Bryn:
They're a very money driven fraternity. They don't have codes like only killing for good or for power. They keep things businesslike, selling themselves to the highest bidder, taking on a job as long as it pays well and doesn't put them at too serioius of risk. people within the brotherhood are close, helping each other with jobs and teaching their ways to each other (mostly)

thats' probably as much as somebody that isn't party of the fraternity or being hunted by them will know lol

Kraymar looks at Sigghild and smiles Glad to see you again, Lt., I see you're getting acquainted with the rest. It seems as if the king has assembled a fine bunch for this most delicate of tasks.

Male but Androgyneous Half-elf Ranger(Freebooter) 1, Rogue(Spy) 4

I've decided my scimitar will be a shock scimitar made from steel. I at first wanted mithral but that would bring the cost too high. The swish scimitar was presented to Kraymar upon him being promoted the rank of Commander by the King personally but it was a clandestine ceremony in which only the king and Grande Admiral Pym was in attendance. I hope this is ok.

The door to the room opens. In walks the kings represenative with a host of servants carry trays filled with food. You see roast suckling pig, breads of different shapes, sizes, and textures, cheeses letting off aromas from sweet to mild, and many more things.

The kings representative looks a little winded, probably from running around trying to figure out whats going on. Despite this he still presents himself regally for his message.

"Yes, it seems that Lord Evreskar has been called away on other business. Lady Sigghild Thorvinsdottir will be taking his place on this mission. It also appears that the king has been called away as well, on what I would assume is the same business."

The representative looks annoyed at these change of events, and that he was unaware they were taking place. He continues,

"As such, I saw fit for food to be brought. We were preparing for the Feast of Sangiving anyways, I just borrowed some of the food."

A look of satisfaction appears on his face at this last phrase, probably what he feels is retribution for being kept out of the loop. The servants lay out the food and silverware upon the tables. The two maps are rolled up and put aside until the meal is over.

"Inquisitor Davenish, would you be so kind as to lead us in prayer, and give thanks to Iomedae for us?"

The Feast of Sangiving is to celebrate the anniversary of the first landing upon this continent (I will have a history of the kingdoms later). This is actually a smaller celebration. More focus is put on the anniversary of the official naming of the kingdom, which occurs in a few months. Usually just a feast is held for lunch, otherwise not much else is done.

@ Sigghild, you ended up introducing yourself before I had a chance. No problems though. Also, please reference DHs Guide to Play By Post gaming in order to see the proper format your posts should be in.

@ Kray
Once again, in order to put shock on your weapon, it would have to be a +1 weapon first. That's 2000 gp. Putting any magical enhancement on a weapon requires first a +1. Then you can put shock on it, which makes it a +2 weapon, making the total cost 8,000 gp.

I have an interesting question, is having the weapon masterwork count as a +1? hmm, you think i'd know that by now lol

Yix inclines his head. If anyone opens their eyes during the prayer and looks his way, Yix is occasionaly glancing around through half open eyes. After the prayer "Thank you for the news, and the prayer. However, I believe I'm not the only one curious as to know how we shall proceed

Male but Androgyneous Half-elf Ranger(Freebooter) 1, Rogue(Spy) 4

I just went for a +1 Mithral Scimitar. I guess I could buy something else too. Any magic weapon is considered masterwork automatically.

After the prayer, A merry Sangiving to all!!! as Kraymar sips some more wine.

Nope, Yix. A magic weapon is always masterwork, but a masterwork weapon may not always be magic. For clarification, there's a masterwork bonus of +1 to attack rolls and a magic weapon enhancement bonus of +number to attack AND damage rolls. However, the masterwork bonus and magic weapon enchancement bonuses do not stack so if you have a +1 magic weapon, you get a +1 to damage and attack rolls.

In walks a woman of average height with bright red hair. Some of you may recognize her as the officer in charge of the door guards when you entered. From a distance she looks quite beautiful, but now that you see her up close she bears the evidence of either hard use or hard fighting. Her armour is of a good quality. She wears a small medallion of Iomedae on her chest.

Behind her, an older, taller woman with erect posture walks past the room down the hall.

She walks deliberately up to the king's representative, hands him a sealed scroll and says "Sigghild Thorvinsdottir reporting for duty, sir." She moves slightly to his side and stands at ease. Her face is an absolute blank, devoid of any emotion.

Finally a superior sex...

Hi my name is Leonidas Volox. Nice to meet you and I am glad that I am not the only female on this mission.

Leanidas smiles and stretched out her hand for a handshake.

Oh my father is growing healthier even so as I speak. He also enjoys the exotic snakes you sold him last summer, says they are of an excellent breed.

Leanidas responded to Bryn.

An Bryn you misunderstood me. I know the difference between the two. However, as the DM was pointing out, a weapon needs to be +1 before it can be magically enhanced with 'flaming' or something similar. My question was if that +1 could just come from it being masterwork, not actually being magically enhanced to hit better, which would make magical items far cheaper.

Oh, right. Now I get it. I've never thought about that. That's a very good point, because from what I know the rules just states you need an enhancement bonus and having the masterwork quality does provide a +1 enhancement bonus to attack roll.

To the rules forum! Edit: <Is masterwork sufficient to add magical qualities to an item?>

tl;dr - No, it is not sufficient. If taken literally, it requires a full enhancement bonus to both damage and attack rolls, which being magical provides as masterwork only gives attack roll. Basically, it needs to have at least magical +1.

I'm a little rushed today with additional holiday events otherwise I would type out a prayer but I don't want to hold things up. I'll pick up any other conversations as soon as I can.

"That's good to hear," Bryn says to Leanidas. "I'm glad he's pleased with the snakes; the negotiations with the trappers we bought them from were difficult, but it was well worth the effort."

He smiles back at Yix's response. "That is true. Which reminds me, those trappers did have a saying." He looks as if he's trying to recall it, his hand moving as if to speed up his remembering. "Ah, yes. 'Take care not to focus too much on the snake lest you miss the scorpion.'"

He faces Leanidas. "Charming people. If your father ever needs scorpions, we can get those also."

Sense Motive DC 22:

His hand gestures seem to be too deliberate, and it pauses slightly every now and then. There seems to be an implication in his words.

A similar response on the same topic. The hand gestures declare the old Goao proclamation of presence, and a transmission of acknowledgement.

Bryn observes silence as Grace is said.

Afterwards, he begins to eat, sitting with the rest of the group and displays proper dining etiquette.

Hi sorry for the slow posting RL have alot of work and my exams are coming up. I will be away for a week for vacation and will have limited access to internet. Just some heads up and will try to post once a day. Will try to get it moving along before I fly tomorrow.

The merchant's representative was welcoming, "A pleasure to meet you honoured sir. I look forward to working with you." Sigghild made a mental note of his name, Bryn Goao.

Kraymar Hinstulkin was equally warm, but clearly had both an eye for detail and a good memory. "It's good to see you again, sir."

Sigghild smiled in amusement and relief at Leonidas Volox's warm greeting. "It will definitely be nice to have you along. Pleased to make your acquaintance."

Sigghild said the ending response to grace in a clear voice. She clearly was glad to participate in the ritual. She showed a particular fervour in her voice and attitude, which departed when the priest finished.

Sorry about that. When newbie mistakes are to be made, I generally make them. I'm currently on the road, visiting family. If it's alright, I'll get the gear and stuff listed when I get home, Monday (or possibly Sunday). I've enjoyed reading what's been posted already!

Male Aasimar Inquisitor 5

Ilamin engages in small talk with Sigghild before the prayer.

After the prayer he fixes a plate with the most basic dishes at the table, an adequate and small meal. He is quiet and appears to be enjoying taking in the conversations around him.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I will be posting minimally through the end of next week. I'm going to be pretty tied up with work but I should be able to post at least once a day.

Male but Androgyneous Half-elf Ranger(Freebooter) 1, Rogue(Spy) 4

To Sigghild as he looks over the maps Would you happen to know the strength of the ground forces of the Talforians?

A servant enters the room, and whispers to the kings representative. The representative nods, and the servant leaves the room. He steps forward slightly.

"Good news. The King has finished with his business, and will be joining us shortly. I hope everyone has enjoyed there meal, but now it is time to focus back on business.

He motions to the servants around the walls, and they suddenly leap into action, clearing the tables and walking off with everything. As each one leaves the room, a new servant enters to take their place, standing humbly in the same places that their predecessors were.

Once all the tables are cleared, the represenative waves his hand at the table, and the servants jump into action again. The move the round tables to the side of the room, clearing a space in the middle. You see a servant brush the wall, and the same side passage Khelreddin left down opens. The servants pull out 2 large rectangular tables and set them up in the cleared space, side by side, making one larger, almost square talbe. The two maps are set in the middle of the table. Chairs are put around the table, along with a highly ornate, gold gilded chair, which you assume is for the king. Each servant bows, and leaves the room, leaving only the diplomatic party and the kings representative.

@ Kraymar:

Since the pieces showing the ground forces were removed, and you are not too familiar with the military's deployment, you aren't able to garner anything from the map. As far as naval, you have not seen any Talforian naval forces since the start of the international troubles. They had seemed to disappear.
The rumors were that they were planning a naval strike, which was laughable because Amular actually had a naval force, unlike Talfor who never seemed to be too involved with that. They preferred small fast ships using guerrilla warfare tactics, since they couldn't stand against the much larger more powerful ships Amular has.

@ Sigghild:

The ground forces of Talfor seemed to have disappeared, at least to common knowledge. They have pulled a lot of their forces back, and with the current situation between the two kingdoms, there is no easy way to know what and where their current strength is. However, you can assume there have been spies and such sent, so maybe the king will have a clear picture.

@ Yix: They are correct, masterwork does not count for the magical enhancement. The easy way to think about it, is that magical abilities (flame, speed, ect) have to be applied to a magical weapon. Enchanting your weapon/armor to +1 makes it magical, and then abilities can be applied to it.

Sorry about how long this has taken. I've been busier than I ever expected. The King will show up today, and we will get this started. I'm amazed at your dedication, the other two groups I'm in disappeared this holiday season. It's time to get this party... er... mission started.

Female Human Fighter 5

Sigghild almost chokes on a grape when Kraymar addresses her. She coughs slightly which both buys her time and dislodges the fruit.

She turns to Kyamar. "I don't think many people know. I certainly don't. We do know that they've been playing games with their forces, hiding them and such. Perhaps we will learn more from the King?"

Kraymar absorbs what Sigghild says and replies, [b] Crafty, it seems our counterparts in Talfor are utilizing a uniformed strategy between their fleet and their land forces. Hmm we should definitely keep our wits about us... Trying times we have... [b]

When hearing the king is coming he chooses a chair and stands at attention until the king's entrance. Once the king enters, he clicks his heels together making a loud clicking noise and salutes.

The door to the room opens wide. A number of servants enter the room. These look better than those that had just left. These wore deep red liveries, with gold lining, the lion emblazoned upon their chests. These are the king’s personal servants. They line the walls, taking the place of those that had left. Then walks in the king. As the king enters, everyone stands. Kraymar clicks his heels together making a loud clicking noise and salutes.

The King seems almost like a normal person. If it wasn’t for the deep red robes, fur lined collar, and enough embroidery to make another outfit, he would almost seem to be another one of the guys. He is obviously human, without pointy ears, clean shaven, and standing about 6’2”. He seems to be well built, though it is hard to tell under the thick robes. He has high cheek bones, a pronounced nose, and eyes a deep blue, that goes well with his dirty blonde hair. His hair is tied at the top of his head, creating a high knot that makes him seem almost taller. His skin is white, though well-tanned from many hours spent outside the castle.

When he enters, he throws his arms wide and looks at you all.“Thank you for being here!” He welcomes everyone jovially. He notices the rapt attention of Kraymar. “Please please, let us not stand on formality here. You are here to save this kingdom, and for that, you owe me no special dues.”

He strides forward to Kraymar. “At ease. I’m glad to see you here Kraymar, we will need your knowledge and expertise on this mission of course.” He shakes his right hand, while his left clasps his shoulder.

Then he moves over to Bryn. “Ah Mr. Goao of House Ausum. I’m glad to see the middle class will be represented on this endeavor. We should have no worries with you around.” He shakes his hand firmly and gives him a knowing look.

He turns and looks at Yix, then slides over in front of him. “Why if it isn’t Yix Windsoul. I’ve heard of the great things you have done at the Schola Scientie. You have been a great help to them, and I’m glad you will be representing such a great school.” He gives Yix a little bow.

Seriously, he approaches Ilamin. “May the Inheritor guide you always, Inquisitor Davenish. I’m glad to see the will of Iomedae with be given great justice on this mission.” He gives Ilamin a deep bow of respect.

He sees Sigghild and smiles broadly. He moves over and gives her a big handshake. “Siggy! Sorry, I mean Sigghild Thorvinsdottir. Thank you so much for stepping in when Khelreddin was called away. I know you will do well to represent the military. I may even get you that horse you’ve always wanted when you get back.”

Finally, he approaches Leanidas. He looks straight into her eyes. “Sir Leanidas Volox of House Volox. It is my honor to finally meet you. I know this envoy will be safe in your hands.” He gives her a stiff nod of approval.

Having met everyone, he smiles again, then heads over to his seat and sits down. The king’s representative moves over and stands by his shoulder. The king waves his hand, inviting you all to sit as well.

Ok, a day later than I figured, but now it has started. I'm pretty sure Sigghild will be the only one not surprised by how the King acts, because she is the only one whose met him. The rest of you have heard talk that the king was a little odd, but you figured it to just be the standard rumors that run around. I tried to make sure he wouldn't insult anyone by his actions, if I didn't read your character right, let me know for the future. Throw up your reactions to everything, and then we will get down to business.

Sigghild went from 'at ease' then to 'attention' then to 'parade rest' when the King shook her hand. When he addressed her, she winced very slightly at her nickname. His praise brought a slight pinkish tinge to her cheeks, which suffused a bit when he mentioned the possibility of giving her a horse.

"Thank you, your majesty, you are too kind."

She sat as directed.

I am so terribly sorry guys. I'm just not able to get myself to work on this campaign. That's why I've been so slow to post. Truthfully, I have nothing prepared, just some vague ideas, and have been developing all the information on the spot. Unfortunately, for this type of campaign, with politics and heavy roleplaying, that just doesn't work. So I regret to inform you that I will have to bow out of being DM. If someone want to take over for me, I'm totally fine with that, and I'd be willing to play in it even. Otherwise, I'll be sad to see you all go, this was shaping up to be a great game. Hopefully I will see you all in different games I'm in.

Well, bummer. :(

Sounded like a good game in concept. If you put it together let us know.

Sad to see this go. It looked like it was turning out good, but I understand the difficulties. Ditto on what Malacki said.
