Sunset
Once Sunset is happy with the amount of metal she has smeared with gunk is as much as she can reach. She returns the cloth to the barrel of grease she'd been aplying from and then proceeds to clean herself up, along with her gear.
Prestidigitation
She then wriggles out of her armor and skips over to the nearest person and begins helping them to clean up.
Prestidigitation (^_^)
"Okeys, who's up fer some magic?" She grins
WOOT! We's made 1K posts! (^_^)
Elsdyn Fedwick
"Elsdyn, we have all been summoned on this quest, and I am under the assumption that our meeting is not by chance. While we clean up our wounds and rest, I for one would like to hear whatever you would like to tell of yourself."
"I do note that your unusual quite demeanor after the battle is not the only change that has been made manifest. Your change in eye color is quite interesting. I would also like to hear about that as well, if you are willing tell us about it."
"Mine eyes have, have they." Elsdyn smiles brightly at the comment and pauses for a moment.
"A joyous ocassion it is and with them shall I start." He seems rather bubbling with the desire to talk and plows on ahead with barely a breath.
"From whence I come in the Land of the Britonians we strive not to be closer to the gods as many on these lands do, but instead we seek to follow the teachings of the Lady of the Lake. Though her name be lost to us, when the mists do touch the coast and spread out on our shores her presence is felt. Tis she who watches over the land and the king, though he has be lost from us. Though God she is not."
"It is upon rare occassion that her blessing doth touch a child of Britonia and too me was that fair blessing gifted. The mark of blue in mine eyes where others be white, a touch of the lake by her hand. To those such blessed falls the trials of the earthblood and ancient teachings like magic but not. Tis more the heart that guides than the mind and a connection with the land, but not like a druids or godly link."
"These pauldrons that float above my shoulders are such an example. They protect me from the ravishes of disease, sickness and other ills as well as granting me greater fortitude when I doth focus the blood of the land and of myself upon them. They only exists because of the strength of my heart and the power of the earthblood that flows through me and the land."
"The change to mine eyes, golden I would think, mark my passage through the trials of my youth and the blessing and acceptance of the Lady. Were I at home a celebration would be in order, but I think our survival, health and new friendship more of a celebration than I could have asked for and I thank ye all for that. Indeed, that it happened now, tis a sign that this path we trod down be one of destiny and not mere chance."
Elsdyn Fedwick
At that he pauses again then stands up and takes on a more serious demeaner. He sets his shield down and from behind he pulls out a sword, still sheathed, certainly of high quality even from a distance and holds it out in front of him.
"Uncle, that thou gave thy life that I may set foot upon this path of destiny, I shall not fail thy sacrifice."
With a smooth steady motion he pulls the sword from the sheath and holds it high point up. And in a voice filled with determination and dedication speaks.
"I shall emblazon upon my heart this destiny that thou hast made such great sacrifice. Though the trials and obstacles unknown be and mine enemies a fearsome host, know that I shall not fail thy trust placed in me. Thy courage shall be my light and thy honor the guideposts of my journey. Upon this destiny shall I carve out the fruits of thy guidance and thy spirit shall bath in the honor of my deeds. And thee the foundation of my youth, shall know no regrets and thy spirit shall rest with the valorous and they shall know thee through me. By the blessings of the Lady of the Lake and the power of the Earthblood granted me, before my comrades and thy sword. Let it be known that I, Elsdyn Fedwick, son of Count Gludoise Edwin Fedwick and Lady Esmerellda Anne Pendleton Fedwick, take up this quest and destiny with a willing heart and pledge that I shall walk this path unto its rightful and just conclusion. In the Lady’s name I so bind my oath, may her blessings guide my hand and lend insight to mine eyes.”
With that said in a surprising swift yet sure motion the sword descends and he deliberately places a cut across his palm, letting the blood spill out onto the sword. He then raises the sword point placing the bloody tip first to his forehead then to both cheeks, left then right in a smooth and continuous manner, showing no fear or concern with his actions.
Then a quick flick of the wrist sends the rest of the blood from the sword to the floor and a slow sheathing of the sword with a resounding clang as the hilt slams into place spells the apparent end to the unexpected ceremony. He puts the sword back from whence it came.
Elsdyn looks at the rest of the group and smiles, any seriousness in his look has disappeared and in its place is a smile as broad as one could expect from him, his eyes are gleaming with excitement and there is not a trace of weariness from wounds of the previous battles.
He then gets a bit of a sheepish grin and says;
“I am most embarrassed. I seem to have forgotten to bring extra rags. Does someone perhaps have a spare or two that I may wrap my hand and clean with…it wouldn’t do not to clean up proper.”
He then looks at Sunset.
“Oh a magic show, what a great way to help celebrate, please do I look forward to it.”
After cleaning up he will then sit back down at the ready with his back against the door.
Gloisil Murigel
After Elsdyn is finished speaking and performing his ceremonial display Gloisil replies, "Elsdyn, I myself am glad to hear your story. Those of us that you now have joined were also fated to take on this quest. I believe as you do that our meeting was not by chance."
And then with a slight bow towards Elsdyn, Gloisil says, "I for one will be glad to stand beside you through the trials that await us."
Gloisil then rummages through his pack, looking for one of the rags he made from his spare shirt, and hands it to Elsdyn.
"Sunset now that ye be done maintaining this ancient dwarfish machinery, let us break out that cask and use a bit of it to cleanse the wounds of our companions that still have need of healing."
"And if anyone else is in need of feeling a bit cleaner, I too can perform the same spell as Sunset just used to clean herself with."

"And if anyone else is in need of feeling a bit cleaner, I too can perform the same spell as Sunset just used to clean herself with."
With the cantrip cleaning the grease from her hands and arms, Sunset skips over to her pack and also digs around for the cask Gloisil has mentioned.
"Here ye go." She smiles cheerfully handing said item over.
Valegrim
you find a big wad of nasty grease on a stick; probably a heavy paintbrush under that much; is probably what the dwarves used; there are several around; with longer or shorter handles.
Desidera was looking for a consensus on what their current plan was, and gave a bit of a bemused smile at Sunset and her actions. Elsdyn and Galen received a questioning look from her, since she did not want to remove her things, just to have to pick them up again. As Sunset continued, she shook her head slightly and began looking around for something to help. Applying grease by hand promised messiness, and at the rate that they were acquiring injuries, an infection was something likely down here, away from the sun...
Sighing, she stopped distracting herself and looked for a better way to put grease on those sliding things, else she'd be forced to play in it.

Door opens into the hallway; you cannot lean against it from inside the room without some modification.
all these doors in this hall open into the hallway. Interestling; the doors have no visible hinges; seems like a bolt comes from the ceiling and down through the door into the floor.
Elsdyn waits for all members to enter then closes the door behind them. He sits down and lays the weight of his back against the closed door. He adjusts his sword to ensure easy access in his position and relaxes his grip on his shield though he does not take it off.
He looks around the room at the various group members. In a voice loud enough to carry through the room across the sound of machinery.
"I apologies for my recent lack of responsiveness. It seems the last fight did have an unusual affect on me, but it seems everything is well now." Those who observed his looks before, will likely notice that his eyes once green are now gold in color, though nothing else about them has changed
"That we have a bit of time now and by battle and chance have we become comrads, I shall endevor to answer any questions thee might have about me. Please speak thee freely, I shall answer as best I can and take offense at none."

got it; with you attending to wounds and injury; only a couple things seem amiss; your going to want to keep an eye on the poison; and it would be best if everyone could soak in something like salt water for hte many leisions. All the poison and mold and possible sources of infections and just the shear amount of goblin blood on everything has your concerned.
Desidera turned from her figuring of the machinery to begin stripping off her equipment and gear, breathing a bit easier once the extra weight was off of her. "Now that we have stopped", she began, "let me see your injuries." Since there was the very likely possibility of more injuries in the future, she resolved to use less of her kit this time. If they were all up and moving without much pain, then they probably would not require much attention.

lights begin to sparkle in the room in a small ball about 5 ft in front of Sunset.
voices can be heard: <keep in mind gnomes speak really really fast and have a lot lot more words; except for when Hava speaks to the group as he is used to speaking to non gnomes.
Mage Hava "Is this thing on, activate matrix 4 and 9; I can;t see nuthin bring me the Abnercrom goggle lenses #5 A and B; no visual yet; tune Resonance chamber C and E to 5.464.37., do you have it right, do it now"
gnome apprenctice#1 "The second ziconian sequence gave out master"
Mage Hava " well, gets some boys and replace it, use mount an Overwave rectifier on the new one; sequenct 105c"
Mage Hava to the party "Darn gizmo, you all hear me; there seems to be some kind of demonic interference; damnable demons. An something big; world shaking big in happening down South; all Creation is breaking loose and the fat is outta the pan an into the fire"
<wild popping noises and feedback; the image of Mage Hava, a gnome, flickers into being for a second or two; then disspears>
Mage Hava to and apprentice: "I had it for a second; the're in some infernal dwarvern machine room; lots of infernal writing an blood sacrifice; old death of the faithful; probably what is causing all the interference; why did you loose it"
Apprentice #2: "the hypersonic spacial regulator overloaded and turned the diamond array to powder; shorted out the translational overmatrix; Hobsknicker is working on it"
Mage Hava on audio only "ok boys and girls; its like this; its crunch time; cant let these gobbies get to the Ward. Seems they got some Demonic assistance. Will check back with you in an hour or three if we get this thing working; you look set; try to stay there if you can; will give you a blanket to catch some rest.
<a pulse of multicolored light comes out of the ball and all the walls begin to sparkle with very faint multihues rainbow colors; the sound and vibration, well your ability to sense it anyway; is drastically reduced in this room>
Gloisil Murigel
At the sound of his uncle's voice Gloisil responds, "Hava, we can hear you, oh there you are, or were, we saw ya for a moment."
He then listens to the rest of Hava's message. After Hava finishes, and as the multicolored lights flood the room he says, "Uncle, we will endeavor to stay where we are and get some rest as long as possible. We also look forward to your next communication although the news sounds grim."
Gloisil then notes that the noise of the machinery has greatly diminished.
Gloisil takes the cask from Sunset and offers it to Desidera saying, "I believe that this will help ward off infection in those that still have wounds."
"Elsdyn, we will probally need to organize watches while we rest since we cannot secure the door, but now need to stay to await further communication from my uncle. It appears that he has made it so that we may more easily rest in this room."
Desidera Tahn
Smiling appreciatively, Desidera took the cask from Gloisil and went about treating the wounds of those who needed it. "This will greatly help."
The lights and sounds were something that she was rather curious about, but given that one of their group seemed to know what it was, she did not dwell on it. Desidera did at least give a curious look to Sunset, wondering if she was responsible for it.
Bob Proudfoot
Bob pours some of the beer onto his hankerchief and cleans up his arrow wounds. Then asks Gloisil for a little of that cleaning magic.
I will prep a couple other hankies in case we run into that foul polluted air that we faced this morning. Was that just today?
I will prep Bob for second level this evening, hopefully and update my character info.

Sunset stands enthralled and entranced by the display. Eventually shaking her head and closing her mouth.
She goes back to using her cantrip to clean off the grease from herself, her clothes and then moves on to helping others clean the dirt, sand, blood and grime of themselves.
After a while, however, she sighs and wipes an arm across her forehead.
"Aye, but we did indeed get ourselves banged up by the fall and the gobbies an' all.." She sighs.
"So, any one got any ideas as to whut perzactly these things are...?" She calls pointing to the large (And hopefully a lot quieter) big pieces of metal that continue to move up and down.

She looks across at Desidera, "Hey, luv. Ye've missed a spot." She says, walking towards the healer.

Getting close enough, Sunset reaches out (Touch attack:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18) and plants a finger upon Desidera's nose.
*giggle*
Desidera Tahn
Desidera was honestly confused by Sunset's question, then declaration. She was still trying to figure out just what these things might be, these great metal shafts that moved up and down. When the mischielf said she missed something, she started examining herself, wondering what she missed, and where it could be. After all, if it was visible enough to be mentioned, it had to be sizable, and if it were sizable, then it had to be hard to miss, and that would be bad if she was treating someone and--
The finger on her nose made her pause, the giggle making the action suspect. Looking at the finger, then at its owner, Desidera sniffed as the smell of the grease reached her nose, and she pouted, frowning utterly unconvincingly. "I ought to retaliate with a handful of that concoction you had just marked me with.." A narrowing of her eyes promised retribution.. later. "However, would that not render your magicking you just performed useless?" She did her best to look utterly innocent as she asked that question.

"allrighty then Nephew; I will take care of it; will put a little something in the hallway; you can leave; but dont try to return; I'll put a Something in the hall, it will hang out about 8 hours or so.
We gotta take this thing down and fix it; but I kin do that at least; get rested; will try to fill you in a bit when we get this fixed; with you there I can link to you and look around a bit.

the lights end with a popping sound and the smell of burnt chemicals.
Gloisil Murigel
As the magic ends, Gloisil says, "Well it looks like my uncle has arranged for us to rest peacefully as we can. I for one need to take advantage of it."
"Yes Bob, it feels as if I've been awake for days. Not sure what time of day it is once we found ourselves underground, but I'm sure that we haven't been at this more then a day or two."
As Gloisil speaks he moves towards Bob and when he reaches him waves his hands as if brushing dirt off Bob clothing and says, "Sillafu syml."
At the sight of Sunset's prank, Gloisil has an honest to goodness smile, which looks odd on his usually dour face. Although gnomes are normally light-hearted, Gloisil is anything but the normal gnome.
"Sunset, although the gnomes are great with mechanical things, that has not been my area of study due to my greater affinity towards magic. But when my uncle contacts us again, we can ask if we have not figured it out."
Elsdyn Fedwick
Elsdyn's rather open face goes from excitement and appreciate at the initial light show, through confused and baffled then concerned as the gnome voice speaks and back again to his enthusiastic self at Gloisil recognition of the voice.
He then frowns again as he recalls his dream from a previous night here.
"All, the voice, if I understood correctly mentioned a demonic presence here. Was only a night ago that I did have a dream or perhaps vision sent by the Lady. I am afraid I have not the skill to be certain which it was. But with Gloisil's Uncles comment I think it perhaps be a sending after all."
"As I recall, the vision was deep within this stronghold. The dwarfs, ever valiant, fought many a battle against the goblins. But though many goblins would fall to a single dwarf the numbers did wear on them and with time it was obvious who the final victor would be."
"Then the vision changed and in the distance I saw a demon commanding the goblins, it would seem the goblins fearful of the dwarfs strength at arms would flee but the demon was yet more terrifying and held them steady throwing body after body of goblin against the dwarf fortification. This demon a Barghest in vision was the true enemy that needed defeated and I think what my...no our quest might be."

Sunset looks a Desidera innocently and honestly, "Um...I just wandered about cleanin' things with a teeny lil' spell. That whole light show an' stuff? That were Gnomes" Sunset finishes with her large blue eyes wide in a mixture of awe and fear.
However convincing the display, she did not particularly think that Gnomes were enough to warrant quite that reaction, so she eyed Sunset bemusedly. "Gnomes?" she inquired, giving a meaningful look to Gloisil. As a healer, she had patched up a few, not to mention the treating she had done of the gnome in their presence. Sunset made it sound like their inclinations were not entirely benign.
Sunset
At Desideras' question Sunset nods and indicates towards Gloisil.
"Oh AYE! Every one knows that Gnomes is th' true magical power in th' world!" She exclaims. "There's tales an' stories galore of th' things they can do." She steps over and folds down in front of Gloisil.
"Why, it wouldn't surprise me if Gloisisl here were holding back in th' fight with the gobbies, afeared that if he got too riled up he might blow the roof of'n this place."

Taking off his pack and sitting next to Sunset, Gloisil replies, "Sunset, you greatly over estimate what I can do in the realm of the arcane arts, but you are correct when it is applied to others such as my uncle."
"I am a relative beginner in my study of magic, but already on this quest I am feeling that my skills are increasing. Although, A few of my spells do cover a large area, and I do need to be careful to not catch my friends in them. With time and practice I am sure that we will find better ways to work as a team."
"Let me see if I can remember a tale that one of my uncles may have told me, but be warned, I am no bard."

We must find this demon and destroy it!
Sunset looks to Galen,
"Aye, there is indeed that. T'is better th' criter be sent packin' back t' th' hells that spawned it, but first we's got t' rest, ready ourselves and prepare." Then she reaches out and hugs Gloisil.
"Oh, I know that,I wus jus' tryin' t' help yer reputation along, is all." She grins impishly at the Gnome, while ruffling his hair with one hand. "So! Lets here yer tale then, luv. I'm sure ye've enough talent ' entertain every one."
Um, the room has gotten quieter after all that work with th' grease?
Valegrim
due to the grease; not really as this is a enormous machine and hasnt been maintained in perhaps decades. Gloisels Uncles spell has dampened the sound quite a bit; also that of your voices so you must speak louder to be heard normally; seems the louder the sound; the more it is dampened; so speaking in hushed voices is normal.

"No need for us to wait 'til daylight while we are in the depths of the earth. I for one can't tell if the sun is up or down here."
"I say that we get what rest we need, and then move on. Hopefully we will hear from my uncle again before we leave. Though, I think that we should not wait until we hear from him, but act on the information that he was able to impart if we are ready to go."
Desidera Tahn
"--I can," Desidera looked a bit uncertain. "Tell when the sun is up or down, that is", she clarified. At the looks she got, she mustered a small smile and shook her hair, reaching back with her hand to bring the golden lyre into prominence by way of illustration. "Part of training." She had not yet gotten around to wiping her nose, so that fingerprint of grease from Sunset's morale boost was still there.
"I cannot regain my spells until sunrise", at that, she cast a look up at the hewn rock of their current room, "but I do have two left over. We have no berries, so one spell will not be of much use during our rest. I can heal with it, if anyone is in dire need, and I can ward someone against Evil, if need be." None of them should have been in dire need, that she could recall.
Thankfully, Sunset's magical attentions rendered her clean, save for the spot of grease which came later, so her armor and clothes were pleasant enough to wear again. She moved back to her pack and started to detach her bedroll, now that they were set to stay and rest for a while.
Sunset
Chattering away to Gloisil, Sunset looks over to where Desidera is settling in for the night. Sunset unfolds, stands and walks over to the other woman.
"Here, let me help ye." And she sets about doing so. After a few brief moments Sunset sighs.
"Sorry I am fer that little thing." She says quietly. "It just...ye seemed a mite worn by whut we've been through an' I wus hopin' it'd buck ye up some." Sunset smiles, though there is a timidness to her now. She pulls at the helm of her shirt and cleans the grease off Desideras' face with it.
Desidera Tahn
Sunset's smile earned a similar one from Desidera, who appreciated the help, though it was not absolutely necessary. Her bedroll unrolled, she set about smoothing nonexistent particles from it. That attempt was short-lived, and she finally settled on her bedroll, looking disquieted. "Maybe I am tired, dreaming.." A tiny laugh follows her quiet words, brushing hysteria. "We have air, but no space, no sun-- and we have only begun."
Trusting someone to wake her if she was due for a watch, she laid down, curling up slightly, and closed her eyes. Perhaps if she tried hard enough, she would be able to ignore the rock surrounding them, ignore that growing urge to scream, claw at the walls until she found sky.
Valegrim
Some things you may wish to consider:
you are settling in for the afternoon; not night
goblins are generally nocturnal; so more active at night, which you can translate into more patrols, scavengers, raiders; ect
anyone over 300 years old and older has fairly accurate time sense.
The once per day restoration of spells is in effect regardless of how many times you rest though the time of restoration may vary; so some dieties reset morning; some at noon; some at night; ect. A mage can pick his time as long as it is always that time every day.
________________
are there any activities anyone wishes to do during this time; or should advance time increments?
Gloisil Murigel
"Well then, if it is only afternoon, I still have awhile until I can regain my magic as well. I do still have a few minor magics that I could use, and I have my wand."
"I suggest that we eat something while we wait for my uncle to communicate with us again. If we don't hear from him soon, then we move on until it is time to rest for the 'night'."
Sunset
Nodding at Gloisils' words, Sunset hops up, with a friendly pat on Desidras' shoulder, and begins helping out with setting up a small camp space.
Working on using things to hand in the room so as to have a campfire and such so that there will be a small amount of light, warmth and cheer in the room. As well as something to warm their rations with.
Valegrim
ok; the party takes a leisurely rest; works out some cramped muscles; eats a meal; makes some repairs <presumably> on stuff damaged from the several melees.
smoke from the campfire seems to go up into the holes of the giant pistons in the room; there is positive air flow so the room doesnt fill with smoke.
Desidera keeps vigil on everyones wounds and changes bandages as needed.
Valegrim
After about an hour; the party is suddenly shocked by the vast noise of the long roar of an immense dragon right outside the door and the barely audible squeel of a group of goblins followed by dread silence; only the sound of the pounding pistons to compete with the pounding of your hearts in your chests.

(O_o)
Sunset quickly does some mental calculations based on what she remembers of the size of the corridor outside.
"Um...that wus probably jus' somat playin' tricks...yeah...th' tricksy Fey whut's about..." She tries to put a brave face on show for her companions.

Wide-eyed with fear, Desidera was stitting bolt upright on her bedroll where she had fallen asleep, much to her surprise. When there is no further noise, she starts to calm down, looking at everyone to see what their reactions were. Her heart had felt like it was trying to beat its way out of her chest.
Once her brain stopped trying to get her to flee-- not that there was anywhere to run-- she looked to Gloisil to see if he had any explanation.
Gloisil Murigel
"Now that I've had a moment to think back on my Uncle Hava's message, he may not have meant for us to stay here until we heard from him, but for us to continue exploring while the magic that he left outside the door covered our backs, so to speak."
"I now think that once we get cleaned up and have a bite to eat, we may want to move along and my uncle will contact us when he can. What does everyone else say we do?"
Elsdyn Fedwick
"Whether friend or foe, I think it wise to be cautious at this point. Goblins too are known for their tricks. I will back you up Sir Galen. If the way is safe, I agree with thy assements Gloisil and think we should not tarry too long here."
Sword and shield in hand at the ready waiting on Sir Galen's next move.
Sunset
Having not really unpacked yet, Sunset helps every one else gather their things. She looks around the room.
"Here's a thought." She says rather enigmatically as she wanders over to the barrels. and begins to tap their lids.
Just a question or two. The barrels? How many are there? Do they all, some or none have lids? Are the lids 'tight' fitting? Roughly how big are the barrels?
"Does any one thing takin' one or two o' these would come in handy fer somat?" she asks, indicating the barrels of grease.
