Missiles mundane and magical prove the last foe's undoing, and she falls.

Mrs. Book

"Good thing we found this back entrance. This would have proved quite painful from the other side of that wall. I think we should take more advantage of our discovery and head that way," she says pointing at the corridor to her east.
"Though we should case this room first."
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 for search results.
| DM Carbide |
The fallen enemies were wearing brass masks like the ones in the room the party entered through. On close examination, it appears that there's liquid of some sort stored in the nose, positioned to drip down slowly onto the cloth that hung in front of their mouths. They also have well-made light crossbows, a potion vial, and four smaller vials. Hanging in the room from a small rack are seven noisemakers and a key.
Mrs. Book
|
First Mrs. Book does a detect magic and checks the items out.
kn arcana or spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 for the masks, which are probably not magical, but just in case.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 for the potions
I'm figuring the other vials are poison and she has no skill at that, but in case there is something else magical...
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 for anything else.
"The masks might have a counteragent for something, or it might drug them up. Unfortunately there is no library here so I have no way to tell."
| DM Carbide |
While the party searches the bodies and before Mrs. Book can identify the potions, Viridian hears someone approaching.
Viridian, remember that you took 11 HP from one of the enemies.

Corbrae, at your level I think starting a bardic performance is a standard action, so you wouldn't be able to both start it and cure Viridian. Which do you want to do?
Joseph 'Cheese Slicer" Hanlon

"More of them?"
Joseph steps up and takes a couple of shots.

More to come.
| DM Carbide |
Joseph, since the enemy went down on your first shot, you can take a move action if you want to.
| DM Carbide |
The other two enemies advance down the hall and shoot their crossbows at Joseph, who ducks both bolts.

Out of combat!
No one hears any sign of approaching reinforcements.
Mrs. Book
|
Mrs. Book tucks both wands back where they belong and congratulates the others. "Nice work all. We sure schooled them."
| DM Carbide |
The first enemy to fall had a well-made crossbow, a potion bottle, and four small vials. The last two were only in padded armor, their weapons weren't as well-made, and they carried a potion bottle and two small vials each.
The room itself is long and narrow, with a heavy wooden door in the west wall, the row of arrow slits you saw from the other side, an iron lever set in the wall in the northwest corner, and a pull rope hanging in the northeast corner.
Mrs. Book
|
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 to identify potions, though I'm fairly sure they will be CLW as usual.
Anything else detect magic can determine?
| DM Carbide |
As expected, they are potions of cure light wounds. Mrs. Book detects no other magical auras.
Mrs. Book and Corbrae, please give me Fort saves.
Viridian Torr
|
Viridian will advance and check on Blitz
Good job!
He will pack anything into Blitz's saddlebags that others do not want to carry (crossbow etc?)
I imagine that pull rope will be more trouble.
Joseph 'Cheese Slicer" Hanlon
|
"Let's hope there are not more of them."
Joseph gathers any surviving arrows as he investigates the 2 rooms for anything interesting.
Take 10 on perception.
| DM Carbide |
In his search, Joseph realizes that there's a pressure plate in the floor (it's right where he's standing now on the map), and realizes that during the fight he stepped on it.
Give me two Fort saves, Joseph; Mrs. Book and Corbrae, roll another Fort save.
Mrs. Book

fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Not doing so well on those saves. Does not bode well for her long term survival.

Joseph gets the chance to detect traps automatically if within 10 feet of them.

That is, I thought, the Trap Spotter rogue talent, which Joseph didn't take. (I did ask about that, and you said you took Weapon Focus.)
