It's funny though, would we just sell it to anyone after we're done with it? Knowing what it can be used for?

Boodiddly |

It could make a nice bookend for some noble. Knowing the ritual is the other hard part of using it.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

whoops. fixing

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Hello! This is an FYI that I'll be away in nature (and away from internet and computers) starting Friday (5/26) evening, until I return late Monday (5/30). I will catch up on posts that evening.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Well... that was a brutal sequence for Shohreh (!!)

This was what I wanted to post, but I understand that it’s more important to get Shohreh back on her feet so she can heal herself. So we get it here instead!
“How dare you.” Boodiddly’s voice is flat, low, and as dark as the poisonous ichor flowing through his veins. “Do you know who I am, Citizen Glower? Did you even think to ask?” He lowers his voice even further to a hissed whisper. “You really think Emilio is the head of his rebellion? Or that instead by pretending to earn his trust, the full cell could be found and rooted out? Of course you don’t. Because You. Don’t. Think. Weeks of infiltration, months of effort - ruined, because you couldn’t keep your sword in its sheath and show your damn warrant. Did you ever think that that might have been a way to pass you a message? Of course not.” As he speaks, his own mask twists in to a flat, dull sheet that mirrors the citizen’s own.
Deception, Frightened, Mask vs White Perception DC: 1d20 + 18 - 1 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 18 - 1 + 4 = 41
“Now there’s a still a chance to salvage this. Take your thugs - excellent work finding one person, let alone three more foolish than yourself than you, by the way - and withdraw. I’ll send a signal when you’re actually needed. Understood? Good.” With that, the gnome walks away.

Boodiddly |

Note to self that Boodiddly has 7 more hitpoints and is dazzled from using Unexpected Shift.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Huh. I'm apparently exactly 60 years younger than Ian McKellen.
Anyway Hero Points reset in a week

Back!

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Did I lose the Frightened that I forgot about last turn, or is this the kind that doesn't go away while in the effect?
Human error on my part. It should’ve gone away last turn. No! You got targeted by a mass fear, then got targeted by a phantasmal killer. So you WERE frightened during this turn you just had.
Gah. Hero Point! It's the 1st but we haven't had the reset post yet so I'm not sure which I'm using, but I'll use it anyway because faceplanting into a barn wall is not the kind of heroic imagery I'm going for
Yeah, I should make a slight amendment to my “Hero Points reset at the 1st of the month” thing: Hero Points reset when I make a post saying “Hero Points have reset.” If you spend a Hero Point before then (even if it’s the 1st of the month), then it’s allowed.
That being said: Hero Points have reset

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I'll be at the UK Games Expo this weekend from now until Sunday, so please bot me if it comes back round to me by then. (He's been saving those True Strikes for Glower if it comes up)

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I’ve thought about it a bit, and I’ve put something in the House Rule Document in anticipation of the rules changes happening in the Remaster:
In the Refocus activity, remove the clause "since you last regained any Focus Points" from its Requirements. Thus, if you have 0/3 Points in your Focus Pool, you can spend 30 minutes consecutively to regain all 3 Focus Points. Class feats such as Domain Focus allows you to regain up to 2 Focus Points in a single 10-minute period. Class feats such as Domain Wellspring allow you to regain all 3 Focus Points in a single 10-minute period.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Hey folks. I got ahold of Shohreh on Discord and confirmed that they're all good, just kept very occupied by real life right now. They hope to return soon but I would suggest only under reduced IRL stress :) I don't like games adding stress on people.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Jevar level up
Ability boosts Dex, Int, Wis, Cha
Class Feat Skill Mastery (thievery to expert and then master)
Spells Summon Dragon, Wall of Stone
Skill increases Dreamlands Lore (trained)
Skill Feat Specialty Crafting, Impeccable Crafting (from Skill Mastery)
Languages Dwarven

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I haven't had much time yet, but what are folks' thoughts on Disrupting Stance vs. Combat Reflexes? I'm thinking of switching to a longhammer as soon as I can buy one, which should hopefully give more AoO chances, but disrupting stance sounds quite nice as lots of monsters cast spells. It is an action every combat though. Hmmm

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

Kolgradd level up:
Ability boosts +STR +CON +INT +WIS
Class Feat Disruptive Stance
Skill Feat Quick Climb
Languages Draconic
Disruptive stance was too tempting in the end, being able to disrupt on a regular hit seems amazing.

Boodiddly |

Disruptive Stance also has the benefit of causing Concentrate actions - of which there are many - to provoke. And I’m sure I don’t have to remind you how terrible that is for folks trying to do things like Rage, Demoralize, Envision, etc. XD
Boodiddly’s leveling up will unfortunately have to wait until tomorrow (or the weekend).

I'm back! Thanks everyone for your patience and understanding. Looks like I came in at a fun time.
Boosts: Con, Wis, Dex, Cha
Class Feat: Cast Down
Skill Feat: Doublespeak

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Apologies, I just recalled something else I should have done with my downtime. So, Jevar would certainly help Kolgradd move his +2 rune. Jevar also has a +1 armor potency rune he'd like to shift from his explorer's clothing to his leather armor.
Crafting, transfer Kolgradd's +2 weapon rune: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (10) + 22 = 32
Now, at 10% of the rune, this one is still pretty pricey at 93.5gp. What do you think Kolgradd? Jevar could use more days of his downtime to try to reduce the cost.
Crafting, transfer Jevar's +1 armor rune: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (6) + 22 = 28
At 10%, this would be 16GP to transfer, again with opportunity to bring down the cost.
In both cases, the Earn Income on-board cap makes the effort utterly futile for the +2 rune, and I think a losing battle for even the +1 rune (his original earn-income roll better supplements one or both of these, for whatever days are left for this).

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I'm on the bus and haven't caught up with gameplay yet, however Kolgradd would prefer waiting until he can buy a new weapon to transfer the rune , and is happy to pay the transfer cost, so perhaps keep your downtime and we can spend a day on it in town?

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I've been over the inventory. I'd advocate selling the sturdy shield; although it's nice I think only Kolgradd has shield block? The only time he'd ever use it is if something was immune to bludgeoning or had an enormous weakness to slashing, and I think the money is probably better in our pockets.

Shohreh Kassar |

Does everyone have resilient runes yet? I'd like to exchange my dagger and padded armor for a starknife and explorer's clothing. I'd also like to get some healer's gloves.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

yeah, those do look pretty spiffy.
GM, how do you feel about my suggested downtime changes above. Kolgradd wants me to hold off on his rune transfer, but Jevar's can get down now (so four less days of earn income, simply paying the cost of the transfer).

Shohreh Kassar |

I thought about them, and then figured I wouldn't be able to afford them. But I'm selling a bunch of stuff! I'll get it figured out. Library robes for sure.

Boodiddly |

Thanks for the patience everyone! Inventory looks good from Boodiddly’s perspective, except that nobody seems to have claimed the armor runes. Kolgradd would make sense as the person most likely to be hit by things, but if he’s already got a set then we should pick someone else to use those rather than selling and re-buying them.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

Kolgradd does have +1 armour, but does not have a resilient rune (sorry I missed that question earlier Shohreh). He can buy one though, he's already had a lot of loot (that +2 rune is worth so much!) so I wouldn't want to claim that too.

Shohreh Kassar |

So, selling off the necklace of knives, hunter's bane, crying angel pendant, and +1 padded armor, along with the dagger (after pulling the +1 rune off) and expanded healer's tools.
Buying library robes, a starknife, a striking rune, and putting the +1 potency rune on the starknife. Also getting healer's gloves and a returning rune for the starknife. That'll take all my current funds and 96.9gp of my share from selling all the loot we've got.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, so Jevar has already transferred a +1 armor potency rune from his explorer’s clothes to his leather armor.
Jevar also offered to transfer the +2 weapon potency rune from Glower’s shortsword to Kolgradd’s weapon, BUT Kolgradd declined because he’s planning on getting a different weapon in Cassomir. Similarly, you COULD still transfer the +2 weapon potency rune from the shortsword onto said new weapon (for 93.5 gp).
Shohreh wanted to buy a striking rune, but could just transfer that off of Glower’s shortsword for cheaper (meaning, along with the +1 weapon potency rune from the dagger[/i], it would be 10 gp to transfer both runes onto a starknife).
There’s still Glower’s +1 resilient runes up for grabs.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Ran out of time tonight. Will try to confirm purchases tomorrow. I suspect it will be a lot of spells/scrolls/formulae, but I'll try to find something fun too.

Shohreh Kassar |

Lol, I definitely forgot to say I was getting a regular set of healer's tools, but with this huge payday the extra bit of money seems inconsequential.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

It'll be tomorrow before Kolgradd can go on a shopping spree. I'll definitely be picking up a weapon and ask Jevar to do the transfer of the +2 potency rune onto it if that's OK Jevar. Probably a +1 striking <weapon property> Long Hammer, and then he'll probably have another weapon property rune to stick on there as well if you're willing Jevar.
Magical crafting is a direction I'd thought about taking Kolgradd, but it didn't seem sensible with Jevar being so good at it already.
How about we give Glower's resilient rune to Jevar since he's being so helpful at transferring them?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

For clarity, the church of Abadar is willing to do a simple trade-in for the runes. It's the same cost as transferring them, just saving on the time needed to do the actual transferal.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

A character can wear only 10 magical items that have the invested trait.
Are there no other limits around these items? E.g., I could invest in 10 rings? That's not quite what I want to do, but thinking about a Ring of Wizardry III.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

No other limits. There are some feats that increase the number, though.

Shohreh Kassar |

Yup, we're free of the bad old days of body slots.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

Copy that on the rune transfer. I assumed that I could buy a +1 Greater Striking Flaming Long Hammer even though it's a slightly strange item, and then transfer the +2 potency and a new Frost rune onto it, I hope that's correct.
There are sort of still slots, for example I can't wear a Hat of the Magi and a Tactician's Helm because they are both "worn headwear".
1320 +2 Resilient Half Plate (inc sell old)
1600 +1 Greater Striking Flaming Long Hammer
93.5 Transfer +2 Rune onto Long Hammer
30 Emerald Grasshopper
160 Tactician's Helm
70 Scroll of Fly
65 Striking Rune for Light Hammer
620 Pendant of the Occult (Greater) (inc sell old)
550 Frost Rune for Long Hammer + Transfer
35 Moderate Antiplague
35 Moderate Antidote.
I kept thinking I'd get a ring of energy resistance, or some sort of amour property rune, but I ran out of cash too quickly. Have I missed anything major?

Jevar Shadowmantle |

2000 Ring of Wizardry III
34 Transfer resilient rune from Glower's breastplate to Jevar's leather armor
Possibly some more items tomorrow.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

In addition to 12th-level items, is are there wizards to pay to learn spells from in our current location where it is any cheaper than just buying the scrolls?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

In addition to 12th-level items, is are there wizards to pay to learn spells from in our current location where it is any cheaper than just buying the scrolls?
I'm going to go with "no" in that regard. You'll have to buy a scroll and subsequently Learn the Spell.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

New scrolls:
- Banishment
- Blazing Fissure
- Chromatic Wall
- Cloudkill
- Cone of Cold
- Elemental Form
- Hallucination
- Prying Eye
- Telepathic Bond
- Wall of Stone
When we get a little more spare time, he can attempt to learn these in 50m (10m/spell level).

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, I'm actually going to interject on the telepathic bond, because that's an uncommon spell. But I will allow teleport as one of the scrolls (if only because it will make my job as the GM easier). I had meant to send you a PM regarding teleport, but then I completely forgot until you'd already made this post XD.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

You got it. Swapping telepathic bond for teleport. It will be another level before I can transcribe it, of course.
Don't roll a 1, don't roll a 1, don't roll a 1...
Learn a spell, 5th Banishment (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (14) + 24 = 38
Learn a spell, 5th Blazing Fissure (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (8) + 24 = 32
Learn a spell, 5th Chromatic Wall (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (4) + 24 = 28
Learn a spell, 5th Cloudkill (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (10) + 24 = 34
Learn a spell, 5th Cone of Cold (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (8) + 24 = 32
Learn a spell, 5th Elemental Form (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (20) + 24 = 44
Learn a spell, 5th Hallucination (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (17) + 24 = 41
Learn a spell, 5th Prying Eye (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (10) + 24 = 34
Learn a spell, 5th Wall of Stone (DC26 Arcana - Master): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (7) + 24 = 31
Phew!
Time: 50 minutes each, 9 spells, 450 minutes or 7.5 hours, should fit in a day. Subtracting a day of earn-income for this.
Costs: 70gp each, 9 spells: 630gp.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Oh whoops, he already had Wall of Stone from a previous level-up.
Changing that (and the scroll) to: Crushing Despair (I like things that fit the theme of this campaign - dreams and darkness).
