The Jade Goblin Adventure Path

Game Master Loup Blanc

This is an epic journey that will determine the fate... of GOBLINS! Can they even survive this journey?

The only archetype I was looking at was Knight of the Sepulcher, if it didn't throw too much of a kink in the plans. It's not a racial, though. It's one for anti-paladin.

I would have taken the Goblin Weapons, except that I'm not automatically proficient with them. To get the ability to use Goblin Weapons I need to take a Racial Trait that replaces the racial Skilled ability. I'ed rather keep Skilled as it gives me a +4 bonus to my Ride Checks and as a Cavalier I need as high a ride check as I can get. As for having the small weapons, I could just say I robbed them off some Halfing Cavalier that my character killed in a fight if you need an excuse. As for a Goblin Dog, I'ed take it as a mount if you'ed let me. It makes more sense for a Goblin after all. Except that I don't think Goblin Dog works as a mount as its Small Sized. Mounts have to be 1 Size category larger than the rider. I might just stick with the wolf as it will be able to hold my weight.

Fluff coming after some food! Must eats!

Don't quote me on this but I think goblin dog mounts may be in the animal book that came out not to long ago.

Edit: Oh sorry that wouldn't work till 4th. But I'm sure Arms can set us up with gobo doggy goodness.

ShadowyFox: Knight of the Sepulcher should be fine. An undead bugbear... Hm... Creepy points!

Garm: How are you not proficient with the dogslicer and horsechopper? They're both martial weapons, and as a cavalier you should be able to use them. However, see below...

kdtompos/Gniffles:
Nice, I like it. Technically, you wouldn't be allowed to take Extra Hex since you haven't really gotten one yet, but I don't mind. Just a heads-up if you try the Scarred Witch Doctor elsewhere. I look forward to the fluff, but look below...

CURRENT SUBMISSIONS
Edited for the fine fella who posted 4 seconds (count 'em!) after me.
Kor--Spug Deatheater, Goblin Cleric (Chief's Left Hand)
Havocprince--Um Horsecutta, Goblin Monk [Zen Archer] (Scribbleface's Assistant)
Dorian--Tindertwig, Goblin Alchemist (Sandpoint Skulk)
Sersi--Ziki Fireburner, Goblin Magus (Scribbleface's Assistant)
Krash--Zoog, Goblin Alchemist (Sandpoint Skulk)
Forthepie--Gmerok Stoneshredder, Goblin Bard (Student of Vorka)
Dark Netwerk--Zord Manslicer, Goblin Inquisitor (Goblin Warrior)
Darkfire--Garm Rantblade, Goblin Cavalier (Goblin Warrior?)
kdtompos--Gniffles, Goblin Witch (Student of Vorka)
Proioxis--Marrowdown, Goblin Barbarian (Goblin Warrior)

Breakdown of Campaign Trait Choices
Bigbad Bugbear: 1? (Submission in the works)
Chief's Left Hand: 1
Chippers' Bud: 0
Goblin Warrior: 2 (3?)
Sandpoint Skulk: 2
Scribbleface's Assistant: 2
Student of Vorka: 2

Alas, we've already reached the point where I cannot accept everyone. However, I'll leave recruitment open for the rest of today at the least. We'll see what we have this evening.

Also, keep in mind that even if you're not chosen here, I will almost definitely run this again in the future. In fact, I already have plans to keep a tally (whether privately or somewhere on the forum) of deaths and how far a given group got before everyone died. Of course, you may make it to the end--good job if you do!

Finished up my character. Went with the Barbarian, as it turns out. Marrowdown, the Feral Gnasher! Good at biting, gnashing, chewing - whatever you need.

Edit: Er, and just in time, it seems!

Marrowdown:

Looks good! Like the crunch, like the fluff. Strong submission.

On Goblin Dog Mounts
THEY ALREADY EXIST! Huzzah!
Edit: Except that it starts out at Medium size, and at 4th level, it gets +1 natural armor, +2 Strength, and +4 Constitution.

Ooh, you're right. It hadn't occured to me that in replacing that first hex, Gniffles wouldn't pass the requisite "hex class feature".

Ah ok, I thought Dogslicers and Horsechoppers were Exotic Weapons, my bad. Still, I don't like the fact Dogslicers break when you use them. I'll just stick with a Small Sized longsword for now as that does the same damage and does not break when you roll a 1. Generally any unusual gear I have is stuff I've looted off the Halfling Cavalier I killed, they're basically halfling weapons I collected hence why my character can use them (As they're martial weapons). Good to hear about the Goblin Dog, I'll change it on my sheet.

If I am chosen, (and Zoog fanatically prays to Zarmongel that he is), I would be willing to change my trait to Chipper's Bud if the other guy that took Sandpoint Skulk is also chosen.

Fluff:
Gmerok Stoneshredder spent a few weeks with Vorka trying to learn to be a druid or whatever Vorka claims to be. Sadly, his attunement to nature was hindered by the fact he kept singing and chanting and finally Vorka had enough and sent him away. He still learned a few things about magic and the like, but not enough to learn all the druidic ways.

Gmerok soon learned that his songs, while horrible to longshank's ears, inspired his goblin friends. He became quite proficient with a simple shortbow which he found in the dump outside of Sandpoint. The bow was probably some child's and was dumped when the child outgrew the bow. In addition to the bow, he carries a club, which is basically a stick he found in the woods one day.

Near the bow, Gmerok found his lucky pet toad, whom he named Clubfoot, because well, he's got a club foot. He doesn't jump much and is content to ride on Gmerok. Since Gmerok keeps him fed with flies and other bugs, he's got a pretty good life.

Gmerok has a high pitched, nasally and whiney voice. His singing voice is not any better and sounds like a cat being run over by a wagon. But, his goblin companions seem to enjoy it.

One oddity of Gmerok is that he speaks and understands Common quite well. Gmerok doesn't like to talk about it, but it's rumored that Vorka got mad at one of his songs one day and cast a permanent Tongues spell on him, that didn't go exactly as planned. Or perhaps he spent enough time at the dump and listened to the longshanks talk so much, he just picked it up.

"Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly." ~ Morticia Adams

Lucky Toad!:
Patches: Gniffles' toad, Patches, is a far cry from what it once was. The bloated, blue creature is covered in suchers where it has been dismembered and repaired. Two of the legs are different colors, one of the eyes is glass, and none of the limbs really work as they're stuffed with sand and cotton rather than bones or muscle tissue. Patches isn't in pain, however, as Gniffles has detached any nerves that would alert it's brain of such things. He functions as a sort of voodoo doll for the goblin witch.

Oh, and when you lick him, your brain tickles with an itch you can't scratch... because it's in your skull.

Fluff:
Appearance:
Gniffles wears tattered silk robes that at one point were dyed a vibrant white and deep purple. Mud and blood have tarnished most of the robe now, creating an appearance of dirty bone. His beady, purple eyes are surrounded with dark rings and sunken into his skull above his massive, thin lipped mouth. His body is also marked with inky tattoos, that snake about his arms, legs, and torso. The only particularly pronounced tattoo is on his right shoulder, depicting a large eye with a skull deep inside the pupil.

He carries a large, gnarled staff of black and white Aspen wood, which dangles feathers, colorful stones, and small skulls and bones gathered from the swamp. His most distinguishing feature however, is the grisly mask that adorns his face.

Almost matching the size of his body (which isn't entirely unheard of with Goblin-sized heads), this wooden mask resembles an immense exaggerated skull. The headgear is mostly black and white, with the black edges of the mouth curling in upon themselves at their tips amongst the cheekbones, and fist-sized eye sockets that suggest an impossible depth. The eye-sockets, however, are adorned with vibrant, colorful patterns. In fact, the entire mask has swirls and patterns etched into the surface, made to leap off of the mask with rich and various dyes, flitting between the contrast of the prevalent black and white. Think Candy Skulls associated with Dia De Los Muertos

Background:
Gniffles was an unfortunate, but not uncommon, child death. Goblin children die, which is not something to grieve as such an obviously weak creature wouldn't have helped the tribe anyway.

The destroyed cages were discovered with the morning light, and it was obvious from the claw marks on the remnants of the cage, and the tracks in the mud, that whatever devoured them was an extremely large bird. The pools of blood held some of the remains of the previous nights' meal, but no surviving goblins from that particular cage could be found. It seems that the creature found enough sustenance to keep from massacring a second or third cage, but not enough to leave any behind. The Licktoad tribe decided that it might be worth looking into a way to shield the cages from above, as well as the pallisades they had erected to surround it. They didn't.

Gniffles (who at that point had no name... as what's the point in naming something so likely to die?) did not perish that evening. As the monstrous owl devoured most of the cage, it eventually grew full, and flew off with the two remaining 'survivors' of that pen. Sluggish and prideful from it's own conquest that evening, it quickly fell prey to what is commonly deemed 'the circle of life'. A goblin witch, who had lived in the swamps for quite a while, had recently discovered the owl's nest and set an ambush for the returning predator.

Vorka found the owl 'Delicious', and very similar to 'Owlbear' apparently. The eggs were likely also quite good.

Only one of the goblins it had brought back to it's nest still had much life in it, as the other was punctured rather deeply with one of the talons. Vorka brought them both back to devour should she run out of owl and eggs.

Vorka is quite absent-minded, however, and simply forgot about the young goblins she tied up behind her hut. The one that perished served as food for the other as he worked to free himself. A week later he had chewed through the ropes and escaped to the swamp, and eventually back to the Licktoads.

As many suspect, there are dark things in this world, and the forces that act upon a parcel of land tainted with the presence of a witch are devious as well as powerful. Gniffles encountered something... someone... that week as he struggled to free himself. It spoke to him through the skull of his perished friend, and shared with him sinister things. The mask that he wears is an omage to whatever, whomever, encountered him there.

Also, I swapped the trait Wolf Cup (Zarongel) out for Eat Anything, as it fit the background of pseudo cannibalism much better.

And let me know if you'd prefer I take a trait other than Extra Hex, as you're correct that I don't qualify for it anymore at first level.

Alright, fluff for both Gmerok and Gniffles looks good (although Gniffles, I gotta say... very creepy and fitting).

Garm: I forgot to say above, because I ended up changing my mind about something, that if you want to grab the Chippers' Bud campaign trait, you can change the drive bonus to a Ride check bonus.

Zoog: If you want to do that, you can, or if Garm gets in or you don't want to, you don't need to change it. Thanks for the offer, though!

Recruitment is still open! Primarily for the bugbear who should be incoming and any hobgoblins.

Thx GM....I plan on doing some more once I get home from dinner. I really like the Goblin Alchemist idea and thought the 'roguish' cryptbreaker was fitting....let me know if u really need me to change it....thx

Yeah, it came out much darker than I intended, as goblins are supposed to be pretty humorous. He'll have a lot of that ridiculousness in spades, but I wanted to set up a dark side first.

Goblins are also be horrible as well. Considering their willingness to eat other sapients and atsome points each other. Never forget under the chaos is a truly vile evil scourge. If goblins were just a bit faster stronger and smarter then there would be nothing left as they would have eaten the world.

Dorian:

The vivisectionist also has some roguishness about it, with sneak attack and such. Combine that with goblins' natural stealthiness and you could make a pretty nice rogue-type character, with extracts and mutagen for extra fun. But, whatever you wanna do. I'm just suggesting changing from crypt breaker because it isn't optimal for the adventure and I want you to have fun and feel effective.

Gniffles: don't worry, they're supposed to be dark and humorous at the same time. Heck, way back in RotRL there was an encounter where a goblin was half-through eating a human man. They're disturbing little buggers (and that's why we love 'em!)

GM, I was wondering if you had thoughts of an appropriate deity for this fine, upstanding bugbear?

"Moxxie has awesome story to tell. Moxxie find great big bugbear (or Hobgoblin if Shadowfox has the bugbear slot) in forest. Make pet Moxxie did. Big oaf dumb bugbear charge Moxxie but Moxxie scare it with fire, cause that what Moxxie always do. Big dumb bugbear growl angry at me and I growl back. Moxxie ain't no afraid of big dumb bugbear. Moxxie ask name, bugbear say "ugnh". Moxxie ask again, bugbear say "ugnh" again.
"Come with me, you Moxxie's new pet, or I burn you." Moxxie takes bugbear home and talks to bugbear, bugbear just grunt. Grunty is bugbears name, now. Grunty is all Moxxie's... and Chief Gutwad's too. Moxxie no like sharing with Chief gutwad. But Chief Gutwad like Grunty, He says Grunty is big and scary. Scares off longshanks from licktoad tribe, especially when angry. Grunty super scary when angry, he gets ferocious and hits everything, but his shiny calms him down. Shhhhh don't tell secret to anyone. Only Moxxie knows Grunty's shiny. Chief Gutface don't even know Grunty's shiny. But Moxxie is careful, if Grunty gets angry and hurts other licktoads, Moxxie in trouble."

He is crunched as a bugbear, but could just as easily be a hobgoblin. Let me know if you want me to change the crunch. I won't be able to do so until tomorrow. Already a bit behind on work atm, so can't spend anymore time on it.

"Hunhg-hmmmm," grumbles Grunty glaring at all the little puny goblins. "grrrrr-snort" Grunty bears his fangs to look more scary.

GM: I believe I have Spug completed now. Please let me know if I am missing anything. I made a few tweaks to the crunch and added some goblin gear.

Do we get to eat those not chosen? Of course, assuming I get picked. If I don't get picked, I'll eat the victors!

Kor: I am so happy to see a Venklevore!

[/spoiler=Tindertwig has been reckless of late. He and Dirtbag--his lucky toad--have traveled into Sandpoint to spy upon the Longshanks.
They have been skulking around late at night, sneaking into the brewer's shop, tasting his sweet, thick drinks. While nosing about, Tindertwig and Dirtbag came across a small shed-shack with funny colored smoke rising up into the night air.
With a little prodding from Dirtbag, Tindertwig quietly makes his way over to the place, peaking through a crack in the back wall while squeezed in between some barrels and sacks. He sees some old Longshanks in a blackened apron, handling many glass bottles and vials with different colored liquids contained within.
Tindertwig watches with fascination as the old Longshanks mixes these things together, producing many-colored smoke!
This goes on for awhile until Tindertwig decides to steal some liquids to make his own smoke.
It takes many days of convincing by Dirtbag until finally Tindertwig sneaks into the shack to take some vials.
He immediately runs until he is sure the whole town is on him....and then he runs some more, cursing Dirtbag the whole time.
After an hour of running, they stop and hide under a clump of bushes.
He takes out the vials, gazing at them until his vision blurs and he suddenly trips and both vials spring up into the air.
Screaming and cursing, Tindertwig watches in horrid fascination as the two vials fell and bounce off the bush and clink together.
The liquids spill out, mixing onto the bush, causing a hissing sound to appear. The bush was....melting!
Tindertwig looked at Dirtbag and grinned. Jackpot!]/spoiler...Short history

ShadowyFox: Lamashtu's always a good choice, as are any of the Goblin Hero-Gods. You may want to work out with TieMyShoelace who wants to be a bugbear though, unless you want to go into competition.

TieMyShoelace/Grunty:

Haha, great fluff and crunch. Grunty is going to be one heck of a monster in combat... This whole party is really gonna make me work to meet their capabilities! You may want to work with ShadowyFox on who wants a bugbear and who wants a hobgoblin, though.

Anderlorn: Still accepting submissions, at least for right now--I may well call it tomorrow or Friday (as of Eastern U.S. Time). However, I don't think I want to deal with psionics in this game, so I'm going to say no to that archetype.

Kor/Spug: Looks good.

Gmerok: No, you may not eat the unchosen, they might be around for a second run when your cold dead body is lying in a pit somewhere ;)

Dorian/Tindertwig: Nice fluff. Have you decided to change your crunch, or no? Up to you.

We're up to 11 submissions and more in the works; recruitment is still open!

Working on a Ranger (Trapper) idea....but it just doesn't 'feel' as good....I definitely want trapfinding...also I read the thread u posted but I still haven't figured out how to do the fancy posting stuff yet....and crunch?...need to learn the lingo too....lol

It's psionics very lite, however that's cool! How about a Pistolero?

For different tags, just open the "How to Format Text" thing below the box and you can even copy-paste and replace relevant material. Remember, basic formatting is [tag]text[/tag].

Crunch is the mechanics or statistics of a character, the numbers. Fluff is roleplaying goodness, like backstory and personality.

Anderlorn: I know it's light on the psionics, but I'd still rather keep them out altogether--I figure we have enough going on with the whole, ahem, goblin thing. As for a Pistolero, I'll accept it, but full disclosure--there isn't a ton of support for gunslingers in the campaign. Not to say I can't add in some treasure for you.

ok new build is up above...I edited it after I realized I forgot to press submit....really I DO know how to GAME....lol...thx Mr. GM sir

Zurk gonna rip you all to bits, for the glory of his Hungry Lady!

This is ShadowyFox's bugbear, btw. I'm not sure the crunch or fluff are strong enough, but I'd like to put my hat in the ring for this one. Bad storms are not the friend of gamers.

Forgot Zord's toad! Bloodgulper has been added, along with some more equipment.

Sznek mighty warrior love to join. Sznek mighty warrior is level 5 with 15 point buy here. Longshank will look and make Sznek all crunchy for you. Then Longshank change background to licktoad. Then you say Sznek is mighty warrior of licktoad and must join caravan if not...

Remember one day Sznek will be chief of Licktoad tribe. So if you not pick him for game goblins will come to your house and eat your children! Last GM stopped posting to game after two weeks. He tasted good! Be warned!

Alright, at this point, RECRUITMENT IS CLOSED TO NEW SUBMISSIONS. If you've already posted in this thread to express interest, then you have until approximately 10:00 PM Eastern Time (3:00 AM GMT) to update/finish your submissions. If you have strong fluff without full crunch, I will still accept a submission, but the more complete your character is, the better.

Thanks, everybody!

Ahh smart GM thinking of his babies he is, closing submission once Sznek come to town always good idea! Sznek fluff now updated, but not his crunchiness. I get my whip and tell longshank now to do it or I eat his babies tonight at 3 AM GMT.

Awwww did I really miss this by 1 HOUR??? D: I love goblins, and have been trying to get into a goblin game forever. If you are willing to accept one more applicant, I can throw something together real quick, and it shouldnt be half shabby either :D
Well Ill build him up, you can always say no, I am to late, but on the off chance...

Updated Sznek's crunch. As you might have seen earlier he'll become a dex based natural weapon barbarian. Currently he's still a bit sucky but once he has access to claws and improved weapon finesse he'll kick ass real good. Currently his best plan is prolly to wield the horsechopper two handed and use normal rage to fight with 18 strength.

Zoog laughs maniacally at the thought of being able to play in this campaign. "Zoog make things go boom real soon!"

"Moxxie feel stoopid, Moxxie was wrong. Moxxie almost never wrong, see Zurk REAL Big Bad Bugbear, Grunty not Big dumb bugbear, Huge Dumb Hobgoblin Grunty is. Moxxie show you right now but Grunty with Chipper. Grunty protect caravan good, likes Chipper a lot. Grunty not get angry at Chipper ever, laughs sometimes. Chipper loves Grunty lots, no longshanks attack wagon while Grunty there, except once, then there was no more longshank. You see, you see, Grunty really big hobgoblin when he come back, Zurk real bugbear."

Ah, I'll allow this window. New submissions are allowed until 10:00 PM EDT TONIGHT (3:00 AM tomorrow GMT), at which time recruitment closes for everyone.

"Here is FLAPPY!!!"

"I is the biggest Gobo around herez sos you lot gotsa listin to me an let me in onna yous advntr here! I is a full 3 feetz! well, 2 feetz, ten-an-one not feetz... What! I is not the biggest? Well Ize has tha biggest Toad! Ha! Now youse has to lets me in or Gnobblar eats you up he will!"
In case you cant speak gibberish, He is saying that this is Gobo Hordes alias and I hope you would be so kind as to let me be in the running :)

Flappy is a lover of noize and has covered himself with many small noizemakers and bells and rings and anything else he can find that make noise. I think he even has a squirrel pinned to him somewhere...
Gnoblar, his toad is the biggest one to be found in the Toadlick Tribe, a great honor and prestige! Gnoblar is also as thick as a brick and barely even qualifies for animal intelligence. He has slow reactions but is capable of moving fast once he gets moving, he makes for a great mount for Flappy. HIs favoured tactic in combat is to leap at the target and ensnare him with his tongue, then sit there like a brick waiting for someone else to deal with whatever he has captured, or just simply eat it :)

"Enoughs wit tha yakn! We needz Music!!! Quick! Gmerok get something banging! I wants to sing!!!"

Edit: Thanks :) I managed to get him all finished up within the last 4 or so hours, all I have to do really is give him a feat and items and lots of bells XD

Splendid, I was hoping you'd give Gobo Hordes the chance. I hate seeing Goblin enthusiasts miss these opportunities. Plus, if this is going to have a horde of the best gobbos ever, we want to be sure we're thorough!

Gmerok stares at Flappy for a moment then breaks into song;

"His name is Flappy, Flappy, louder than thunder.
He doesn't know how to plunder.
Flappy, Flappy stronger than stone
He's dumber than rock!"
