Arlo observes the foul magic from the traitorous Lelzeshin. Standing where he is, he casts a volley of arcane energy at all of the various forms of Lelzeshin lurking in the room.

Hopper jumps on the back of the Wolfie and runs forwards. Turns to his right and keeps close to the wall.
"That's right wolfie, not to close." Then he reaches to his belt and takes out a Blight Bomb, which he tosses at the enemy that stroke Gurka.
The bottle flies in the air...

Although Oskar is appalled by Lelzeshin's treachery, he cannot help but feel that this will make for an excellent plot in the opera he plans to compose about the pathfinders' adventures. Already fragments of the libretto are coming to him, which he helpfully shares with his comrades.
Performance for Lingering Composition, persona mask: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 11 + 1 = 31 One focus point spent, leaving Oskar with 0. If that is a critical success then Inspire Courage lasts for 4 rounds
Everyone within 60' of Oskar gains a +1 status bonus to attacks, damage, and saves vs fear.
Then he moves into the room and fires an arrow at the traitorous steward.

Gurka charges, but Lelzeshin spots her and dodges.
Phineas shoots air out of his hands.
Black Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Grey Reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24
Both manage to dodge the worst.
Franzine moves up.
Hopper lobs a bomb, which lands squarely on Lelzeshin.
Arlo channels a lawn sprinkler and sends arrows flying in all directions.
Oskar begins inspiring courage, and his melody hangs in the air. His arrow, however, falls to the ground short of its target.
The darker mirror image walks up to Phineas. With a vacant stare, it slashes him twice with a kukri.
Kukri: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Kukri, MAP: 1d20 + 9 - 5 ⇒ (16) + 9 - 5 = 20
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
One hits, opening a gash.
The lighter mirror image walks up, and does the same.
Kukri, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 2 = 28
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 plus Sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 plus Sneak: 1d6 ⇒ 3
The kukri slices into a particularly vital spot, and Phineas feels a warm rush of blood. (Crit!)
Lelzeshin smiles politely. "I have been very impressed with the way that you've accorded yourselves in court. If you put down your weapons, I promise that I will make your death as painless as possible. However, it will need to be a little painful, as my cover story demands that you died fighting."
He slashes at Gurka.
Kukri: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
Slashing: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 3) + 2 = 11
He sees Franzine and almost decides not to kill you. Almost. Resistance 5 to Gurka, and Lelzeshin is Enfeebled 2 until the end of his next turn.
"From what I tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire."
Lelzeshin sends a bolt of flame at Franzine.
Produce Flame, MAP: 1d20 + 12 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 12 - 5 = 16

*The ally is unharmed by the triggering damage.
Or
*The ally gains resistance to all damage against the triggering damage equal to 2 + your level. After the damaging effect is applied, the enemy becomes enfeebled 2 until the end of its next turn.

Arlo holds his position. Looking toward who he guesses is the "real" Lelzeshin, he smiles and casts a spell. "I hope this works! It would be hilarious if it does!"
He casts Hideous Laughter at purple. It's a DC 19 will save. See below for possible effects. He'll also raise a shield spell.
Following the enchantment he sends toward Lelzeshin, Arlo conjures a magical shield in front of him.
Success The target is plagued with uncontrollable laugher. It can't use reactions.
Failure The target is slowed 1 and can't use reactions.
Critical Failure The target falls prone and can't use actions or reactions for 1 round. It then suffers the failure effects.

Hopper takes out Quicksilver mutagen, he uncorks the bottle and drinks it all. He tosses the empty flask to the ground, and a second later through his body goes a wave of spasms. He crouches on the wolfie as his limbs are stretching and the finger becomes longer. He growls in pain as his goblin body is under the effect of a mutagen.
After a couple of seconds, he straightens up, and with a swift move he grabs another bottle from behind his belt filled with orange fluid.
"You hold with those who favor fire? That would be my sunshine, let me share my joy with you."

@GM I noticed that you wrote that Lelzeshin was damaged by -2 (from Anjo Magic Misle), did you forgot Hopper's poison damage (8 regular and persistent)? Or you did not forget it, but our archenemy is resistant?

GM Watery Soup |

Lelzeshin is not resistant - I just forgot to put it on the tracker. Or, more accurately, I forgot to re-put it on the tracker. (My computer crashed mid-post yesterday but I was able to recover my last preview from Paizo's cache, I had to redo a bunch of stuff.)
Persistent Poison: 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Flat Check: 1d20 ⇒ 19
---
Phineas scurries back and heals himself. Gurka and Franzine stand their ground and hack, but only Gurka lands a blow. Oskar's magic missiles slam into Lelzeshin's face. I think it's +1 as well, but I do wonder what would happen if you sent missiles at different targets, since you'd be getting different damage rolls per target.
Arlo casts a spell.
Lelzeshin Will, DC 19: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Lelzeshin laughs.
Hopper drinks a mutagen and throws a bomb.
---
Black moves to flank Franzine, growling.
Kukri, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 2 = 28
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 plus Precision: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Kukri, flanking, MAP: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 - 5 = 16
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 plus Precision: 1d6 ⇒ 4
The first one strikes. I will not assume you want to use Shield Block - Black goes before Grey (who will go for Gurka) and Lelzeshin (who's still in melee) so you have a decision about your reaction.
The current status:
Round 2 Intermission
Universal: Inspire Courage (2/4)
Lelzeshin (-49 hp, enfeebled 2 0/1, slow 1, 3 persistent fire)
Oskar
Hopper (-6 hp)
Arlo (Clumsy 1, hideous laughter)
Phineas
Franzine reaction
Gurka (-15 hp)
Black Mirrored Lelzeshin (-8 hp) (1 action)
Grey Mirrored Lelzeshin (-6 hp)
Grey takes advantage of the situation and goes for Gurka.
Kukri, flanking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 2 = 31
Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 plus Precision: 1d6 ⇒ 6

Slashing: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6 plus Precision: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Its first Strike cuts very deep. I assume Gurka will Shield Block, for -17 hp. If Franzine didn't use her own reaction, she can Glimpse this to -11 hp. It actually matters, because ...
Lelzeshin slashes once at 1d2 ⇒ 2 Gurka (Sorry, Gurka).
Kukri, flanking, enfeebled: 1d20 + 13 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 13 + 2 - 2 = 30
Slashing: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10 plus Precision: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
I believe this is a crit because Shield dismisses once you use it. I think Gurka is at Dying 2 in any case if Shield dismisses; Gurka is either at Dying 1 or still up (barely) if Shield doesn't dismiss. But I wanted to pause for a rules check since death is involved.
He mutters, "Destruction ice is also great and would suffice." He laughs at his own joke, and then scurries away.

Reminder to everyone that Inspire Courage should add +1 to all your attack rolls and damage - might be enough to make Phineas' Elemental Toss a crit if it wasn't already included...

GM Watery Soup |

It won't be enough to crit, but it'll be enough to make me realize that I missed his Elemental Toss!
Retcon:
Elemental Toss hits; it's -11 damage with Inspire Courage. More importantly, it uses Lelzeshin's Nimble Dodge reaction, so Arlo's subsequent acid arrow becomes a hit ... and brings down Lelzeshin!
The mirror images look at each other, shrug, and disappear.
End of Combat!
---
As Lelzeshin falls, quakes start to wrack the vault. They shatter the mirrored walls, opening to tunnels beyond. The ceiling collapses, blocking off the doors that the Pathfinders traveled through to enter the vault.
End of scenario! (Yep, it ends on a cliffhanger.)

GM Watery Soup |

The ground trembles. A smattering of dirt and debris trickles from the ceiling of King Webhekiz’s vaults, then a chunk of the ceiling collapses, blocking off the vault’s entrance. Cracks appear in the vault’s mirrored walls. With a thunderous crack, the walls shatter, revealing new tunnels. On the ground, blood oozes from the corpse of a Bhopanese human man, his long aardvark snout twisted into an agonized snarl. In the center of the vault is a pedestal covered in greenery, upon which rests a wooden circlet. The circlet sprouts flowers and leaves that flourish, wither, and die in and endless cycle.
As the tremors end, a telepathic voice reaches out from within the circlet. “Wh-who are you? You are not of Bhopan, yet you stand before the Perennial Crown. A-and that presence. Such rage, such bloodthirst. Tell me it is not so. Tell me that Qxal has not discovered Bhopan. Tell me that they have not discovered the crown."

![]() |

Oskar pats Phineas on the shoulder reassuringly. "Maybe so, but still, what a plot twist! It will be the perfect segue to intermission! Once I get this opera onto the stage, why, it's certain to be my biggest hit yet!" He pauses a bit uncertainly. "Though I will have to give some thought to how to make Act II even more stupendous... Hmmm, where is my quill?" Lost in an artistic reverie, if Oskar takes any notice of the intrusive telepathic voice, he shows no sign of it - sometimes the muse must not be disturbed!

![]() |

As the chamber begins to quake and fall in pieces on top of the group, Franzine holds her shield over her head to protect herself from falling rock.
She hears the voice from the crown and moves toward it.
Who is Qxal!?! No! We are not native of Bhopan! She calls out to the crown.
She gets into arms reach of the crown and tells it of the current situation.
The chamber is collapsing! You will be buried for eons if we do not take you away from here? Let us take you to safety, then you can tell us who Qxal is and what is going on!!!
She grabs the crown and runs with her companions to the safest tunnel.
With Oskar at her side as they run, she shouts over the rumbling of the room and the crash of falling debris.
I would love to be the narrator between scenes of your opera when we get home! But, let's save ourselves first!!!

![]() |

Phineas springs back to his feet, his drama forgotten. "What's this then? A talking crown! Ahoy hoy, Crown! We are not of Bhopan, but have great respect and dare I say a growing love for your land! I am Phineas Hatt, barkeep and adventurer! We are Pathfinders, of the Pathfinder Society, lately come to Bhopan and happy to be alive! A treacherous seneschal to the King, May He Live Forever, tried to kill us, but we defeated him! Pray tell us more of yourself and who this Qxal is!"

GM Watery Soup |

Phineas - can you please post your Downtime in the Discussion thread?

GM Watery Soup |

Who is Qxal!?
"Pray tell us more of yourself and who this Qxal is!"
“When I was alive, I was known as Audho of Bhopan. My people settled in the Mwangi Expanse long ago but were ultimately slain by Qxal before myself and a few others stole their crown. I was lucky enough to survive, and I swore to protect the crown until my people were safe from Qxal’s influence.”
“We knew Qxal by many names: The Death that Strides Among Leaves, the Burrower Through the Barrows, and the Thorned Monarch. Whatever the name, they are a malevolent fey who was imprisoned upon Golarion long ago—an entity older than most civilizations, utterly consumed by spite. My people were able to learn little else before we were almost entirely destroyed.”

![]() |

Thank Iomedae the tremors stopped.
She sighs in relief.
Is everyone okay? Anybody hurt?
Franzine looks around the room to make sure everyone's alright and no more debris falls from the ceiling. She holds the circlet up to get a better look at it and address it.
You're going to take us to this Qxal so that we can destroy them. Am I correct?

GM Watery Soup |

You're going to take us to this Qxal so that we can destroy them. Am I correct?
"Do not be foolish. You are in no position to defeat Qxal. You may not even be capable of fleeing their wrath. Whatever happens, you must not let this crown get into their hands!"
“They seek to control everything they see and built a demiplane within which to magnify their control and magic. But when we stole this crown—the key to controlling the plane’s power—they were left with a shadow of their former abilities. Even so weakened, they were able to lay waste in retribution to those of my people who could not flee
to this island fast enough, though I suspect revenge was merely a whim compared to their ongoing schemes to get the crown back.”

![]() |

This Qxal does sound very powerful. Well, apparently, we need to get you out of here. Is there someplace we need to take you?
You said you stole this crown. I have the feeling this Qxal or his servants will be coming to reclaim it. Do you have any special powers to bestow upon us if one of us were to place you upon our head?

GM Watery Soup |

This Qxal does sound very powerful. Well, apparently, we need to get you out of here. Is there someplace we need to take you?"
"With the vault opened," she explains, "its protections against Qxal are gone too. If she’s stuck here, it’s only a matter of time before Qxal finds her and uses the crown’s power to bring ruin once again. You need to get the crown as far away from here as you can."
"Do you have any special powers to bestow upon us if one of us were to place you upon our head?"
"I will grant you the power of looking fabulous. But alas, my guidance would only be limited to a +1 circumstance bonus on skill checks to overcome the obstacles nearby."
---
The earthquakes that wracked the island just moments beforehand have completely collapsed much of the ancient vaults, shattering passageways and creating new ones as hallways burst open into sealed chambers.
The Pathfinders identify a series of obstacles that they must overcome.
(1) The Treacherous Pit
The floor of the vaults has given way, collapsing hundreds of feet down into the Darklands. Characters can use Acrobatics (to balance along a thin ledge) or Athletics (to scale across a jagged wall).
Each character must make 1 check. As all of these will take more than 24 seconds, Inspire Competence will not apply. But whoever wears the crown gets a +1.

![]() |

"Uhh. Yeeeeeah....I'm not liking the look of this. As we found out when we had to climb up to where those goats were, I'm not much for climbing or balancing. I hope there's a plan to get us past this."
Arlo is +2 acrobatics and +0 athletics. In the very least, maybe he should try on the crown.

![]() |

Hopper looks at the crown and asks
"Ok, let us take a step back. Why do you, Audho, speak as you are the crown? How did you get bounded to it? And if the vault was protecting the crown from the might Qxal what is the long therm plan to keep it protected? We can carry you away from this island, but I have no desire to be crushed by this Qxal and his henchmen."
Asks Hopper.
=====================
When looking into the Pit Hopper eyes Arlo and the others.
"I can share with you some mutagen that would make you more nimble." Quicksilver mutagen gives +2 acrobatics for 10 minutes.
"Or... how good are you with animals?" He looks at Wolfie.
So this is up to GM decision, but Wolfie has +10 Acrobatics, in theory Mature Wolfie is of size Medium, which allows it to carry beings of size Small: so Phineas. But there is no rules saying how to mounts behave when someone else wants to ride them :| We could make the rider to use: Command an animal, so Nature check vs DC12 (standard Will save for Wolfie +2 Wisdom) to make it balance, when they can use Acrobatics +10.

GM Watery Soup |

"Ok, let us take a step back. Why do you, Audho, speak as you are the crown? How did you get bounded to it? And if the vault was protecting the crown from the might Qxal what is the long therm plan to keep it protected? We can carry you away from this island, but I have no desire to be crushed by this Qxal and his henchmen."
"My spirit was reawakened by the growing threat of Qxal. I am not bound to it by force, but my purpose is to serve the Crown and will follow it until Qxal is destroyed or until Qxal destroys me. The ground here is soaked with the blood of Bhopanese who have unwittingly powered Qxal's rise for decades - the further we go, the more Qxal's influence wanes."
As for avoiding Qxal and their henchmen ... in game, you're going to have to fight your way out anyway, so you might as well bring the crown. Metagame, your Primary Objective is to get the crown off the island, so unless you want to auto-fail the scenario ... :D
So this is up to GM decision, but Wolfie has +10 Acrobatics, in theory Mature Wolfie is of size Medium, which allows it to carry beings of size Small: so Phineas. I am okay with an even more liberal interpretation - they can ride Wolfie and you can (automatically) command it.
---
I'm going to resolve everyone together so it makes more narrative sense, but Phineas succeeded. As with the other skill checks, you'll need a number of successes as a group to pass.

After making it over the pit, Franzine slowly tries to pick her way through the brambles of thorns.
Those multi-eyed bugs were pretty gross. Gurka, Hopper, you two okay? We'll be out of here soon, I hope.
Sheesh. I thought the jungle was bad.
survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!
Hero point that crap.

An interesting question, are the HP damage happening to Hopper or Wolfie? The same with Sickened? I would imagined wolfie as he was stepping through the pit
Hopper checks on the Wolfie saying
"No worry, that poison and soon you will be as good as new." he pats his Wolf on the side of his neck.
Seeing the thorns Hopper observes them for a moment...
Nature to figure out the thorns: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
If no one has any better idea he get on Wolfie and attempts to find a way through the thorns
Survival, Wolfie, Sickened: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (14) + 10 - 1 = 23
If I could do only one of those two I would go with Survival (take a first d20 roll)

That's what I was thinking, although, honestly, I'm fine letting you choose. But the HP damage and sickened go together (you can't apply them to separate targets).
If I could do only one of those two I would go with Survival (take a first d20 roll)
Only 1 check per PC. That will be Survival (3)+10-1 = 12 (13 if Hopper is sickened rather than Wolfie).

Phineas remembers that the thorns will move aside if someone walks right into them!
Franzine tries to pick her way through, but gets more and more entangled the harder she tries.
Hopper is pretty sure Phineas remembers incorrectly, but he can't come up with an alternate solution.
Gurka, confident that Franzine knows what she is doing, follows Franzine and ends up tangled with Franzine.

Sorry for the posting delay - been a hectic few days - thanks for botting me.
I assume we are rushing too much for Oskar to spend 10 minutes each patching up those who were wounded by the poison?
Nature: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 If Forest Lore could be used, Oskar has a +5 instead of a +2 modifier.
The thorny brambles loom particularly large to the diminutive halfling who is used to being able to slip between such obstacles. "These will definitely NOT be in the opera - far too troublesome for set design!"

Arlo looks on at the gnarled, protruding, thorny roots. One thing is certain: he absolutely hates that he has almost no idea what to do about this. Still, he assesses the situation and hopes serendipity will allow a solution to come to him.
