PaizoCon 2020

Tuesday, December 3, 2019

Join us for our annual celebration of all things Paizo! Badges are on sale now.

From May 22-25th, 2020, at the SeaTac Doubletree by Hilton, Paizo will host hundreds of panels, workshops, and of course, games for our Paizo community. Our goal for PaizoCon is to provide a laid-back and relaxed convention experience where fans can meet up and enjoy a weekend of gaming and related activities with each other as well as our employees. A number of our business partners, Pathfinder or Starfinder compatible publishers, artists, authors, and other folks from our gaming community also attend, providing a unique opportunity to meet the minds that make and support the games we publish.

Saturday May 23rd, 2020, we will have our PaizoCon Preview Banquet where we will show off the exciting, and sometimes unannounced, new books and content we’re cooking up!

For PaizoCon 2020, we are thrilled to be joined by Guests of Honor Kate Baker and Damien Mammoliti!

Kate Baker has written dozens of projects for Paizo, working on both Pathfinder and Starfinder products, but is most notorious for writing Starfinder Society Scenario #1-08: Sanctuary of Drowned Delight, featuring the colorful space walruses, the morlamaws. She first began writing for tabletop RPGs four years ago and is an active member and administrator at Freelance Forge, a community for RPG freelancers, where she loves answering questions from new writers. She is particularly excited about her two adventure path volumes: Starfinder Adventure Path #22: The Forever Reliquary and Pathfinder Adventure Path #154: Siege of the Dinosaurs. Kate is an avid Organized Play participant and she serves as a Venture-Agent.

Damien Mammoliti is a freelance artist working on tabletop RPG and Paizo products since 2009. He's appeared in many games, books, and board games since then, earning him a Silver ENnie for his cartography work in Starfinder Pact Worlds. He serves as the principal cartographer for Starfinder, creating battle, world, and terrain maps, as well as an illustrator for Pathfinder's world maps, monsters, and characters. With over a decade of experience in the TTRPG field, and even more playing in it, Damien strives for lively, realistic worlds and terrains that spark imaginations for players across the world.

We hope to see you at PaizoCon 2020!

Is anyone else considering taking the train?
I'm looking at the Empire Builder leaving Chicago on either May 19 or 20.

IIRC there was a group from Minneapolis a couple years ago who gamed all the way there.

Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis/St Paul, Fargo, Minot ND, Whitefish MT, Sandpoint ID, Spokane, Seattle.

Would love to coordinate my trip with any other gamers riding the rails.

We're taking a look at this and should have it fixed shortly.

Okay, so...

This PaizoCon 2020 blog post directs people to to the OPF website with an incorrect link.

Then, once you navigate to the OPF website yourself, it tells you there is a volunteer discussion group on Slack...for which the invitation list has expired.

There's a Convention Volunteer Registration link, which then leads to a page not found.

Finally, Sara Marie helpfully says that she's updated the hotel info in the FAQ, which doesn't currently exist on the OPF page. (It appears she updated the PaizoCon FAQ page here at Paizo.com.)

Apparently there were two links in the same FAQ but only one was updated. Here's the 2020 link. PaizoCon 2020 Hotel.

Not sure why the link keeps routing to the blog. I removed they hyperlink and put the full address for people to copy/paste.

Updated the Slack link. Thanks for letting me know it expired.

The Convention Volunteer page won't go live until the 5th of Dec. Since I'm on the road at PAX Unplugged, scheduling the page for publication was the easiest way to make sure the link opened on time.

The OPF page doesn't have any relation to the Paizo hotel block, so they aren't cross referenced.

The Events page still isn't accessible.

Is there an alternative way to see the schedule? I'm particularly interested in the very first events so I can do some travel planning about when to arrive.

Lantern Lodge Customer Service & Community Manager

Schedule has not been built yet.

Hrmm.
Is there any way I can still see the schedule for last year?

I'm more concerned with the kinds of things going on on the firsdt day, and the night before, and the day before.

Specific content doesn't matter, but Slots do:
Like: First gaming slots on first day are at 7 am? 8 am? 9 am?

Badge pickup night before? 7 am? etc.

How it's worked in the past is good enough for the booking of tickets and hotel rooms.

Five minutes too late to edit.

I think I've got this figured out sufficiently.
Official stuff seems to be 8 am Friday through 2 pm Monday.

That's all I need.

As he sets his coffee cup down, Captain Nomadical looks over as his new copilot. "Okay, let's run the Pre-PaizoCon Planning Checklist." He waits while the First Officer grabs the plastic checklist card off the glareshield.

Although this isn't her first flight on a Boeing 747 freighter by any means, it will be her first PaizoCon. As such, this isn't a checklist she's ever run outside of training. She's confident but deliberate as she reads the challenge items to which Captain Nomadical replies.

"Vacation Bid:"
"Submitted and Awarded"

"Con Ticket:"
"Purchased, No Banquet"

"Hotel:"
"Booked (On points)," he adds as an aside. To which the FO replies "Niiice" before continuing.)

"Volunteer Application:"
"Submitted, 2 Slots."

"Pre-PaizoCon Planning Checklist Complete," the young woman says as she returns the laminated card to its holder. "Next up will be the GM Prep Checklist."

Captain Nomadical picks up his cup of Pikes Place roast. "Thank you. Yep, this'll be a good Con. Good flying enroute, and great people to see at landing. You're gonna love it."

What is the plan for the PF1 v PF2 spread? 50/50? less?

For org play I would expect all PF2. Anything else would be reliant on people running PF1 specific games.

Rats. Just had to cancel my accommodation. I just can’t make it work this year after all. :(

Pathfinder Lost Omens Subscriber

I've signed up to run PF1 and SFS under OrgPlay.

If they don't want my PF1 GM skills, that's more SFS to run (and less things I have to haul along).

Hmmm, interesting. I wonder if this is a holdover or a change waiting to happen on the sign up page; i.e., a mistake.

We'll see, and either way it's a win.

Scale of the win of course, is variable.

I am leaning heavily on attending again... I need to get through Christmas first. I had a ball the last two years!

I don't really do organized play, but I might try to get into an SFS game or two. (My one SFS character has thus far been in exactly two games: one each at PaizoCon 2018 & 2019.)

Assuming I make it out there, I'm planning to run some non-Paizo RPGs. Games I'm considering include: Zombie World, Monster of the Week, Impulse Drive, Fate: Masters of Umdaar, Spirit of '77, For the Queen, Ten Candles, Girl Underground, Troika!, and The Quiet Year.

Let me know if any of those appeal!

There will be offerings of Pathfinder Society (second edition), Pathfinder Society (first edition), Starfinder Society, and Pathfinder Adventure Card Society. It will not be an even division, but based on what volunteers want to run and people want to play. I would rather add seats to events and make sure we get everyone their first choice versus having empty chairs.

We are looking at having some walk up seats available on the day. Approximately 10% of our offerings. We tried every table at 4 seats last year and that was too much open, but the year before, we had nothing for those that showed up for onsite registration and that didn't work either. Striking the balance is difficult, but possible!

For those that filled in questionnaires - we are trying to get through the list and get acceptance emails sent out. This will be hampered by the holidays (need some downtime) but they should happen in the next few weeks.

I'll be working on the first round of OP volunteer communication emails, after the holiday, based on those who have already completed the online questionnaire. Until then, Happy New Year!
