Slight problem, Jevar: The doors are closed, and I don’t think Oreb has opposable thumbs (manual dexterity ability).

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Ah, I see. I figured it was open from Ian having just come through. If not, we'll figure out what else to do.

Oh, shoot! My brain did not process that fact! Yeah, Ian would have no reason to completely shut the individual room doors on his way to the front door. For some reason I just processed it as “Oh, he just teleported from X to the front door,” which he didn’t do. My bad!

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Apologies, all. I’ve been going through a bit of a mental health decline lately, and for some reason it’s a lot harder for me to motivate myself to bot a PC when I’m in this state. I promise I’m still here and I still want to GM; it’s just a lot harder to consolidate my spoons (link for context) throughout the day sometimes.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I just got back from the airport at midnight, so I don't think I can do it justice tonight, but if you like I could bot Boodiddly tomorrow evening.
Sometimes spoons are generally low, I've certainly had times like that.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I'm sorry to hear about your mental health. I hope this game isn't stressing you out! Take a break if you need it.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

or we say boodiddly's name three times and summon him :)

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

As a quick reminder Kolgradd has reach now, and is in disruptive stance. I am perpetually confused about turn order I'm afraid. I thought Kolgradd was going last which is why I posted about a possible trip and didn't include inspire courage (as I didn't know yet whether Boodiddly was going to re-up it on his turn)
Sorry, I can see how it is a bit confusing. Kolgradd IS going last among the PCs. I suppose I really shouldn't word it as "you forgot inspire courage" and I should probably word it as "I'm retroactively applying inspire courage so you know why there's a slight discrepancy in damage.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Given it's size, how the heck did that thing make it through normal-sized doors?!
A Large creature does not fully occupy a 10-foot-by-10-foot cube completely; there's some flexibility in what it can squeeze through. But generally speaking, I say it's difficult terrain for a Large creature to move through a 5-foot gap. And if they're stuck in said 5-foot gap, then they're flat-footed due to not having enough space to properly dodge.
The real question is how it managed to squeeze into the 5-foot elevator. (The adventure says it does, so it does.)

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I don't know if this is too much pulling the curtain back, but I recognize this creature from a PFS2e scenario, with the alchemical injection ability.
Was it a departure from what the 1e writeup for this book had here, or was there in fact a 1e version of this exact creature there?

I mean, I made slight modifications, but the 1e adventure had this creature, so I just used the 2e stats.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

This is an FYI that I'll be away in nature this weekend, Sat 8/19 and Sun 8/20. I'll return very late Sunday and likely won't post again until Monday 8/21.

Okay, I mentioned this before, so I’ll bring it up here. This is what I’m planning on implementing from the Remaster.
Firstly, some changes to the monster abilities Grab, Knockdown, and Push:
The monster can instead use Grab and choose one creature it’s grabbing or restraining with an appendage that has Grab and attempt to Grapple that creature. This attempt neither applies nor counts toward the creature’s multiple attack penalty.
Those of y’all with the Rage of Elements PDF might notice that what’s written here is not QUITE what’s written in that book (specifically, the italicized stuff is my own personal modification). I did this to make it feel more fair—I disagree with maintaining the Grab being automatic, and I don’t like that there’s no specification on what happens on a critical success with Push.
Secondly, regarding flail and hammer critical specializations: flail allows a Reflex save against class DC to negate falling prone, and hammer allows a Fort save for the same.
Thirdly, you can Refocus as much as you want. It was a weird and silly rule to begin with.
Finally, this one is not actually confirmed, but it’s something I’m suspicious of. In Rage of Elements, the brass bastion, which appears to be eerily similar to the brass golem from 1e. But the bastion does not have antimagic, instead having resistance to spells. This leads me to believe that Paizo is moving away from the “golems that are immune to magic” due to its ties to the OGL. As such, I’m going to implement this: instead of the headache-to-adjudicate Golem Antimagic ability, golems will instead have resistance X to spells (except Y). X will be the exact same number as the golem’s resistance to physical (except adamantine), and Y is variable depending on the golem (in the case of the alchemical golem y’all just fought, Y would’ve been sonic).
This is also the reason why I made the GM fiat that Kolgradd’s 1d10 persistent fire was the “higher amount” than Jevar’s 5d4; the 1d10 did NOT come from a spell, while the 5d4 DID, so the 5d4, after resistances, would have likely done a lot less.

Hero Points reset in a week
And because I'm always really bad about remembering to give them out, I'm just gonna give everyone a Hero Point.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Sorry, all. I'm in a weird headspace, so I probably won't be able to get a post out today.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

But then you did :) Hope it got better though.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I just realized I'd already cast Haste today, so that last one had to include a drain familiar of the 3rd level slot.
How did I lose track? Recently I de-cluttered my status line of every prepared spell (good) and moved spell/alchemical tracking to my profile. After updating something on him in herolab I re-pasted the generated bbcode into his profile, forgetting that I had spells marked off (so they were reset to black checkboxes).
So... that's the thing I'll get into the habit of not accidentally doing. I've backtracked over my recent posts and marked off the used spells again (and drain 3rd level).

GM Xavier Kahlvet wrote:Assuming that Jevar ↻ Shield Blocks this.Does the shield block prevent the injection itself from being possible?
If the Shield Block negated ALL of the damage, then an argument could be made. But it didn't, so you're still injected.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I see. Still, the save roll was good, plus Kolgradd's guidance. Here's hoping...

Jevar Shadowmantle |

FYI: I'll be away this coming weekend starting Friday evening 9/8 through Sunday 9/10 (US/Pacific time). I will have limited access to post from my phone, so I may be able to keep up over the weekend but can't guarantee a post. As it is the weekend, I suspect this won't be very disruptive to the game.

Shohreh Kassar |

Hey everyone, I apologize. I've been having a really difficult time. Trying to get back into the swing of things but started feeling anxious about how long I'd been gone. It felt ridiculous, which of course made it harder. Xavier reaching out helped kick me into actually posting, though, so I'd like to come back if you'd all be okay with it.

GM Xavier Kahlvet wrote:ooc]FYI, for the last action you could cast shield or force bolt. I’ll just assume shield.[/ooc]Oh, has it been long enough since the magical shield broke? Jevar is out of focus points.
Y'all spent 30 minutes attempting to heal after the last combat. I guess that's on me for not explicitly saying that Jevar Refocused during that time.
Just...Your Focus Pool is full, Jevar. I'll try to be more explicit next time.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

ah, yeah sorry I missed the 30m in between.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Jevar, cloudkill isn’t a spell you Sustain. It’s just there now (until the duration runs out or you Dismiss it).

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Just to save some time: the only thing left here is the opening in the northwest, which leads down for miles into the Darklands. Yeah…that’s not where y’all are meant to go. You could, but it’s not necessary, so I’m railroading y’all elsewhere.
And they spent the rest of their days wandering the Darklands :P
As the former-amnesiacs reach the top of the stairs
We should come up with a team name. How about The Darklanders?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

It hasn't been an hour since the last fight, right?
Um...yeah, I'd agree that it has NOT been an hour since the previous combat.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Hey, y’all. I just wanted to chime in for a sec to give a state on things currently.
So, my college major, for really silly reasons, is requiring me to take a “soft skills” class that is extremely painful and frustrating for my neurodivergent mind to deal with. As such, I’ve been trying most of the semester to do…something. Get the class off the curriculum, let me use my <700 hours of PFS work count as a “you definitely have these skills,” or something else. I’ve tried so so many avenues to make my case and have hit a brick wall in pretty much every case.
So, with very little left to do, I tried a last measure: I tried to get the students (who all hate this class as well) to strike against the class. And now I have allegations levied against me for violating the Student Code for “Threatening Remarks or Behaviors,” which I did not do.
So now things are difficult because I’m basically running out of money, need to find and internship next semester, have to deal with a frivolous class, AND have to deal with Student Affairs.
So…I have a lot going on. I’m not going to force the issue—I don’t know y’all’s financial situations whatsoever—but basically my only source of genuine income right now is my work on Pathfinder Infinite. I’m not saying that you HAVE to give me money or I’m gonna stop running our game or whatever, but I’m running on fumes with energy, motivation, and money, so any amount of support toward me is greatly appreciated.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I'm happy to help with those. I don't know how much getting these helps, but I hope it does. I've also passed along the link in several places I lurk on discord. I think there are a lot of folks who now prefer 2e but were always hoping to play specific Adventure Paths from 1e. I suspect this should be a pretty robust market, but possibly saturated and helped by word-of-mouth. Perhaps we can help more there too.
I hope the student affairs issue is quickly resolved as I can imagine that's a pile of stress.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Both damage rolls above expected value :D (but, I don't know that I've seen Mun's reflex save yet...)

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I...have no idea how the hell blazing fissure is going to resolve when y'all are on the second floor of a building...

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Oh right... I forgot we were one floor up. I... think I need to pick a new action as it specifies the line along "solid ground", and I admit one floor up is not "solid" ground. Bleh.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Would it be reasonable to count the movement between floors (see how many rounds of striding are used up) such that Kolgradd has some rounds of invisibility left in this new encounter?

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Oh, right-o. Never mind then.

Boodiddly |

Hey folks, apologies for the unexpected absence. I've got some health stuff going on now that's probably going to keep me from posting for the next week or so (if we're lucky, it'll be less than that). Keep having fun and keep each other safe!

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

Good luck with your health stuff Boodiddly!
