G'day, everyone.
RL's been kicking me in the pants of late. On top of that, I've been struggling to nail down how I want Rar'gul to approach this next part of the adventure. This all amounts to the reason for my lack of posting.
I have a seedling of an idea for him, hopefully I'm able to give it some water and, with a little sunshine, a post will soon sprout.
Supersuperlative
My thoughts are the same - forge the documents or some way hack the system to have the necessary forms and documents already sighted and processed. Or find someone who can do it for us.
Although Rar'gul's home on Nchak is close by (at least, in relative terms), with the misinformation on us out, I'm thinking there may be unwelcome eyes and/or ears there. Unless there is/are some religious entities/institutions to be found locally he could call upon?
In terms of Rar'gul's personal contribution, beyond the physical attributes, he has some traing in Culture, Diplomacy, Intimidate and Mysticism.
Cidribvoot
Is Cidribvoot still technically employed by Pike's Perytons? If so, he should have the starship registration, etc. needed for the permits. Also maybe there are forms on the starship that could prove temporary employment for the others...like they're independent contractors for a special project. Maybe on the ship we can do some hacking to forge the appropriate files.
Cidribvoot
Okay, let's go back to the ship and try some hacking/forging employment forms.
Or perhaps there is a courier service we can join temporarily to make a delivery to Roselight? Maybe there's an infosphere site that matches couriers with people needing deliveries?

The school solution seems to be to get into good graces of one of those corporates. I'm surprised Abadarcorp isn't represented. I wonder what John these of these other enterprises.

Gen Con was a blast -- and also filled with surprises. Among them, I received a campaign coin!! Talk about a total shock.
A friend shot some video of the presentation. I look like I'm saying "whuttttt?" the whole time I walked from the back of the ballroom to the front so I could shake Alex's hand.
Honestly, I'm still in a bit of disbelief even though I'm sitting here staring at my coin.
So yeah, Gen Con went well! hehehehehehe
I'm looking forward to diving back into our team's story even though Lilly (and I) don't know what to make of it all...

I am so, so sorry I disappeared for a month. Family drama came to town in early August and Covid (which I avoided) — I felt too drained to be creative. I’m going to do better. The drama is mostly gone for now.
Thank you for your patience!

Hey everybody! Hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. I was in charge of the turkey and gravy! Both turned out excellent this year.
More to come as far as Starfinder in this group later. You're all a bunch of great guys, and I have missed posting here. Let's see if we can figure out a plan to move forward.
Cidribvoot
I hope this game continues soon. I must warn you all that my posting is now very erratic since I'm helping a family member deal with a health crisis. The situation is stable, but it takes up the majority of my time now.
Thanksgiving was about as good as it could be considering the circumstances. I'm glad to read you and therealthom had a good Thanksgiving.

Just a few thoughts about kicking this group back into gear. Consider this stream-of-consciousness, and not necessarily anything that NEEDS to happen within this group.
As I noted in my last post, there's certainly room in my life for an online game. While I have concerns with the time I have to put in, I think there are ways forward.
First, I think this is a group of people that I very much enjoy. Cidribvoot, though you are the newest, you're included in that. The rest of us have been at this for several years now! I'll have to look and see when we started after I'm done writing.
I have to wonder if I would be a better online player than GM. No, I'm not giving up! I do think it's possible that I would remain a little more inspired if GM duties were shared and I could spend a certain amount of time playing.
What do we play? Do we try to soldier on with the current campaign? Let's be honest: it's very convoluted and there are lots of details to keep track of. Who's an imposter? Are the grays the only bad guys, or who else is involved? Have you fully dealt with the shape-changing lizardmen, or are they still players in all of this? Does this amount of complexity lend itself well to a casual online game? I wonder if a more episodic game where a storyline ends every few months wouldn't work better for us.
Finally, I think the last major question would be whether we shift to 2nd edition Starfinder. My feeling: 2nd edition is a superior game. I love having three actions, as that third action allows characters who were pigeon-holed into repeating the same actions every turn to try a wider variety of things.
So...do we start fresh? Does anyone else here have a desire to share in the GMing duties?
Cidribvoot
Thank you for including me! I like this group. Remember I started as Yoromishtali, vesk soldier icon, making martial art videos on Absalom Station. I think that was in 2020.
From my perspective, we should start new characters with Starfinder Second Edition. I don't own the core book yet (hopefully Christmas), but Nethys has the rules.
As for the adventure, I think a series of short missions is the way to go, which I think is how the group/game started with Absalom Station focused scenarios. Nothing elaborate...like provide security for a dignitary from point A to point B; or sabotage the sound system at a nightclub. The location doesn't matter: Absalom Station, a starship, asteroids, any planet. Short, episodic scenarios is my preference. If the group would like to do a new AP, I'd be happy with that too.
I would love to help be a co-GM, but that is not realistic, even in the slow-pace of pbp, given my dad's health situation.
I await the group's consensus.
Happy holidays!!

GMQ, it's great news to hear you have space for an online game. I totally understand the concern about the time, energy and effort required to GM and respect your decision whichever way you go.
I'm enjoying the current campaign and would really love to get some answers to those questions! I'd hate to let it all go but understand that I'm not the one running it. I don't know how far there is to still go in the current book, but what are the chances of trying to wrap this book and then putting a pin in it and explorong some of those other options for a while and revisiting the campaign again later? Perhaps even with a different GM and you could be a freshly introduced character?
I enjoy the group and I coukd see episodic adventures working fine for me. I've just started dipping my toes in to the SFS 2E pool and have enjoyed it so far.
I don't have a lot of experience doing so, but would be willing to give some GMing a go down the line.

Hey GMQ,
First, you're a great GM, a really good guy, and I'd be happy to play in anything you want to run. I'd even buy a new rulebook.Second I love this game and all the players. It's been huge fun. I'd love to keep the group together.
It is hard to hold all the various long-running threads together in PbP. I've found that's especially so as a GM. I definitely understand GM burnout and have been through a major episode of it once and minor episodes a few times over my years on these boards. If you think shorter adventures would help, if you think dropping this campaign would help, I am right behind you.
That said, I like to finish this module. It's got my paranoia rising. I'm dying to know about our mysterious watcher.
Unfortunately, I can't commit to helping with DMing at this time. I have commitments to two long-running games that absorb my capacity. If that changes, and it might because those groups are also facing the 2E question, I'd be delighted to pitch in here. DMing is easier and more enjoyable with a good group of players.
Also I PM'd you last week.

I'm still around too. Great to see you GM Q!
I haven't looked much at Starfinder 2e (SF2e?), but I mainly play Pathfinder 2e, so it shouldn't be too hard to transition over if that's what we want to do. This is my only Starfinder game, but I'm willing to stay with the group.
It would be nice to get a bit of closure on the mystery even if we're not continuing with the AP, but I know that's asking for some (potentially a lot) of work.
GM Quirk
Hi all!
I would love to give some closure here. What I can tell you is that this campaign is VERY convoluted, especially in these later books. This AP lends itself well to a GM who can give each PC some individual attention, especially as far as their background and past go.
It also requires a GM who can know the material forward and backward, always being able to connect the dots on this complex plot. I can do a little of this, but keeping up with everything really proved to be my downfall for this particular adventure, especially as we ended the last book and moved forward with this current book.
I don't want to spill too many beans just yet, but I bet you've figured that there are multiple factions involved in this whole thing, notably the greys and the reptoids. There's actually one more as well (and some minor players).
SO...moving forward...I have sold or given many of my SF1E books to good homes. I don't think it would be good to try to keep up with an older edition of the game when I am also playing more current editions of the game.
Please see my next post for an idea for moving forward.

I think I have to keep certain things simple as I contemplate a different, SF2E online PBP game.
Goals for a good game:
1. A location that begins small. A single neighborhood on Absalom Station? A smaller space station? OR...a small mining town on the planet Akiton populated mainly by Hylki humans and ysoki.
I'd like to run the latter. Read on...
2. Recurring NPC's, including helpful friends, some enemies, and some who you're not sure about.
In our case above, you'll start off knowing both the town manager and the local tavern owner. You'll also know for a fact that there are bandits between you and the next town--they're bad news. There's also the Water Dealer (yes, that's their name) over in Khefak Depot (the big town about 20 miles to the northeast). He's definitely someone who you worry about, but is often a good business partner.
3. Shorter, episodic adventures. I just can't do a huge campaign with lots of interconnected plotlines. We'll have to rely on our cadre of NPC's to be the "glue" between adventures.
Continuing with our example, there could be a number of possible adventures within your town, the mines, the bigger city of Khefak Depot, and the lands around. Perhaps I would start with a simple exercise within the mines--an infestation of khefaks. We could practice the new exploration activities and you could get the measure of your new SF2E characters. Of course it would get a little more complex from there on out. We could even do some "sandboxy" play where you drive some of the adventures.
GM Quirk
SO...I have three rules, listed above.
Moving forward, I need a couple of things.
First, 4-5 players with an Akitonian SF2E character who can post about 5 times a week.
Second, a new slide deck. Luckily, I have saved just about everything I've ever worked on. I already have several maps that can be copied to a new slide deck. I'll have a link tomorrow.
I'll be ready to run in week, maybe two if we need to recruit one or two more players.
---------------------------
I can also make a few more posts to tie together our old Threefold Conspiracy adventure. I would like all of you to know more as this comes to a close. I don't want to take the time to write a book, but I would like to hit some high points so past events make sense and you can look into a crystal ball to see what the future may have brought.

A third faction makes sense. The Original Threefold Conspiracy title would take on additional meaning.

I love Mars. I mean Akiton. Aside from Gath, one of my oldest SFS PCs is a ysoki named Ears who's from the red planet.

Maybe I'll make a red martian , I mean Hylki. Got to check the rule books. Might take me a week or two to pull a character together in a new system.
I do hope everyone is in.
FYI, GMQ, this campaign had dropped off my Campaigns page. I might have hidden it accidentally, but I'm not sure if something systemic didn't do it for me. We might have to PM people and tell them to check in here. I volunteer to do the PMing if you wish.
