Background:

Ilamin was an orphan who was raised at the Church of Iomadae in the Capital of Amular. All he was ever told about his origin at the church was that he was brought there as a young baby with a look of innocence and glowing halo atop his head. Upon closer inspection, the priests noticed a birthmark that resembled the holy symbol of Iomadae, which may have explained why he was delivered to that church.

As a child, Ilamin realized that he was different from the other children and adults at the church. However, a high priest by the name of Lloyd Davenish took a special interest in Ilamin. Lloyd was an older priest at the church of Iomadae who believed that there should be a more peaceful focus from the church, with violence as a last resort. Lloyd taught Ilamin these values.

He suggested to Ilamin that he look deeper in to his similarities to the others as well as his differences. He suggested that he spend his time understanding other people and learning how to understand the subtle clues of their body language as well as the proper social skills required to befriend those around him. Ilamin took these lessons to heart and spent much of his time listening, watching, and interacting with the various people around him. As he studied the creatures around him, he learned how to interact with all types of creatures to gain their trust and detect their deceptions.

Not everyone saw Ilamin's appearance in the church as one of peace. Many of the priests believed that he should be trained to be a holy warrior from the heavens. Ilamin received specialized training with the longsword as well as training in wearing full plate. Those priests expected to raise Ilamin to be a Paladin.

As Ilamin grew in age, his ties to Iomadae manifested differently than the priests expected. Instead of praying for specific spells, it appeared that Iomadae had given Ilamin the spells she saw appropriate. He was not blessed with the divine ability to smite the enemies of his church but instead he was provided with a deeper understanding of the enemies man kind and their weaknesses.

Ilamin became more of a face and voice for the church. He spent much of his time improving the skills that allowed him to relate to others but also focusing in books on the creatures that plagued humanity. The spells that Iomadae had blessed Ilamin with made her direction for him clear. She gave him a spell which allowed him to understand all languages, then as his power grew another spell to speak with those he couldn't normally speak with. She blessed him with the power to heal those who had been injured but also to combat those who opposed her will. Because of this the church has sent him on a number of diplomatic missions.

Ilamin has been sent to various parts of the continent on these missions. Many of the missions resulted in peaceful resolutions but Ilamin has fought in his share of battles as well. The mission that haunts Ilamin to this day is the mission where Lloyd was lost to him forever.

During that mission, Ilamin and LLoyd had been sent to a border village between Amular and Talfor to resolve a dispute as to which nation the town belonged to. They were told that the conflict had led the town to split in to multiple feuding factions with some minor bloodshed up to this point. When they arrived they negotiated peace talks with all sides under a banner of non-violence. They appeared at this meeting to mediate the peace talks with the leaders of the factions when an ambush occurred. One faction was led by a secret cult of Rovagug who had no desire for peace but only bloody conflict and the destruction of the town as a whole. Lloyd and Ilamin were overrun by the ambushers. All of the leaders, except those who worshiped Rovagug, were killed as Lloyd and Ilamin did their best to battle the assailants. Ultimately, Lloyd took a mortal wound in the battle as Ilamin fought and killed their last assailant. Ilamin ran to Lloyd and heard his last whispers. Lloyd told Ilamin that his time in this world was over and that he had lived a full life. He told Ilamin that he was the son he never had while handing him his signet ring with the Davenish family crest. He asked him to carry on a vision of the church of Iomadae, which viewed violence as a last resort. These words and wishes resonate in Ilamin's mind to this day. He took the Davenish family name from that point forward.

Ilamin views his role in the world as one of peace and understanding. He believes he was sent here for a higher purpose, one that Lloyd saw, and one that transcends the humanoid races. Once he heard about the king's mission to send a Church Ambassador to Talfor he knew that this is what he had been sent here for and what his special skill set was meant for. Ilamin immediately requested to be sent as the Church's Ambassador and now awaits the King's response.
