

2 years of a pandemic...
Possible world war incoming...

At this rate we will be collecting our minis like bobble heads from fallout 3...

So many broken deadlines...and let's not mention the doxxing that went down.

At some point can there be an update with real info not kick the can along. Cause all I see is side stepping when asked if ninja Division is able to deliver their part...that's an update I woukd confirmed..

Liberty's Edge

Been a long time since I checked in on this. I hope this upcoming announcement is good. Might actually get me excited enough to play some Paizo games again.

I sent a note to Archon on their most recent KS and asked if they would be shipping any of the starfinder minis to KS backers. They responded they would not as the the wave would be sent out soon - no definition of soon.

@John Feel the silence on this is deafening. You've clearly acknowledged the consistently asked question, and told us that you're going to get answers, but months later you're effectively pretending it never happened rather than telling us what's up.

Point blank, this is a terrible sign. John clearly knew that there's a growing (and frankly, valid) concern regarding Ninja Division's ability to even cope with shipping costs and basic logistics. Silence here indicates that either A.) The situation with fulfillment for backers has changed, and ND won't be able to fulfill, or B.) Archon isn't sending the products to ND to fulfill backers. Simply put, if there was "good news", or if things were still simply on track to provide backers with their product via Archon manufacturing, John could have relayed that confirmation to us to alleviate concerns here. That's a win for him, and as a guy handling marketing/pr here, you can bet he'd jump.at the opportunity if he honestly could. Instead, he's gone totally silent and chosen not to respond since someone called him on this point blank.

I'd love for John to come back here and post something that genuinely refutes what I've written. I would sincerely love to be wrong. John, please feel free to pop in and prove me wrong about this. Otherwise we can take this as confirmation that the promised mass fulfillment to pre-archon customers has effectively been cancelled.

Hi Everyone,

Sorry for being quiet for a couple weeks. We have an announcement coming up but we are waiting on some key pieces to finish before we can say anything. My apologies, as always, for the lack of concrete details.

Okay, Six months sicne I last checked on this news and.....

What happened to the announcement back in February?

It did not.

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi All,

Still waiting for everything to come together. There's some technical aspects to the announcement and, as you know, sometimes simple stuff unlocks a Pandora's box of delays.

I'm hoping things will be ready next week so we can move forward with our announcement. I can't promise anything -- I've been hoping the same thing every week for a while now -- but we are getting super close.

As always, apologies for the delay and the quiet, and thank you for your patience.

John

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everyone,

Another week finding technical delays that pushed us out again. Again, no promises, but we are really close to being able to move forward.

Again, my apologies for this delay.

John

At this point I just find myself wishing I could get store credit for what I paid. Archon makes great products but this is obviously not on their priorities over Dungeons and Lasers or the new Pathfinder Terrain packs announced. Which looks fantastic.

I honestly never see myself getting into Starfinder now. That ship has sailed. If I do ever receive these then I doubt I will be able to resell them on the open market considering WizKids is now making lines for Starfinder. And I doubt I will put time into putting them together and painting them because I will likely never use them.

Appreciate that you keep coming back to let us know about more delays, but kickstarter was supposed to deliver in 2018. The 6th wave of Archons original time line came and went so long ago I don't even remember the time frames.

I'd take store credit in a heart beat over coming back and seeing this graveyard time and again.

To pull from star wars rouge one...

You where this close to greatness and you threw it all away..

Also.....I find that answer vague and unconvincing...

Over two-and-half years since I posted on this thread and was following regularly. Probably about a year since I last checked in at all.

Nothing has changed.

ND got away with fraud, because they operate in states with exceptionally weak laws.

Paizo has weathered any PR fallout and probably hasn't gone after ND for some combination of (1) money ain't there no more and (2) Paizo failed at performing due diligence and is consequently vulnerable.

Archon got the manufacturing deal they wanted and really hasn't had to devote resources to back up its promises.

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everyone,

Our tech team assures me they are getting close to resolving issues that have prevented us from sending out news about the first wave of miniatures.

As always, my apologies for not having better information on this.

John

Dataphiles

Well, I guess I'll ask again.

Did anything come from that question about if people can update their GameOnTabletop and that will be the address they are sent to?

It turns out, that after all this time, I am going to move for a second time

Paizo Employee Director of Licensing

Hi Everyone,

As much as I had hoped we could message out last week, bugs were found on the tech side and we've been kicked out again.

Messaging will include directions on how to update your information. Updating on GameOnTabletop is recommended if you are moving.

As always, apologies for no movement on this.

Thanks for your patience,

John

The news must be pretty complicated if it's taken your tech team over a month to get this announcement ready. I certainly hope it isn't yet another "kick the can down the road" moment.

It's strange, in the time since this whole debacle started I've progressed Leaps and bounds in my career, to the point where losing $400 only stings a bit. I've gone through entire campaigns, friendships have come and gone, whole friend groups have disintegrated around me, new ones have coalesced. Family have married, had kids, loved ones have died. And yet here this is.

Even if this delivers I don't have a use for it anymore. The best case scenario here is one day I get a package out of nowhere with a bunch of disassembled figurines I don't have the time to assemble, let alone paint. Just a physical reminder of how much I got let down by Paizo. I can remember a day when I would have been satisfied with store credit to compensate me for my mistake, but even if I were to get it, what would I even do with it?
