The door opens onto the room the party entered this level through, as expected from the layout.
Mrs. Book
|
"The map we made certainly suggests there is the room beyond that door and at least one more. This one is the closest so it make sense to start here."
| DM Carbide |
Viridian notices that the door is slightly ajar, propped open with a piece of rubble. He hears nothing, though.
The room beyond has a large hole in the center of the floor, with a metal ladder secured to the edge. Spiderwebs fill the space, though, and will make it difficult to reach the edge of the pit.
| DM Carbide |
From the door, it's not possible to see all of the ceiling. Is anyone going to walk into the room?
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book whistles appreciatively. "Now that is one big hole."
| DM Carbide |
As the party enters the room, Viridian glances up to see a pair of the large spiders clinging to the wall over the door. The view is swiftly obscured by billows of mist!

Joseph simply sighs as he drops his bow, pulls out his Heavy flail, and readies to attack a spider.
"None of you have a spare Fireball do you?"

Mrs. Book rushes into the room and splays a cone of violent colors across the ceiling of the room. It's almost dichotomic how the violent colors have no sound.

Joseph prepares an attack, while Mrs. Book darts in and send an illusory polychromatic dazzle up into the fog. She's pretty sure that the mist shouldn't stop the spell (it being an illusion), but no spiders plummet to the floor around her.

The spiders are fifteen feet up and the door is only eight feet high, Tibearius, so you're unable to reach one right away. I'll take that as a held attack if one comes in sight/reach.
One of the spiders drops through the mist and bites at Mrs. Book, but misses.
Miss chance from concealment; lo=miss: 1d5 ⇒ 3
Tibearius lands a shallow stab on it, but Joseph can't manage to connect.
Viridian and Blitz can take their shots, and Corbrae can act!
Spider: AC 14 T 12 FF 12 HP taken: 3
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book utters a moaned "Oh, oh." when her spell fails to take down any of the spiders, and a much louder "Oh dear," when it drops on her head and tries to bite her. Fortunately her mage shield causes it to slide off of her and prevents the bite from doing any damage. That or blind luck. And then all her allies start waving lethal weapons in her face while trying to put down the beast.
Well, that was a mistake. Time to head for the door.
| DM Carbide |
The spider has dropped to the floor, and is at the edge of the obscuring mist effect. Unfortunately, it's engaged in melee, and with the -4 penalty Corbrae misses.
Blitz miss chance; 1=miss: 1d5 ⇒ 5
Trip attempt: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Blitz hits, but is unable to bring the spider down.

Joseph brings his flail down on the spider, crushing its carapace. It falls and lays still, leaking fluids on the floor.
Out of combat for the moment.
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs Book wipes web strands off her face and shudders.
"Glad that is over!"
Mrs. Book
|
Unwilling to wade through the webs again, Mrs. Book slips out the southern door and makes her way back to the group.
"Well, there are some unexplored areas that way," she says in reference to the way north.
| DM Carbide |
Mrs. Book steps out through the door and is about to loop back around to rejoin the party when she remembers that Viridian and Joseph thought there was a trap door in the hallway. Do you want to continue?
Mrs. Book
|
I would have let it happen if Vir had not called out. I figure characters forget too.
Upon hearing Vir call out, Mrs. Book freezes in mid-step and slowly puts her raised foot carefully behind her. Instead of walking into the trap she calls out back at Vir, "Where exactly did you say that trap door was?"
| DM Carbide |
OTOH, it's been less than ten minutes for Mrs. Book, as opposed to over a week for the player. In any case, Viridian came through.
It's impossible to see the entire room because of the obscuring mist effect, but nothing has attacked the party.
Mrs. Book
|
"It is a bit exciting. I am learning so much doing this."
I assume we head over to the door I put Mrs. Book at?
| DM Carbide |
As the party is forming up by the last visible door, Viridian hears something and alerts the party just as the door at the east end of the hall is opened by a spider, with another one just behind it!

Mrs Book responds by blasting both of them with a DC 16 Color Spray and then making her way to the back of the pack ASAP.
