Let em give you a little advice for what I'm looking for as far as recruiting goes. I generally categorize character into five different categories
Arcane (Sorcerers, Witches, Wizards, etc...)
Divine (Clerics, Druids, Oracles, etc...)
Melee (Fighter, Paladins, Rangers, etc...)
Skill (Bard, Rogue, Ninja, etc...)
And
Hybrid (Inquisitor, Magus, and even Bard) that don't fit quite so nicely in the above categories.
Now I usually choose one from each and then an extra depending on what I think the party may be lacking.

So the Rangers who focus on using the bow instead of the almighty Great Sword aren't a category? (Same for the Inquisitors and their cross bows.)
Rangers are melee combatants, or rather they are martial combatants. Bows and blades, though they tend to focus on one or the other. My Ranger here is a slightly modified "switch hitter" focusing on ranged attacks, the going into melee with his trusted blade.

Egads... only just posted and already 130+ posts?! With 5 days to go on recruitment?
I intend to submit a character (under this alias) ... though still working out some of the basics.
Alphonse is a ~65 year old human fighter (polearm), starting his adventuring career in his twilight years.
I do have a question regarding the Campaign Traits...
Is it ok if we rework the 'descriptive' text a bit?
In my case, in reference to the Friend of the Family trait, the description says that Niska made you make a promise on her death bed...
I'd like to rework that such that Niska made him make this promise over 50 years earlier.... forgotten until recent events... a bit of long term forecasting on her part.
(And I object to the Childhood Crush trait only allowing for Ameiko, Sandru, and Shalelu... where's Koya on that list!)

He's actually got at least 2 recruitment threads open for different games, and has staggered the closing dates.
I think said staggering was specifically to give him time to consider the selection for each without having to do both at once.
The other game (where I have applied) does not have quite the same level of aggressiveness from the hopefuls, but it is the one for which he advertised the earlier end of recruiting.
My guess is, assuming he has a "normal" work week, that he intends to make the selections for the first game during the day on Saturday and the selections for this game during the day on Sunday. But, I AM guessing.
I thought about applying for this game, but I simply had no character concept that jumped out at me for the game. As many character ideas as I normally have, if nothing comes to mind for a specific game, I don't generally try to force anything.
Mary Roseblossom |
It wasn't long before Mary was born and the first few years of her life were lived in peaceful ignorance. For even though the Roseblossom's were now accepted member of the society, no one told them of the goblin problems in the surrounding areas. Unfortunately Mary learned about it the hard way. This the account of that day a few years ago.
It was time for the annual swallowtail festival. People had gathered around from all across the surrounding lands. There was even some merchants from Magnimar who Mary's father was speaking to quite entusiastically. His conversation was along the lines of procuring an apprenticeship for his daughter. Mary and him had talked before about her joining him on a merchant trip where he could bestow upon her the family tradition. However, being past middle age, he was getting too old to travel and share the knowledge he gained with his daughter. Thus when a group of merchants agreed to take Mary on, he was delighted to share the news with his daughter.
Mary took the news well even though it broke her heart to know that her father was not going to be accompanying her on the trip. Still it was the opportunity that both of them had been hoping for. During this first meeting a large disturbance was coming from across the field. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, a goblin appeared clutching a strange looking weapon. A quick slash and the goblin was gone. Mary stood frozen in shock. Her father didn't know what happened either until he saw the blood beginning to pour out from behind Mary's hands. It was all too apparent what happened but that knowledge wasn't going to do any good. Mary was falling and would soon be gone from this world.
Out of the blue, an old woman came hurrying along. It was Koya Mvashti. Not losing her composure at all, Koya knelt down and prayed to Desna that the healing may be granted to spare this child the pain and suffereing and possible death that was closing in around her.
Through a haze Mary recognized the act that Koya performed and that act would go on to stay with her her entire life.
After Mary recovered from the gobiln attack, she agreed to her father's request and went with the Magnimar merchants. It wasn't long before the merchants noticed the distinct abilities that Mary possessed. Wether it was due to Koya's intervention or some other influence, Mary began to study merchantilism with the Abadarian priests. It wasn't long before she began to see what appeared to be unrelated incidents were actully an intricate web leading her on this path. Taking this as a sign from Abadar, she devoted herself to his cause.
Shortly after completing her training, Mary returned to Sandpoint to help her father and spread the virtues of Abadar in this small community. DUnfortunatly Mary's father contracted a disease that she could not cure. She was able to spend the last few months with him. During this time, she also would study with Koya when her father would sleep. Mary tried to learn all she could of healing from Koya. When her father did pass it was Koya who helped ease Mary's suffering.
With her father passing, Mary's mother decided to leave Sandpoint for her homeland where some of her old friends lived and could care for her. There were too many memories and she needed a fresh start. SO it was that Mary had few ties remaining to the town she grew up in and loved, Koya and her father's shop. The thoughts that pass through her mind at least once every hour are, Perhaps tomorrow will be the day that I leave and become a travelling merchant like my father. Not only would that fulfill my duty to Abadar, but that is the best honor I can bestow upon my father. Love you Dad. Hope to make you proud.
I was selected for this AP once with this character but the campaign never got past the second encounter. Mary is built for healing with channels to keep her spell slots for buffs. I am fine with not being the combat specialist and working behind the scenes.
Louise Van Andel |
Here's Louise Van Andel, from a Jade Regent which died after the first fight. He's already a 20 point build, and meets all your criteria (except he is average starting gold, not max), if there is anything that you feel needs to be changed about him, please let me know.
This is his character sheet, and this is his horse. He has the keeper of the veil and childhood crush (Ameiko) traits, I have copied his background, appearance, and personality below in spoilers.
At the age of nine, Louise's parents decided to leave his birthplace in Qadira for Varisia, where his mother claimed to have distant relatives. The plan was to travel for nearly two years by sea to reach Magnimar in Varisia before continued to Sandpoint by foot, however days before reaching the port in Magnimar, the passenger ship they were aboard was ambushed by pirates, and both of Louise's parents died protecting him, though the ship and many of the other passengers survived the assault, Louise would arrive in Magnimar heartbroken and alone. Though Louise had lost his parents only days earlier, he managed to meet up with his mother's relative who was waiting for his family in Magnimar to escort them to Sandpoint, this relative was Louise's distant cousin, Ameiko Kaijitsu. Having not known much about Louise, Ameiko assumed that he was actually a she upon their meeting, and miraculously after six years of knowing him, still hasn't figured out that he is actually male.
Ameiko helped Louise get settled down, and was there for him as he mourned the loss of his parents, however, Louise never thought of Ameiko as a relative, after all they looked nothing alike, and their common ancestor was generations deceased. Instead, Louise found himself attracted to Ameiko, maybe because she reminded him of his mother, or maybe because she just happened to be in the right place at the right time, but regardless he developed feelings for her over the years. However, the young man had to do something to keep his mind off the loss of his parents, and began to practice riding. As the young man matured, he found himself looking less and less like a man, he wouldn't even try to look like a girl on most days, and yet men would flirt with him without a second thought, thinking he a she.
Eventually, Louise would take up sword play, both in an attempt to attract Ameiko's attention, and to skirt the unwanted attention of almost every male in Sandpoint. However, these plans backfired, and the men around him were impressed with his dedication, while Ameiko seemed only supportive of his efforts. To this day, most of Sandpoint still thinks of Louise as a female rather then a male, even when he is fully armored and ready for a fight.
