Beatrice "Bibi" Beerswizzler |
Wow...nicely done!! Peldur, I was about to ask if we were going to stand, but you answered that, didn't you??
Let's take a close look around, see if there's anything interesting to see.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
This room seems pretty empty otherwise.
Noroc Zverokruh |
The purple ugly came from that way, Noroc says, pointing and moving that direction.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Noroc moves closer to the North, finding a pair of short ladders that lead up the 5' to the balcony. Unfortunately, there's an invisible barrier preventing access to the balcony. Upon touching it, it seems that there's a wall of transparent stone.
The only way out of this area seems to be a stairwell going up in the Southeast, a double door heading south, or perhaps stepping back on the teleportation platform.
After about 5 minutes, your Aklo runes haven't even dimmed a little bit.
Carrufikus |
"Jumping through that magical portal seemed a little dangerous, don't you think? Now, how are we going to get out of here? I certainly would not sleep well knowing what lives down here. Maybe we should try the stairs going up?"
Noroc Zverokruh |
No risk, no reward, Noroc says dismissively as he points Bibi to the set of double doors. Now that we're here, we might as well explore, no?

Bibi declares the door safe, and Peldur opens it to a long hall with a single branch.
Elena Solheim |
"Onwards then, though I will say that this mark is troubling."
The party makes their way cautiously down the hall, stopping at the intersection.
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
The double doors that lead west seem particularly solid.
Elena Solheim |
Elena gestures forward. "Straight forward to the nearest doors, I think. Bibi, please make sure it's safe before Peldur opens it."
Dungeon Master S - 2e |
The door is locked.

Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Peldur immediately kicks open the door. It's a good thing too because the freakish inhabitants on the other side look like they're preping for an ambush.
Directly in front of you is a horrid thing. From the waist up its a hideous black-skinned elf with a mustache. From the waist down its a hideos tarantula body the size of a horse. Tal shivers a bit from some atavistic response.
Books, glass bottles emitting smoke, and clumps of slime fill the shelves that cover the high walls of this chamber. The southern area displays the dissected remains of several creatures, pinned to a wall like rare and unusual specimens. The head of a morlock, somehow kept alive through some mechanical means with tubes and wires connecting to its body, screams a constant hoarse note.
In the back of the room is another one of those things, but larger and more terrifying... and floating 10' aobve the ground.
Whatever freezes Tal's soul also spurs the elf to action!

Dungeon Master S - 2e |
Tal responds with shocking celerity before even stopping to think. Both arrows land and stick in the thorax. It's Occultism, but that's the same mod for you. Tal has never thought they'd see a drider in the flesh, but lo and behold. The first fleshwarping process mastered by the drow remains both their most successful and most infamous: the drider. Fusing the body of a drow with that of a giant spider, driders are a sexually dimorphic fleshwarp—the only fleshwarp known to be able to produce young. Although the fleshwarping process was originally intended to be a punishment for drow who fell from grace, the significant powers and strengths gained from the horrifying transformation are attractive to some drow, and an increasing number of lower-ranking citizens in drow cities volunteer themselves for the painful procedure. Innate magic, resistance to magic, and a potent knockout poison... There's a lot to consider here.
The creature in the back shudders... a laugh? and Peldur quickly finds his mind assaulted. Will
