Wrath of the Righteous PF2

This is an experiment with homebrewed PF2 Mythic rules of the Wrath of the Righteous AP

Retraining House Rule:

Retraining generally takes a week of downtime. And you have to have found someone to pay to help you retrain. In some Adventure Paths (APs) there is enough downtime to actually make this viable (I'm looking at you, KingMaker, which had months of downtime). I'm not really seeing enough downtime in Wrath of the Righteous (WotR) to make this work.

Here is what I propose:

The PC makes a declaration to the GM/table that they plan to retrain out of X and retrain into Y.

Immediately, they lose X.

After a week of in-game time, they make a skill check (generally the DC of which is the Hard DC for the level of Y):

Critical Success: They can immediately begin using Y with no penalties
Success: They can immediately begin using Y, but with a -2 Retraining penalty related to using Y. This penalty goes away after one week of in-game time.
Failure: You still have lost X, and can immediately start a new week of training into Y
Critical Failure: You still have lost X, and must wait an in-game week before restarting training into Y.

For instance, if Harry the level 8 Rogue wanted to retrain out of a general feat taken at level 3 and replace it with a level 2 feat, then the DC would be 18 (16 for level 2 and +2 for Hard DC). If instead it was being replaced by a level 7 feat, the DC would be 25.

If Harry's feat was a Thievery-related feat, then the applicable skill would be Thievery. But, if the feat was related to something else (let's say Toughness), then the applicable skill would be different (in Toughness' case, it would be Fortitude). Non-obvious applicable skills would have to be discussed with the GM.

Singular magic items (for instance a +1, Holy Arrow):

Single magic arrows can be collected after a combat, unless they did critical damage, in which case they are expended.

Inherent Mythic Boons:

1. At Mythic Rank 1, the PC gets a unique Mythic Item. As the PC progresses in Mythic Ranks, the Mythic Item increases in power.
The player will devise what the Mythic Item will be at Mythic Rank 10.
The GM and the player will work together to devise how the initial Mythic Item will evolve over time.

2. At the attainment of Mythic Rank 1, 4, 7, and 10, the PC will get a free boost to an attribute modifier.
If an attribute modifier is already +4 or higher, it takes two boosts to increase it. If the PC gets a partial boost, the PC must boost that attribute again to increase it by 1.

3. At the attainment of any Mythic Rank, the player will devise a Mythic Feat, Ability, or action that, with the GMs approval the PC will get. The Mythic action will be directly related to a Feat, Ability, or action that the PC already has.

4. At Mythic Rank 10, the PC may have a second Apex Item.

Basically, it allows the PC to become more unique through inherent mythic powers.

So, Let's say at Mythic Rank 1, the Fighter gets a Mythic Breastplate. At MR 10, It is an Intelligent item that doesn't allow the PC to be flanked, and that can cast Dimension Door 3/day. At MR 1, it may only warn the wearer to decrease the Off Guard penalty by 1. Etc.

The same Fighter at MR 1, can have a Mythic Raise Shield that is a free reaction that does a Shield Bash to any foe within melee range, when the Shield Block reaction is done.

A mage at Mythic Rank 1 gets a Mythic Pearl of Power. At MR 10, it acts as a crystal ball, that gives the mage an additional spell slot at every available Spell Rank. 1/day it can maximize the dice on any damage die rolls of a spell (e.g., 6d8 would be 48). At MR 1, it gives the mage an additional spell slot at an available spell Rank.

The same Mage at MR 1, can have a Mythic Spell. For example, a Mythic Fireball would automatically have all its damage dice increased by one step.

So, rather than having all the boons be generic, this will allow each player to devise what they believe an overpowered, nearly godlike PC would be.

Anevia lets out a joyful cry as Irabeth appears. The women embrace tenderly before Anevia introduces her wife, Irabeth, to You.

Irabeth thanks you for keeping Anevia safe and swears to assist you them in whatever way she can.

After bringing you inside Defender's Heart, and getting you settled down, Irabeth will explain that she’s now in charge of the Eagle Watch, at least, until the Mendevian army arrives to help reclaim the city. She knows that word got out about the attack, but has also heard that Nerosyan and other cities along the border are facing their own plights — so far, she’s relatively certain that none of the other border cities have suffered as great a defeat as Kenabres, but she can confirm that this city’s wardstone has been destroyed and that as a result, the entire network of wardstones has diminished in power to a shadow of its former strength. She thanks Iomedae daily for the inherent disorganization of the enemy, noting that had the demons made as focused an attack on Nerosyan as they did on Kenabres, things would be dire indeed.

Irabeth wants to know all about your adventures — any additional information they can give her about the nature of the attack on Kenabres is most welcome.

We've found few survivors, battled demons and carrion birds all across the city. Are there any specific information you've looked for? I can give you a general run down though of the types of demons we've faced, their descriptions as well as some of the other threats we've faced,"

Krakas will go on to give her as detailed a description of the cultists, demons, the damn vultures, giant bugs, etc that they encountered the past few days.

If Krakas gets some downtime he'll want to scribe a few more of his scrolls into his spellbook and see if there are any wizards or magus at the Inn that he could maybe copy spells from.

I'll move to discussion for spell pricing etc for the spell scribing

Obahi relucantly enters Defender's Heart, but tries to keep his distance from people. Once the pleasantries are done, he approaches Irabeth. "Your wife is strong of heart. Trudged through the city with a mangled leg like it was nothing. Congratulations on your reunion." he gives both women a slight nod. "But I fear I may be sick. I'm not sure if it's contagious. Can I see your physicians, if there are any available? I seem to be suffering from a fever."

Irabeth will let you know that they don't have real healers here. Many of the Eagle Watch are Paladins or other champions, but true healers are pretty scarce.

I was hoping you'd regale Irabeth with individual stories, rather than high-level mentions about what happened. That is what the published adventure assumes. So, here is what I'm gonna do. For each of the various items you should be mentioning, I'm going to assign a 95 percent chance that you talked about it.

GM: 1d100 ⇒ 11d100 ⇒ 3

Irabeth is delighted to learn about the mongrels of Neathholm (people she prefers to call the “First Descendants,” out of respect for their original parents), and agrees to send some Eagle Watch knights down to contact Neathholm and work out the alliance.

When you mention the Templars and their safe houses, Irabeth becomes very interested. The Templars of the Ivory Labyrinth are, in her opinion, one of the most dangerous elements of the enemy. “They have spies everywhere,” she says, “and have apparently been among us for decades. Only recently has proof of their presence been manifesting. I personally managed to root out one of their more powerful members — the leader of a group called the Hammers of Heaven. We all thought of Staunton Vhane as a model crusader, but as far as I was able to discern, he’s been working for the demons for decades. There’s even evidence he may have been the one to betray Drezen 75 years ago. They knighted me for that discovery, but I’m still not sure why, since he slipped through my fingers and is out there still, causing who knows how much more damage...”

Irabeth trails off here for a moment before she shakes her head to clear her thoughts, then informs you that she can reward you for their efforts against the Templars of the Ivory Labyrinth. "I can give you a cash reward for each of the safe houses you can clear."

Defender's heart is a safe place for you. The building is quite large, and crusaders, merchants, mercenaries and others (roughly about 200 souls) have gathered here. Room and board are provided, and you can safely store treasure here without fear of it being stolen.

There are enough merchants here that you can sell off any unwanted treasure and purchase gear and supplies. Assume that anything up to 10 gp is readily available for purchase, and anything beyond that up to 250 gp has a 75 percent chance of being available.

Healing (from low-level clerics and champions) will be free. Other, more permanent damage (for instance Anevia's leg) will take more time.

Everyone has been expecting the Mendevian army to arrive, but, it has been days since the attack, and that hope has been beginning to fade.

After a few hours, where you can eat, drink, and clean up in your new rooms, Irabeth approaches you.

"Just trying to keep a lid on this part of the city is taking all of what is left of the Eagle Watch busy. Can I count on you to clear out the so-called safe houses?"

AC 23 (25 w/ shield) |HP 88/88 |F/R/W +15/+13/+13 |Per+11

Irabeth is pleased that you will clear out the safe houses.

Hearing that some of you may have contracted some diseases, Irabeth will summon some healers.

We will assume that the healers succeed at diagnosing your illnesses, and succeed at giving you a bonus to your fortitude saves against the diseases.

Later that evening, Obahi is completely healed from his Fiendish Rot, but Anevia seems to be getting worse.

The next morning, you set out for one of the two safe houses, either Topaz Solutions or the Tower of Estrod. Each of them is just over an hour away, now that you are not being slowed down by Anevia. Topaz Solutions is outside of Old Kenabres and the Tower of Estrod is inside the old city walls.

Which one would you like to go to first?

Krakas takes in the sights, thanking Irabeth for her assistance, "While we still have a few more of our own quests to take care out there, if there is anything you need for us to look for or take after besides just the Safe Houses, let us know," Writing notes in a journal, as well annotating a map, with where they've been, what they fought, and where Defender's Heart is, Krakas continues, "We will be sure to send any able bodied survivors we can find to meet here,"

Defender's Heart:

What the stains is wrong with my money-maker!

The Orc is seen staring at his reflection in a mirror behind the bar.
Seriously! Not one person could have mentioned that I look like an octopus have wet sex with an anteater!

The Magus then proceeds to get drunk behind the bar and passes out until well after the group leaves for Tower.....

Her blue eyes widen in a bit of displeasure, although she immediately smiles, waving to the young man that just entered from the stables.
Squire Merlin Brokencrown! How long has it been!?

Striding straight across the crowded common room, the knightly young human easily avoids any jostling, tostling or even bullfighting by a drunk and certainly depressed Orc from behind the bar.

All 6'6 250 pounds of him easily lifts her up, swings her around in a circle and redeposits her directly on her feet again.
It's Sir Merlin Brokencrown as of two days ago. I was officially knighted (along with a half dozen others) after the attack. A squadron of us were trapped..... almost got overrun by a batch of demon lead cultists...

The blonde hair, blue eyed, muscular Knight proudly wearing pristinely clean metallic blue full plate armor under pristine crimson robes, firmly holding his Helm with a Sword and sun pattern winks at her.
...but we didn't. We held. Reinforcements arrived. We got knighted and sent to Defender's Heart. Unfortunately I am the only one who arrived as yet. We got separated by a large force of demons, cultists and vultures (you wouldn't believe the amount of vultures out there!).

Pointing out the recent Team of survivors to him, she nods.
Your arrival is fortunate. We have a Team ready to depart and investigate certain sites that could be military and strategically advantageous. You in?

Merlin places a gloves hand on the pommel of his longsword.

"Oh dear! What's all this?" a man of sunkissed complexion with a prominent widow's beak but otherwise long albeit greying hair and beard approaches the street corner. He is dressed in layered, flowing white garbs, a long blade and a dagger to his side, a bow on his back, and several scroll cases hanging from his backpack. As he sees the commotion, he looks at the man in the centre of the 'square', and grimaces. Then looks towards you, and quickly assesses the situation. He ducks behind a cart and strings his bow. "You need some help, friends?" he sputters with a raspy voice with an accent,

There is no Obahi anymore. Obahi bid his goodbye to you when the Eagle Watch said they don't have physicians. He also complained about their incompetence in private. The exact words were "Idiots. You can't fight a war if your injured are not cared for. Who taught them strategy?" Krakas takes a moment to register the man’s appearance, his tiefling eyes narrowing as he gauges whether this stranger is a threat or an ally. The white garb, the bow, and the arsenal of weapons suggest a seasoned traveler, but the raspy voice and offer of assistance tip the scales toward ally—at least for now.

He exchanges a quick glance with Perla and the others before calling back, his voice steady but tinged with urgency. “If you’ve got a steady hand and a clear shot, we won’t say no! Just aim for the demons, not us!”

As Krakas speaks, his fingers twitch, readying a spell in case this unexpected help proves to be anything but. For now, though, they could use all the help they could get.

Turning his attention to the Whip Man, he'll look around and launch some rubble at him, opening things up. "Anyone know what this guys problem is?"
