It's a core planet to core planet trip, for what that's worth.
Here's some details provided by the Firefly Game Sourcebook on Bellerophon.
Tyrins: 7 M
Hanthus: 5.5 M
Parth: 3 M

Question on the vest! So I'm sort of imagining the scene in Firefly after Zoe is shot in the chest by one of Patience's men and (to our great relief) opens up her jacket to reveal the vest underneath that protected her from the bullet. Is that sort of the situation here? I'm picturing Wren wearing her jacket OVER the vest, and getting 4 Armor for her torso (T) from the vest, and getting 1 Armor for arms (A) from the heavy leather jacket. I'm guessing armor doesn't stack to 5 for torso, and further guessing that the vest doesn't protect her arms at all.

Harold Wainwright |

Wren, if I can answer, it works the same as my duster.
Better of the two for the torso, and then for arms would be your jacket.
I had to verify that for myself a few weeks ago.
So example.
Toughness 6 (4)Torso, (2)Arms, Legs
Hope this helps.

Daisy Mae Puckett |

opinions on the bar? Daisy would like to slap someone in the face but sending Brook in might brig them out but is it's a bunch of psychic hate a***&**+s, get him killed as well...
Little miss Cautious is 50/50 on doing something and just running away. :)

Harold Wainwright |

To bad it's an alliance planet.
Otherwise, going in with a bad way to influence friends and make enemies.
(AKA leveling the bar)
was definitely a thought. But then again, letting giving them time to stew over us, also a thought.
So in the thought of Sir Robin the Brave, "RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY"

Harold Wainwright |

Sometimes the best approach is to back off, let them think things over, and then come back to talk.
As for what they can think over, I agree on the little video montage and the offer to help on the video.
So wren and I can drop the chip with the bartender, and leave. We take a charter for another planet, and then come back, and we try again.

Arabella Stormworth-Darling |

See Arabella's idea in the Gameplay thread. If they were alliance aligned, they likely would have arrested Arabella instead of just hitting her on the head. So it seems likely they are connected to the group we want to contact. Giving them some information that would cast the Alliance in a bad light might give them evidence of where our loyalties lie and then maybe when we return, they might be less hostile. Or our contacts could be given the location and let them try something to make the contact they want.

Arabella Stormworth-Darling |

If there is any risk that a normal delivery service would require the service view the data on the zip drive, then we could role play seeking out someone in the underworld who would deliver it without such inspection.

Arabella Stormworth-Darling |

I just realized that the planet I got rolling random (Bellerophone) was supposed to be in the Core, but is actually a border planet. My confusion is from the fact that it orbits the Core star (White Sun), but is considered far enough from the core planets to be part of the border. Not a vital point, but thought I'd point it out.
The source book on the 'Verse says that Bellerophon is mainly a location for wealthy estates. There is no local economy, shops, or places for tourists. Security is high and visiting estates is by invitation only.
It is not a likely place where the psychics would gather, or at least that would seem the case to me. Still, if we want information from locals, it would probably have to come from Daisy getting in invite for her craft. The rest of us would probably have to stay near the ship.
If there is a cortex connected to the core information systems, Arabella could look for another job. I'll make rolls below just in case or perhaps we would have to travel to a nearby planet to find work.

Well, I had it in mind that this was a typical Core planet, so let's ignore the canon and just make it so (it can be a different true-Core planet if that really bothers anyone). So there are Cortex terminals, and "seedier" sides of the city you're in.
Daisy find a job for her, in a city about 3 hour's air flight from this one. The customer will pay for air fare.
Let's take this back to Gameplay...

Arabella Stormworth-Darling |

The nearest core planet to Bellerophon is Ariel.
Here is some information about it (optional, of course, but please inform us of any details you want to change).
Ariel (paradise of technology, excellent medical facilities, great restaurants, restricted landing zone) Ariel is a metropolitan world located on the New Canaan Run trade route and is covered with glass and steel cities. Its citizens have access to some of the finest examples of technology, and the planet is reputed for its medical facilities and dining establishments.
Ariopolis First moon, on perpetual lease to the Gehörnspiel Corporation, who specialize in producing exotic medicines; landing on the moon is heavily restricted, 4.5 k population
Shiva Second Moon, resource rich moon, Shiva supplies minerals to Ariel that are hard to obtain on the planet. Several colonies are located across the surface of the moon; a Class 2 Alliance outpost has been constructed on the surface. 4.57 M population
This much high tech luxury should require a supply of workers to keep things running smoothly and do the things the rich don't want to be bothered with. So there are likely enclaves of working class folks whose movements are likely controlled and monitored. If androids exist, they'll probably be in use.

Harold Wainwright |

really not a lot that I can do on these super civilized planets.
So I will just idle around the ship, and do a little side shopping.
(Nothing important, just cloths and other minor stuff.)

GM_ZenFox42 |

"Androids?!? We don't need no stinkin' androids..."
I found a reference that claims that the Firefly comics, written by Whedon, refers to androids, but in this world, *if* they exist at all (there are rumors, but there are rumors about aliens too...), they would only be used by the richest and most powerful people, and be very rare.

Arabella Stormworth-Darling |

Point of nomenclature: In the game, we were told the group we are looking for has psionic powers. (Correct me if I have this wrong). In SW there is a distinction between various types of powers, only one of which is psionic. But my suspicion is that any power held by anyone would be considered psionic within the game world.
The reason I mention this is that Brook's power is Boost Trait, which is more like magic than what we normally think of as psionic. When I think Psionic, I think mind reading, TK, etc. In SW parlance, he is gifted, which is vague.

GM_ZenFox42 |

In the Firefly setting document, I limited psychics to the following Powers :
Barrier (force), Boost Trait (self only), Confusion, Healing, Mind Reading, Object Reading, Speak Language, Speed (self only), Stun, Telekinesis
Most of those can be trapped as "mental" powers. I included Boost Trait and Speed because at least two times in the TV shows, when people started attacking River Tam, she started attacking very quickly (Speed/Quickness), and either hit every target on the first shot (Boost Trait/Shooting), or did massive hand-held weapon damage (Boost Trait/Strength). You can think of these as their minds pushing their bodies to higher-than-normal limits.
I included Healing even tho it was never shown in the shows, because it's always nice to have a PC that can try more than once to heal Wounds.
I chose the Arcane Background/Gifted Edge because it starts with only one Power, as opposed to the others which start with three (I didn't want psychics to be too powerful at the start, I figured River Tam has had many Advances). The name of the Edge is irrelevant, it is just what gives psychics their ability to use Powers.
But my suspicion is that any power held by anyone would be considered psionic within the game world.
That is correct. But probably all psychics are restricted to the Powers listed above.

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Wife is now transitioned to home care, so I don't need to drive her to the hospital daily.
Was sepsis, with the possibility of Necrotizing Fasciitis.
We caught it fast enough that it required draining an abscess, and lots of antibiotics via IV.
As soon as I get caught up on reading, I will be posting.

This can sometimes produce a different destination region and a different type of job, so take your pick.
Destination Star: 1d79 ⇒ 42
Star = Georgia
Planet: 1d13 ⇒ 4
Kerry: Uninhabited.
Alternate if an uninhabited planet doesn't make sense.
Planet: 1d13 ⇒ 6
Priam (Double Planet)
I could find no other information on this planetary pair.
Planets of the Georgia System would be considered a Border region.
Job Type: 1d100 ⇒ 96
Charter
Type of Charter: 1d20 ⇒ 12
News Charter: One or more journalists and supporting staff want to go somewhere dangerous, restricted, or mysterious in pursuit of a story. They might want to record secret government or corporate activities, rebel activities, humanitarian crises, ecological disasters, strange/alien occurrences, or more.
Charter Payment Offered: 1d100 ⇒ 87
Barter for Supplies: Ships need fuel, parts, filters and fluids, food and water. The patron might have access to some of these and offer it in exchange for passage.
Charter Delivery Requirements: 1d10 ⇒ 4
Speed is important: Cargo must be delivered quickly to the drop-off. Determine distance from pickup to drop off, deadline is that distance at typical speed so no side-trips or margin for unexpected issues.
Who is offering the charter job: 1d100 ⇒ 94
Branch of the Government: The government has its reasons to charter the ship and put whoever they want on it.
Charter Location: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Warehouse/Distribution Facility: Likely in an industrial area in or near an urban center. Set up well for efficient transfer of goods.
# of Special Circumstances: 1d4 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Charter Special Circumstance #1: 1d100 ⇒ 7
Passenger brings an interesting piece of information pertaining to a character’s outstanding backstory.
Charter Special Circumstance #2: 1d100 ⇒ 94
Passenger is someone from a crew member’s past who is estranged but needs their help ‘for old times’. Help could be transport to somewhere dangerous, free ride, or help pulling off a job or a crime. This person brings a world of trouble along with them.
Charter Special Circumstance #3: 1d100 ⇒ 60
Passengers are being followed by folks who mean them harm. Followers will try to board as passengers too, or any way they have to.
Attitude: 1d100 ⇒ 99
Psychotic: Whether it is a cold, reptilian, serial-killer kind of attitude or a manic, energetic and chaotic personality, this passenger is going to be trouble. They can disturb or even freak out the other passengers and crew. Or they could just be the very quiet person who always eats in his cabin.
Personality: 1d100 ⇒ 15
1d2 ⇒ 2
Off-Putting
Turning it up to 11: 1d20 ⇒ 12
For extra excitement/intrigue/plot complications
This is an entirely setting-specific suggestion but bring in the bizarre. If the supernatural exists, that is the extra element at play. If aliens have never been discovered (but exist), drop one on them. If horror is part of your setting, bring the horrific discovery or antagonist. Maybe they meet an actual time-traveler… and the news from the future is not good.
This second set offers ideas that might dovetail with the mission to locate psychics with possible Alliance complications.
Use it for ideas and throw out anything you don't need or want to deal with.

You got it! I'm not an accountant, but I'm the admin for a tax firm. Quite often I'm actually busier than the accountants are during this time of the year! It gets nice and slow during the summer though... :)

ALL - there's now a *fifth* printing of the SWADE Core Rules (check the bottom of the Credits page - if there's no "Nth Printing" after the "WWW.PEGINC.COM", you've got the original). If you bought your original PDF from PEG (SW's parent company), you should be able to download the new edition for free (just go to your Downloads and click on the SWADE Core Rules link, the title of the book in the web page is no different, but you should get the fifth printing edition).
If you didn't buy it from PEG and can't afford a new edition right now, there's a free link HERE that has *all* the changes from every individual printing.
I'll be using the fifth printing from now on, so there may be discrepancies between what I post and what's in your copy...

Harold Wainwright |

Well, this is going to make it difficult.
I do have the original, but work blocked access to PEG.
I can get it at home, but it will take a couple of days.

Sorry, I got tied up with RL. One of my Fur Babies, just cost us over 1k in vet bills, and we were not sure if we would have to put him down.
As it is, he still has issues keeping food down. :(

I'm always sad to hear this. We have 4 kitties. The thought of them sick and possibly losing them is heartbreaking.

ALL - there's a new SW RIFTS game that's just barely started, and we already need more players. You'd need the SWADE Core rulebook, and the SW RIFTS Players' Guide ($10 PDF).
RIFTS is on the power-level of a Supers game, with a mix of super-powerful tech, magic, and psionics to choose from. There are pre-made "archetypes" (classes) to choose from, or you can roll-your-own PC (but personally, I would recommend the archetypes). The GM is also allowing Supers builds (45 points, I think).
It's set in "the New West" (it's a RIFTS thing), west of the US Rockies. Specifically, New Salt Lake City.
I didn't mention it when it first started, because I found the Recruitment post pretty late, and the GM had originally said that he was looking for 4 players. By the time I got there, he had allowed a fifth, and then he generously allowed me to join too, so I didn't mention it to anyone else. But then within the first six weeks, four players have dropped out, so he's opening recruitment again.
The recruitment page is HERE.
