Sorry, Urzok: Your Power Attack last round hit, and Shakur’s follow-up knocked out the apostle. Also, Urzok’s two crits just ended combat. Urzok’s two crits just ended combat; I’ll get to advancing things later today/tomorrow.

It just occurred to me, should Oreb have a sanity score and threshold? (I really want to see this bird crack).

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

It just occurred to me, should Oreb have a sanity score and threshold? (I really want to see this bird crack).
Personally, I think that that would be a bit too much to keep track of, especially considering familiars don’t truly have ability scores. If anything, I would guess that Oreb’s sanity is tied to Jevar’s.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Fair enough. They crack at the same time then.

Shakur Hektat |

Alright. A big apology to everybody involved: my holiday season went from a gentle walk to hectic in about 30 minutes, and didn't calm down until my flight touched down back home late Saturday. I should be back to regular posting.
Sorry again!

Jevar Shadowmantle |

with the botting we weren't really held up. Hope your holiday was enjoyable, if hectic

Jevar Shadowmantle |

So Jevar has been getting away without dipping into his spell slots today. Does that seem reasonable, are we picking a path through the building that avoids more challenging foes?
It sure is handy that cantrips auto-scale.

Urzok |

At least from the player side of things, these two fights are probably the most straightforward ones we've ever had! Seems appropriate to me that you've only used cantrips. Aside from the ever constant need for healing, we seem to be doing ok.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Completely separate question, seeking GM input.
Does Produce Flame qualify for Spell Delivery?
If your familiar is in your space, you can cast a spell with a range of touch, transfer its power to your familiar, and command the familiar to deliver the spell. If you do, the familiar uses its 2 actions for the round to move to a target of your choice and touch that target. If it doesn’t reach the target to touch it this turn, the spell has no effect.
So Oreb can take anything with "touch" along with him. But:
Cast Two Actions somatic, verbal
Range 30 feet; Targets 1 creatureA small ball of flame appears in the palm of your hand, and you lash out with it either in melee or at range. Make a spell attack roll against your target's AC. This is normally a ranged attack, but you can also make a melee attack against a creature in your unarmed reach. On a success, you deal 1d4 fire damage plus your spellcasting ability modifier. On a critical success, the target takes double damage and 1d4 persistent fire damage.
It doesn't exactly say the melee variation is a touch attack, but can this be implied?
Or, as the text of Reach Spell implies, is the above of "range 0" in the same way that touch is accounted for to vary range?
You can extend the range of your spells. If the next action you use is to Cast a Spell that has a range, increase that spell’s range by 30 feet. As is standard for increasing spell ranges, if the spell normally has a range of touch, you extend its range to 30 feet.
Or, does it just not qualify?

Jevar Shadowmantle |

I had this thought because I was worried about Urzok's cover last round :)
If I had the option to delivery flame via Oreb, cover becomes much less of a problem.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

That’s one of those things that, by the RAW (and by PFS) you cannot do (or would have table variation). But I see no problem with letting you do that as a house rule. As a side note, since the wording is weird, I’m gonna say that you have to separately Command Oreb (as an action) to move and deliver the spell.
Side note: aren’t you glad that I was kind and gave that to you so your go-to Cantrip wasn’t acid splash (which, uh, splashes)?

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Verily, the wording is quite weird. Thanks! Hopefully they release a FAQ about this so that it isn't a point of ambiguity for table variation.
And yes, I am thankful for produce flame :) I was still feeling out the 2e wizard when I made my choices.

Alrighty folks, we have reached the end of the sanctioned portion of Book 1, and because of that we have to deal with chronicle sheets. Now, many Adventure Paths have chronicle sheets that compliment one another—granting additional benefits if a character has multiple chronicles from the same AP. Strange Aeons’s chronicles are not like that—just pick a 1e character that you think is in need of a level and just give them the chronicle; don’t worry about maximizing any boon interactions on the chronicle sheets, because there are none.
Because we’re playing this in a different ruleset, I’m not going to allow Day Job checks (because technically the one rolling the Day Job would be the characters in Strange Aeons—Boodiddly, Jevar, Shakur, and Urzok—and not the character that the chronicle is being applied to, so playing in a different system kinda results in weirdness on that front). Anyway, I ask that you all fill out the check-in below so I can properly report the chronicle sheets:
Player Name:
Character Name:
Character Number:
Faction:
Slow Track?:
Why Were You Chosen? (see Reclaimed Memories below):
Reclaimed Memories
Every Strange Aeons chronicle sheet has a boon known as Reclaimed Memories, which grants a number of choices, but you must pick one and cross the others off of the chronicle sheet; I ask that you pick one of the choices when you do the check-in so that I can properly fill out the chronicle. The choices are below:
Archaeologist: Knowledge or Linguistics
Detective: Sense Motive or Survival
Doctor: Heal or Craft (alchemy)
Noble: Bluff or Diplomacy
Sea Captain: Intimidate or Profession (sailor)
Vagrant: Disguise or Stealth

Urzok |

Player Name: Gummy Bear
Character Name: Kiango
Character Number: 74244-15
Faction: Sovereign Court
Slow Track?: No
Why Were You Chosen? (see Reclaimed Memories below): Noble

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Are there any character requirements for these chronicles? Any level 1 character? X Hums beat me to it.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Player Name PaleDim
Character Name Avi Solrem
Character Number 272301-5
Faction The Concordance
Slow Track? nope (do people choose that?)
Why Were You Chosen? Noble

Boodiddly |

Player Name: Hawthwile
Character Name: Mindshadow
Character Number: 264524-25
Faction: Dark Archives
Slow Track?: No
Why You Were Chosen: Doctor

Well s+%&. Can't say no to that, now can I?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Okay, saying this right now: considering how devastating AoEs would be to Oreb, I'm putting a new house rule (or interpretation, rather) in place to make familiars not absurdly squishy: As long as the familiar is occupying the same space as the master, it's assumed that the master takes precautions to protect the familiar from harm, effectively making them immune to AoE stuff. In exchange, the master has to carry an additional light bulk (the weight of the familiar on the master's shoulder).
I realize this because one bad roll against the waves of blood would've resulted in Oreb taking 30 damage, which would've just straight-up killed her as that's twice her max HP, and non-incapacitation-trait-insta-death is not okay.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

She usually does sit there. The extra weight seems fair.
Out of curiosity, what made you think of this now?

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

The fact that Boodiddly just took 30 damage (which is not statistically abnormal for a crit-fail) and the thought of Oreb flat-Out dying (since that’s double her HP, and a single blow dealing double max HP kills a creature) seems really unfair.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Got it. I saw what happened to him. I ask because I didn't specifically see an AoO. But I see what you mean w.r.t. the risk there.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Requested permission (looks like the folder isn't open).

Um…you are aware of how water pressure works, right? Granted, that’s a situation of being completely submerged, but the basic principle is still the same: way too much pressure on one side over the other. The blood is about to your guys’ waist (Boodiddly’s shoulders), so while it’s not impossible to open a door given the circumstances, it’s still really difficult. Gonna call it an Athletics check to Force Open.

Shakur (-15)
Jevar (-7)
Boodiddly (-6)

Apologies if that came across as a bit too rude; I meant to actually be informative but chose a poor set of words.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Of course it isn't. Hold on.
That works, and the chronicle looks good. Thank you!

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Now to figure out what to do in our present predicament...
Should it be more obvious?

Boodiddly |

Well, if the options are to go forward or go backward...
And remember that we have three actions, which is 75 ft of movement (before terrain penalties) should we want.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

75 ft to where, and find ourselves stuck and without air? I guess one could do 25 in, 25 out (and hope that the standing muck is not otherwise acidic/harmful/etc).

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

"Screw it. I'm not dying covered in blood that isn't my own." Shakur says as he trudges forward (towards the blood source) as best he can.
Three action move. I'm not sure if I need to roll anything, so @GM, please roll for me.
Um...A new round hasn’t started yet, Shakur...We’re still waiting on Urzok.

Urzok |

Chronicle looks good, thanks GM! :)
EDIT: Did I miss a day of posts or did my daily posting time just not sync up with y'all? Sorry for the delay!

You didn't post on Monday, but otherwise Shrug.

Urzok |

Oh snap, my fault. I accept your shrug, however I still feel like I owe a possible explanation (I don't like missing a day and feel guilty)! It looks like another one of my campaigns was removed from my tab and the resulting shift has put this one at the very bottom. Must have stopped scrolling when I got to my former bottom campaign. D'oh!

Dude, it's the worst when that happens. Do you use the plugin to highlight "New Post" alerts on your campaign page? I like it because it lets me scroll through quickly and (usually) not miss the now-bright orange notification.

Try here! FYI, it's for Chrome.

”A malevolent spirit of some kind. I think the most common method of banishment is through healing magics, like any other undead.”
Okay, time for another info-dump Tangent.
So things like traps, haunts, and avalanches got rolled into a single category called hazards and they work how traps do: you need to see them with Perception (sometimes you need a minimum proficiency and to state that you’re Searching), they require skill checks to disable (sometimes you can break them with hit point damage) and they do debilitating effects (generally damage) if you trigger them.
Now, because haunts are now hazards, that means that except for specific haunts they actually don’t take damage from positive energy, but they can be subdued with a skill check.
The general skill checks for the hazards are: mechanical traps: Thievery; magical traps: Arcana; environmental traps (avalanches, quicksand, etc.): Survival; haunts: Religion. Now, these are the general skills used, but depending on the flavor of disabling the hazard other skills might (or even must) be used (e.g. I’ve seen a broken floorboards hazard in a PFS scenario where disabling it required a Crafting check to reinforce the support beams).
TL; DR: Haunts are much more similar to traps than they are to undead creatures.

Urzok |

I kind of like that! That's better than either being a joke encounter because you have a cleric or a horrific resource drain because you don't.

GM Xavier Kahlvet |

Apologies. Environmental hazards are usually disabled by Survival OR Nature, while haunts are usually disabled by Religion OR Occultism.

Jevar Shadowmantle |

Oh, so occultism might apply here!

He fishes around in his pack and hands a MODERATE healing poition to the half-orc. He pulls out an additional pouch, but the offer isn't as serious.
I have some opium too if the pain from your injuries is too great.
A) Urzok (along with everyone else) has their own moderate healing potion because of that Paizo tweet.
B) [sarcasm]Yes, we definitely need the fighter to also have a drug problem.[/sarcasm]
C) The current main concern of moving on vs resting is the fact that your cleric is currently out of heals.
