Rinika
Rinika would like to get her stuff back, maybe do some light revenge on Eighttoes for being such a deceitful and backstabbing so-and-so. She's also contemplating how best to distract dabuses for a day for the Doomie Entrance Exam.
Vaascht
Vaascht would want his stuff back (ok, revenge is the real motivator) and to sell/split the loot. He is a mercenary after all.
Oh and totally trading spells with Nik, probably needing to set up his own spell book if he can't get that one back.
And shopping. Need pearls of power, depending on what the profit situation was from that haul.
Nikrir Leldro
While we figure out what loot we want to keep instead of sell, why don't we also figure out what to do with the captured guards and the catatonic half-elf :3
Nik doesn't want to deal with them xD
Probably wants to just get rid of them as quickly as possible, maybe just set 'em free?
as for loot:
I deleted the water barrel row. Several short tons for just a few gp didn't seem worth it. Jek can easily carry the rest, so I didn't worry about it too much. I think now would be a good time to mark the loot with your name and/or move it to your tab xD
Vaascht
We are back in the lower ward, just tell the prisoners good bye and move on. They are big boys and gals, they can figure it out from there.
I see Vaascht is carrying 200lbs of trail rations for some reason, I'll have to dump some of that :)
For all the crap we found all I want is the sweet katana, IIRC.
Jek Tal'dor
Items marked with a character name have been moved to character tabs. If anyone wants something from party loot before it's sold, please mark its line with your character name or mention it in a post.
I'm planning to sell the unclaimed weapons, armor, and shields for 50% value tomorrow evening. The other items are mostly high utility and/or low weight so they may as well stay. Otherwise, a modest supply of ranged ammunition will be kept just in case.
Thoughts?

The party is hired vicariously to find Eliath, a barmy who lives in the Hive Ward, by Branden Mawl of the Free League.
The party heads to the Smoldering Corpse Bar looking for information where Rinika almost makes a deal with a devil. This is the first of many bars they visit.
While traipsing around the Hive Ward they encounter a man whose name they learn later, Tylaric Stormwing, he’s clearly insane and speaking the names of Abyssal Lords over and over while dancing. They soon find that Tylaric died under unclear circumstances, but perhaps because he is not their target the party does nothing to investigate Tylaric’s death.
While searching for the bar called Quake’s place in the Hive (the Xaositect’s turff which is in the Hive Ward), they are assaulted by Gilly Geitmann, a Chaosman factotum. Gilly is searching for the spellslinger who’s behind a rash of murders in the Hive Ward recently. After knocking Vaascht out Gilly suggests that they party ask the Dustmen if Eliath’s body was turned in by a collector.
On the way to the Mortuary the party witnesses a murder committed by someone who they will encounter again later, the Shadowknave. The Shadowknave and his bashers fail to notice the party and the party doesn’t get involved for one reason or another.
At the Mortuary the party meets with Ulthdar Eighttoes a Dustman who helped Rinika get on her feet when she first found herself in Sigil. He tells the party that Eliath was turned in by a collector dead and incinerated a week ago. Eighttoes says the collector Mourner-Tom brought Eliath’s body to the Mortuary. Eighttoes tells Rinika to talk to him alone later, something that he can only share with someone he trusts.
The party returns to Mawl to report that Eliath is dead but another one of the Indep’s agents saw Eliath at the Black Sail tavern. And he’s joined the Doomguard, Mawl suspects that the Doomguard and Dustment worked together to fake Eliath’s death to get at what he knows. Mawl clarifies that he’s after a lead on the portal to a demi-plane, the Isles of Black Trees which is rumored to have a great treasure within it.
The party goes to the Black Sail to verify Zeke’s information and they find their quarry in a completely different ward than the one they were looking in. After some cowboy diplomacy Eliath relates his story. He arrived in Sigil 15 years ago but went insane and says he died not knowing who or where he was. But he claims he was granted a second chance by his deity, brought back to life, made sane, and given instructions to join the Doomguard and wait for his deity’s agents to contact him with further instructions.
Heading back to Mawl the party encounters Tylaric Stormwing again, this time very much alive and he relates a story that’s similar to Eliath’s. He was given a second chance by his deity and reincarnated, instructed to join the Sign of One and wait for his deity’s messenger.
Mawl thinks the Dustmen are behind the plot but takes personal offense to people being brainwashed so he hires the party to rescue them. The party decides to have another chat with Eighttoes but on the way are captured by the Shadowknave. Before they are sent to the plane of fire they see that Eighttoes is pushing them into the flames. Nik walks in on them while he’s doing it and Eighttoes is forced to send Nik through the portal after the rest of the party. Eighttoes mentions abandoning this persona.
The party fights their way through the citadel of fire. Interrogating the guards they discover that Imogen, a githzerai, runs the citadel of fire along with a cadre of lieutenants. They all work for Green Marvant, the leader of a group called the illuminated which is based out of Plague-Mort, the gate-town to the Abyss. In the citadel the party finds four people locked up. They claim to have been told they were dead and waiting judgement from their gods.
Vaascht
Wonderful summary, so we didn't figure out the mystery of "why" yet and I didn't miss it.
Though the gates to the abyss sound like the kind of place we might need more levels to storm.
Rinika
Thanks for the write-up. That's about where I thought we were but it's nice to see it all in one place.
Delmoth, how would you feel about Rinika taking the Warsighted archetype? I'm mulling it over, still not 100% that I'd like to but I think at this point it would be a straightforward swap.
Vaascht
I like that one, gives a bunch of possibly versatile options
DM_Delmoth
I'm generally fine with character rebuilds if you're unhappy with your current build

I agree! Including a few cool thematic options like Blazing Aura, although unfortunately most of the other conduit feats aren't combat feats. The shadow mystery has a lot of illusion-based revelations that I'm not all that interested in though so this would help fill the gaps.

Cool, thanks!

Rinika
Yeah, I've been thinking I might just grab that with a normal feat. Move action to activate fast healing is sweet, and the extra bonuses are just gravy.
Nikrir Leldro
Step 1: release prisoners and hand them the person they were complicit in kidnapping. Step 2: get drunk. Step 3: profit! Bonus step: visit Eighttoes? Rinika does know where he lives.
Proof that we aren't all good aligned :D

Loot has been cashed in. We are up to 3630.8 gold in the party loot. I'm not sure how we want to handle this.
Would anyone like to suggest some things to buy?
Personally, I am hoping for 500g or so to have this magic longspear reworked into a lance since cavaliers are pretty much based around them.
Nikrir Leldro
Nik and Vaascht will want 100~200 gold each for scribing spells :3
Vaascht
Scribing a few spells would be nice, the standard CLW or Infernal Healing wand would be excellent party gear since we seem to get beat up with a fair regularity.
Else, Vaascht has that nice sword so he's good on party loot until others catch up, maybe others need a piece or two to get awesome (like the aforementioned lance) like him (in his own mind anyway, reality May differ. But who asked reality anyway :))
Rinika
Rinika would appreciate an infernal healing wand over a cure wand, if it's all the same to the rest of you. She's mostly concerned about accumulating shinies at this point but even there she's pretty well set for a while.

He holds out his hand and a book floats to it, Akin hands it to Nik, "Just got this in this morning. Supposed to be the spellbook of some chosen one of Shelyn, whoever that is."
I lol'd, you got me.
Does this mean a certain monosyllabically named wizard lost his book and/or died? xD
Related: Anyone know why monosyllabic is such a darn long word?

One could also consider the use of the word "short."
Why is "short" a longer word than "long?"

Yay one of two easter eggs discovered. Granted I don't expect anyone but Jek to get the other one. Rest assured if a certain monosyllabically named wizard died, his half-ork bestie wouldn't rest until he was raised.

That lance could have a lot of consequences. What does everyone else think?
Pros:
-Jek can attack morally gray targets with less hesitation
-More survivors to question
-It can be toggled off (but loses it's d6)
-It's a lance (frees up a hand, x2 "mounted" charge damage)
Cons:
-Constructs, Undead, and some other things are immune
-More survivors to manage
-Enemies will heal as much non-lethal as lethal and Jek will be doing a mix
It's objectively worse than frost as a weapon against a random opponent, but it opens up new utility options which could be worth keeping long-term so long as Delmoth doesn't mind roleplaying a small conga line of captured enemies.
Nikrir Leldro
I just realized, 4 rentals where someone copies the entire spellbook is (minus the 15gp for the book) the same as just buying the darn thing.
Renting out books is a pretty good plan...
Akrynn
You sure you want to give up cocooning?
I see its usefulness; but, being melee, he needs better AC.
Does anyone else want it? Otherwise, I will use it as trade.
Vaascht
I don't use armor, so no use for the cocooning and am just planning on using Imogens spell book for the time being until we maybe get our stuff back, else I'll have to buy/translate so I'm not going to worry about copying new spells at this time, I've got such limited casting and she's got the useful ones for level one anyway.
Nik, of course, is welcome to it for copying purposes.
We were thinking about recovering our stuff at some point, correct?
Looking at the loot sheet I probably won't have enough for a level one pearl yet, so I'll just browse for now
Nikrir Leldro
Are you sure you didn't take levels in thief, Rinika? xD
Nikrir Leldro
you and your funny spelling :P
Also, ran the numbers:
Nik will need 25 hours to copy and 375 (300 if Vaascht doesn't charge the standard rental fee) gold to decipher/study and copy 5 1st level spells (Warp Sense, Shield, Expeditious Retreat, Identify, & Ray of Enfeeblement) and 5 2nd level spells (Cat's Grace, Flaming Sphere, Levitate, Scorching Ray, & Web)
10 of those hours would just be spend deciphering spells, so if Vaascht wants to copy anything, it'd be easy for Nik to decipher spells from the other spell book while Vaascht copied from Nik's book into... Vaascht's new travelling spellbook? (Not many pages, so maybe a good choice for the short term?)
TL;DR: Can we lay low for a bit after all? Nik literally needs days to scribe everything xD
Alternatively, I could scribe fewer spells, I didn't change the loot sheet at all yet xD
Vaascht
1 person marked this as a favorite.
Since we all fought and Skellington did most of the work, Vaascht certainly wouldn't charge to copy from his borrowed spellbook. He original one? Probably.
I'm still waiting to see our plan vis a vie our stuff before I buy a new book. Imogens book has shocking grasp and shield and scorching Ray, so all the spells I'd likely use for quite some time, so I'm in no worry.
I'm making the BOLD assumption that the GM will give us some down time in the future ;)

You tell me how much downtime you're taking before you go looking for trouble and I'll tell you when things happen.
Nikrir Leldro
It wasn't a pointless check.
Now we all get to see his massive bonus and can know that sneaking past is futile :D
Jek Tal'dor
Party Jink split comes out to 726 at the moment. Since we were robbed, only Nik has personal money. People claimed anywhere from 600 to 6000 gold in loot, so splitting the Jink evenly is questionable. Then again, we're all a party, so we should probably list out what we think will help and what it'll cost. Then we can prioritize it.
Jek's armor could be 8 higher with Four mirror armor and a heavy steel shield (cheapest route). Normally the armor would be 125 gold, but since he's large and unusual it'll be 500. He already has the shield if we find our things.
3630.8 Party Gold to spend
400 and the frost longspear for Merciful Lance
500 for Large Unusual Four Mirror Armor
Akrynn's Soul and the padded armor for Spell Storing Lamellar Armor
? for Rinika's thieving hands
? for Nik and Vaascht's spell extravaganza
750 for the Wand of Infernal Healing (plus reagent cost per charge?)
Nikrir Leldro
Nik does currently have all the nice scrolls and diamond dust xD
Nikrir Leldro
@Jek: we can buy the discount Wand of Infernal Healing (with 23 charges) for... 345 probably xD
And seeing all of those high utility purchases makes me feel like I should scribe fewer spells xD
Jek Tal'dor
Updates and Suggestions
3630.8 Party Gold available (1690 in plan below - assuming we save Akrynn from himself)
Current list for Friendly Fiend:
400 and Frost Longspear for Merciful Lance
445 (or a favor from Akrynn) and padded armor for Spell Storing Lamellar Armor
345? for Wand of Infernal Healing
0 for our new spider friend (who counts as thieves' tools)
? for Nik and Vaascht's spell extravaganza
Current list for other shops:
500 for Large Unusual Four Mirror Armor
Suggestions:
Armor for Rinika?
Gear for Skellington? (much later on I'd like to suggest a vicious merciful weapon for him if the very thought doesn't get banned immediately)
Thrown weapon option for Jek?
(Need more ideas)
Akrynn
Javelins are useful for needed range.
Also, I think that price actually includes the favor....
I would suggest Wand of Cure light wounds also; as some of us can't use Infernal Wand.
Nikrir Leldro
Not a bad plan. Nik is pretty tough for a wizard though :3
For the spell 'extravaganza', perhaps I'll settle for a few fewer spells to save both time and money. Especially: I don't think I'll really need two fire blasts xD
Maybe I'll just copy Warp Sense (10gp instead of 15, thx Vaascht), Flaming Sphere (60gp) and Levitate (60gp).
It'll only take 8 hours and 130gp :D
Rinika
Rinika did put on a set of studded leather back on page 10 but I forgot to add it to the loot sheet, so she does have some walking around armor. Something with more armor and more flex like darkleaf or a mithral shirt would be cool. That brings up a good question though -
Delmoth, the cloak of shadows revelation gives me a +4 armor bonus when its active in addition to the stealth bonus. Can I invest my +1 armor bonus in that, even though it's just insubstantial and temporary shadow stuff?
Vaascht
I say spend whatever we got on making everyone as good as they can be, plus some healing wands.
Vaascht doesn't use armor and has a nice sword so the only things I'd buy would be scrolls or pearls and those can wait for the time being until everyone else gets awesomed up.
I guess if we don't get our stuff I'll need to eventually buy a new spellbook and supplies, but that can wait.
So, buy whatever you all need, I'm cool. Technically Rinlka already paid Vaascht for that last mission with a handful of grubs, so he's cool :)
DM_Delmoth
Gonna say no. The question is can you attune with cloak of shadows. If I allowed it that would set a precedent for other similar abilities like mage armor. Unless I wanted to consider it on a case by case scenario, which I don't.
I would recommend getting a shield to attune with.
Rinika
Okay, cool. If I get, say, a chain shirt, then since only one armor bonus applies, could I attune the shirt and get +5 all the time, and just ignore the armor bonus from cloak of shadows until it catches up?
