Well, the dentist visit is over and done with. The dentist told me he loves having me as a patient. Of course he does. I'm f$%king awesome. And a joy to be in the presence of.

Scarab Sages

I'm also quite dapper, but that's a whole other story.

Scarab Sages

You've been
Thunderstruck, thunderstruck
Yeah, yeah, yeah, thunderstruck
Ooh, thunderstruck, yeah

Sounds like some rain is finally coming through.

Scarab Sages

Well, the people at the eye doctor adjusted my frames. Most of the adjustment came with bending back the temple tips. I think he also widened the nose arms and pads. The first adjustment may have helped. The second one I don't think did much of anything. So I may have to go back again.

Scarab Sages

I'll give it a week or so, and if they're still bothering me I'll go back again. Maybe try to get completely new frames.

Scarab Sages

In the mean time, I'm swishing and spitting warm salt water to keep the swelling down in my gums. An inevitable side effect of the dental work I went through this morning.

At this point, I'm just trying to avoid taking ibuprofen. That stuff plays havoc with my stomach.

Scarab Sages

Happy Saturday!

Scarab Sages

It's certainly a gloomy Saturday, though. Weather-wise, at least. I think we're set to get some rain later today. With more to come tomorrow and Monday.

Scarab Sages

However, with this rain is supposed to come cooler temperatures. At least, that's what I heard. Hoping it's true.

Scarab Sages

The only downside is the turn in the weather destroys my hope of giving the dog a bath this weekend.

Scarab Sages

I did not do any comic cataloging yesterday. I had ordered the last nine books in a series I had started collecting years ago, and they arrived yesterday around lunch. So I got out the books I had originally collected and started reading through those instead.

As I read each issues, I transferred it to a mylar bag and new board. I only made it through a few issues before it was time for the usual Friday youtube show I watch, but that was worth it. I might continue reading those today, if I get time.

Scarab Sages

Although I probably should catalog the books that were delivered.

Scarab Sages

After my youtube show was over, I spent the rest of the evening watching Twilight Zone. Finished off season 1 and started on the next. Good stuff.

Scarab Sages

This morning, I saw an article about Julia Roberts and her new movie. Apparently, it's controversial. To be honest, I was only peripherally aware of it, and only because I heard someone else talking about it. I had nearly forgotten she still made movies.

Anyway, the movie is about a topic from several years back. Something that went on in Hollywood. It was commie celebrities eating each other, so to speak, so at the time I didn't much care about it.

In hindsight, I should have cared. It signaled a powershift in Hollywood that has given us much of what passes for "entertainment" these days.

Scarab Sages

Although, at least it got some really bad actors off the streets (again, so to speak). At least one of whom went to prison. This was, of course, after his movies stopped making money and he became useless as a fundraiser and influencer for certain...people.

Scarab Sages

And that's as close as I'd like to skirt to that particular topic.

Scarab Sages

Back to Julia Roberts...

I don't care for most of her movies. The one I do like, and count among my all-time favorites, is The Pelican Brief. That is one of those movies I can watch any time I find it on the TV. I've probably seen it more than 20 times over the years.

To this day, I'm amazed I don't own a copy. Maybe I should check to see if it's on 4K....

Scarab Sages

My running about for the day is (hopefully) done. And still there I has not been the promised rain. We’ve currently got a mix of sun and clouds. It made driving home particularly annoying, vis-a-vis sunglasses.

Scarab Sages

Speaking of my drive home…,

I once again witnessed what seems to be a frighteningly growing trend. Many of our roads are two lanes each way, with a dividing lane for turning in between. It’s often called the “suicide lane”. And the recent trend I’ve seen is people using this “suicide lane” as a passing lane.

I treat these people as lunatic a-holes who are best avoided. I mean, I’ve done some aggressive driving in my time, but even I’m not that much of an a-hole.

Scarab Sages

Happy Sunday!

Scarab Sages

It's happy because I don't have to go to THAT PLACE tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

I was told by the licensing chick at work to expect an email from Florida. They put in for a firm engineering license application, and since I'm the only engineer currently licensed in Florida, they put me as the "Responsible Engineer".

I know....I'd laugh to.

Anyway, I know they're eager to have me as the engineer and get that license, since we're bidding for a big job over near Cape Canaveral. It's for the same company whose job we didn't get chosen for here in Texas. And yet, the bureaucrats in Florida have not seen fit to send me anything yet. I imagine someone at work will try to blame me for that.

Scarab Sages

The other funny part about this is I'm guessing the won't even put me on that project. Even though I'd be the firm's "Responsible Engineer" (and, as far as I know, it's only licensed ME).

Scarab Sages

In honor of Labor Day tomorrow, I think I shall have the entire family (minus the dog, of course) work on cleaning up the house.

Scarab Sages

My oldest brother texted me yesterday. His youngest boy started at Southeastern Louisiana University, and is going through rush. Apparently, he's leaning towards Delta Tau Delta. The boy's great uncle, on his mother's side, was a founding member there. And, of course, I was a Delt at Southern Miss.

Scarab Sages

So that'd be cool.

Scarab Sages

Not that I see that kid all that much. Last time might have been my dad's funeral. That was about 11 years ago. I may have seen him again in the few years that followed my father's passing, but honestly can't recall.

The kid is really weird. He's whip smart, with a phenomenal memory, but is pretty much focused on sports (which he never played) and sports statistics. I think he even chose that school because they have some kind of sports major for non-sports people. I hope he can make a career out of it, but I personally think he's wasting his potential.

Scarab Sages

Then again, I think my own son is wasting his potential as well. He's taking some kind of stupid "video game" path in high school. Hopefully, it'll at least give him a working knowledge of coding and IT stuff. Something he can fall back on to make a decent living.

Scarab Sages

My daughter, despite also being good at math and the sciences, seems more focused on art. When she gets to high school, I expect her to waste whatever path she chooses on some kind of art crap. Sad, but I won't hold my breath thinking she might choose a more worthwhile path.

Scarab Sages

Anyway....

Spent yesterday evening with a bit of a headache. By the time it cleared away, I ate dinner, watched a bit of Twilight Zone, then switched over to watching Event Horizon. Such an awesome movie.

It got done kind of early, though. So I switched back over to a few more episodes of Twilight Zone before heading off to bed.

Scarab Sages

I see that Jaws pulled in something like $3 million on Friday. Second place at the box office. Not bad for a 50 year old movie.

Scarab Sages

And that Weapons movie has surpassed $200 million at the box office. Not bad for a movie with a reported budget of $38 million. Maybe Disney should get the people who made that movie to put out an MCU film. It's been awhile since they had one of those that actually made money.

Scarab Sages

I also see that Tyler Hoechlin, the actor who portrayed Superman in that most recent TV series (which wasn't half bad) has expressed interest in playing Batman. I honestly think he'd be a good fit for the role.

The only problem is, it would be a James Gunn Batman, which is going to suck big, hairy goat testicles. What else would you expect from someone who's favorite Robin is the Crap Wonder, Damian. Plus, he'll probably have that hack Tom King working on it.

Scarab Sages

Time to be moving on from here. For now anyway. I might try a little bit of mapping this morning. Then some more laundry and a bit of house cleaning. Later this afternoon, I'll put some ribs in the smoker for dinner tonight.

Scarab Sages

We got a pretty heavy downpour earlier, but it didn’t last. Now it’s just gloomy. I’m hoping we get some more rain.

Scarab Sages

Lunch has been eaten, though. The ribs are in the smoker. And the second of two loads of clothes is almost done washing. After that, I can set my dishwasher going.

Scarab Sages

Then I might try for some comic cataloging.

Scarab Sages

Happy Monday!

Scarab Sages

For once.

Scarab Sages

Well, I shouldn't say that. There are other Monday holidays out there, giving us a merciful break from that most craptastic day of the week.

Scarab Sages

Not much planned for today. I washed a new pot my wife had bought. It's a Le Creuset, so it should last a good long while. I had thought to use it to cook some bacon, but it was too small for that. So I ended up using the pot this new one is replacing.

I got all the bacon cooked, but it was a pain in the butt to get it done. Needless to say, that old pot has failed me for the last time.

Scarab Sages

Not much else planned for today. I finished reading through my (now complete) entire run of Hellstorm: Prince of Lies. While doing my read through, I rebagged and boarded them. This time with Mylar bags.

Scarab Sages

I also cataloged another long box of comics, bringing my total up to 7,582. I'll probably do some more cataloging later today.

Scarab Sages

I almost feel like stirring up trouble by linking a certain article in a certain other thread, demonstrating to someone their wishful thinking is just that. After all, if the company itself openly states a certain product lost money, shouldn't we take their word for it?

Scarab Sages

I won't, though. Since the only trouble I'd be stirring up would be directed at me. I'm sure the powers that be would be welcoming to a good excuse to get rid of me.

Scarab Sages

Anyway...I did at least log on to my work computer this morning. Despite that the office is closed. I figured I'd put my time sheet for today in now, that way I don't have to do two of them tomorrow.

Scarab Sages

My younger brother and his wife moved there oldest boy back to college this weekend. They were up there for a football game, and got to see their son's school kick the crap out of their nephew's school.

My oldest brother's youngest boy started college recently, and was going to the other school. The one younger brother's son was battling on the field.

Scarab Sages

I'm not sure my younger brother realizes this. He might not be aware our nephew is going to that other school.

Scarab Sages

I watched Hellboy last night, just for fun. This was the original with Ron Perlman. I always liked the movie, despite it not being a faithful adaptation. And I still like it, despite Perlman going bat-s@%t crazy in these last few years.

Scarab Sages

I quoted Ghostbusters to my baby girl earlier, and she looked confused. So now I'll have to find a day to introduce her to that movie. It's only the greatest comedy of all time. Anyone who says different is clearly delusional. And probably a filthy commie.
