Quick question about Shard of Sin "Mysteries of the Crow" sidequest

On the inside cover is the quest given by Sheila's husband. He'll give rewards for any "discoveries" in specific locations, but many of these are tied to various Knowledge checks. Are these required to beat in order for it to count? Or is simply visiting the room enough? My first time GMing and it's not very well explained.

My PbP group are in the Crow right now and, whilst I haven't specifically given them the side quest, I would reward it through either visiting the identified locations and making the appropriate knowledge check (a good way of rewarding investment in knowledge skills) or making Craft (drawing or painting) checks...

Just to give you an idea of the party I DM, I have a group with absolutely no Craft or Profession skills at all. In fact, they were seriously considering taking along a scribe because they didn't want to be bothered with notes and map drawing for Sheila's husband.

As for Knowledge, the quest does not specifically state that they need to pass the knowledge checks to get the rewards for taking notes about these areas. The party earns the reward "...once they're reported in writing (with illustrations if possible)..." While it does say in an earlier sentence that "...he'll reward the PCs for every significant new piece of information they can learn..." I took that, combined with the other sentence, to mean that they could take notes on it and let Canayven figure out what it is and what it means. This seems reasonable to me since the Knowledge DCs are quite high for some of the areas. Also, there is no associated knowledge check for the Sihedron Shrine, since the party will not learn anything about its purpose until the final adventure, so just taking notes and making an illustration of it will have to satisfy Canayven and, therefore, the same standard should apply to the other areas.

What did my group do? One of my players has a character who loves Thassilonian history. He failed his knowledge checks throughout the entire Crow!! So, he decided to just take notes about the entire Crow after the party had cleared the place out, although anyone could have taken notes. Between game sessions, I gave him a list of all possible places (not all of them necessary for the reward from Canayven Heidmarch) and he told me which ones he wanted to take notes on.

So, I would say just taking notes is enough to get the reward. If they don't know anything about Thassilonian history, then hopefully they think to just take notes on everything and let Canayven Heidmarch sort it out.
