Nik would be happy to share :3
Vaascht
Yes there are certainly a few with Nik we can share once we have some time.
For whatever reason I was feeling like deciphering took a bunch of time and wouldn't work over a rest period. Of it can I'll happily roll whatever. If not, it's cool as Kensai isn't a particularly spell dependent archetype anyway.
A wand of shield, pearls of power and plenty of scrolls are what I plan to spend money on, especially now that I got this SWEET sword, though making it keen at some point will be lots of fun.
Nikrir Leldro
deciphering is an hour... but you only need to do that once :D
Deciphering isn't listed as taking time. It's probably similar to the time you'd expect it to take to read the same number of pages from a normal book :3
On the other hand, for copying you'd need an hour of extra study per spell and then 1 hour per spell level :3
Vaascht
Maybe that's what I was recalling, either way with rest and preparation I'm not sure what I'll have time to do before we set out, so if I have time I'll decipher shocking grasp and prep that twice I suppose, if we have time GM.
If you can't tell, this would bey first mage :). Always play bards or nom magicals
Nikrir Leldro
Wizards are so complicated that even though I'm usually some kind of caster, I sometimes miss things xD
Though to be fair, many of those things were also FAQ/update related...
And now the question is: should we try to go into that fortress place and look for the stolen stuff? xD
DM_Delmoth
Read magic auto deciphers a spell if you don't want to make the spellcraft check and a magus can prepare that spell without a spell book. Kensai doesn't change that fact. So long as Vaascht can devote read magic to a 0th level slot for the day you're golden. How much time you want to devote to preparing is up to you.
Vaascht
Right, that's fine.
But I don't have read magic prepared :)
I'll just go with none today.
Vaascht
As a public service announcement,y daughter has been sick and I'm running on about 2 or 3 hours a night for almost a week now, soy cognition skills aren't up to snuff.
Vaascht
decipher, read magic: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
lol, there goes my plan to just do read magic quick
decipher, Shield: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
decipher, shocking grasp: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
decipher, color spray: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Ok, so I'll just use these rolls to prepare Shield and color spray real quick. Can't attempt to decipher read magic again until tomorrow.
I think my hangup was I was conflating decipher writings one minute time with the hour per spell for learn magic spell and figured that'd be too long.

Here's a helpful quote from the Magus class page:
"Spellbooks: A magus must study his spellbook each day to prepare his spells. He cannot prepare any spell not recorded in his spellbook except for read magic, which all magi can prepare from memory."
Vaascht
Huh, how'd I miss that. I read that section like 3 times.
Then everything should be fine. Maybe next year I'll get a good night's sleep.
I should be able to take 10 my way into a spell list fine. All that for two lousy first level spells :)
Jek Tal'dor
So, someone tried to put headers into the party loot sheet, and they're right. It needed some organizational help. I've added a "Group" column. Right now it has armor, shield, weapon, treasure, and misc as the groups but this can be adjusted to make more sense as needed. I've also added filtering so that it can organize based on this without a lot of copying and pasting. So, if you've added more items to the bottom and want to reorganize it, first filter the item column by A-Z and then the group column by A-Z.

Make that 5 cause I mentioned you could do it twice.

@Jek:
*_*
edit: starry eyed in case it isn't obvious xD
Nikrir Leldro
BTW Vaascht, are you prepping Warp Sense? 'cause if not I'd like to retcon my prep to include it xD
Vaascht
I am not, I only have 2 first level spells.
Originally I had thought to prep it once we cleared this Citadel but that was before I knew of our dire time limit.

KK, I'll just retcon muh spells and turn some infernal healing into some Warp Sense :3
I'll also pretend that no one PMd me to remind me that we have Warp Sense available from Imogen's spellbook ;p
Nikrir Leldro
curtain? :3
Nikrir Leldro
while asking google I found the correct answer as well as something hilariously different xD
The more you know~!
Nikrir Leldro
but then you should be looking behind the curtain arras ;P

just to be sure:
clothing is nonliving material, and wildflower is a flavor, right? :D
(to be a huge rules lawyer: most flavors are actually smells :D)
DM_Delmoth
Most clothing is nonliving material and I'm fine with wildflower being a brand of flavor-smell.

yay!
...wait, most?

There is precedent for seemingly inanimate objects being in fact alive.
Feel free to feed me more ideas.

@Arkynn moving this over here.
Feel free to prompt each other for actions to help people remember what to do and move things along. So in the most recent instance Jek could say something like, "Jek waits for Arkynn to check for traps and then opens the door if he doesn't find any."

:D Looks like someone's a hoopy frood who really knows where their towel is.

Though I picked it up from context, Akrynn's comment immediately brought Towelie to mind.
The Hitchhiker audiobook narrated by Stephen Frye is particularly excellent, as his voice is perfect for the stoey. And all stories.
Nikrir Leldro
It was only through editing my post that I finally realized that the boards are automatically censored on page load xD
Is there a setting for that?
I once had a URL with a randomly generated string that had F**+ in it... took a while to get a working link xD
Akrynn
I typed the words and paizo did the rest...lol.
I do hope Akrynn's potty mouth isn't offensive to anyone. I thought it an appropriate response; although I will refrain if any oppose...
Vaascht
No problem here, I am un-offendable.
Rinika
Akrynn, I think you're familiar with my comfort level.
To everyone else.
Nikrir Leldro
Same
Nikrir Leldro
I forgot that we already stablished Rinika as shambler-ish, that went better than expected xD

Do wizards always have writing materials on them? I feel like the bonus spells from the class feature might include handwaiving stuff like that...
TL:DR the class feature doesn't handwave that stuff.
The wizard kit comes with an inkpen and ink but specifically calls out that the spellbook is free so not included in the kit. That said you have to buy special inks to enter a new spell into your spellbook, level up spells notwithstanding. So if you want to write notes you need inkpen, ink, and paper of some sort listed in your gear. If you want to scribe a spell into your book you need to call out that price in your gear. Something like 40gp of inks for scribing spells. This is a lot of the reasons why people don't like playing wizards because of the bookkeeping.
If Nik doesn't have ink on his gear or special inks for scribing scrolls the only entries he can make into a spellbook are the ones he gets on level up and can do no other writing. For this purpose the level up spell writing is done in the wizard's blood or something silly like that.

Giving a heads up me and my wife just had an accepted offer to buy a house. I'll try to keep up here but it may be sporadic for the next month or so while we work toward finishing the deal and then start moving, selling our current place, etc.

btw, does
... the poem lancing the Dustmen.
Refer to Rinika as a dustman?
I think she's still not a member of the dustmen, though she's probably also their queen...| DM_Delmoth |
Lol no it's a poem that's making fun of the Dustmen as a group, not any particular individual.
The Dustmen are interested in her though but she's not a member.
