Roderick looks out in the hall, then back to the combat.
Is the creature able to put up so much resistance while chained? What manner of beast is this abomination?

GM Elberion |

The malformed gnoll-thing makes a last pull at its chains and then stumbles back, slumping against the cavern wall as its wounds overwhelm it.
The distended maw sinks open onto her chest and you can see now that she must have had trouble properly closing it.
The creature has six teats running down her belly and a black substance leaks from them as her corpse relaxes.

GM Elberion |

The Pathfinders discover that they have slain everyone in this blighted temple, except for the ghost who they drove away.
The only other living soul is the sleeping woman, Othine.
I'm going to move things on and assume that you search everywhere thoroughly, perhaps pausing for a bite to eat, a comfort break and a spot of light healing. Feel free to roll any healing while you search.
Searching through the place to find if they have missed anything...
Searching the priestesses chamber, you find a statuette of Lamashtu that serves as a secret scroll case. Within is a scroll of consecrate and an ancient note that reads, “Daithok, if I should fail, take this scroll and have a priest read it over the B~$$+-Queen’s ashes.”
You already learnt that the 'b$+#$-queen' is Ankhazu, the ghost of a cruel Lamashtan priestess.

Roderick searches around, trying to find other surviving victims or hiding slavers.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11 LOL
I say, we seem to have eradicated the better part of this nest of malice. All have fled or been slain. But yet, somehow it feels incomplete. I just cannot place my finger on this puzzle.

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
"This scroll is, perhaps, a way to put that wandering spirit to rest. If we can find the appropriate remains, of course."

Zadim - Pregen |

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
"What is this?" mutters Zadim aloud as he heads toward a statue at the end of the long corridor. Upon reaching it, he lightly lays a hand on a catch on its belly. "It would seem that the belly of this statue opens, much like the one that Othine fled through. Shall we?"

![]() |

It seems to be appropriate, Zadim. I can offer no better solution to this puzzle. Roderick nods with a puff on his pipe, deep in thought.

GM Elberion |

Okay, two will do.
Zadim slides up the hatch and inside the hollow belly of this statue he finds a homunculus fashioned from a gruesomely mummified gnoll fetus that wears a single key on a small chain around its neck.
It blinks once at Zadim and then demands, “Have you brought me my offering?”

GM Elberion |

"I am the gatekeeper. Have you brought my offering?"

GM Elberion |

The homonculus replies, ”The milk of my mother.”

Zadim - Pregen |

Zadim glares at the creature, prepared to offer it only death.
Will leave this up to more "Diplomatic" PCs for now.

![]() |

Nanny is pretty morally flexible, especially if it comes to learning new things, but if people object strongly to giving this thing some milk from the dead gnoll, she won't stand in the way of you killing it.

![]() |

Unless the gatekeeper is the only way in, Roderick is also fine with ending it.
” Or are there other suitable offerings in the event the mother is ill disposed?“

GM Elberion |

"What will you give us, for this offering?"
The homonculus looks at you as if the answer is obvious, "I am the gatekeeper."

Le Kyra Pregen |

GM Elberion |

Ha! Of similar intelligence. It's another piece of grotesque from this place: a mummified foetus given a magical pseudo-intelligence...

Zuul will rule!
Awww. I'm fed up with those horrors, you know. We've seen too much of these Lamashtu followers torturing poor souls and using their bodies for their evil plans
Brallenera attacks the homonculus

GM Elberion |

The homunculus dies in a scatter of splintered bone and dried cotton. The only thing remaining is the key on a brittle leather thong that had been around the construct's neck.
Behind it, within the hidden alcove, you see a keyhole.

Zadim - Pregen |

Zadim sheds no tears over the creature's demise. He yanks the key from the neck of the corpse, scans the alcove...
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
and inserts the key into the keyhole.

GM Elberion |

So, I worked off the marching order and randomised where you all stood...
As the key turns in the lock, a bolt of lightning shoots along the corridor.
electricity damage, dc14 reflex for half: 9d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 4, 1, 6, 5, 4, 2, 5) = 37
Nanny and Kermit are out of the line of fire. Everyone else must save.

Zadim - Pregen |

Reflex save: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Zadim ducks out of the way, avoiding the mass of the voltage. He turns to the cleric and implores, "Good Lady, I am in need of your healing touch."
Was down 3 hp before the ghost, lost 34 hp in gnoll maw fight, and then 19 hp from zap.

![]() |

Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18.
Victor dodges the worst of the blast.
I always like it when the scenario punishes the party for adopting the 'hack first and hack often' approach ;-)

Le Kyra Pregen |

Reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Kyra is unlucky and takes the brunt of it.
She uses one of her few remaining channels.
Healing: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 5, 1, 4, 6) = 21
Should we keep the last 2 channels for the fight with the ghost?
If so, wands and sacrificial spell slots could be used to fill up the HP.

Roderick cringes...
reflex: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Ouch! I say, let us not do that again!

![]() |

Ref DC 14: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Brallenera barely manages to avoid some of the damage, throwing herself to the ground without any grace.
Fortunatly, when you are a dwarf, the ground is rarely too far.

GM Elberion |

Reflex: 1d20+7.
Victor dodges the worst of the blast.

Normally, I would agree. However, after putting you through battle after battle after battle, it seems a bit of a mean trick to suddenly ask the PCs to switch gears.

However, after putting you through battle after battle after battle, it seems a bit of a mean trick to suddenly ask the PCs to switch gears.
Especially when they paint a disturbing picture almost begging the PCs to destroy pure evil.

GM Elberion |

The lightning bolt fades as the key finishes turning in the lock with an audible click.
A larger panel in the statue swings aside and it is clear that you can climb through the belly of the statue to reach a passageway beyond.

You are approaching the last room of the temple. No doubt it will contain fluffy pillows and fountains of healing water...

If so, wands and sacrificial spell slots could be used to fill up the HP.
"Thank you, as always, Good Lady." says Zadim. "Please, keep the remainder of your divine power in reserve. No doubt, that spirit still lurks within this accursed walls."
The slayer helps himself to six vials of the remaining eight potions of cure light wounds.
