Each Volox protects the man
A single weak spot
From thigh to neck, Leanidas. Leanidas opened her eyes as she focused her vision on the wide open fields as the troops of House Volox trained. The famous Phalanx formation that earned House Volox the fame, a crush unit heavily utilized by the King of Amular when they require hard shield tactics forming the vanguard on military invasions. The Vanguard is a formation of 1500 men, led by a strategos (general). Volox phalanxes usually deployed in ranks of 16 men deep, sometimes to as much as 32 men deep. The phalanx depth could vary depending on the needs of the moment and plans of the general. The Volox phalanxes had to trust their neighbours to protect them, and be willing to protect their neighbour; a phalanx was thus only as strong as its weakest elements. The effectiveness of the phalanx therefore depended upon how well the phalanxes could maintain this formation while in combat, and how well they could stand their ground, especially when engaged against another phalanx. For this reason, the formation was deliberately organized to group friends and family closely together, thus providing a psychological incentive to support one's fellows, and a disincentive through shame to panic or attempt to flee. Leanidas looks on proudly at the efficiency of how quickly her men changed formation and tactics upon her commands issued through a flag bearer waving various colored flags. Satisfied with the progress of the Phalanx, she returns to her room and requested her squire to put on her armor. While the squire hastily puts on her armor, Leanidas thoughts drifted away... Leanidas is the eldest daughter of General Theosson Volox, Patriarch of House Volox. An established phalanx fighter herself, she is able to wield both spear and shield very well even without the phalanx formation. What a mighty man you will be if you are born as a man Leanidas... A saying her father always said as traditionally the ruler of House Volox must always be a male. Thus her younger brother Ciaphas Volox an amazing phalanx fighter himself is groomed for leadership. She struggled with resentment towards her younger brother when she was younger as she bested him in both spear and shield and tactics of the Phalanx formation. All that changed when her mother Alistria Volox passed away due to sickness when she was 10. As she stood with her brother before her mother's deathbed, she recalled the last words spoken by her mother. We fight...
A single weak spot
Protect your brother Leanidas. Our strength is unity... Remembering that night, it formed the principle of her life. To protect her fellowmen, the source of our strength. Unity. It turned her resentment to stoic resolve, serving as a personal bodyguard to her father Patriarch Theosson Volox and her brother Heir Caliphas Volox on military campaigns. When they formed up the Phalanx Formation, Leanidas stood on the right side dedicating to protect Theosson and Caliphas on her left at all cost, to death if necessary. Leanidas fashioned a Battle Mask shaped after the visage of the fabled Medusa from the ancient word έδουσα (Médousa), means "guardian, protectress". Donning on the mask, it conceals her femininity and it strike fear into the hearts of those she faced. Imitating the erratic and trance like movement of the cobra, Leanidas's spear flashed and trips opponents from unpredictable angle , striking swiftly at the smallest opening amidst the opponent's confusion. Spinning and blocking with her shield, she mastered the art of body-guarding by shielding all those who are close to her. Leanidas whispered the Volox ethos... We fight...
You are ready, Lady Leanidas. The squire respectfully bowed before her. Checking the sturdiness of the armor, she nods before picking up her huge round shield with the emblem of House Volox on it, a snake eating it's own tail signifying completeness and unity which she named Aegis and her spear resembling a striking serpent Adder off the weapon rack. Feeling the weight of the shield, she reminds herself of the heavy responsibility to protect those who are charged to her. She picks up her Battle Mask resembling the fabled "Medusa" which she wears in combat earning her the reputation of "Medusa", attaching it to her belt. Her father has called her to represent House Volox on a diplomatic mission towards Kingdom of Talfor. A peace talk hoping to resolve the issues within the two kingdoms. Her mission is to protect the 4 ambassador sent from the Church, Military, Navy and the Mages College. Patriarch, i present myself and pledge upon my honor to do House Volox proud. Leanidas speaks as she slams her spear against her shield standing before her Patriarch, Theossan Volox. The loud clang echoed within the empty throne room. Leanidas, you remind me so much of your mother...she would have been proud as I am now. This assignment is of utmost importance and dedicate to see to their safety. To owe our friends nothing but Honor, Honesty and Loyalty. Theossan hugs Leanidas as he draws her close and whispered into her ears. You are the first born of House Volox...should the situation turn for the worse, raise the Vanguard of House Volox. Pulling back, Theossan smiles. Come home with your shield or on it....Leanidas I will...........Father... Leanidas bows before exiting the throne room wiping her tears away. |
