Struggling with moral quandaries is such a drag!

Reign of Winter Map Carrion Hill Map

I think I'm ready to kick off the next adventure. But I do want to run those solos first.

I'm struggling with faction feats. I only did them for factions the PCs are members of and for factions that will have major reoccurring NPCs. I based them off of what's in the Factol's Manifesto. Here's what I have so far:

Athar Feats:

Athaon
Prerequisites: Athar factotum, 5th level
Benefit: You gain a +2 resistance bonus to all saving throws vs spells and spell-like abilities used by servants of a power or pantheon. May also participate in an Athar banishing ritual.

Doomguard Feats:

Sift
Prerequisites: Doomguard factotum
Benefit: The sinker can meditate on destroyed material and gain a psychic impression of what caused the destruction. The sinker must handle a piece of the physical remains, broken rubble, charred wood, ground dust, etc. Then lets the material filter through their fingers while meditating for 1 minute. A character that can cast divine spells can do this with organic material and learn the cause of death. The images are particularly vivid if the death or destruction was violent or the creature was the same alignment. The sinker sift destruction if it happened in the last 10 years. At 10th level this increases to 500 years and for every minute meditating the Sinker can see the destruction as if they were there for 5 minutes. At 15th level the Sinker can read as far back as 1000 years. At 20th level a Sinker can enter the scene of the disaster but is unable to return to their original time.

Entropic Blow
Prerequisites: Doomguard factotum, 5th level
As a vessel of entropy you can channel destructive energy dealing extra damage with a melee attack or spell. Once per day as a swift action a Sinker chooses a creature or object within sight. For one attack or spell that deals damage the Sinker gains a bonus to attack rolls equal to her charisma modifier against the target and deals an additional 2 point of damage for each character level possesed. Any damage dealt by the Sinker to the target bypasses all damage reduction, resistance, or hardness.

Dustmen Feats:

Leader of the Undead
Prerequisites: Dustmen, Initiate of the Fourth Circle (factotum)
Benefit: You gain Command Undead as a bonus feat. When on a faction mission, you can request help from a group of Dustmen undead. You must first convince your superiors you need the help and successfully command the undead.
Special: If you cannot already channel negative energy, you gain the power to channel negative energy as if you were an evil cleric of your level. However, you cannot use this ability to heal undead or harm the living, only to use the Command Undead feat.
Special: If you already have the Command Undead feat, you gain Improved Channel instead. If you already have the Command Undead and Improved Channel feat you instead gain Extra Channel.

Numb:
Prerequisites: Dustmen, Initiate of the Fourth Circle, 5th level
Benefit: You have embraced Dustmen philosophy of casting aside emotion and desires to such an extent that it’s nearly impossible for you to feel any emotion. You are immune to any spell or effect that affects emotions, such as fear effects or Hideous Laughter. You never benefit from morale bonuses.

Fated Feats:

Rogue Training
Prerequisites: Fated factotum
Benefit: Choose two skills which are class skills for Rogues. Those skills are now class skills and the Taker gains a +2 bonus to them. If the taker gains 10 ranks in the skill the bonus increases to +4

Revolutionary League:

Rogue Talent
Prerequisites: Revolutionary League factotum
Benefit: You gain one rogue talent. You must meet all of the prerequisites for this rogue talent. You can now take the Extra Rogue Talent feat.

Sleeper Agent
Prerequisites: Revolutionary League factotum, 5th level
Benefit: Once per day the Anarchist can act as if they possess a faction trait. They gain all the benefits and all of the restrictions. This ability lasts for 1 hour.

Sign of One:

Imagining
Prerequisites: Sign of One factotum
Benefit: The Signer gains the power of imagining, which can be used to bend the fabric of reality to conform to her wishes. Once per day she can cast any spell as a spell-like ability up to 4th level using her character level as her caster level. To do this she must succeed a wisdom, intelligence, or charisma check with DC equal to 10 + twice the spell level mimicked. The Singer’s character level must be sufficient to cast the spell. For example a 3rd level Signer could not imagine a Remove Disease spell, but could imagine a Cure Moderate Wounds spell.

If the Singer fails her imagination roll by 10 she must make a will save equal to the DC of the check. If she fails he becomes a shadow conjuration version of herself. A shadow creature has one-fifth the hit points of a normal creature of its kind. It has all normal abilities and weaknesses. However, the shadow creature's damage is one-fifth (20%) normal, and all special abilities that do not deal lethal damage are only 20% likely to work. (Roll for each use and each affected character separately.) Furthermore, the shadow creature's AC bonuses are just one-fifth as large.

Each day a shadow Signer can attempt a DC 18 imagining check to return fully into reality. If this check fails by 10 and she fails the will save described above she winks out of existence, effectively dead. A miracle or wish spell is required to return the Signer back to the multiverse.

1 questions about the sinker feats:
is Entropic Blow supposed to apply that bypasses all damage reduction, resistance, or hardness" to just the one attack? Or to all attacks?
related: 'and/or' is slightly better grammatically since it's technically possible to have more than one of those things ;p

also I like Sift, but I got the impression that the doomguard are more about helping things decay rather than learning about things that have decayed already. You might consider replacing it with something a Numerian Liberator gets, e.g. re-fluff (and reword, for things like class level) something like Hard Hitter from a class feature into a feat:

Hard Hitter (Ex) wrote:
At 2nd level, a Numerian liberator can make devastating attacks against objects and foes with breakable components. Damage dealt by the barbarian’s attacks ignores an amount of an object’s or creature’s hardness (if any) equal to 1/2 her class level. This ability replaces the uncanny dodge.

Then Rinika could have a choice between the 1/day super-punch and the ignore hardness always-on

The rest of the things seem good as they are ^^

Though... that Signer feat is scary o.o
PLEASE DON'T GO *POOF*, JEK! D:

Just one attack. I struggled with having it apply to all attacks vs one, or have it be an ongoing effect like smite.

Nikrir Leldro wrote:

That is a common stereotype but not necessarily unearned. There are 3 cliques within the Doomguard falling roughly along the law-chaos spectrum. One group, the one Factol Pentar favors, says make entropy go faster. One says its happening at just the right rate. The final says its happening too fast.

And remember they're philosophically committed to entropy so they'd find wisdom in experiencing destruction.

Doomguard had been kinda tempting over sticking with the Fated, but I wasn't sure how I could wedge love of distruction and entropy into the personality I wanted to play for Conor.

But if he bites it I've got an idea of a Storm Lord druid (or cleric) who will likely fit the bill.

Ah ok. Jek mentioned it was contraband but I think he might have been talking about the cache you found and not particularly the passwall scroll. In any case if you, the players, want them to be illegal by all means I'll create a footnote in some law passed 50 years ago that one Guvner knows about. And it will come up at an inopportune time but I wasn't planning on it already.

As opposed to post necromancy :D

I only suspected it would be contraband because it's hard to have any kind of security with scrolls of passwall, knock, etc. in the hands of every careful rogue with Use Magic Device. It's not like they won't get them anyway, but it's like seeing someone walk into bank with an oversized mag-drill. They're not just some eccentric hobbyist. They're not just there to make a typical withdrawal. Even if it's not illegal, someone should probably watch them. And what if you discovered such a thing on their person while arresting them for something else? Would they get it back? I don't know... I like world building and thinking about stuff like this.

Anywho, yeah, I chipped a tooth and went in for a dental appointment. I let them know that I'm on the last few coughs of a cold that started in January, and they've asked me to reschedule several weeks out. And given how these things escalate, they'll likely be closed then. Maybe I'll get it taken care of in August, or maybe I'll have a different cold. Between work and daycare, they're tough to avoid. I don't blame them. They're doing the best they can to avoid it, but it's also contagious before symptoms show and they're working in people's mouths. There's really no safe route to continue operating.

Real world comparison: where I live, last I checked (and this was more than 10 years ago), owning a set of lock picks or other devices was not illegal. Using them without permission was. So you could put a lock on your door and destroy the key and use your picks as an entry method. That said if the police pulled you over ans searched your car there would be questions. And if you had a skin color the officer didn't approve of you'd be arrested anyway.

Sigil is similar. Owning a passwall scroll isn't illegal (well it is but practically no one knows), but if Nik gets scragged he'll have to explain to a rival faction why he has it. At least he's not a teifling.

Nik has philosophical cancer, don't worry.

The funeral is an induction ceremony. They leave it to you to plan because the Dustmen are rather death positive. Obviously if Nik is from a culture that cremates a body they wouldn't expect you to jump into a furnace but would expect something that symbolizes Nik to burn.

CN Male Peri-blooded Aasimar | Necromancer 11 | HP 79/79 | AC 18, TCH 15, FF 15 | CMB 6, CMD 21 | Fort +8 Ref +9 Will +9 | Init +7, Perc +10; Darkvision 60' | Speed 30' | Spells etc | ammo 48/48(S/CI) | Conditions: Deathwatch (CL1)

Just to be clear before I write copy-paste anything, could the funeral be in the HQ somewhere?

If so, would one of the side rooms (#5) make sense? Or would the central place for Dustmen meetings (#6) make more sense?

Also, would 'cremating' a tiny stick figure make more sense? or a larger effigy of Nik? I'm thinking tiny stick man that Nik can use Spark on :3

I'm sure we could find someone happy to light Nik on fire if that's what you're looking for.

Me thinks I'm missing something.

Oh, Rinika has Vaaschts spellbook now so if there's anything in there Nik needs... won't be a charge now!

Well, maybe. Guess that's up to Rininka

Oh, you're referring to Rinika's new coloring book?

Room 5 works. 6 is specifically not used for funerals so that's a no go. Either a stick figure or larger effigy would work for cremating. Obligatory

Nik got promoted and is now planning his own funeral.
