Well, this is all going to $#!+ thought Artur as he watched the battle change...and not in their favor.

In short, they were about to be overrun.

"Briar, get your ass back here. Zdravko, move to cover her with darkness!" Artur shouted to the distant pair.

"Nyd, if you can, harm as many of the group that escaped from your cloud as possible."

"Tharivol, get Veratash back up please. When he gets up, tell him to use whatever ranged damaging abilities he has to cover Zdravko and Briar as they retreat."

Artur then backed up moving 5' straight north and put a blast of fire at point blank range into the Dolgrim next to him. ya, he's moving into the circle's protection.

Firebolt Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage Roll: 2d10 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11

OOC: Yeah, I don't see why not. You've stepped out of the darkness circle a couple of times already. You know that that dolgaunt is somewhere to your southwest.

The goblin's ears perked at the strange sound of the dolgaunt's footsteps, it was a hobgoblin's gait, like her masters...but surrounded by the patter of 13 twisted tentacles like the soft pads of a canine. She couldn't let anger at the corrupted flesh spoil her center...she needed mind and body to be one...she emerged to face the dolgaunt, to see the steaming field of stink just beyond...she rushed the beast, attempting to push it into the arcane chemicals...

Shove: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
Shove, Extra Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Shove, Inspiration: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11

...before retreating to darkness. She called back "Gatekeeper! Our true foe lies to the east west...you must trust me. Follow my voice through the darkness and engage our enemy!"

Disengage, shove, shove, move to dark. Even though its three rolls, the dolgaunt should just make 2 saves...one at 4 and the other 11... XD Hoping Briar disengages and crosses through the darkness to the dolgaunt.

I'd move the darkness, but it was cast on a knuckle and dropped in the grass. Probably hard/impossible to find.

edited for correct direction

Psst! Psst! Gatekeeper! He means WEST. Trust me! :)

Ignoring the pinpricks of pain that nagged at her, Briar barely heard her name and title called as she dodged and weaved through the manic throng.

She retained enough awareness to enough to trigger a deeper shift in her physique, ridged bone armor plates rose to the surface of her skin and hardened.
Bonus action to shift: +1 AC and plus: 1d6 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 temp hp

She attempted to finish the wounded dolgrim in front of her, giving up all defence and trusting to her body's defences to see her through.

Reckless attack

glaive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
advantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

glaive extra attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
advantage: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23

slashing: 1d10 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 2 = 8 and acid: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

With a heavy effort she swung her glaive in a massive circle to drive the dolgrim back, and then moved as Zdravko had called, throwing herself in to the darkness as directed.

Moving WEST like all good Gatekeepers would ;p

2/3 rages, 5 rounds of rage remain, 0/1 shifts, 9 rounds of shift remain

Veratash woke up with his body aching. He saw Tharivol saying something to him in slow motion. It was either "stay down" or "you fool", he couldn't tell. "Thanks", he blurted out. He realized the battle was still raging, so he focused on a wounded dolgrim nearby and on the dolgaunt, shooting a blue beam at both.

Move - Get up. Action - Cast twinned Ray of Frost at dolgaunt and hurt dolgrim (10 if 15 was killed by Briar)

Attack dolgaunt: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
dmg: 2d8 ⇒ (2, 8) = 10
crit extra dmg: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 7) = 14
Attack hurt dolgrim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
dmg: 2d8 ⇒ (2, 7) = 9

The ray strikes the dolgaunt with a strong force, making it reel. It also hit the dolgrim, yet no so strongly. Both creatures feel their legs harder to move. After that, he projected his body to the cover of the skeletons and dropped down, without seeing if his attacks hit their targets. He threw himself to the ground to avoid extra attacks, seeing the others were doing that before.

Cast Misty step behind the skellies and free action to drop down

OOC: just curious, which do you do first? look at the rolls or read the turn recap?

Wizard lvl 5 [HP 32/32| AC12 | Saves +1 +1 +2 +7 +4 -1 | Per +4 ] Wizard 5

If you mean your rolls, I tend to look at them to see if I need to make Constitution saves, then read the recap to see what happened.
Oh, and note that I am not blurred anymore.

Nyd doesn't acknowledge Artur's battlefield command, but the formula he barks seems louder and fiercer than the ones he has done before.

Six glowing arrows of force appear, each streaking towards the scattered Dolgrim.

Magic Missle, lvl 3:

MM at Dolgrim 2: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
MM at Dolgrim 2: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
MM at Dolgrim 3: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
MM at Dolgrim 3: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
MM at Dolgrim 4: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
MM at Dolgrim 4: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

That's last level 3 slot. Unfortunately, Magic Missile is my most reliable attack spell.

M Sorcerer lvl 5 [AC13 | Saves -1 0 +5 0 +3 +7 | Per +3]

Varies. I want to see if they resist my spells. But I read to see who was hit from the text.

Female Shifter Barbarian 5 | AC: 17; Init: +2; Perc: +4 (Passive 14) Darkvision

Good question, I look at my rolls versus the foe’s AC with a view to helping describe the action, but aside from that I pay no attention to any other rolls, relying completely on the recaps and just paying attention to any of your OOC prompts for action!

I'll give Tharivol a couple of more hours but I intend to recap later today.

Any questions on the magic items?

If you have access to old Eberron books, there are magic items in just about all of them but a couple of books stand out. The Main setting book, Magic of Eberron, and Explorer's Handbook have setting-specific magic items with excellent fluff. Of course, it's 3.5 so the mechanics will need to be changed but they could serve as inspiration.

Just saying that this dolgaunt may drop something...

I read the game summary and then look at the rolls. Tharivol will going for at least an Instrument of the Bards. Need more reviewing.

With the kalashtar mobile again, Tharivol stood up and repositioned behind the cover with a line of sight on a wounded Dolgrim. He pulled another arrow to his pointed ear and loosed.
Stand up - half move. Move 15 ft behind cover

longbow vs wounded dolgrim: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
if hit, magical piercing damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

The fletching peeled off sending the arrow sideways. He dropped behind the cover for safety of missile fire.

Artur and Vertash:
the creature can roll 1d8 and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails.

I have a few ideas, but I want to see how the Artificer shakes out mechanically in Rising of the Last War before I post something.

Move to get up, cast slow on the dolgrim cluster to the west (# 2 3 4 11 12) and free action to drop back behind cover.

The dolgrim begin to feel the world move faster as if they can't keep up.

Artur felt a bit of hope when the Dolgrim dropped from his attack, but he knew he couldn't give up. He decided that the melee to the south of his position would hold, but the attackers to the west of the circle needed to be dealt with, as they had more or less free reign.

Swapping magazines in his pistol as he went, Artur move directly next to one of the Dolgrims in the group and pulled the trigger. A massive wave of sound erupted, slamming into four of the enemies in the nearby group.

moving to the square directly to the right of #4 and then using Thunderwave, which drops a 15' cube originating from me. That will let me target 3, 4, 11, 12. Here's the damage (with a DC 15 Con Save for half damage and to not be pushed 10' away from me):

2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
4: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
5: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14

Despite the many blows Nyd suffered under the barrage of the Dolgim, he manages to maintain the concentration needed to keep his barrier of chocking gas going. If Nyd breathed the way most creatures do, he would have been left gasping.

Noting the formation of enemy units to the wet, Nyd decides to risk one of his more challenging spells. Even as he makes the arcane gestures necessary, Nyd says quietly as if to himself "Let the go better than the last time."

What Nyd casts depends on whether or not I am seeing things right. I cannot completely tell if only 12 and 11 are adjacent, or if 12, 11, and 3 are.

If just 11+12:
Nyd's gesture summons forth a blob of green liquid, which splashes out at the two adjacent enemies.
Acid Splash on 11: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 DC15 Constitution save to negate.
Acid Splash on 12: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9 DC15 Constitution save to negate.

If three are more are adjacent:
At Nyd's gesture water gathers in the air in the form of knife which streaks forth to strike the center Dolgim.

As she struggled in the grasp of the aberrant tentacles, her throat squeaked one last breath before her vision faded to black...

*tap tap tap* The hardened mushroom stalks of her master dual wielded like tonfa in his old hands came on strong from both sides. "Are you being attacked?" he asked Zdravko calmly.

What kind of question was that, anyways? Was this another distraction meant to test her concentration...? No, he was genuinely asking, she determined. This was a lesson.

*tap tap THWAP* Another assault routine, this time Zdravko felt her little abs tense at the heavy touch. "Is this an attack?"

Now she was just angry. She didn't get what he was trying to show her, in truth she rarely did. Zdravko wasn't like the other students...they were selected. Zdravko had to beg and do menial work for years just for a chance. She wasn't given an offer.

An offering.

*tap tap SLAP* Zdravko cushioned the blow, nearly using her whole body as a sping to slow the momentum as she caught the tonfa in her palm. "No master. Not an attack, you were simply offering me this weapon."

The master smiled. Agony returned to the goblin's senses as the sunlight above burned her sensitive mucusy skin. She was still alive, and the tentacles came at her from all sides, like tonfa.

*slice* She chopped off a 2 foot length of tentacle and sent it spinning above. *dice* Another good length went flying. Dropping her spear, her legs vaulted her up...straight towards the tall dolgaunts gaping eyes...

Snatching the two tentacles from the sky she drove them like iron spikes into the sockets, penetrating into the things corrupted brain. It started to laugh, but then felt too much pain as it vomited a black blood and fell over dead, convulsing for a few minutes pathetically before finally laying still.

"Gift from the master."

Now theres no adjacent enemy she will use her move to get behind the barrier and drop, too.

Yup understood about the opportunity attack!

Pain was an old friend, she'd known it from the moment she'd tken her first breaths in clean air. Her first shaky steps on bones that wouldn't stay one shape. The training, the fighting, the running, till she was out of breath, bruised, battered. Her flesh burned, acidic blood poured from her in rivers, matted hair almost blocked her vision.

Still the aberrations swarmed and kept coming. A gutteral howl of hatred escaped her lips, a lack of capacity to surrender, a shout to the world that nature would never relent its fight against corruption.

Reckless attack...

As Veratash was getting up to shoot more beams, he saw Artur fall and his heart stopped for a moment. He was about to panic. How could their military leader be defeated? Was he dead? Veratash didn't know. He didn't know the first thing about medicine. "Somebody do something!", he said not knowing if the others were seeing what he was seeing.

But seeing there were dolgrim nearby, he realized they were hurt and thought I hope these things sleep. "Go to sleep, all of you", he said gesturing for them to wards the ground. He dropped afterwards, afraid one of them would retaliate.

Move to get up, cast sleep using 2nd level slot at west cluster (2 3 11 12), and drop again as free action

Sleep dice: 7d8 ⇒ (7, 5, 3, 7, 6, 7, 1) = 36

The dolgrim feel drowsy, their eyelids suddenly very heavy.

@DM I think I've already used 2 sorcery points, no? Also, you're not making me roll wild magic surge. Is it because you're forgetting or are you being nice?

@Tharivol I'm not doing many rolls, so no opportunities to use the bardic inspiration. I will, give the oportunity, though

At least 2 sorcery points. I remember you casting twinned rays two times, right? Were they both 1st level spells? I'll adjust in the next turn recap. Thanks for reminding me.

I thought you had to make use of your 'Tides of Chaos' ability for you to then roll on the wild magic surge table?

Let's do this. Once you use your 'Tides of Chaos' ability then the next spell you cast is subject to the Wild Magic Surge. You can roll it yourself and incorporate the results into your description.

I hate to say this, but I should be out of level 3 spell slots. I've thrown the Stinking Cloud, and a level 3 magic missile.

"Tharivol, cover me please. I am closer, I will recover Artur."

Suiting words to action Nyd crosses the intervening terrain with greater speed than you would think someone made of wood, stone, and metal could manage.

Spell glowing in his hands, Nyd touches Artur. "I know what you have said about resources, but please forgive me this time."

I don't think I have the movement, but if I can I would prefer to cast this spell from within the Stinking Cloud, which I am immune to. However I don't think I have that much move, so if not, I will do it from just to Artur's east.

Nyd casts Repair Warforged using his last level 2 spell slot.
The healing is halved.

Blackness edged her vision, she didn't know where the paini began and her body ended, her glaive felt like part of her body, so heavy.
