About Damon Grimm

Appearance:
Damon is a tall half-elven male with a swarthy complexion, dark brown hair, and dark brown eyes. His square-jawed face is typically set in a serious expression, but when he smiles his face lights up and a glimpse of his tender side is shines through. With an unusually sturdy build for a half elf, Damon walks with the practiced ease of a warrior. He wears sturdy traveling clothes in soft earth tones, and his serviceable chain armor has a dull brushed finish matching his heavy shield. He wears a simple longsword at his hip and strapped across his back over a thick woolen cloak is a brace of javelins. He also wears a weathered backpack under his cloak, and fortunate is the one who has seen him pull his lyre out of the pack and grace the night air with a simple but beautiful tune.

Background:
Growing up in a minor noble family in rural Mendev, Damon Grimm led a pastoral life as the fourth son--required to learn the ways of the nobility with no expectation of ruling.

That all changed when a dark stranger came to visit--laying claim to their lands as true heir! The stranger was instantly thrown out for his insolence. That night, however, nameless creatures rose from some unknown pit and assaulted the family estate, following the dark lord in burning the family's house and lands, killing or driving everyone into the night! Damon was backed into a corner by the demonic horde--only to be rescued by a powerful Iomedaen Knight, who had been tracking the foul creature.

Although most of his family survived thanks to the timely divine aid, the dark lord escaped. Damon felt it was his duty to protect his family from further harm, so he swore an oath to Iomedae to rid the land of the scourge of fiends, joined the Order of the Sunrise Sword and rode off to directly confront the terror of the Worldwound. Little does he know the evidence for the hidden truth in the dark lord's words is written in the taint of his own blood.

Personality:
Damon's approach to most situations is fairly straightforward. He takes his oath to Iomedae and the Order of the Sunrise Sword seriously, to "wage war against the spawn of the pit and annihilate any who serve them" (his bond). He is courageous and kind, and he sees it as his duty to protect those who cannot protect themselves from the demon hordes and any other threats (personality traits & ideals). In unguarded moments, he is wistful, and even seems to long for the simpler time reflected in tunes he plays on a well-loved lyre. Yet there is an undercurrent of danger, of something otherworldly about him that is more than just the elven blood in his heritage. Though the fire of his faith burns bright, there is sometimes a shadow that lurks around the edges of the blaze.

Save Contingency:

If Damon has Inspiration available and is subjected to an effect that would benefit from a save that would take him below 1 hp, is a death effect, or would force him to attack his friends, he will use the inspiration in an attempt to make the save.

DM's Eyes Only:

The "Exposed to Awfulness" and Damon's flaw (hidden secret) are intertwined together. The traumatic experience in his background that exposed him to the nameless demon occured because that evil being did actually have a claim to the family lands. His elven mother found his human father intriguing because, well, he was not entirely mortal. Damon's bloodline is mostly human and elven, but there is a dark taint to his blood that cannot be denied. If it became public knowledge, it would ruin his family, but for now, not even Damon himself is aware of his true heritage.
