So just how, kill 'em all is Ekun? I'm inclined to see if we can convince this troll to let us in, but if it's guaranteed to end in combat, I'd rather not throw away the advantage.

Faerin, I need an answer from the GM before I answer that question.
No, this is not the one you are hunting in particualr, that is a Rock Troll named Kargadd. However, Ekun is not fond of the idea of treating any troll with mercy. He does have a rather irrational hatred for them.

That would be a fun one to take to court, counselor ;) not so sure I would say irrational
The dialog in the CRPG gets pretty intense as Ekun relates his story ... I'm not going to lay down any spoilers, but I smiled when I saw this because this segment of the game is just starting in my current playthrough.Ekundayo "Ekun" Trollkiller |

No spoilers needed. I have almost finished my first run in the Kingmaker CRPG (rage quit in HATEOT because of a certain cut scene) and Ekundayo was one of the character that always stayed with the "party" ever since meeting him, so I know his complete story. Just trying to separate player knowledge from character knowledge.

For now. We'll see how long it lasts. Also easier to fight the way out than in.

Can we get a head count? This would be a good place to recruit again if we lost people. Before going into a den of enemies.

Reg, since it's no longer obscured by fog you could use your wand. You still have an action this round.

Thank you Baroness, I truly did not even think of that.

So first of all from a player standpoint, welcome back! Happy to have you back.
I get having a character you enjoy so you should definitely play what you want to play.
From a story point of view, how would Pyros coming back work? Say Kyonin didn't need him or whatever reason he has for his leaving being reversed, do we just carry on as if he never left and anything that happened since then didn't happen?
If not, In character does he take back the mantle of Baron? How would people feel about someone abdicating then changing their mind and coming back?
From a kingdom building standpoint Pyros' stats are probably better in the ruler role that Faerin's, with Faerin's stats are probably better in the high priest position. Not sure how much of a factor that will play with the pace we're going at.
From an in game standpoint, Faerin sees herself as the spiritual leader and the soul of our new nation, but definitely isn't a politician by choice. I'm sure Pyros is better built for the political aspect, both from gameplay and build/background wise.
Personally I'm not a huge fan of retconning stuff, though if we can figure out a viable way for things to work going forward, then by all means. Everybody should be able to have fun and play the character they want to play.

Any thoughts?
Having originally come up with the concept of Pyros' departure based on duty to the land of his origin, why not just continue to write his story that way? What if Pyros, like a young law student, not only delved deep into the ancient laws of the land itself, but found remedy there for his predicment: Pyros snuck off and "discharged his duty" (puns intended); he secretly sired a 3/4 elven child AND then wish-bound the entire elven court, including Telandia Edasseril, into a protection agreement which made all of them responsible for both the child's viability and protection, leaving Pyros free to champion the growth of his Barony AND free to one day designate his inheritor back in Kyonin.
... and they all lived happily for like a minute

Sooooo....Pyros, Galahad any opinion on moving forward?
Reg are you going to take an action in combat? If Trevor still needs NPC'ing he's still up.

Sorry ... real life was a touch exhausting, my bad

Sorry, I haven't been on this last week. Just started as a Broward County public defender. I will be on a regular schedule again next week. I will try and post somethign soon.
CONGRATULATIONS!

So after thinking it over, I think I'm going to go a different way. I like the Druidic Realm vibe y'all have going on and Pyros doesn't really fit that. So...what does the party need, and what Kingdom roles are open? Not saying I'm open to absolutely anything, but I'll try to build something I like that fills a need. Probably something more nature focused like a Hunter, Ranger, Druid, etc, though trying not to overlap with what the party already has any more than I have to.

So so far we've got:
Advisors
Ruler - Faerin
Regent - Valerie
Councilor - Tristian
General - Regongar
High Priest - Harrim
Treasurer - Jubilost
Marshal – Ekun
Open/temprary are:
Minister/Spymaster –
Royal assassin
Warden- (Right now setting up to be Kesten, but open)
Magus – Blind storyteller (for now)
There’s also Royal Enforcer.
Royal Enforcer
The Royal Enforcer deals with punishing criminals, working with the Councilor to make sure the citizens feel the government is adequately dealing with wrongdoers, and working with the Marshal to capture fugitives from the law. The Royal Enforcer may grant civilians the authority to kill in the name of the law.
Benefit(s): Add your Dexterity modifier or Strength modifier to Loyalty. During the Upkeep Phase, you may decrease Unrest by 1 (this is not affected by having the Leadership feat); if you do so, you must succeed at a Loyalty check or Loyalty decreases by 1.
Vacancy Penalty: None.
There's quite a few that could be filled by any of the classes you mentioned, and a number of classes have a nature themed archetype. There's even a nature themed Magus which ironically has a bit of Pyros' flavor to it
Ekundayo "Ekun" Trollkiller |
Rather than looking at it from an Advisor position, I look at it as what does the group need for a PC.
Faerin - Druid (switch between melee/range, semi-healer)
Regongar - Magus (melee with spells)
Anton - Swordlord (melee)
Octavia - wizard/rogue (btw, shouldn't she be the magic advisor?)
Ekun - Ranger (switch, mostly range, but some melee)
The only thing that is missing from a PC standpoint is a full healer, as Harrim is an NPC.
I would suggest, if it is ok with you and the DM that you bring in a Cleric or Oracle.
My 2 cents.
-- Ekun
Faerin Cordova |
Very true, with Oracle, you could easily go with Nature, Life, Elemental...a number of possible Mysteries can fit in quite well with the Druidic Realm vibe and there are quite a few Cleric domains that support that feel as well.
On that note there's also Shaman, and Witch as far as full casters go, both of which have nature themed options that offer a pretty strong spell selection and even for the Paladin class there's the Forest Preserver if you were looking for something out of the ordinary.
Pyros Aldori |
Ok, so...I was thinking about how many Kingdom positions we have unfilled, and also about building something with an animal companion, because it fits the theme, and I had kind of a wild idea: can I take Leadership or Monstrous Companion and have an Awakened Animal cohort? It would be useful enough as a flank buddy in combat (though likely actually less capable than a normal AC, given that it wouldn't get all the bonuses an AC does), and it could also fill one of the kingdom roles. After all, who would expect that the unremarkable stray dog that wanders the capital's streets is actually the kingdom's Spymaster? Having a talking animal on the High Council feels like it fits the Druidic Realm theme too.
Thoughts, Questions, Comments?
Edit: I know that at some point Leadership would give other low-level followers, they can be just, like, notional bureaucrats in whatever department I'm heading or something. I'm not worried about them.

Reg cast those Magic Missles TWO weeks ago ... let's get going :)
We don't have to wring our hands all that much, we can just have Pyros' new incarnation bound on a leash held by the trolls we are fighting now: poof, he's rescued and back with us. Let's do this.

I am very sorry folks, this new job is very intensive for the first couple of weeks. I have spent the nights doing prep work for training and I start actual court on Monday.
I am working on a schedule to continue this game. I will post more on Sunday and everyone can let me know their position on proceding. Btw, Trevor passed away last week. That was another issue I was distracted by.
Faerin Cordova |
Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear that. Sorry for your loss.
Real life comes first obviously, so whatever you need to do to handle what's on your plate is the priority. Appreciate the check in.
