Midnight Lord tries to trip the creature again, but it has learned the wolf's tricks. Thomas tries to follow up with his spiked chain.

Skeleton Will Save vs Channel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Skeleton Will Save vs Channel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Skeletons surround the party, advancing with jagged and sharp bony fingers. The champion, which must be the animated remains of the bandit lord Asar, chuckles with a disembodied echo through his teeth. Many of your weapons have failed to penetrate his armor, or damage him significantly through it. Things look bad.
But all is not lost, and faith has no height limit.
Holding forth her holy symbol, Kryspi sings and calls upon her divine powers, sending forth a wave of energy that washes over the skeletons with a brilliant light. Three crumble to dust where they stand. Asar stumbles back, the energy pouring out from the seams in his armor like glowing smoke.
"No! Damn you Kassen! NOOOOOOoooo!"
The pinpoints of light within the helmet flare for a moment, then go dark, The sword and armor, once supported by bones, collapses and clatters to the ground.
The last skeleton tries to shuffle forward on cracked bones, but is no match for the Heroes of Kassen...

Quick, someone help the woman! Culsar retrieves his wand of healing and hands it to Kryspi.

Skips lets out a sigh of relief as the skeletons fall. "Oh, that was a close one!" He stashes his scroll and wand and runs forward into the room to help in any way he can.

Thomas and Midnight Lord will search the room for anything of interest, including other threats.
Perception Take 20 - DC 28

The woman on the alter is Dimira, sister to Roldare, the halfling from Kassen that you found barricaded in a chamber above (he's probably pretty hungry and thirsty by now). Though she is unconscious, even a minor healing spell or potion is enough to revive her. When she awakens she cries with joy and relief to see your group has defeated the dangers in the crypt and rescued her.
From her time in captivity Dimira was able to figure out the mystery of Asar's undead return. A few months ago a group of tomb robbers broke into and looted the Crypt of the Everflame. While this alone would be a tragedy, the robbery had one unintended consequence. When the thieves broke open the sarcophagus containing Asar’s body, his foul spirit stirred from its slumber, rising as a skeletal knight. While most of the tomb robbers escaped, Asar continued to wander the halls of the tomb, using evil magic to turn the crypt into a deadly lair. The townsfolk had no idea what awaited them when they arrived a few days ago to prepare the crypt for the young Heroes of Kassen coming to retrieve the Everflame.
Before you Kassen’s sarcophagus lies partially open. Inside, his body is intact, save for the broken links of a chain that lie around his neck—the medallion it once held is missing.
In the western wing of the lower catacombs Thomas finds the disturbed sarcophagus of Asar. Laying near it is a dead human wearing gray robes and an iron mask that covers his face. The stench of rot hangs heavy around him.
The dead man has a few items of interest on his person. On him you find a map leading to the crypt (along with a note that reads, “The amulets are entombed with Kassen and Asar”), a wand of magic missile (CL 3rd, 22 charges), bracers of armor +1, a horn of fog, 354 gp in newly minted coins, and a spellbook that contains the following spells: cause fear, enlarge person, expeditious retreat, false life, levitate, mage armor, magic missile, ray of enfeeblement, and all wizard cantrips.

Heal: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Skip does not catch on to the relevance of anything else in the chamber but helps gather up the items, asking if he can keep the spellbook. Yes, I will be scribing most or all of those into my book.
"So someone has already stolen the amulet?" Skip says, a bit disappointed. "I wonder what they'd want with it. Let's gather all this up and head back to town. I think we've done more than we're supposed to for a silly tradition, don't you?"
Culsar Rankil

Well, we need to light the Everflame and all that, right? We can't forget that!
Heal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Wow, he's ripe.
| DM Rah |
When the lantern is lit with the Everflame, a chill fills the air and a hazy form drifts up from the remains of Kassen. Although disturbing, the spirit smiles at those gathered. "Thank you, young heroes, for putting an end to Asar. I am Kassen, and I am in your debt."
Kassen's spirit has much to say, both about Asar and his relationship with the mercenary captain, and about the value of their amulets. "Asar was once a companion of mine. We had many adventures together, the last of which led us to a great vault of treasure. We divided it equally, but Asar still felt cheated and eventually followed me home to claim my part with a force of bandits. He was defeated, but I soon followed him to the grave as well. My last request was for all to be buried in this crypt, both to honor a man I once called friend, and to safeguard our amulets - the keys to the vault."
Kassen remembers little about the vault itself, but he does remember that the amulet points the way to the vault if it is reassembled from its three component parts - Kassen's (which is missing), Asar's (which you have), and a third amulet once possessed by Iramine, an elven sorceress that was once part of their adventuring group. Afterwards, he gestures to his sarcophagus and offers several of his personal items as rewards for your actions.
Treasure: a bag of holding (type I), a +1 bashing shield, an elemental gem (water), and one scale from his armor for each of you.
"Keep these scales close," Kassen says as he begins to fade from sight, "They will grant a boon to you in your hour of need."

Skip stands in awe of the spirit and listens to it, knowing that not all spirits are foul. "Oh! Yes, yes we will! Thank you Sir!" Skip is flabbergasted and doesn't know quite how to respond. "It seems we've got some work ahead of us then. Let's report back to the town and then the Lodge and see what da-I mean, the Venture-Captain-has to say about this!"
Thomas Linseed

"To the town!" Thomas moves with the group back to town, taking the other two halflings with them.
| DM Rah |
The journey back is somber and uneventful. Roldare is thrilled to see Dimira again and seems to most (but not all) of his sanity.
Upon your return to Kassen, you find a celebration underway in your honor. Mayor Uptal is there to greet you at the gates, but his joy quickly turns to horror when he finds out what has happened. The news quickly spreads throughout town and the harvest celebration turns melancholy. The grand feast is still held in your honor, but it is not the same as it was in previous years. This year, many are drinking to help forget that they have lost friends and loved ones. The next day plans are made to return to the Crypt to recover and bury the slain townsfolk.
Skip sends a full report to his family and soon enough a letter arrives from the Pathfinder Society addressed to all the Heroes of Kassen. In it they express an interest in the recent events at the Crypt of the Everflame and the legacy of Kassen and offer the Heroes the chance to track down the tomb robbers and get to the bottom of puzzle.
This marks the end of the story for the Crypt of the Everflame, but further adventure await those that take up the Society's offer in Masks of the Living God. (Masks is another module, but since it has a level 3-5 range you would need to get more experience to play through it. If anyone is really interested I could probably find another module to fill the gap, or we could revisit it after you've played a few other scenarios and reached the appropriate level.
I've reported this module, and will be sending out Chronicles soon. Thanks everyone!

Yay us!
I haven't played Mask of the Living God but I have completed the third one just a couple days ago with EF.

Skip joins in the festivities and lets everyone know when hears back from the Lodge.
I'm down to play Masks. We could always do Murder's Mark or The Godsmouth Heresy, those are both level 1-2. I played Godsmouth recently and Murder a few years ago but I honestly don't remember anything from Murder at this point.
Culsar Rankil
|
I could play Godsmouth as a 2nd level PC but I've already done so in Murder's Mark.
Thomas Linseed
|
I have played Masks, but I would be up for another Halfling experience.
Thomas Linseed
|
Thomas would have to drop if you played Masks. I have already played it. Would we want me to run it and Rah can play his halfling?
Culsar Rankil
|
I can't play it either.
Skip Flaxseed
|
You reported it and if you haven't played the character elsewhere yet, I don't see any reason why you couldn't just change the reporting if you wanted.
I'd be down to play Overflow Archives. I'm GMing it right now and it is a lot of fun; it's a very creative scenario. Except the map of the lower floor. Holy s$@%, that is the most annoying map I have ever seen in a scenario, and that is really saying something. Paizo has produced some funky pain-in-the-ass maps in the past.
Culsar Rankil
|
Yeah it is. Joesef is in that game so I couldn't play that either. But its no big deal, I'm at 2.2 now so I might be a couple scenarios ahead of a few of you.
| DM Rah |
I've been busy this week preparing for my daughter's birthday party tomorrow, so I haven't been able to really work on finding the next scenario or module for this group, but let's try to narrow it down again.
Cade, it doesn't look like Hungry are the Dead is PFS sanctioned (and it's 6th level anyway).
Option 1: Godsmouth Heresy (module)
Option 2: Wounded Wisp, then maybe the Scions of the Sky Key series?
Option 3: Bold Strider takes over for a scenario or module and I round up a Halfling to join.
Skip Flaxseed
|
None of the 3.5 modules have been sanctioned. Leadership will tell you it's on the list but they've been saying that for years and the AP backlog sanctioning is taking way longer than anyone anticipated I think so don't hold your breath on that.
I'm good for anything but the Sky Key series.
Culsar Rankil
|
I can do Option 1 since I have not played it as a 2nd level PC. Option 2 is out.
| DM Rah |
Ok everyone, I've created a thread for The Godsmouth Heresy. Head over, check in, and dot the gameplay at your leisure.
Also, it looks like we're at 5 players. Should I recruit a 6th?

Dang. Just missed it (By a few weeks.)
