I'll have my character submitted shortly, but can I ask about the rules for precast spells? Can you come in with active spell effects? If so is there a duration that works, like say hour per level spells are permitted, round per level are not, etc.?

Also are mounted characters permitted to begin mounted? I can see spirited charge in the surprise round winning a lot of combats if they are.
As Avenath said, you can't start mounted. Bruno provoked this rule in testing by "charge-splat"ing several characters. Companions now start to the character's left.

Avenath, I don't believe those bits actually made it into the final rules post (I'll update before I post fights).
No characters may begin mounted, and though a character can conceivably mount in a surprise round, a large mount will be unable to charge past a pillar without first moving. There is technically no restriction on what you may cast on yourself pre-combat, there is simply a 23 hour period before the start of combat in which you may not buff in any way, so if you can manage to make something last 23 hours and 1 minute, it will be active for the first ten rounds of combat.

I just got Rolg (re-re)submitted after the small Trait change. I'll get his description updated as well.
Looking forward to the fights. :D
And I pretty much want to hurt you all... regardless of gender... I"m an equal-opportunity hurter.
Esmeralda wants to have a mouthful of you.
And Bruno's lance recently confided in me that it has dreams taking your Insides out on the town one night.

Esmeralda wants to have a mouthful of you.
And Bruno's lance recently confided in me that it has dreams taking your Insides out on the town one night.
This is both awkward AND awesome! :D
Interestingly enough, I was just having a chat with Rolg where Bruno's name came up.
... unfortunately, I don't speak Dwarven.

Alright. I apologize for accidentally having a life last night, I assure you all I wasn't trying to. We have our first pairings. I'll be setting up eight pits initially, so the next two fully accepted entrants will be able to jump right in against one another. If you sent in a character and were not given a message asking you to change anything, but are not on the below list, please let me know as soon as you read this.
Pit One: Vironus vs. Elinora
Pit Two: Kailin vs. Falcon
Pit Three: Rolg vs. Johnny
Pit Four: Liane vs. Bruno
Pit Five: Gnasher vs. Shigeharu
Pit Six: Vatale vs. Gin
Pit Seven: Durgrosh vs. Zouh
Pit Eight: Trihedron vs. ???
I'm putting the out of combat gameplay thread up now, so you can spend some quality time with your opponents before the Pits themselves are ready for you.
The Pits will be going up all at once, but since they are permanent fixtures I'd like to do them justice. I've got a few errands to do, and they shall be going up after that.

Elinora |

Alright Eli, we use this thread for our gameplay I think. Will probably get killed before I can even reach you lol.
Edit: Let's just make a new one. Also, gonna be harder from my phone. Net's been cut off for some reason.
I think we have to wait until he creates the pit threads, don't we?

Master of the Pits |

Thanks for checking in, Lieahsel. I found you in the depths of the PMs :D
Sorry for all of these delays and such, this got even more attention than I was expecting in its first few days, so checking through all of the characters and making sure nobody and nothing is left out is a hefty sort of chore.

3 people marked this as a favorite. |

In the interest of getting something up, here are the pits:
One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight.
I will not have the necessary arbitrating materials (my laptop) until around Sunday afternoon. I've run a number of busy and fun things these past few days.
I may update these pits soon, giving them some sort of description, but let's see how this goes.
BASHA, I apologize for the fact that you are not currently in a fight (and that I announced all of the names in capitals making yours seem less impressive). You're up next against the next person to fully submit a character, I'm trying to stick with eight pits for now.

Okay, stuff to ask about.
Alright, I'm a bit unsure of the rolling here, as there was a discussion previously involving something along these lines. I'll get into more detail on that in the actual discussion thread, so for now I'll just give the numbers as I think they make sense.
.
Sunahl's got 15 to hit (Flanking bonuses already applied, though this still seems unlikely to hit), but if it does, 7 damage, and a CMB check of 30 to initiate a grapple. Kailin's got 25 to hit, with 11 damage if it does.
I recall we had a discussion from the practice arena on the dice rolling system, and that dice should be rolled exactly as you would make them, and so I try to do that (well, I did beforehand too, as it makes the most sense to me, but that's neither here not there).
Now the problem here is that this can change depending on whether or not something is a hit or isn't.
In the above scenario, Sunahl rolled a d20 for the grapple check (which I had written in from the start, just to have everything done). As I said, I think it unlikely to hit though, which would mean the free grapple does not happen, and the d20 that Kailin rolls for his attack after that attempt would actually be the result of the grapple's d20 instead, if we did the fixing up and such.
Now, I'm personally a fan of rolling all the possibilities in order, and leaving them as they are once done. I feel it eliminates confusion on contingent actions (as the grab, above) and subsequently keeps from needing to periodically correct things, as well as keeps things running more smoothly for the same reasons (not needing to verify/fix things).
However, since it was brought up before, I figured I would ask about it again. In this case, I left the results as:
Sunahl's Attack (Die #1)
Grapple Attempt (Die #2)
Kailin's Attack (Die #3)
Should it have instead been:
Sunahl's Attack (Die#1)
Grapple Attempt turns into Kailin's Attack (Die #2)
Ignore/Remove this roll which originally was Kailin's Attack (Die #3)
Like I said, I prefer the former, since I don't need to find out whether or not the first attack is a success and/or need to make alterations. As is, removing it based on my assumption that it probably would miss might be incorrect, and waiting until after I hear whether it did or not would mean waiting for my opponent to answer and then further going back to suggest what the alterations would be.
...But if we want to go with the latter, I'll oblige, and just keep the facepalm and/or evil-thought-sending to a minimum <_<
Similarly, Crit threats generate the same question. My practice in the old games had been:
Roll Attack (Die #1)
Roll Another Attack (Die #2)
-If 1 or 2 is a crit threat: Roll Confirm (Die #3)
I personally prefer that instead of doing:
Roll Attack (Die #1)
-If 1 is a crit threat: Change to Crit Confirm (Die #2)
Add in dice for next Attack (Die #3)
Admittedly, this is less problematic than the other case though, since you can see crit threats on your own, rather than needing to hear from the opponents. Still seems needlessly complex to me, but YMMV.
So... what do we do here?
