About Stella Destino
Appearance:
Stella is a human woman of slightly above average height. She has a pale (seemingly luminescent) complexion with sharp dark blue/ purple eyes and long hair to her waist a deep, dark blue/black of midnight. Her gentle & friendly face is most often affixed with a smile though it can rapidly change to one of fierceness or anger when prompted. Slender, light on her feet and graceful, she seems to flit & float as if her movements are propelled by the wind itself. She wears a mix of simple leather armor and sturdy boots on top of brightly colored traveler’s cloth oftentimes in the purples & blues typical of those who worship the Goddess Desna. She carries a short wooden walking stick from which hang little handmade trinkets of stars & butterflies in Desna’s honor. She carries a round wooden shield on her back (which doubles as a pillow when sleeping in the wild) as well as a weather-worn satchel filled with miscellaneous nick-knacks & items from her travels. Around her wrists are various colored bangles and a small star stone pierced through by a chain is worn around her neck.
Personality:
Most people who meet Stella for more than a moment would describe her as whimsical. A free spirit almost always in a jovial mood, she seemingly floats carefree from one conversation and town to the next in easy contentment, fully accepting of whatever life may throw her way. The carefree easiness with which she lives her life lead many to believe that she is rather “simple-mind”. In actuality though, she is both unusually wise beyond her years and very perceptive of both the people around her and her surroundings, usually chiming with a thoughtful comment others would never have thought of. She is fervently protective of people’s right to freedoms and to freely express themselves – in a kindly manner of course – and will chafe against anyone who tries and restrict or restrain her. Honest, blunt and passionate about her beliefs, she will act as her heart commands fearless and oftentimes regardless of the consequences if she feels that her actions are just or right.
Taking inspiration from the ideals of the Goddess Desna, of which she is a fervent worshipper & admirer, Stella lives a life of freedom on the road traveling and exploring Golorian and all the wonders it has to offer – from the energy only found in cities to the wildlife & the endless skies and stars of the wilderness. She will oftentimes reach out to Desna for guidance to try and determine what the potential outcomes to important decisions might be and will oftentimes dedicate seemingly random acts & items in her honor.
History:
There have only been two constants in Stella’s life: The Stars and Travelling. Since she can remember, her parents would shuffle her from one country to the next in Avistan – from Talbor to the countries surrounding Lake Encarthan and back again – meandering through the small towns and holdfasts and singing the praises of the Goddess Desna, the Song Sphere and Lady of the Stars. Technically born in Nidal where her parents were forced into indentured servitude, they were saved by priests of the Goddess shortly after she was born and converted into zealot followers of her faith; deciding to travel the world to honor her.
Because her childhood was spent largely with her parents, she never had any friends to speak of and would oftentimes spend days on her own while her parents preached to any who would listen. During these times, lonely, she would spend her days walking through the nearby woods interacting with the various plants & animals; at night she would stare at the stars for hours, the only things in the world that she could rely on to be there for her every day. Then she started having dreams; at first vague and cloudy but awakening every morning feeling unusually peaceful. Eventually the dreams became more vivid and daily occurrences; usually with her floating through the cosmos surrounded by butterflies with wings full of stars. Eventually Stella discovered that the she had “the gift” and somehow had a direct link with the Goddess herself, if only a part of her; and at that moment decided to dedicate herself to Desna and all of the wonders of the world.
When she became of age, she decided to begin travelling on her own, to perform minor ceremonies around Avistan and to discover everything the world had to offer with her own eyes and with the Goddess watching over her. One night, as she looked up at the stars, she saw a strange sight. At first she thought that she was making a mistake; it seemed like the stars were speaking to her, speaking of danger. Then her dreams, normally splendid and joyful, become confused and foggy again like they had been when she was a child and leaving her a sense of dread. Finally, she decided to ask the stars (and her Goddess) what she was seeing. And when she surprisingly received a reply, the stars weren’t speaking to her this time; they were screaming.
