You are lead into the planning room. It is brightly lit with two hanging chandeliers full of burning candles and decorated lanterns around the room. There is a table set with Hors d'œuvre and light wines, which is customary when entertaining high ranking officials. There are a few round tables in the room, covered in lace table cloths, surrounded by high back wooden chairs, detailed with a carving of a lion rearing on its hind legs, the symbol of the kingdom. The tables and chairs rest upon a large, lush, deep red rug, that makes you just want to take your boots off and step in it barefoot. There are a few liveried servants wearing pure white garments, with the lion emblazoned in gold thread upon the shoulders, evenly spaced along the walls, heads down, trying to be invisible. The pure white and the deep red are the nations colors, as can be seen by the nations flag that hangs over the door.
Upon one of the table’s is a map of the kingdom, and into the neighboring kingdom of Talfor, along with some pieces on it that shows deployment of troops. The representative moves quickly to the table and removes the pieces. The representative turns and addresses you.
“Please everyone, come in. This will be the time for you to get to know each other, and plan your strategy of what you want to do. The King will show up later to personally meet you, and to tell you what the current situation is. Feel free to have relax until then. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, I may be able to answer them. If you have any special needs, one of the servants” He gestures to the servants along the walls “Should be able to help you.” He moves to the side of the room.
Go ahead and compare character stats. No need to overlap spells and such. Decide how you want to split up camping supplies and other mundane items. Remember horses and feed will be provided if you don't have any. I'm thinking we will start the full campaign next Monday, since it is Thanksgiving this week. Until then, we can have fun in here.
Ilamin Davenish |
Ilamin Davenish of the Church of Iomadae checking in. If this is intended to be in character discussions, please let me know and I'll revise.
Appearance Wise:
Ilamin is a male human aasimar with blonde hair as pictured in the avatar. Once he is selected and enters the room, with the rest of those selected, he has a glowing halo appear above his head. He has a look of innocence and trust about him. He is dressed in what seems to be the most basic courtier's outfit anyone would expect to see. He seems fashionable but intentionally low key in his dress. He wears a signet ring and a silver holy symbol of Iomadae around his neck.
Crunch wise, here are his spells and special abilities:
0-Level (At Will)-Bleed, Brand, Detect Magic, Light, Read Magic, Stabilize

Leanidas Volox "Medusa" |
Alright! Just some heads up I will be on vacation for a week next week so my posting might be minimal but I will still try to get a post in each day.
Bryn Goao |
Bryn is a merchant. That is all your characters need to know! Huzzah for fun!
I foresee myself using a lot of this in the future to do 'secret actions'.
One of the men you come in with nods his understanding to the King's representative. He is tall and slim but his posture is straight and his manners elegant. His short brown hair is combed neat.
He is dressed in extravagant clothes, gold being most prominent with black undertones. It consisted breeches, stockings, shoes, the coat, the surcoat and a flat cap. Precious metals and gems have also been worked into the design of the clothing. It looks gaudy and very expensive. On his ring finger is a golden signet ring. Closer inspection of the seal would reveal it bears image of a black crane on it.
He turns to face the other representatives.
"It is a pleasure to meet each of you," he says, smiling, brown eyes making contact with each of yours. He has a clean-shaven face.
Yix |
1-(Disguise Self, Grease, Sleep, Feather Fall)-6/day
2-(Invisibility, Silence, Cure Moderate Wounds)-3/day
A dark haired catfolk with graying whiskers responds when Yix Windsoul is called, and has a slight smile as he gets chosen. Yix has dark green robes on that mark him as a performer and a magic user. A beautiful wooden harmonica hangs from his neck, and when he walks there's an odd lack of noise. When they enter a new room Yix takes a split second scan of the room before going over it more slowly, then he smiles and introduces himself. When he begins speaking there's a faint hint of melody in his voice, and his silver tongue seems a bit hypnotic, and sometimes you catch yourself not listening to your surroundings as much "Yix, well met all. Forgive me, my age makes me forget names faster than I hear them, but I promise I shall learn them in time" After shaking a few hands and exchanging some meaningless pleasantries, Yix sits cross legged in the corner. As he sits you notice he's barefoot. He pulls his harmonica up and begins softly playing, a tune that provides a gentle yet rolling melody

Kraymar Hinstulkin |
Commander Kraymar Hinstulkin reporting for duty.
The dapper blonde half-elf naval officer wearing his dark blue with red piping dress uniform and a cape, walks inside briskly. In his left hand he is carrying a cane and in the right a large scroll. He is quick to return any salutes from junior officers and give them to those who outrank him. His long blonde hair is tied back with a red velvet ribbon exposing his filed ears.
Having just left the admiralty, he brings with him a large scroll. To the steward, Where can I place the admiralty's map, it has the latest information of our fleet's location and the best recon information of the Talforian fleet as well.
Afterwards he introduces himself to the Aasimar. Commander Hinstulkin, of his Royal Navy, pleased to meet you. with a smile.
Yix |
Yix's eyes linger just a little longer on Bryn, and he maintains eye contact for just a little longer. Yix arcs an eyebrow up at him, and his eyes seem sharper for a moment. After the handshake is broken his calm demeanor returns.
When Kraymar enters Yix's ears swivel towards the door, but his eyes remain shut and his playing doesn't change save for the volume decreasing as the newcomer speaks. After he concludes his song he picks one with a more upbeat melody, and it offers a light hearted background
Valeros the Pregenerated |
Khelreddin enters the room, just wrapping up a quiet conversation with Lord Gram, a senior adviser to the king on foreign affairs. In the doorway, Gram clasps his hand firmly, putting his other hand on Khelreddin’s shoulder, and looks him significantly in the eye before turning away. Khel enters the room, crossing to the map table with a leonine grace, his calm green eyes taking in the room at a glance. His black-green armor appears to be crafted of a shifting pattern of leaves, and a blade with a gentle curve before the tip rides at his left side.
Khel nods courteously to Leonidas, who travelled with him in the course of some delicate negotiations with the dwarves of the northern mountains a few years ago. Then, seeing Kraymar across the map table, he smiles and extends a fine-boned hand, his half-elven features reflected back at him.
”Commander, a pleasure to see you again. I look forward to working with you on this mission. It is always interesting to observe your rather…unorthodox methods in the field.”
Khelreddin observes the other members of the mission more closely, his eye resting contemplatively on Bryn before moving on. He smiles slightly at the sight of the catman playing music in the corner, and his sword hand moves in a quick, twisting arpeggio at his side, perfectly matching the beat of music. He takes a turn around the room, collecting a glass of wine and introducing himself to Ilamin and Bryn, but choosing to leave the musician in the corner undisturbed.
Hello all - looking forward to this game, especially after seeing these initial posts. I took a couple of liberties with presuming past relationships, hope that's okay.
Will work on travel equipment and such and post again later.
Leanidas Volox "Medusa" |
Leanidas walks into the room. She has slanted dark eyes. Her dark hair is short and is worn in a simple, dignified style. She has a busty build. Her skin is pale. She has a defined nose and high cheekbones. Her bright silver body armor is of an eastern heritage which is a full-body field armor that combines both metal lamellar and kikko components into a suit of mail. It includes a collapsible armored hood, as well as arm, shoulder, and thigh guards. She wears a red flowing red cloak and wears a vicious looking Nodaichi shaped to resemble a striking serpent with a huge steel shield with the emblem of House Volox on her back. The emblem is a snake eating it's own tail signifying completeness and unity. A Battle Mask resembling the fabled Medusa hangs on her belt.
Greetings, I am Leanidas Volox of House Volox protector of the various emissaries of this mission. I pledge my shield and spear to your saftey and the success of our mission.
Leanidas nods to each of them before putting down her heavy steel round shield against the wall. She looks around the room familiarizing herself to the environment as what a good bodyguard will do. She smiles at Khelreddin acknowledging his presence.
It's Leanidas not Leonidas. He is hairy i am not LOL!!
Yix |
As Khelreddin walks in, Yix's eyes open and he gives a quick sideways glance at him. He takes a long yawn that has a hint of a purr in it, and you notice the harmonica remains aloft and the music continues. After a moment Yix closes his eyes again and continues playing, although those that weren't looking may not have noticed. When Leanidas walks in his ears move a little, but mostly he remains in his own world
Many of the half blooded elves, along with an aasimar. Hmm, well they always have interesting views and stories. That comment about unorthodox methods though...
DM Wofguy |
The steward recognizes Kraymar and smiles satisfactorily
"Ah good, you brought it. Let's see..." He looks among the tables. He walks up to one and pats it. "Place it right here, on the table next to the other map."
@ khel
You forgot to add stunning fist to your list of abilities
@ Kray
What is a swish scimitar? Also your disable device should be higher.
Looking good so far. Like the writing styles. Should be a fun group.
Yix |
Yix smiles, and he inserts an triplet into the song to confuse the time signature, seeing if he gets Khelreddin off the beat. He brings the song to an end, noticing events are soon to be moving on. Standing, Yix makes his way over to those he hasn't introduced himself to yet, taking a casual glance at the maps as he passes
"Well met all, I hope I wasn't disturbing you with my music. Yix, representative of the mages" Yix gives them all a firm, furry handshake (sorry I had to haha). Upon reaching Leanidas he almost kisses her hand, but thinks better of it.
Bryn Goao |
Huh. I didn't know you could put spoilers in the class/level fields. That makes things much neater! Also hope you don't mind me putting in the relevant things your character might know about mine in respective knowledge spoilers.
"Bryn Goao," the merchant introduces to each of you politely, "serving as the mercantile representative."
He quickly bothers himself with the Hors d'œuvre and sips from a glass of light wine, looking curious from time to time and enjoying the music.
And I just realized that the header under my character saying 'Human Spy' is, yannow, really telling. *throws that under a spoiler tag with everything else*
As he eats, Bryn casually takes in the room, inspecting and profiling the others surreptitiously.
Perception 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
He's quickly finished with the appetizers, staying there only for a few minutes before he's attempting to engage the others in conversation, glass of wine in hand.
When Yix approaches him, he returns the handshake firmly and says, "Not at all. I quite enjoyed your music, in fact."
Kraymar Hinstulkin |
Yeah its a +9, it was set with the use of improvised tools. I designed the swish scimitar, swish like fast, it gives you a second attack when you do a full attack action. Hope its ok.
Kraymar unrolls the naval map on the aforementioned table and continues to mingle.
He shakes the hand of Khelreddin and smiles, One must be like the water and fill the space such as given. Hahaha, you were just a bit mad you didn't recognize me through my disguise, last time... he then turns to Leanidas Volox.
Good evening, Madam! before he bows and kisses Volox' hand. Sorry for my rude behavior, my name is Hinstulkin, and I hope your sword prowess shall remain unrequired
Later he walks over to the Yix and says, Good evening, sir. Was wondering if you know the classic "The Seabear and Rusalka"?
Leanidas Volox "Medusa" |
Leanidas frowns at the term Madam.
The first order of things, do not call me Madam or kiss my hand please. As you can see I am not your prancing little princess.
Leanidas raise her brows at all the men in the room.
Men and their ego...pffffttt
You may call me Medusa too if you wish, slayer of.....men.
Leanidas smiles before putting another remark.
By the way I use a spear....swords are for goons who can't aim...no offense...Commander..
Valeros the Pregenerated |
Making a switch in Khel's crunch, DM asked me to post about it:
Will change 5th lvl from Lore Warden to Master of Many Styles - so will be Lore Warden 3/MoMS 2. Main effects of this are:
slight boost to all saves
pick up Crane Riposte
add Evasion ability
May also swap out a trait that no longer makes sense with Crane Riposte - Threatening Defender
Kraymar Hinstulkin |
After intently listening to Leanidas, Kraymar subtly smiles at the young woman and says, Ms. Volox, please do not take offence, my code as an officer, means that I must comport myself as such. Hmmmm, a manslayer, eh... interesting, does that mean you prefer to not slay women or is that just a coincidence?
When she gets to the spear remark, Spears are great for pulling in large fish, however for combat aboard a sloop or frigate they are a bit unwieldy... HAHAHAHA! I think our highness has most definitely picked an adept guardian of our group. he smiles graciously and then bows.
I think if its ok with Bryn and the GM, I would think Kraymar may have had dealings with Bryn while he was undercover as a pirate and would play it like "I know you but do we want everyone to know we do" because the admiralty might not know...
DM Wofguy |
In case people were wondering, 4 of our 6 use weapon finesse to fight.
That's part of why I put you both in this. I knew there would be a connection between you two. Go ahead and read each others backgrounds. Unless Bryn feels it should play out differently
Scanning around the room everything seems normal. The servants seem meek and uninterested in what is going on. The kings representative was quietly whistling to Yix's music, swaying in spot until it stopped, at which point he focused back in on what was going on. The room looks as previously described. You can assume that many noble dignitaries have waited in this very room.
Yix |
Yix smiles, generally enjoying the people in the group "Kraymar your reputation may proceed you, but I believe it is your wit I shall enjoy on this trip. I do know that song, I spent a few weeks aboard 'The Endeavor', a trade boat that seemed to be having troubles with sirens. One of the cabin boys taught it to me, perhaps I'll play it after our meeting is done here."
Bryn Goao |
Bryn observes Leanidas' interaction with Kraymar and updates his mental profiles of her. He resists the urge to make a phallic remark about their weapons though he thinks Cerny would be amused.
He greets Kraymar. "Pleasure to see you again, Commander Hinstulkin." Bryn takes a sip of his wine. "It's been some time since I saw you last. You might be pleased to know that I have some new capes from the south. I've held some in reserve, very fine craftsmanship. You might like to see them sometime if what I recall of your tastes have remained the same." He nods and gestures at the other's cape.
Bluff (pass secret message) 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16 [opposed by others' Sense Motive checks to decipher if they suspect and roll for it]
Undercover. Don't tell anyone. Nice cape.
Leanidas Volox "Medusa" |
Alright since everyone wants to have past association. Anyone up for association with House Volox a prominent house for the King's army. It's like delta force of the US army.
I will defend the ambassadors against all form of tyranny and dangers If that include woman you have offended before...we'll I might be incline to let them take you...a woman's fury usually serves as a good lesson in your life commander.
Leanidas laughed covering her mouth with her two hands.
Bryn Goao |
Associations are my house's specialty. They like to keep their fingers in many pots. We own prominent businesses so chances are that most everyone's done business with them in Amular, if at least indirectly. Noteworthy associations like with other noble families, important foreign relations, and government branches are also quite lucrative.
An association with Bryn can come in many forms. You could have met him during an important party, or perhaps your house has done much business directly with his house. Maybe your houses are allies and they send yours some nice goods every now and then in exchange for a few favors.
House Volox, for example, seems to have a good potential candidate due to their esteemed military background and invaluable service.
Information about their habits, what goods and equipments they purchase, records (such as military records), and so on, would be relatively easy for House Ausum to acquire.
Kraymar Hinstulkin |
I would think Kraymar's pirate escapade would be common knowledge and reason for his reputation, what he has been doing since would only be known bits and pieces.
Speed, is basically what I wanted hero's lab asked me to name it...swish sound coolish...
@Leanidas, Charming, furious women are, of course, the best kinds!
@Yix It is a great one, be careful in the second bridge the takt changes into 9/13 time signature, ahh, the Endeavor, i was but a boy in Amularhaven when she was christened, a fine vessel.
@Bryn It is a great honor to cross paths with you once again. It would be delightful to peruse your wares. Always a pleasure
He then shakes his hand
Bryn
DM Wofguy |
The Kings Representative hears Ilamin's questions and nods.
"Yes yes, your questions will be answered when the king arrives. That should be any minute now."
And by minute, I mean tomorrow. I'll begin to explain the details of the mission then.
It would stand to reason that you all would have some association or at least know of each other. You were all picked as the top diplomats in your area, which means you are well known or have some stories that have spread throughout the land.
@ khel
Go for the change. If you can show a comparison on exactly what has changed, that would make it easier. Like Fort: +5/+7 to show before and after.
@ Kray
Yeah, the speed enhancement is a +3 enhancement. Which means first it would have to be a +3 sword, then you add the +3 enhancement, which equals a +6 sword. That would make the sword cost 72,000 gp. Not going to work. You can call your scimitar a swish scimitar, but it's nothing special other than how it may look.
Bryn Goao |
Bryn returns the handshake firmly.
"Has anyone tried one of the appetizers? The chefs have really outdone themselves," he says in conversation. "The wine goes quite well with them too."
He addresses Leanidas. "If you don't mind me asking, how is your father, Lady? It's been some time since I've saw him last and news is always better from the source."
Yix |
DM if i may throw in my two copper pieces, a weapon doesn't need to have an enhancement to hit in order to be a magical weapon. Saying it has +1 enhancement means it costs the same as a +1 weapon. A flaming weapon is a +1 weapon, a +1 flaming weapon is a +2 weapon. If I understand Kraymar correctly, he wants +3 enhancement on his weapon without having a bonus to hit, only having it has a +3 as for as expenses go
Yix tries some of the appetizers, but leaves the wine untouched. He seems to be looking about the room, but has an ear for Bryn's question.
Leanidas Volox "Medusa" |
I believe it says in the rules A weapon with a special ability must also have at least a +1enhancement bonus. Weapons cannot possess the same special ability more than once.
Kraymar Hinstulkin |
The commander then makes his way to the table and elegantly picks up a glass of dry white wine, swirls it in the glass takes in a deep nose and subtly tastes the wine, then walks over to the Ilamin and says, Iomadae the merciful be with you, padre! and then he gives the holy man a graceful bow.
How find you this group? he asks with deference.
DM Wofguy |
Well I have been mistaken about the rules for some time. "A weapon with a special ability must also have at least a +1 enhancement bonus." (end of third paragraph) I thought the enhancement had to equal the special ability. However, this still would make the scimitar a +4, +1 enhancement, +3 speed enhancement, costing 32,000. That's not going to fly. I also said that you can't spend more than half your money on one magical item. Figure out something else to do with it. Thank you.
Ilamin Davenish |
Ilamin, while drinking a glass of water, smiles at the half-elf's greeting but as he begins to bow Ilamin raises a hand and says, "Please, that is not necessary."
"Commander, your reputation proceeds you. I look forward to traveling in your company on this mission."
"While I have never traveled with the others here, I have heard many wonderful tales. I truly hope that we can work to maintain peace on the continent without any bloodshed," Ilamin says with a sincere smile.
DM Wofguy |
Sorry guys, all of a sudden today became crazy. If I post it will be later tonight. Then I have to move again this thanksgiving, and there is thanksgiving. As much as I hate it, I think I'm going to postpone everything until Monday. You guys can keep posting here, and I'll keep checking and answering questions as needed, but the king probably won't show up until Monday. At which point it will probably move over to the Gameplay thread, but I'm not certain. Once again, I'm sorry. I will not let this die as long as you all are willing to stick around.
Also, Khel is going to have to leave us. I'll let him explain if he wants. I will be looking to the applicants to replace him, so there will be a slight change in the group but it will carry on.
Bryn Goao |
No worries, DM Wofguy. Just gonna play around some more.
Ilamin, that seems rather drastic. Maybe the King had second thoughts or needed him elsewhere. Though for more drama, he could have eaten something that was *gasp* poisoned! In the very room! Dun dun dunnn! And he managed to get medical help in time but is incapacitated and can't continue with the mission.
Also, sad to see ya go, Khel. Hope yer doin' alright.
Valeros the Pregenerated |
I see Wofguy beat me to the announcement.
A small, unnoticed side door to the chamber opens and a uniformed page approaches Khelreddin. He whispers hurriedly in Khel's ear, and Khel looks at him in some surprise.
"Gentlemen, Lady - it appears the king has other business in mind for me. I regret that I will not be joining you on this mission. I wish you the greatest success - for all of our sakes."
Khel bows to the group, and leaves with the page, hurrying through the side door and closing it quickly behind him.
Sorry all - I really regret having to bow out of this, but I'm being sent to help clean up after Hurricane Sandy - I do hazmat cleanup work - and I'll be working 12-hour days every day for the next 3 weeks or so, and would really be a drag on the start of the campaign - and I leave the country for 3 weeks soon after. This campaign merits much closer attention than I'll be able to give it. Have fun, and I hope I'll get to game with each of you at some point.
Kraymar Hinstulkin |
When Khel is leaving, Kraymar says, I'll see you round the O-club when we get back! Hrmmm... exquisite wine this is...
My mom got lucky with whole Sandy mess, the house she lives was about 20 yards from where all the sand destroyed people's homes, good luck!!!
Negotiations are always a bit tricky, hopefully our counterparts are only saber-rattling, but it shall be a very interesting journey, I do think...
Sigghild |
If anyone is near the main door, you hear the murmur of voices. Two women are apparently having a quiet, but intense discussion. Finally one says "I know, mama, I know." and the door opens.
In walks a woman of average height with bright red hair. Some of you may recognize her as the officer in charge of the door guards when you entered. From a distance she looks quite beautiful, but now that you see her up close she bears the evidence of either hard use or hard fighting. Her armour is of a good quality. She wears a small medallion of Iomedae on her chest.
Behind her, an older, taller woman with erect posture walks past the room down the hall.
She walks deliberately up to the king's representative, hands him a sealed scroll and says "Sigghild Thorvinsdottir reporting for duty, sir." She moves slightly to his side and stands at ease. Her face is an absolute blank, devoid of any emotion.
Ilamin Davenish |
Ilamin says to Krraymar, "Unfortunately, no journey goes quite the way we expect but Iomadae willing, this one will go as well as it can."
Seeing, Sigghild enter the room Ilamin says, "Excuse me, I'd like to go say hello to Sigghild."
Walking to Sigghild, Ilamin says, "Hello Sigghild, it is a pleasure to see you again, outside the church for a change."
Yix |
Ah I forgot to include this, a little 3rd person knowledge of Yix. People that casually know him see him as an old, helpful cat who spends much time traveling. People that are a little more familiar know he's more suspicious than the normal magician in the tower, and he often is a diplomat sent to the underground, where he always seems to have luck. Somebody that has done their research may have found out he was born into a fraternity of assassins, but for reasons known only to him has quit and now seems to be searching for something
mousestalker |
Sigghild stared in dismay as the representative hurried from the room. Right. She had no idea what was going on, but things would likely sort themselves out shortly.
With relief she recognized Inquisitor Ilamin.
"Hello Sigghild, it is a pleasure to see you again, outside the church for a change."
"Likewise. I hope you are well. How are you enjoying the palace?"
Sigghild had no idea what was going on, but she was pretty sure it was part of her job to be polite. Besides she liked the man. He was pursuing a calling she very much respected.
Bryn Goao |
Bryn nods in Khelreddin's direction. "Sorry to see you go. Stay safe."
He likewise introduces himself to Sigghild. "Greetings, Madame. I am Bryn Goao, representative of the Mercantile. I assume you will be joining us on this mission?"
