GM bigboom |
Welcome everybody! Thank you for joining my table. This game starts on or about Monday, September 6th. More instructions to come before then!!!
George 09-23 |
I am checking in. I am excited to get going on the 6th! :)
GM bigboom |
Okay, slides are up! Links to them are up top and in my name subheader. If the links don't work for you, please let me know!
Some standard things to do before we get started:
No rush to get any of these items done immediately - we're still about 1.5 weeks away from officially starting!
GM bigboom |
Looks like Deronas will go with the lvl 2 envoy - excellent choice!
Everyone, we're about 5 days away from starting up so just checking in on a few logistical items:
Otherwise, I think we're all good to go! Looking forward to seeing everyone in-game soon!
George 09-23 |
I updated the details on the slides. I too am excited to get started. :)
Floquet Zukhet |
I thought the sills are more well covered if I choose the envoy instead of the technomancer. Glad to hear it's a good choice.
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
I am bear with shirt and faction. That just about covers my boons.
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
Can I ask it for a cake recipe?
GM bigboom |
Ha! That's funny! Unfortunately, I never played Portal... but you can certainly try!
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
Tech Revolution is awesome. My Navasi is going to turn into a nanocyte once Gameday is over, and gey my mechanic a gun that turns monsters into data.
Also, I now have stats for Keyona's mech - both individually and combined. I know they're not technically PFS legal, but can I bring it anyway?
George 09-23 |
@GM bigboom - Is there any way to copy and paste the spell templates provided to the combat map? I do not think that I will need it for this combat but that would certainly be handy for all the PF1 games that I play.
GM bigboom |
Do you mean those cone, circular radius and line areas of effect? No, to my knowledge, with google slides, there isn't. They'd have to be drawn directly onto the slide.
I've seen some people draw them really well though so I don't know if that's because they found an easy way to do it or they just have the patience to draw very neat lines and boxes.
If you weren't already aware, virtual desktops such as roll20 or Fantasy Grounds do have such AOE templates that work nicely right out of the box. I haven't touched either of those in years though so I'm not familiar with all of their latest functionality.
George 09-23 |
The weapon damage to me seems to be out of whack with the hit point total of the monster. The fact that the unicorn can heal itself only makes the matter worse. If my character was not a caster (with Magic Missile) but had a pistol instead this combat could literally take forever.
Consider the fact that most players are only doing on average about 3 points of damage with their attack and only hitting (optimistically) 50% of the time for an average of 1.5 damage per round. Keyona does better damage but is forced to move to attack which will mean that some rounds she will be unable to attack thus reducing her total damage output.
This game claims to be more balanced than PF1 but it looks like the opportunity for defeat or TPK is much higher with these kinds of numbers.
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
I think Grumpymane may be tougher than the usual, especially since she may be the only fight in this scenario.
Also, my experience is that it is really difficult to die in Starfinder. Between getting essentially two pools for health and being able to stabilize yourself multiple times without a healer, I've only had one character in a game I was in anywhere close to death in over two years.
George 09-23 |
The multiple combats in my last adventure were much tougher. We had a character die due to the massive damage rule and it would have been a TPK for sure if most of the party were not second level. Despite this experience I would agree with you that SF is setup to minimise character death after first level.
This combat is going well (so far). My previous comments were simply observations of the SF system in general and no cause for alarm in this particular game. :)
GM bigboom |
We're nearing the end of the scenario. So I'd like to ask everyone check your details on slide 1 to ensure they're correct. I'll be filling out the chronicles based upon the information here!
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
So I have this boon, Against the Grain that says that if my decisions disagreed with those of the group, I can get rewards on my chronicle as if my choices had been followed, despite the actual results. It's for PF1, but I would like to use it here anyway. You don't mind that, right?
Also, it doesn't look like the art I commissioned will be done before the game ends, but here is a sketch of Keyona and Ippy.
GM bigboom |
Keyona: Can you throw up an image of the boon sheet onto the slides so that I can take a look. If it's not legal for SFS, then it cannot be applied.
That being said, take a look at my next post regarding the chronicle boon. Depending on what you want out of the boon, you may not need the Against the Grain boon anyways.
GM bigboom |
Everyone: We're almost done but to get a head start on the chronicle paperwork, I've pasted a copy of the chronicle sheet's boon on slide 2. As you can see, the unicorn boon will be crossed out since Sparklemane died. And so each of you can select to keep either the gnoll boon or the yeti boon. The unselected boon will be crossed out. Please let me know which boon you'd like to have on your chronicle sheet.
Side comment: Most people I know (including me) have generally gone with the yeti boon since it will probably see the most usage.
Keyona: If you truly prefer the unicorn boon, then I'll take a look at the Against the Grain sheet to see if that can be applied to SFS.
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
I'm very certain that it would not count. It says "Pathfinder Society" in big letters across the top. Keyona will take the yeti version of the boon. I'll probably run this for Ippy someday and see if he does any better, and put the unicorn on whoever I assign credit to.
I hope no one thinks I'm upset or don't think you're all doing a great job. This is the character's first game, and she turned out a little more goody two-shoes than I expected. (Also probably shifting her to LG after this, since it's closer to how she feels to me now.) IC she has all the negative emotions - and may be my third of seven SFS characters to get something akin to PTSD because of in-game events - but OOC I am enjoying this a lot.
George 09-23 |
The Yeti boon is absolutely fantastic. It is probably the equivalent of a Feat (2 additional traits) that is useful every adventure. This is definitely the boon that my character will take and slot every adventure!
@Keyona - Idealist characters tend to be disappointed in society play. Many of the missions require you to make questionable choices and some even push the line of morality right to the edge between grey and black. Of course you probably know this already and a little friction in role playing is always fun. :)
Floquet Zukhet |
Keyona, I’m pleased to hear this because I thought you was sad. Myself I am happy we could avoid the TPK in this fight.
For me it will be the yeti boon as it was clearly the ones with who Floquet got the most feelings to.
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
I built an 80s cartoon hero, so it's no surprise she thinks she can save everyone.
George 09-23 |
It is not my call but as a GM I would not normally allow the substitution of a Profession skill for another trained skill in a combat-like situation for the following reasons:
1)It allows the use of any mental ability score for the roll.
2)It opens up the class skill bonus to all classes for the roll.
3)Professional skill kits provide a +4 bonus to a roll while skill kits for Engineering or Hacking are required for not suffering a penalty to the roll.
4)Profession skills can be sufficiently broad as to encompass multiple skills.
5)This allows a profession skill to generate money and substitute for another purchased skill.
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
Just trying to find a way to do something other than "..." for the rest of the scenario.
George 09-23 |
Your character only knows what she knows. Besides it is always humbling to have your character fall flat on their face jumping over a ravine, not be good at combat or not have a clue about science. That is why it is a team game. :)
I would imagine also that you can retry the Perception roll next round and there might be more to do after these three rolls.
George 09-23 |
The social science experiment was actually pretty funny. At least so far. It looks like we have been played...
Floquet Zukhet |
I think totally. At least we made friends. Well it turned bad for the unicorn. She should have listened to me instead...
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
Profession: Electrician: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Also, art, just in time!
Thank you all for an excellent game. Especially bigboom; it is always a great experience to play in one of your games.
George 09-23 |
No day job for my character.
Thanks for running GM bigboom. It was a fun game with some interesting role playing friction between the characters over how to deal with the unicorn. :)
GM bigboom |
Success conditions!!
Primary: If the PCs successfully reach the sensor node and take the requested readings, they fulfill the requirements set out by Venture-Captain Vex. Doing so earns each PC 1 Fame and Reputation for any faction associated with her currently slotted faction boon.
Secondary: Though the PCs have been ordered to investigate the node, there are other resources and advantageous information that can be gained for the Starfinder Society if they do more than just gather readings. The PCs fulfill this objective so long as they meet two of the following conditions: the PCs became honorary Muckfurs; the PCs improved the attitude of Corev or Sparklemane to at least friendly; the PCs entered the temple without killing or capturing any of the group leaders; the PCs saw through the ruse in the temple. If successful, each PC earns 1 Fame and 1 Reputation for any faction associated with her currently slotted faction boon.
Congratulations guys! You've earned full rep!

In case you haven't seen or heard, fame is no longer being recorded on chronicles and notation of downtime activities are to be done by players rather than the GM. Details here: CLICK
Chronicles are located here: CLICK
Please take a look and post a reply here indicating whether your chronicle looks okay or if you need any corrections. Once I hear back from everyone, I'll submit our table to the convention team for Paizo reporting.

Thank you everyone for the game, it was fun! Enjoy the rest of the con!!
George 09-23 |
@GM Bigboom - I noticed that my character number is wrong. This is my first and only SF character so it should read 701. I will correct my printed copy by hand so there is no need to fix the character sheet however you should correct this when you do your reporting. Thanks again for running!
GM bigboom |
Oops, you're right I missed that! I went ahead and corrected it on the chronicle sheet and it is now updated if you care to re-download it. Apologies!!
George 09-23 |
Thanks! :)
Keyona, Red Left Arm of Shotazu |
Day job is now tracked by players instead of being entered by the GM. It's part of the season 4 changes.
GM bigboom |
No day job? I've one.
Take a look at the link I posted above regarding downtime activities.
George 09-23 |
I cannot wait to try out my new breath weapon. That is going to be fun. :)
GM bigboom |
Awesome! I've submitted our table to the con organizers for reporting. Unless anything else comes up, I'll archive this table in about 12 hours from now.
Thanks again everyone for the game!!!
