I don't love the icon for him but I think the crunch is good and I like the photo on the profile!

I'm a touch worried cause he is fully incapable in combat, but I know that's not atypical in Call so hopefully it'll be alright! Also, GM, are there any languages I don't have that would be very beneficial and make sense?

And rdknight I hope you don't mind that I took your formatting!

Turkish and French would be very helpful.

And don't worry about not being too good at combat, the team still need not combat character for the investigative part, and you have Hp similiar to a normal Investigator in Call of Cthulhu, but it's not that bad.

Yeah, I really wish Paizo would add more useful avatar choices from its newer publications. There aren't all that many that work for pathfinder characters, and for CoC forget about it. I don't much like Billie's avatar either, but there were only worse alternatives.

Doctor Edvard Asbjørnsen wrote:

You're more than welcome to use it. You better believe I totally stole the formatting from someone else who I don't even remember several years back.

@Paolingou: French keeps getting mentioned as an important language. Should I switch out Italian for French? I can't find any way to justify Billie knowing Turkish, so it would have to be French.

Yes.

Male Daytona 500 DM / 12

Thanks for making these characters. Both are very interesting. I'll review and make a profile for one of them and be ready to roll.

Alright, I'll switch the extra language to French.

It can be useful to know what time zones people are in since it tends to strongly influence when they are able to post. For example, I'm in UTC/GMT -8, the Pacific time zone in the United States.

This tends to make me a relatively late poster since some of the European, and all the US time zones are some greater or lesser number of hours ahead of me each day.

I'm currently in GMT-6 central time but I also am all over the place, I tour the country with my job so anywhere from GMT-5 though GMT -8!

Also swapping Middle English to Turkish!

After the Horror On The Orient Express is done, would anyone want to continue the story with Children of Fear?

Doctor Edvard Asbjørnsen
Since your Characteristic were so low, I decided that you can get another Talent.

I guess that sounds good to me, but isn't Horror on the Orient Express really long? Like it will take a couple of years or whatever to finish it?

It's depend on how efficient you are, and it's mostly take so long if you only played it's once a week, I think in this case PbP will make the game goes faster than in person.

I'm sorry to break it to you, but PbP play is always slower than in-person play. I don't know how to measure the contents of a CoC campaign compared to a Pathfinder campaign, it might be very apples to oranges, but finishing a 6 book Pathfinder adventure path takes an average of 4-5 years.

If a PbP game here is doing well, it will maintain a posting rate of 1 post per person per day. Sometimes things are a bit faster (at the beginning for example) or slower (holidays, etc.) A combat situation that lasts a several turns can take 1+ weeks to finish. Conversations can take days to finish.

Like I mentioned, this is a Pathfinder schedule. I've played here for around 8 years now and know it well. CoC might be a bit different, my total experience with it is playing a little ways into the first part of The Two-Headed Serpent a few years back. But even if CoC goes somewhat faster than Pathfinder, I promise you it will be slower than in-person play.

The campaign is actually pretty fast, it's just most people like to played it slow.

Similar to Billie, if we get there I would definitely be interested, but also don't want to put the cart before the horse!

Glad to continue as the game progresses.

Might need some help determining how the "True Faith" talent and its spells work.

What do you don't understand about how True Faith work?

And how did you know Prof. Smith? What ie your relationship with him?

Mainly… where do. I find the true faith rules?

I see your lists of “new talents” etc. but can’t open anything

The True Faith rule is in Belief Magic spreadsheet, can you open that up?

If you can't True Faith let you use Belief Magic, by spending 5 Luck and 1d4 Mp.
Since you only have Rank 1 True Faith, you can only use Rank 1 Belief Magic, which let's you create small magical effect that only affect a single creature, object, or small area like 15×15 feet room.

@Paoligou: I hate to ask anything that treads near spoiler territory, but we've already been in the zone with languages. Approximately how far above 0% are the chances of there being an airplane that can be flown anywhere in the campaign?

I'm really itching to scrape off a few points here and there to put into the Pilot (Biplane) skill. But if there's no chance of it being used, there's no point in doing it.

Male Human Priest (Dreamer); HP 32/32; MP 19/19; Dodge 70/35/14

The terminology is a bit confusing as to if there is a spell name or if I just attempt something to see what happens... but I'll just play it by ear when the time comes to accept something.

Montague went to Garmes Seminary in Paris. A hidden cache of relics was uncovered when he was a student there and the professor was brought in to consult. While there he discovered that Professor Smith smoked the same pipe tobacco that he did, so they became friends talking over pipes and fine tobaccos. This friendship grew and they became pen-pals often sending each other samples of unique blends they discovered.

This game is mostly going to be on a train, so I don't think you should put point inton Biplane.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Oh well.

Hi All
I have changed Ynja's back story, she is of Swedish descent but she was born in the USA, Boston. Her Father a Banker, moved to London during the war to work at Lydes of London. She did her undergrad studies in England where she met Billie, Moving from here family's London home to share a falt with her after they met at a car race.

Ynja has an American accent and directness.

She joined Yukio Tani (1881 - 1950)
At his training 'Club' for lessons in the Japanese art of Jujutsu. After seeing him at a music Hall, fight a man twice his size and win.
This is a true fact

Ynja Eva Ragnavold Half-Atlantean, HP[32/32] MP[30/32]Luck[16/16]Sanity92] ]Luck[16]Dodge [75/36/15] Privet investigator

I had good thinking and I think her having

Clairvoyance I feel is just too powerful too soon in the game,
I like the idea she uses the DREAM VISION spell which kind of does the same thing but is more risky and less game-breaker.
so I am dialing her 'mystic powers back' to her spells and just Psychic Sensitivity, which fits more and is less strong.

But I want to make her mentally robust, so use two talents to give her.

2: Resilient [Rank 2]
[Rank 1] Spend 1 Luck to reduce 1 Sanity loss/
[Rank 2] Can reduce Sanity loss to 0

She is a hard nut, a fighter type who can keep her cool.

Ynja Eva Ragnavold Half-Atlantean, HP[32/32] MP[30/32]Luck[16/16]Sanity92] ]Luck[16]Dodge [75/36/15] Privet investigator

Harry Mallin do you have a discerption :)

Sorry, this week proved busier than I thought, that’ll continue into the weekend but Monday and on I should be more active again. I don’t have anything I need to do before the seminar though!

Shall we jump to next day?

Paolingou wrote:

It would help a great deal if you would set a scene, do some world building, give us a description of where we're at, those sorts of things. We really don't have much of anything to work with when writing our posts.

A shared setting is really crucial, otherwise we're just having to randomly make up stuff to do or a place and people to interact with. Each of us doing this independently of each other just produces a bunch of chaos. You need to put us all on the same page by giving us a shared environment to interact with.

Harry Mallin
An NPC?

Enjoying this game and the characters... but we might need to be pushed along a bit. Haven't really done anything yet. :-)

Yep slowed down a bit fast.

Yes, we need some momentum.

Hope all is well!

Hi GM are you ok, we seemed to have slowed down to a post every few days. Which for a new game is kind of worrying.

Ynja Eva Ragnavold Half-Atlantean, HP[32/32] MP[30/32]Luck[16/16]Sanity92] ]Luck[16]Dodge [75/36/15] Privet investigator

Sorry guys but I am calling this one as a dud, shame looked fun, but GM most have RL stuff that has got in the way.

It was great meeting you all. ":)

Back online yarrr!

Male Human

I haven't been able to post with RL

Ynja Eva Ragnavold Half-Atlantean, HP[32/32] MP[30/32]Luck[16/16]Sanity92] ]Luck[16]Dodge [75/36/15] Privet investigator

Yep seems your not the only one Harry, things can wait. Spring is always slow and hectic

GM I think you have lost us a players.
The rapid slow down in posting lost momentum mature of the post we got means we have so little to play with. I am trying my best to keep this game going. But its not being reciprocated.

I'm sorry to say I think this is a case of game thats slowed to death.

Its a real shame, you started really well the setting was fun and a lot of work went into the house rules. But we seem to be missing that all important GM input. If I may offer some tipes.

1: If RL is getting in the way of posting, always be upfront with players. Place the game on hold for a time, players understand, they too will have Real life things come up that means they can't come on and post. GM bot PC all the time and that ok.

2:If a player dose not post for a whole Bot them, your the GM and thats all part of the job. PM them and ask if everything is ok, Like I did you and others. Then if they have a problem that means they cant come back ask the players if they would like to open up recruitment again to get more players in to take the place of the lost ones.

3:State the kind of post speed you want. once very 2 to 3 days is the norm. That we you will know if a player is having problems after say 6 days and you can PM them as in 2. It also means your saying to the players 'I am committing to posting once every two to three days.'
This means they can tell after 6 days if you the GM are having difficulties posting and they can PM you. As I did.

4:With posts every 2 to three days you want to make them full of stuff Plays can deal with, like

GM POST
You arrive at the street where the burned out city house of Prof smiths used to be. As you get out your caps and trams, The London rain of song and fame is coming down, Overhead grey and over cast skys. The street is on a normal London Edwardian street. And the burned out husk of a house is conspicuous. The chard wood of the building smoulder in the rain. A two London 'Bobbies' are looking after the gorking onlookers and press men. A Neighbor is in there front door looking on. And the locals at the pub down the street are at the windows looking on. While two more are picking over the burned out house. A well dress man in an over coat and hat is talking to a police argent.

Players can,
1: Go round the back of the house by means of a side street,
2: Talk to one of the police officers.
3: See who is in the crewed and talk to them.
4: Talk to one of the press men.
5: Go to the local pup down the street, see what gossip is.
6: Talk to a the Neighbour in the door way.
7: Look around to see what you can find.
8: Something other.

I did 8 something other, and got a leed. which can go onto the next thing, but other players can still do other things. As a GM I would have held back giving my PC info until the other players had done their things. And drip fed the info to more then one player. Making players share intel.

A post like that is not hard to make and can be done in no time. More to the point it gives players 'Things' to do and talk to each other about. which option to take and how to take it. All this can take 2 to 3 days of real time to work out and you as GM time for RL stuff. Then once all players have pick an couse of action, as a GM you can do a single post giving each feed back and what they could do next. 2 to 3 days each time.

Well I hope this helps. Its meant to and good luck with it all.
Let us know if you wish to keep this game going.
And what ever you decide thats ok.
Above all things Roll playing is meant to be fun; Something you do you take your mind of real world things, de-stress and take your mind to places away form problems.

If its fails in doing that, becomes stress and a problem, then time to rethink.

All the best.

GM Panic. Aka Ynja Eva Ragnavold

Male Human Priest (Dreamer); HP 32/32; MP 19/19; Dodge 70/35/14

Sorry about the slow posting. Not normal, but the first part of my week went haywire... Thought I'd have time to post, but you know what they say... The best laid plans...

I agree about needing to pick up the pace. This is an investigative game, and we need a little more guidance on what to do next. I'd like to continue, but it's taking us forever to uncover clues about what we're supposed to do.

Saying you have days to sight see London isn't really moving the game along. We now know that the man from the night of the dinner was responsible... but do we have any idea who he might be or how to find him? We can't search the professors house as it's burnt down. It's okay to reveal a little information to help us.

Ynja Eva Ragnavold Half-Atlantean, HP[32/32] MP[30/32]Luck[16/16]Sanity92] ]Luck[16]Dodge [75/36/15] Privet investigator

Sorry to say if the pace dose not pick up this week, I am going to have to walk away from this one. Will to give it a week too see.

I'm going to bow out of the campaign at this point. There just isn't enough input from the GM for this to work for me. CoC has a simple set of rules in part so more time can be spent on atmosphere and setting. But, we don't have atmosphere or setting because all we're getting is an occasional one or two sentence update from the GM. We might as well be standing around jabbering at each other in a white, featureless room.

I wish things were different, I like CoC and I love the time period it's set in. But, if there's not even an attempt to create a degree of immersion there nothing in this exercise for me.

GM, please move my character to inactive. I wish you all the best.

Ynja Eva Ragnavold Half-Atlantean, HP[32/32] MP[30/32]Luck[16/16]Sanity92] ]Luck[16]Dodge [75/36/15] Privet investigator

If Billie is out then no point waiting a week.
GM, please move my character to inactive. I wish you all the best as well.

until the next one.

Yeah, this game isn't working, and I'm too busy with real life problem to post.
