Round 1

Kokam peered around Damon at the cultists, alarmed at the number of polearms being directed at her friend.

Ducking under Damon's arm, she used her spear to vault up and and over the cultist directly infront of Damon, aiming to land to his right.

Acrobatics, Tumble, DC 14: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 Darn!

However, the cultist seemed to be anticipating such an action and blocked Kokam with his polearm, forcing the monk to retreat back behind Damon.

Regaining her balance, she throws a dart at the cultist, trying to help in some way...

Attack, dart: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

... however, all of the furious action by Damon and the cultists caused her throw to somehow miss everyone!

Ah, that explains how the downstairs cultists were all able to break through our line and attempt to escape. Well, we can play that game too now that we know the rules...

Barely able to pull his hand back after opening the door fast enough to avoid a crashing polearm that would have severed his wrist, Damon reacted a bit too slowly. Able to block a few blows, the multitude of attacks overwhelmed him and two sneaked past his defenses, though the brilliant flash of a momentary arcane shield from the silver dragon's scale spared him from one of the strikes.

With Rocsoe's encouragement, Damon was finally able to draw his sword and move defensively into the room, saying, "Right, let's go." Pushing past the cultists and moving off to the west to allow his companions room to maneuver, Damon stood fast to repel all attackers.

Drawing sword and using his action to Dodge (forcing any attacks against him to have disadvantage), Damon moves two squares to the south and one to the west (20 feet movement, going through one enemy square).

"Gah I can't see anything!" Stella complained to no one in particular as she saw Damon seemingly dodging phantom strikes. When she saw Kokam rebuffed and Damon disappear up ahead she asked Hal, "Can you see anything? Or make some room for us at the top?"

Could someone further ahead of Stella be her "eyes" to try and guide an action?

Assuming they were able to move up and in.

Roscoe follows Stella up the stairs to where he can get a look in the room. Not able to get a clean shot with his sling he called down sacred fire on one of the cultists.

Not sure exactly how the map is gonna change. But I assume from near the top of the stairs one of the enemy would be in view. That one is getting burnt hopefully.

Well, Damon tried to tank with a 19 AC and Dodging, and he still got hit twice--the dice can be unkind. I am trying to open up a clear lane for Kokam to tumble to. You could also try that attack roll with advantage just in case you get a crit if you attacked the one Damon flanked with you. I'm not quite following the numbering scheme of the cultists so I don't know if the wounded one (#3) is the one Damon just moved into flank with.

I'm debating between going more healing or more offense. One would let Stella consistently heal the melee folks each round for the fight and still damage a bit while with the other I'd try to restrain as many cultist as possible with entangle before blasting them. Might burn through more spells going full offense.

Tough call. We have found that spending a round with multiple people healing instead of attacking didn't work well against the sorcerer cultist, but if one person can heal multiple people a turn as well as do some minor attacking, that may be a good tradeoff. On the other hand, if your entangle can keep the cultists out of melee range, that would be great--although they may already be too close for that. Up to you, Stella.

DM runs good dynamic encounters, each one is a bit different - in this case entangle is not gonna help. Next one? It could be a game changer

Round #2: Whenever Stella get's a visual on the melee above

Seeing her comrades swarmed by the enemy cultists, Stella's glowing form changed hue slightly as another butterfly managed to wriggle itself free from her frazzled hair. Lightly landing on the Viking's helm for a moment before heading towards the paladin, it eventually landed on Damon's shoulder, giving him a bit of healing energy.

Free Action: Drop Starry Form (Dragon)
Bonus Action: Activate Starry Form (Chalice)
Action: Cast Healing Spirit (on Damon's) space 1d6 ⇒ 4
(Bonus Starry Form (Chalice) Healing (Hal): 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8)

Round #3:

Conjuring the freezing cold of space, Stella fired off another blast of frost at one of the cultists attacking Hallvarðr

Action: Frostbite: DC14 CON Save or it takes 1d6 ⇒ 3 Cold Damage & has disadvantage on it's next weapon attack.
Bonus Action: Healing Spirit (Damon): 1d6 ⇒ 5

(I'm really enjoying the variety of combats we've been in so far.
My thought with entangle was that restrained creatures have disadvantage on attacks/ attacks against them are with advantage which is why I thought it might be a good option to use even if it didn't help us get separation from them.)

Reminder Kokam, Damon, and Hall are blessed.

Roscoe frowns when he sees what's before him. He takes a deep breath. He moves into the roam with acrobatic flair moving past Hall and Damon trying to not interfere with their efforts. He breaks to the left to isolate the one cultist separated from the others.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20

Technically I think I can move through friendly space but I want to give a second target and a bit of acrobatic flourish to avoiding 2 Opportunity attacks. I know in 5e you can't use acrobatics to avoid them (unless you use the optional rule) but I figured this would be a bit of flavor and they might go for the double.

He calls down sacred fire on the cultist and in a flash also utters a prayer for healing mercy for Damon.

Did my scale work last turn? I went from 29 to 8... I don't think it did... if it did? I should have blocked an 11 point hit, in which case I wouldn't need to use my level 2 spell slot... I'm checking earlier logs for it triggering or not

@Roscoe: SILVER DRAGON SCALE
Once per day, the scale will protect its keeper by casting Shield (+5 AC) for one attack only [that would otherwise hit], Absorb Elements (only the protection part; provides resistance to triggering energy) or Feather Fall; this will occur the first time its keeper could "use" its protective power (no choice to save to this power for later).

Ok, I'm going to keep on getting busy and letting Fabian roll for Kokam, he's rolled really well twice!! LOL.

Round 3

Relived that she had been able to join the fray, Kokam took Hallvardr's advice and attacked the cultist beside him, especially since he had targetted her with his polearm; an attack Kokam had easily avoided.

First though, the other nearby cultist had attacked Damon, and left herself open to Kokam's swift spear...

Attack, reaction from Sentinel Feat, two-handed, spear vs cultist
4:
1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (17) + 6 + (2) = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

... her spear point drawing a crimson streak of blood through the air as it struck home and was ripped away!

Spinning around, she allowed the momentum of that successful strike to fuel her attack on the cultist that was assailing her, smiling a snarling smile similar to that on Hallvardr's face, hoping his inspiration would help her.

Attack, spear, two-handed vs cultist , bardic inspiration: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 6 + (3) + (3) = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Attack, open hand, bonus: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (16) + 6 + (1) = 23
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Her already blooded spear drank again from a cultist, a fine spray painting the nearby wall. Bending down to avoid the cultists polearm, Kokam's foot was a blur as it hit the man's side, a groan of pain pulled from his lips as ribs cracked.

@Roscoe: SILVER DRAGON SCALE

Right. So my question is being in a PBP when do I say hey I want to use the scale to up my AC? I don't know I have been hit until the recap at which point I have already taken damage. Is it an automatic interrupt? Is it an action I have to say I want to use. That's where my confusion is.

Roscoe looks about seeing Hall in a precarious spot. Again sends sacred fire on one of the wounded cultists. Then prays for more healing aid for the skald.

It automatically activates whenever Shield, Absorb Elements or Feather Fall would help in an encounter.

Gorum bless you Damon! The Lord in Iron loves battle!

Bon. Action healing word Damon 2nd level: 2d4 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11

Seems Gorum has smiled on Damon

Feeling much invigorated by the feel warmth of Stella's manifestation of earthly power, and slightly giddy from Caydens touch, he senses a change in the tides of war and he laughs out loud, pressing the attack on the sole cultist.

Attacked by new enemies in the doorway, Damon staggered under their assault, but the encouraging words from Hallvardr buoyed his spirits. Seeing the remaining cultists in the main hallway, Damon called, "I will try to hold them here at the door while you take care of the last one out here!"

OOC: With the rules about moving through enemy spaces, I don't think Damon can actually block them.

Given confidence by the bard's healing, Damon faked a fully defensive posture, then slashed out quickly at the neck of the cultist in the doorway!

Radiance Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1d4 ⇒ (14) + 6 + (2) = 22
Radiance Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Landing a solid hit on the foe's left shoulder, Damon held his ground, hoping his friends would be able to take down the cultists still in the hallway.

Kokam stepped lightly over the cultist she'd felled, her eyes on the sole remaining opponent in the hallway.

She couldn't help appreciate the skill with which she handled her polearm, once again regretting that such talent was wasted in the service of the Demon.

Smiling at Hallvardr's boisterousness, her ear ringing slightly from his battle cry, Kokam slid forward and struck!

Spear and kick both penetrated the cultists' defenses, no matter the woman's skill, a bleeding wound on the arm and almost a broken leg the result.

I think ability wise we've got one more fight in us after we wrap this one up. With potions we could maaaaaybe squeeze in another. The way I see it, we'll be down to the wire if there is too much more ahead

I was thinking the same thing. If we can, we should short rest after this next fight. I'm not sure how a long rest would be possible but in a couple fights we'll probably all be out of spells...
