If Kokam has the flank, I'll throw a vicious mockery... is that Kosher? Otherwise I'll attack without the flank... if advantage still applies it's a hit, otherwise it's a miss

@Fabian, is it a straight d20 roll to attempt to reach the Wardstone? Or is there a modifier/ proficiency bonus I should add/ subtract to that as well.

It's an attack roll so you can add your proficiency and your DEX mod.

No, your initiative was lower than the enemy's so you attack after they attack.

Letting the others stream in first, Stella moved North, using her friends like a man-made wall against the twisted woman. When an opportunity presented itself, she arched a mote of starfire over the "wall" towards the woman before continuing on to the glowing stone.

Assuming she can reach it this turn Reaching the pedestal, Stella pulled out the Wardstone destroyer from her sack and whispered, "Desna guide my hand," before reaching her hand through the barbed cage towards their goal. "I can't reach it," Stella shared frustratingly with the others through gritted teeth. I might need your help Kokam...

I'm thinking with Kokam's superior DEX, Bless, and a Guidance (or help action) from Stella, she would have a better chance reaching the Wardstone then Stella would.

Before she could reach the wardstone, Stella's view of the glowing stone became obscured, replaced with the pain she experienced from a column of searing fire! Nearly passing out from the intense pain and heat, she felt her Starstone suddenly radiate a strong magical light that managed to dispel the fire before it took her down!

Would Stella's scale activate with this attack?

Also would Stella be able to use Guidance and try and touch the Wardstone on the same turn? I'm guessing probably not but just want to check before she acts

Yes, Stella's scale would have protected her from 1/2 the damage (flame strike is 1/2 fire and 1/2 radiant).

So, after making her saving throw, Stella only take 8 hit points of damage.

And no, guidance is an action in itself so you can't cast guidance and 'strike' the wardstone at the same time.

I posted earlier, but I'll repost and reclarify, with additions, as it seems the DM is being a good sport and letting me retro a bit (appreciated)

Hallvardr sees his friends charge in, with himself still orientating himself to the combat...

He sees Damon take the brunt of the fire, skin blackening and peeling, and Stella writhe in pain.

In an instant he decides to try to keep Damon up, chanting a prayer to Gorum for assistance, directed at the Paladin, before twisting his words into a Nithing, a cursing of wrath and malice, this time directed at the enemy.

Bonus Action and last spell slot: Word of Healing Damon 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Vicious Mockery Wis DC 13: 1d4 ⇒ 2 psychic damage and disadvantage on next attack with a failed save

He then moves to engage the abysally warped foe.

It took Stella a few moments to find her bearings after surviving the Deskari's attack; at first staring dazedly back at the Wardstone before the sounds of the others fighting snapped her back into focus. Arching another hastily fired mote of starfire at the women, Stella moved towards the glowing stone as she pulled the magical item from her sack. "Hope this thing still works..." she mumbled to herself as she reached her hands into the cage and in an attempt to touch the Wardstone. Coming up short, she called out to the others through gritted teeth, "I...can't reach it!"

Kokam steps back from the burst of flame, but some blisters still rose up on her arms from the heat.

Her eyebrows rose as Roscoe's magic seemed to take something away from the cultist. For a moment, Kokam was conflicted between helping Stella with the wardstone, or taking down it's guardian.

Mind made up, she attacks the cultist with renewed vigor...

Barely holding on, Damon regained some strength as Hallvardr's healing magic took hold, then concentrated on striking the evil cultist as hard as he could with another powerful slash at her neck!

Actions 1:

Whether by divine dictate or personal prowess, Damon's blade struck true and clove the evil cultist's head from her shoulders. Leaving the blade stuck in her left shoulder, Damon reached up and used all his strength to pull one of the bars of the cage blocking Stella away from the Wardstone fragment, saying, "This is it, Stella. You can do it!"

Actions 2:

For an instant when the Wardstone shattered, Damon was afraid, as there was no way he could withstand the destruction of this powerful artifact. Yet the pure holiness radiating out from the explosion immediately set him at peace with his immanent demise, and he only had a moment to feel satisfied at accomplishing his mission when the blast hit him, throwing his consciousness somewhere far, far away.

Demons, demons everywhere, shattering at the touch of the wardstone shard--at all the wardstones! "Is this how the gods experince events, detached and all-seeing," wondered Damon as he was hit by wave after wave of these visions, finally settling on the evil cultist leader's visage of frustration, somewhere deep in a dark and evil land.

When he finally recovered his senses, Damon was shocked to still be alive--even more so to be unhurt, and he numbly picked up Radiance from the disintegrated body of the evil cultist, wiped it clean, and sheathed it with a mechanical precision, his mind still someplace far away, trying to process this cataclysmic event.

Kokam was satisfied with that fate, but then the energy hit her....and coursed through her! Her limbs flown akimbo by the energy rushing into her, Kokam could do nothing as the visions flew through her mind...the wardstones erupting with energy, destroying the demon invasion...the relief on the faces of those mustered to face those same hordes...the rage and frustration on the face of the Witch Areelu Vorlesh...

Falling to her knees, the surge of power having spent its energies, Kokam looked about to her friends, glad to see them still whole, asking "What just happened ? "

The flood of holy energy drove Hallvardr to his knees, with uncharacteristic tears rolling down his his cheeks into his beard... he felt peace, love, joy and hope. Such feelings had become nearly alien to him over the last year as he had grown towards ever tightening spiritual bindings to Gorum.

We... are victorious. Gods be praised!, he croaked.

Visions overcame all thoughts, leaving his mind reeling. Ward stones flaring and blowing enemies back to the abyss... then going dark and still... foes screeching in frustration and hate... and an awareness of a powerful enemy not yet met yet who needed to be vanquished.

Action #1

"Blast...this infernal...CAGE! Stella shouted in frustration as her arm refused to stretch any further, the barbs of the cage digging into her arm painfully. I think Kokam is the only one tall and nimble enough to reach through here, she thought to herself as she saw the monk still occupied with the demon women. Not sure how much longer her friends would be able to hold her off, Stella decided to get creative. Throwing her sack to the ground, she knelt and began furiously emptying it for anything that she could use to help her. Stopping when she found a loose ball of twine, she took her staff and quickly attached the Rod of Cancellation to the end of it, creating a makeshift magical spear. As she rose, she noted to her joy, and just ever so slightly to her chagrin, that the battle was over and Damon had managed to widen the gap enough that her "spear" was no longer needed. "You could've told me you were about finish her off before I started making this!" she jested to the others, a weight seemingly sliding off of her shoulders with their goal achievable and in sight. Then taking a deep breath, she nodded to the others and herself before delicately sticking the shaft forward and touching the rod with the Wardstone shard. For the longest of moments, nothing seemed to happen. Then she felt a slight vibration from the Wardstone before a burst of the brightest light she had ever experienced blinded her. It took her another moment to realize that she was flying through the air.

Action #2
Blinking away her blindness, Stella awoke to find herself soaring blazingly fast through the air, a pair of glowing wings attached to her back. Below her, an incredible scene was unfolding: A massive demon force charging away from the Wardstones as a radiant pulse of light sprinted its way from Wardstone to Wardstone, incinerating any evil creature in its path. Seemingly following along the path for a time, she was eventually tugged to her right towards the heart of the Worldwound. Flying across the scarred land at a speed too fast to digest, she stopped in front of an odd women with a frustrated yet determined look on her face; a whisper at the back of her mind telling her that it was none other than their enemy: the Witch Areelu Vorlesh. Before she could glean any other information, the blinding light returned; surprisingly heavy, it swirled around her fiercely as her vision began to cloud and she felt her head hit something solid...

Blinking her eyes into focus once again, it wasn't immediately clear what she had just experienced, only realizing after seeing the looks on her friends faces that they had probably all shared some sort of shared vision. How did I get so far away from the alter? And why does my body not hurt anymore Stella thought to herself dazedly as she slowly rose to her feet and awkwardly gathered her spilled items and belongings. She tried to remember more of what happened immediately before and after the encountering the twisted priestess but could feel parts of those memories already beginning to fade from mind.Where is her body? And where is the wardstone? she then asked herself as she surveyed the room rather confusedly. As she did so, Stella, vaguely hearing the others mention leaving this place (and sounding to her as if they were much further than they actually were), nodded slightly in acknowledgement, unable to muster much more than that for the moment.

@Roscoe, what are you giving Stella?

The way I read it, the wardstone itself exploded, not just the cage around it. Worth doing some searching around, though. Also, we should probably make sure the place is free of prisoners or more intel before we leave the building—especially since we are all freshly renewed.

Male Half-Elven Paladin 5 | AC 20 | 44 HP | Str: +3, Dex: +0, Con: +2, Int: +0, Wis:+3, Cha: +7 | Initiative +0, Perception +3, Stealth +0 (Disadvantage)

Actions 1:

As realization dawned on him of the history of this wardstone, Damon shuddered to think of the long-term planning and cunning it took to damage the artifact over time, finally culminating in this horrific plan to enslave the crusaders! Almost crying at the disaster that might have befallen had they failed, Damon truly wept when he realized they had not only averted the tragedy, but turned Vorlesh's scheme back upon her and decimated the demons!

Actions 2:

His tears drying on his face, Damon realized too late that they were in danger, belatedly drawing his blade as he struggled to breathe! The residual power of the Wardstone protected them, though, and empowered them even as demons streamed through the rift--and then it slammed shut, with *only* five demons on their side.

Thinking quickly, Damon called, "Quickly! Back through the door so we can use it as a chokepoint! Following his own instructions, he ran to the door and stopped just before going through. Hoping to forestall the approach of at least some of the demons , Damon called upon Iomedae's holy power and Channeled Divinity to Turn the Unholy, the power flaring from the holy emblem on his shield and bathing the whole room in a faint echo of the Wardstone's splendor! He then stepped through the door and prepared to protect the others, assuming they would come out the door as well so they wouldn't be surrounded.

Turn the Unholy:

Turn the Unholy - As an action, you can censure fiends and undead. Each fiend or undead that can see or hear you within 30 ft. must make a WIS saving throw (DC 14). On failure, it is turned for 1 minute or until it takes damage. Note: DC is 17 due to the Wardstone effect.

Action #1
Flying again... Stella thought absentmindedly as she floated above the Kenabres Wardstone, still overwhelmed by her previous vision moments earlier. A pulse of energy shocking her into attention, she watched with fascination as the history of the magical item flowed around her. Then tugged again in a different direction she flew high in the air and watched with horror at the atrocity that was narrowly avoided... by them! Finally understanding Desna's reason for choosing her, a sense of joy, relief and pride washed over her as the heavy blinding light swirled around her once again.

Action #2
"We'll stop yo..." was all Stella was able to get out before Areelu's phantom grasp closed around her neck threatening to end them so quickly after their triumphant moment! Almost simultaneously, as a portal to the abyss opened up right in of her spelling certain doom, a small glow surrounded Stella and guarded her from the worst of the witch's threat; rapidly expanding to shatter the rift and repulse Areelu's advance.

Is this...the Wardstone's doing...? she thought to herself in amazement before realizing that the immediate threat wasn't completely handled. Hearing Damon's plan, she rushed to the Antechamber as she called on Desna's power to assist her once again!

If her held action is activated
Eyes closed, concentrating on the light of the moon and the gifts it granted, Stella lifted her glowing hand in the direction of the charging fiends and conjured a miniaturized version of the moon above them. Compressed and focused in a small area, she hoped the light would sear any fiend foolish enough to enter it's light!

Action: Hold Action (If any of the enemies are not turned and charge toward the party, Stella will cast Moonbeam in front of the chokepoint (in a spot that doesn't hit any party members). If all of them are turned, she'll try to hit as many as possible. DC17 CON Save or take 3d10 ⇒ (7, 8, 6) = 21) Radiant Damage (Wardstone upgrades included)
Bonus Action: Activate Starry Form (Dragon)
Move: Behind Damon back into the antechamber

Initiative is important here... does my potential action go off before or after Damon's rebuking? I want to vicious mock the one threatening Stella so even if it passes it's turn save it attacks her at disadvantage but if I hit it after the rebuking it's free to act, less than ideal.

A sliver of destiny pierced his thoughts as events past and present, and both on this plane and the depths of the abyss itself rolled through his consciousness! The demons had come so close to success, so close in the step that would have been the one that heralded the doom of this world, for what in Golarion could stand against a demon incursion if the very armies of Mendev led its vanguard? Sooo close!

Then, again he felt the hand of fate rest on his shoulder. He would need to defend this world against these scions of evil, and secure his friends lives. It was becoming clear that his friends had a role to play in rebuking this most dire future... a future that needed him to protect them against these malignant manifestations of evil that had been pushed into this room.

OOC: please assume your preferred outcome with regards to actions/reactions from allies and enemies.

Go ahead and posts your actions (with associated rolls) and give me some sort of alternative if things don't go your way.

I don't want to roll dice as players post actions because it just takes too long and we won't get a full round every day.

Questions?

Like a reflex action, the Skald growled out a cursing against the demon closest to Stella

DC16 Wis save or disadvantage on attack and take psychic damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2 (3 pts)

He moves back to the door and through it to the side, allowing others to exit but setting up the defensive position. He had to blink back black spots in his vision as the room flared into light with Damon's invocation of Iomedaen power.

Kokam! Your God watches you!!! Strike and know that her will rides on your blows!

Bardic Inspiration to Kokam as Bonus Action...

Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll the die and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. Once the Bardic Inspiration die is rolled, it is lost. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.

A creature that has a Bardic Inspiration die from you can roll that die and add the number rolled to a weapon damage roll it just made. *Alternatively, when an attack roll is made against the creature, it can use its reaction to roll the Bardic Inspiration die and add the number rolled to its AC against that attack, after seeing the roll but before knowing whether it hits or misses. *

Action 1

Kokam's question hung in the air as she and her friend were taken up once again with the Wardstone's powerful magic.

Seeing the story of the Wardstone unfurl before her eyes, Kokam could only wonder at what happenstance could have placed her in such an important moment in time and space.

Then she cursed inwardly as the Demon Witch's plan was laid bare, and then elation as she saw how completely she and her friends had turned that plan back on the Demon!

She noted the face of Stauton and Minagho....and Areelu. If ever they should meet, she did not want to not recognize them!

Confronted with the shade of the Witch, Kokam gasped as her throat was squeezed...but the Wardstone again protected them.

Dropping to the floor, Kokam could only glare as Areelu's seeming disappeared and the demons that had managed to make it through her rift assailed them.

Action 2
Kokam nodded at Damon's suggested tactics, and ran with him back to the door, spear held ready...

If she makes back to the door safely, she'll lash out at any demon coming close, spending 1 ki for extra bonus attack

Attack, spear, two-handed, bardic insp: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 5 + (5) = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 5 + (1) = 16

Attack, open-hand, bonus, bardic insp: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 5 + (4) = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 5 + (2) = 14

Attack, open-hand, bonus, bardic insp: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 5 + (3) = 32
Damage: 1d4 + 4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 5 + (5) = 15

if she's cornered out in the room, spend 1 ki to take Dodge action as a bonus action and then hustle to the door...Ha, for some reason thought you gave the inspriation to Damon!

Roscoe was awed to serious silence. A state rare for the irreverent follower of Cayden. But the power and holy energy that dwarfed imagining was beyond his will to speak of. Would his own folly be felt to unholy for this moment and he be consumed like the monstrous host.

As the rift closed and the ringing in his eyes and the haze within his ears the realization that not all demons were destroyed. Not all demons were left in the abyss. Some stood among them.

Roscoe was backing for the door before the direction to use it as a choke point was even made.

Roscoe called down holy fire over the demon close to Stella to keep it from her.
