@Corbrae
Are you continuing the countersong? Not sure if we need to make a save or not.

DM Carbide |

You don't need to continue making saves, although the lingering effects of the poison make for an amazing display of colors and scents as the creature babbles.

DM Carbide |

Mrs. Book takes another piece out of the monster, while Corbrae, Viridian, and Blitz all miss. Joseph manages a magnificent blind shot and puts an arrow into it, but the creature's flesh flows around the projectile.
Round 4 (ongoing):

Corbrae
Mrs. Book
Joseph
Viridian (-7 HP; blinded)/Blitz (-16 HP)
The creature spits at Mrs. Book (DC 18 Fort save or blinded for the next round), then bites at Viridian and Blitz. It hits both of them (Viridian takes 6 HP, and Blitz takes 1 HP), then tries to grab Viridian and fails.

Corbrae once again fails to hit... and she hasn't the excuse of having being blinded by the foul creature!

DM Carbide |

Joseph, I think you recovered your sight at the end of last round.
Corbrae misses. Joseph shakes the last of the noisome fluid from his eyes and shoots, but apparently didn't manage to clear all of it...both of his arrows likewise miss. Mrs. Book blinks furiously to get her sight back. Viridian flails around blindly. Blitz, however, takes another bite out of the creature. It's not looking very healthy at the moment.
Round 5 (ongoing):
Viridian recovers his sight just in time for the creature to bite both him and Blitz again for 6 and 8 HP, respectively; Viridian is at 14/27, while Blitz is at -2/22. The faithful wolf goes down. The creature flows over the druid, and Viridian can feel a myriad of mouths inside of it start to latch onto him.

Now that she can see again, and seeing she has a clear path, she moves forward and casts another DC 15 color spray on it.

The map doesn't reflect this, but the creature has engulfed Viridian--if you catch it in the spell's AoE, it'll also affect the druid.

Viridian (-13 HP)/Blitz (-24 HP; unconscious)-acted
Corbrae is having trouble hitting the creature; Joseph manages to do it some damage with one arrow, and Viridian's aim is adversely affected by the amorphous gibbering creature clinging to his arm.
Mrs. Book, do you want to stick with the wand?

![]() |

Mrs. Book will be doing the Color Spray instead of the MM. Forum ate my post.

DM Carbide |

I hate it when that happens.
This time, the badly wounded creature is ready for the spell, absorbing all of its many eyes into its substance just long enough to weather the dazzling light. Blitz stops bleeding.
Round 6 (ongoing):
Initiative order
Enemy-acted
Corbrae
Mrs. Book
Joseph
Viridian (-14 HP; 1 pt CON damage; engulfed)/Blitz (-24 HP; unconscious; stable)
With most of the immediate threats dealt with, the creature engulfs Viridian. Viridian takes 1 HP and 1 point CON damage as the creature's mouths latch on and drain some of his blood.
Everyone can act! When attacking the creature, there's no chance of damaging Viridian.

Ok, Viridian is engulfed....and will try to switch tactics while his friends beat on the thing. I do not see any restrictions to actions while engulfed. Can he talk/use/activate a CLW wand? Can he keep striking with a staff from inside? Normally swallowed can only use 1-hand slashing weapon...etc

Miss Book, can't you summon a creature? We need something that could attack this creature from behind!

![]() |

Afraid not dear. Going to try to stun it again though."
Since she still has a clear shot with her cone attack, she tries to daze it again with her DC 15 color spray.
"Perhaps one of you could feed the poor wolf a healing potion or something? Or just move to the other side of the thing. It is a bit too preoccupied to stop you I expect."

DM Carbide |

Viridian can't attack with his staff per the rule cited. For everything else he's treated as grappled (i.e., concentration checks to cast spells). He could draw and activate a wand, though.
Now that Viridian has been engulfed, he'd be affected by a color spray cast on the creature.

Round 6 (ongoing):

Joseph
Viridian (-12 HP; 1 pt CON damage; engulfed)/Blitz (-24 HP; unconscious; stable)-acted
Corbrae tries to avoid damaging Viridian and succeeds at the expense of her ability to damage the creature. Mrs. Book looses another fan of clashing colors at the enemy, which seems to have perfected a technique for reabsorbing its eyes just as the spell takes effect--both it and Viridian manage to resist the spell. Viridian is able to cure himself a little.
Joseph is up!

![]() |

Seeing that the arrows are just not as effective as he hoped Joseph drops his bow, steps up to the creature, draws his heavy flail, and attacks!

DM Carbide |

Man, the dice do not love you folks.
Joseph switches weapons and tries to hit the creature, but the ichor on the floor around it ruins his footing.
Round 7 (ongoing):
Viridian is masticated in the maw of the monster and falls unconscious. Take 2 points CON damage and 17 HP, which puts you at -29 HP out of effectively 24 HP with the CON damage. Uh-oh. Then it spits at Mrs. Book again (DC 18 Fort save or blinded for this round) before biting at Corbrae and Joseph. The fighter/rogue dodges all attacks, while the bard is not so skilful nor blessed. Corbrae, take 7 HP. She at least keeps it from hanging on to her.
Party up!

Round 7 (ongoing):

The creature is barely clinging to life after the librarian's missile.
Corbrae and Joseph to go!

Attack, Ic, Crit?: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 3 + 1 = 18
dmg: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
It seems that Corbrae finally manages to hit, probably fuelled by desperation, and her willingness to save the druid !

DM Carbide |

Well, Corbrae, I have good news, bad news, bad news, and good news. The good news: you hit. The bad news: it's immune to crits. The bad news: it's got DR 5/bludgeoning, so you only do 5 damage. The good news: it only had 2 HP left!
Corbrae strikes, and the creature finally stops moving. It melts away in a nauseating slurry of flesh.
Out of combat!
The party won't be disturbed while healing up.
Where to now?

![]() |

Viridian coughs and gasps
”What…By the Green! Walking away from the…light. Where am …what happened ? Is Blitz ok?“
whew. Thanks! I was about to look through chronicles for break-glass-emergency boons.not sure if we have enough healing without resting?

clw wand on blitz : 2d8 + 2 ⇒ (8, 5) + 2 = 15

DM Carbide |

You’ve got more than enough wands to cure the HP damage, but the CON damage is not as easy to address. Incidentally, good on Corbrae for coming through in the end. The monster's minimum damage would have killed Viridian on its next action.
There's nothing of interest in the room.

![]() |

Mrs. Books tsks and pulls out a scroll.
"Well, dearie, I happened to invest in a little magic that should allow you to get back some of that health. The thing is that it is not exactly my thing. I might be able to fake it, but if one of you can use the scroll better than I, please help poor Viridian. Oh, wait, you can cast Lesser Restoration, right Viridian?"
She hands a scroll over to Viridian.
Used a couple of prestige to get a scroll with 5 lesser restorations on it.

DM Carbide |

Is Viridian going to use the scroll?

DM Carbide |

You're the only one who's taken significant stat damage, Viridian...currently down 3 CON, so your actual HP at the moment is 24.

![]() |

”Oh ok. Thank you. Sorry I was out of it. Still recovering from what happened.“
He unfurled the scroll and invokes its spell
scroll : 1d4 ⇒ 2
”By all that is green, I feel better. Let us hope there was only one of those creatures.“

DM Carbide |

North to the next set of doors?
