If it doesn’t say it, then you don’t.
Sorry, I should clarify: You would still get the item bonus (which wouldn't stack with the heartstone) on future saves against the poison, but you would NOT get a new, immediate save (as that's exclusive to the major antidote).

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Yeah, that's what I figured. I just wasn't confident that I wasn't missing something elsewhere in the rules. Thanks.

X Hums |

Sorry for my extended absence (that will likely continue). Life has gone from fine to turbulent real quick. Training two new guys at work mixed with surprised layoffs (I wasn't laid off, luckily, but the details behind the layoffs leave me sick to my stomach) has got me honestly hunting for another job at this point. It's not been a very good time and I'm not sure how long it's going to be before it gets better.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Sorry to hear. Here's hoping you find a more agreeable place soon. Take your time.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

FYI, because the goliath spider is dead, Shakur and Kolgradd are both up in this initiative block.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I SWEAR that I didn't see that Kolgradd had already posted when I said what I did yesterday.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I forgot to do this two days ago, so Hero Points reset in 5 days

Jevar Shadowmantle |

omg, we killed his children.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Level wizard (universalist, alchemist) 9
HP +6
Class features 5th-level spells, magical fortitude (expert fortitude)
Ancestry feat Multitalented (TBD 2nd level multiclass dedication feat)
Skill increase Crafting to Master
Spells Black Tentacles, Sending
+1 to proficiency bonuses, AC, attack rolls, Perception, saving throws, skill modifiers, spell attack rolls, and class DCs (wizard and alchemist)

Boodiddly |

To be fair, he didn't seem to care about them that much? Thankfully, neither did their mother. XD
New things!
- Resolve increases Boodiddly's Will proficiency to Master and bumps his Successes to Critical Successes
- Diplomacy proficiency increases to Master
- Ancestry feat: Unexpected Shift
- New spells: Command (area) and Shadow Siphon
@GM, let's chat about how to prioritize Boodiddly's reactions since he's picking up a handful of them now:
1. Someone in robes or surrounded by swirling energy or some other clear indication of spellcasting abilities -> hold reaction for shadow siphon or counter performance, but wait to see if Jevar identifies the spell before casting the spell to pick correct reaction (and to get an appropriate counteract level for shadow siphon in case of AoE damage)
2. Clear signs of visual or audible effects (such as odd noises from a creature) -> hold reaction for counter performance
3. Attackers using physical attacks -> use reaction for Unexpected Shift
Feel free to hit me up if there's doubt over these priorities, and if I'm not available then use your best judgement.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

Sorry I'm having a hectic week, I should have Kolgradd levelled tomorrow. That was a great (and gross) scene!

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Would ranger's hunted prey work with spell attacks? Considering this or rogue to add another dimension to Jevar (I didn't come in with a plan for multi-talented, but look at the other 9th-level human feats... meh).

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Well, with ranger you DON'T get their Hunter's Edge, it would just be some skill bonuses with Hunt Prey. And spells don't have range increments, so that clause doesn't really apply.
Rogue is a bit more versatile. You COULD delve into stuff like getting rogue feats and whatnot, but it also offers some good feats for skill stuff. The dedication itself gives you a bonus skill feat, and Skill Mastery is really damn good if you want skill proficiencies.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

You don't get hunters edge, but the dedication feat does state some basic bonuses on your hunted prey.
Yeah maybe rogue is the better way.
Gunslinger could also be fun flavor-wise, but I suspect the pistol would just kind of sit there for much of the time while Jevar still had spell slots.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Okay, rogue it is with training in Acrobatics and Thievery, and the Inventor skill feat.
Interestingly, this also opens up light armor for him.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

Kolgradd is done, sorry for the delay.
Interesting Things:
Juggernaut is like Resolve for Fort saves I think, Master proficiency and rolling a Success gives a Critical Success instead.
I went with Occultism for the skill increase, so now he has that and Athletics at master. Bring on the Impossibility Creation!
For ancestry feat I couldn't turn down Boulder Roll. Hopefully he'll get a chance to roll over some folks and push them into dangerous areas.
He also gets combat flexibility, allowing him to "prepare" a single 8th or lower level fighter feat each morning, provided he meets the prerequisites. To start with I'll go with Positioning Assault. Both it and Boulder roll are two action activities otherwise they'd pair really well together, but even still it might work to set up some combos.

Shakur Hektat |

Thank you for botting me and moving on without me, everyone.
To keep the update concise, my job outlook looks much more promising now! However, as soon as that started getting settled, my wife and I came down with a cold. Today, I finally feel like a regular human again, so I should be posting more frequently starting today.
As for the level up:
Master in Religion
Ancestry Feat: Sense Allies. If invisibility is going to be common, this is going to be absolutely required!
Resolve: Will saves are now Master and Successes are Critical Successes
Spells:
New 5th level: Heightened Phantasmal Killer
New 5th level: Breath of Life
Removed Phantasmal Killer from 4th level
New 4th level: Vital Beacon (y'all can now heal by making contact with Shakur as an action. 4d10 the first time, and decreases every use. Cast during daily preparations.)
If these spells end up being a bad choice, I can always redo them. I'm planning to really lean into the healer role so we'll see how that goes.
Edit: Sheet should be updated now

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I'm happy to go back immediately, the retraining is as much to occupy Koglradd on the boat as it is to change things mechanically. I Also think he'd want to stay active while mostly sleeping

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Just a request, Kolgradd: Could I get you to put juggernaut in parentheses next to your Fort bonus in your hotbar? I can guarantee you that I'll probably forget about it if you don't do that.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I should be able to post about this time tomorrow, feel free to bot me if expedient

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Hero Points reset in a week
Also, Jevar is indeed grabbed; I forgot to make a note of that in the initiative card. And the 19 to Escape fails.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I'm going to be honest, I wasn't sure how many actions I needed to spend for the impossibility. But I didn't want to hold up the round leaving actions leftover. I take it to simulate a spell it should match the activity cost? This wasn't exactly a specific spell though.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

The number of actions represents the DC of the check you need to make; more actions = lower DC.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Okay, so all three probably was a good choice. Thanks!

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Short PSA
I do not wish to make things heavily about politics, but if you live in the US, I have one thing to say: Vote. I don’t care for your political leanings (though I’m sure I can guess them), I don’t care how pointless it might feel to do so, go out and vote.
That is all.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Already voted :) (In Washington state we've had secure mail-in voting for years). I'm morbidly curious to know what your guesses would be :P

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I'm morbidly curious to know what your guesses would be :P
I made my PSA and that's it; I'm not entertaining any more political talk.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Meant to mention this, but totally forgot: Kolgradd, Shakur's player said that they would use a font slot to cast restoration and get rid of your clumsy condition.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

apologies for the delay. The booster knocked out my whole weekend :/

Shakur Hektat |

Apologies for the sudden disappearance. Again. This time should come with good news, but I can't quite share it just yet.
Just know my professional life is in chaos and I'm going to end up much better in the long run because of it. Nothing bad, though! It's just busy. I'll try to post this week now that most of the deliberation is out of my hands, but please bot me more frequently this week. I don't expect this situation to continue into next week.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

I thought Jevar cast the invisibility on Kolgradd?
Oh. For some reason it made more sense in my brain for Jevar to cast it on himself as a defensive measure. I’ll update that for next round.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I also missed that, whoops; thanks Jevar. Thanks also Shakur for the Restoration, and hopefully congrats on your good news!

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Is a flat check required for an auto-hit spell when I know the space? How about with the faerie fire?
So..I just remembered that force bolt and magic missile are two different spells that sorta do the same thing. The difference is that force bolt actually DOESN’T specify “a creature you can see” like magic missile does.
Anyway, in that case, yes, you would need to roll a DC 11 flat check to target with the force bolt. You COULD Delay until after Boodiddly (since he has consistently been the one to take care of invisibility) to only do a DC 5 flat check, but if you did so, then you would lose the flaming sphere (which might not be a bad idea, since the fiendish gentleman can literally only take damage from it on a nat 1).
ALSO also, Focus Spells are weird. You can only Refocus one point at a time, so Jevar could only use force bolt once this combat (because he used it twice last combat). Basically, if you use a focus spell twice during a combat, you effectively reduce your maximum Focus Points by 1 for the rest of the day (barring specific feats like Bonded Focus).

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Oh, I missed the part about having used it last combat. Apologies. I'll take the botting and move on.

Shakur Hektat |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Alrighty. I should be back here again! Long story short, I went on a job hunt and ended up with a significant raise.
Let's hope I don't disappear like that again for quite awhile.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Congrats on the job & raise!

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Hero Points reset in a week
Also, happy Thanksgiving to those living in the US. Go be with your family; we'll still be here tomorrow.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

A belated Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I'm going on vacation for 3 weeks. While I'll have my laptop and ought to have access to post, I'm not yet sure how much time I'll have, so please bot me as necessary.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Hey, y’all. I know I’ve been a bit slow to post recently, but I just needed to say something. So, my grandfather just passed away, so this upcoming week is probably going to be a bit crazy for me as we all figure out funeral details.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

No worries at all. Sorry for your loss.
I don't like the idea of a game adding stress so I say take all the time you need and it's always there when you return.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

May they yield more than repeated natural 1s in the new year :D

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Some context regarding my recent absence:
1. Christmas. Duh.
2. I’m currently at home (I usually live on-campus) and I’ve been playing a long video game my brother owns (God of War Ragnarok, if you’re curious), and I can only play it during this period of time, so I’m trying to finish it before I have to go back to college.
3. (This is more for Kolgradd and Jevar, because the other two already know this) My mental health has taken a serious toll because I just failed one of my classes and as a result am getting kicked out of my department. I’m trying to fight for an appeal, because I feel the whole situation is unfair (68% average on the final and no curving whatsoever), but it’s not going as I have been wishing.
I will be back at college (and thus regular posting) on Jan 3rd.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Thanks for the context. "life first" takes many forms, so honestly I just hope it all gets better (#3 in particular). Boy do I know how slogging through a video game can be a therapeutic decompression or healing activity, so I hope that's helping at least.

Kolgradd Thunderiron |

I'm sorry that sucks. 68% in an exam would be close to the highest possible grade when I was at university so that seems especially harsh. I hope it gets sorted out in your favour. I've also been quiet due to Christmas travel

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Happy New Year!
