The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Sure. It's what all the other character's are doing after all, so why not? ;)

thanks :) Im going to take levels in Enchanter (Wizard)6 and Mindbender (10)

That should make for some really fun role-playing

Are you still open to new applicants? It looks like you have a couple of good ones already.

If there's room for another I'd love a chance to work up Buttercup aka Smite with you.

I initially created her as a nerfed Atomie, 1st level character. If you like the concept, I will progress her to mid-teen levels.

Original Concept:

Tiny Fey- Atomie or Pixie (full abilities ok? level adjustment needed?) Whole character concept works off of Atomie descriptor... "Thinks they are larger then they really are." She thinks she's an invincible warrior, but she's actually better at sneaking and scouting.

Inquisitor with Luck Domain & some levels in Rogue

Tiny, But with massive ranks in Intimidate.

Lucky as Hell. (would like access to feats and traits of other races that are luck based if possible)

Slogan is..."Do you feel lucky punk?" Said in a terrifying chipmunk voice.

Mission: to gain enough strength and/or allies to save her magical fey homeland from the Big Bad.

If there's still room, and you like Buttercup's concept, give me guidance on the requests above and I will progress her to "X" level.

Thanks
B/S

Since Gestalt is the same exact number of levels for each class, might I suggest using the Luckbringer from Rite Publishing? Unfortunately, its currently not on d20pfsrd, but I think it might work really well for you.

Also, the level cap for students is I believe 16, so if you wanted, you could go say 12 levels Inquisitor/Luckbringer, and 4 levels Rogue.

Unless you want sneak attack and some tricks, an Infiltrator Inquisitor is a very solid alternative to Rogue, and won't cause you to loose levels.

thanks for the suggestion... I'll take a look.

And thanks for letting me know the character level to build toward.

Since this is a mostly diceless game, how much utility would "roll 2d20, take the best" abilities be? "and add +5 to your d20 rolls for the next round?"

Oh we still make rolls for attacks, damage, and saving throws. So those would still be useful abilities.

I'm so psyched to have finally found a good home for this character.

It'll take me a while to look thru the Inquisitor/ Rogue/ Luckbringer/ Gestalt possibilities. But color me very, very excited.

Oh and how much money to spend on gear?

Do not worry about gear. You can have one or two magic items that are important to your character concept and as much mundane gear as you like, but keep in mind you're not going to be carting a lot of gear around inside the school. And necessary gear is provided for field trips. So you don't have to worry about it if you don't want to.

As I said recently, I have a customized Rod of Lordly Might, a Belt of Many Pouches, and a special spellboook that I got as sort of bonus, which is essential to my concept.

Lyn is a very easygoing GM, and this game is pretty much an anything goes sort. While I haven't actually started playing, Lyn has been such an incredible help with getting my concept just right and has worked with me a TON via PMs.

Thanks for the compliment, monkeygod. Glad I was able to be of help. :)

And if anyone has questions or a concept that needs help to make it workable, please feel free to ask here or in a PM and I will do my best to help. The current players also drop by here from time to time and they can offer great advice too. I really admire and appreciate the creativity of everyone who has been involved in the game so far and I look forward to continuing and adding more players to the fun. :)

So how do you handle stats?

Both Pixie and Atomie have skewed racial stats. (25 dex, 6 str...). I looked thru this thread for character building, but I kept coming up with the "rules, light" response.

I'd just like to end up in the ballpark with the other players~ neither far above nor below them stat-wise.

And regarding race... there are some features of each atomie and pixie that i like. May I cherry pick between them?

With Atomie I particularly like the tiny size (vs. the small of pixie), less powerful, but truer to the original concept.

I also like Atomie's "Reduce Person" ability. I like the theme of challenging someone to a duel, and then shrinking them to my size to carry it out.

From Pixie I like the even better stats, and the sustained invisibility, even while attacking.

Rule of cool for stats. I'll look them over to make sure nothing too crazy. Below 30 I won't even question.

Post got cut off. Hard to post from phone. Anyhow I am good with taking some abilities from each. What you describe sounds reasonable enough.

When I did my stats for "Ace", I figured out the absolute highest I could get for a stat including items, Wish/tome, level increases, and then went from there.

DragonBorn3 told me about this, and it sounds like a lot of fun, so I'm most certainly interested in this. I'm most certainly going to need a lot of help getting started, though, so if anyone would be willing to be patient with me and fill in some major and minor details, I'd love to fill in a slot.

I know its pretty long, but the best thing to do is read the entire recruitment thread. I did and it helped me answer a lot of questions.

However the real basics are this:

There are two roles one can fill: Student or Teacher

Student-You're young for your race, probably no older than the human equivalent of 18, and have a level cap of 16 I believe. As this is a school, you and your fellow classmates are the main focus of the stories.

Teacher-Not sure if there is a minimal age, but the level cap is more or less removed, though I am sure nothing too high would be allowed, but I don't know that for sure. Your role will be important, but more in the background and secondary to the students.

Character Creation

Rule of Cool applies here, in spades. Come up with a concept, then using gestalt rules, recreate it as best you can. Lyn, and I assume, DB3, are really flexible and open minded when helping their players reach as perfect a build as possible for the PCs

Pretty sure any 3.x/Pathfinder book is allowed, as is anything on d20pfsrd. Of course, Lyn/DB3 can veto

For stats, just assign as you see fit. Read my post right above yours to see how I did mine.

You may have one or 2 key magic items for your character, that are central to the concept. Lynora has allowed me to customize a Rod of Lordly Might, so I assume more such customization would be acceptable as well. Again, check with her or DB3.

Mundane gear is as much as you want, but remember, you are student and thus, are not going to actually be carrying around all that much. If you go on a field trip, gear is provided for you.

Important stats to have on your sheet would be Attack, AC, HP, Saves, and some key Skills, though these can be more or less assigned on the fly.

Check the campaign tab for important information There isn't all that much there, in comparison, but it is useful stuff to know, and could help shape your character, depending.

Finally, each player begins with one character, as the game is different than many others. However, once one gets a feel for the style of the game, they may bring in other PCs, and even guest GM for an arc here or there. Lyn asks that you just give her at least a rough outline of what you want to do, so she can figure out how best to place it.

Btw, this was all done from memory. I know these rules well!! LOL

Shadow Lodge

I suggest a slightly edited version Monkeygod's extremely useful post be put in campaign info.

Alright, then...well, I sorta get it, but I'm still new and don't understand some terms and can't seem to find anything, so I'm just hoping that DB3 and/or Lyn can help me get some stuff going. I do have a concept for my character in mind, though.

Basically, I want him to be similar to a Deadman from Deadman Wonderland, where he can control his blood and use it as a weapon. However, he can control what his blood turns into, how hard/sharp it can get (within reason), how much of it is used, etc. In order to use it, though, he has to be bleeding, or else it won't work; the more he's bleeding, however, the more powerful he can get, as he can use more blood. The problem is, he's not perfect with it, so sometimes, his blood won't form properly, won't harden enough, just drop to the floor, or even form into the wrong thing. He also tends to get anemic for a while if he shoots his blood like a bullet, or just loses too much of his blood in general.

As for his personality, he's very, very competitive, almost to the point of obsessing for victory. He has his honor, but he gets...serious. If there's a competition for anything--even if it's something he's not good at, like math or swimming--you can bet he'll enter. At times, he can seem rather dim, though when it comes to fighting or anything that needs strategic movement, his mind really shines, as he knows on most occasions how his power can serve him; whether or not he succeeds mostly depends on whether his power works for him or not.

He can be rather awkward around women, though; if a pretty girl tries to talk to him, he can do one of many things, some of which includes yelling something random, curling in on himself, and on one occasion, punching himself in the face. This seems to only happen with women around his age, though; he isn't too affected by pretty teachers, most of the time, though it can happen if he's not in the classroom.

More to come as things get worked on, hopefully. I need all the help I can get.

Shadow Lodge

Well, I see at least one thing you share with your character... >:P

Yes, yes, I realize I'm not good at math. You don't have to rub it in. =3= But, anyway, I really have no idea where to start with anything, so heavy discussion is going to be necessary if I'm going to stat this guy. I didn't mention a race, because I don't know what race would suit him best, and therefore he doesn't have a name, as it'd be nice if it was a racial name. Probably a silly point, but it's there.

Not really familiar with Deadman wonderland, but my first thought at reading your description of your character's abilities was Chrona from Soul Eater. :)

So, these abilities can be best mimicked I think using the soulknife as a base and tinkering as necessary for flavor. Race can be whatever you like unless there's some specific thing you're going for? The competitive thing makes me think of goliaths from races of stone, but that may be because in our home game we had a goliath character and that aspect of their culture was definitely hammed up a lot.

Also, monkeygod, wow, that is pretty cool, especially from memory! :)

And yes, DB3, I agree, a slightly edited version of that would be helpful in campaign info as an FAQ for new players. I'll try to get that done in the next couple days.

Umbriere Moonwhisper

Female Nymph Dhampir Shadow Bloodline Sorcerer 12//Bard 16

the sorcerer part is added to the nymph base on one tree, and bard represents the other.

Attributes:

Str 14
Con 18
Dex 22
Int 24
Wis 20
Cha 30

Racial Abilities:

as Nymph with the additional property of negative energy affinity and the blood dependancy flaw.

Negative Energy Affinity: as Dhampir

Resist Energy Drain: as Dhampir

Blood Dependency: Young Countess Umbriere Moonwhisper, unlike most nymphs, depends on consuming the blood of others to survive. by drinking a pint of a recently slain, or willing target's blood (dealing 1 point of temporary constitution damage). she may suppress her needs for 24 hours

Swap all positive energy spells on the bard and druid lists for their negative energy counterparts.

Umbriere's Uncle is the Mad Count Maximilian Moonwhisper. an eccentric male whom some regard as a little insane. the man was a former teacher at the avalon academy, teaching about madness and how to harness it as a tool.

Umbriere is her Uncle's only Heir because nobody would ever produce a son with the lunatic, even if he had the money he happens to have. her Younger Sister, Lumiere disinherited herself to become her older sister's personal champion and bodyguard. the twins were adopted by the count and raised to call him 'uncle', though he was more of a father to them.

Umbriere is manipulative in a fashion similar to a puppeteer, always itching to pull somebody's strings to get her way. though sickly, and seemingly sweet and supposedly caring on the surface, in reality, she is rather spoiled and selfish, and her acts of kindness are more like bribes to encourage her classmates to interact with her bratty middle school aged nymph self. this is the 20th time she attended this school out of her personal ritual of completing the school cycle once every century.

Yeah, it is rather similar to Chrona's black blood, only my guy won't really be able to use his abilities if his blood isn't...er, attached to himself, if that makes sense. I suppose I could go with a human for the race, though not sure if a kitsune would also work.

I also don't know what "soulknife" is, though when talking with DB3 earlier today, he said something about a black blood oracle, though I can't remember what he said I should look at to read about them. I also don't know where I should look for that soulknife thing, either.

I'm probably missing out on some things that everyone should know, I feel like, but...well, I don't know. ^^;

The website d20pfrsrd answers all your questions :-)

I soul Knife is a psyonic character that can create a blade of psyonic energy. In my opinion it is the best psyonic class. Look in to it you may like the feel of it for your idea. The link MonkeyGod gave should take you to a place that would have it.

Monkeygod wrote:

Linkified for ease of use. And yes, you can find the soulknife on that site. It is a psionic class and one that I think works for your concept. But if you'd rather do black blood oracle I've no real objection to that. Heck, it's gestalt, you can do both. :)

I find oracle/soulknife to be a good combo. :)

And visually appealing.

Do you have room for another player? I would like to play a vampire

About Valiste Morrette

He was human once, but he became a vampire after being lured into a den after hours and unlike the vampire's that turned him he kept his humanity for the most part. He used necromancy to remove his heart and place it in an obsidian box when he learned of the technique, the result of years of feeding regressed him, and the magic stopped him from aging since then.

Appearance: Red eyes, White hair, Pale skin

There is always room for more!

That said, not sure a Vampire is among those readily accepted. Variations of a sort however are.

Yep, always accepting players. :)

And, yeah, not so keen on the vampire. Dhampir no problem. Full vampire....comes with a hella lotta complications.

I'll change it to a dhampir to make things less complicated then

Shadestrife wrote:

Great, thanks. :)

To keep the flavor and backstory I would suggest maybe something stopped things mid-transformation which is why he still has his soul. So he's sort of permanently caught in between.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

I hear there is a resident necromancer who may be able to help with things...

What would you suggest to stop the transformation midway? Taking out the heart would stop it midway in my mind

Sent PM to DB3 and Lyn for character concept hope to hear back soon.

or should I just post here?

Edward Sobel wrote:

Patience, padawan. :)

I glanced through your stuff earlier, but was in the middle of wading through stuff to get the game going again. That's going to take a while to get through before new characters come in. So don't worry, there's no need to rush. I will do a more thorough readthrough and get back to you with feedback in the next day or so.

ahh.... the wonderful abilities of the Heartless Mage...

ok... just wanted make sure it went through with the way the boards have been the past few days.

Now that I've managed to find/read on both black blooded oracles and soulknives (thank you Monkey and Lyn), I do think that a mix between the two could give me what I'm looking for, more or less. Not sure how I'm even going to write it up (being new to the game tends to do that), but I'm sure I can think of something, given enough reading, and time. I just hope I don't make errors on the stuff that everyone should know. ><;;

I can walk you through character creation. Normally, at this level its a lot of work and takes a fair amount of time, moreso if your new at all, but Lyn only truly requires some basic stats. In that respect, its a very good game for a new player.

As you learn more about the game, what you can do, which abilities are used/matter most, you can add them in.

Thankfully, Soulknife and psionics in general is something I am very familiar with, having been a playtester on the core book.

I thank you for that, Monkey, and gladly accept your offer. Are we going to do that here, or are we going to do that out of sight of everyone else to save me some embarrassment? >w>

Don't worry... the people here are usually nice to new players... so there's no need to be embarrassed that you are learning something new.

Well, if you say so. I'm still probably gonna feel a little awkward, but I'm sure it'll pass. Right now, though, I'm just trying to figure out what mystery would be good for the oracle part, but that's not a very easy task.

Heavens is an awesome mystery, it has a lot of illusion type abilities and some other powers that are cool.... what type of oracle do you want to make?

Well, what I'm going for is a black blooded oracle/soulknife so that he can control his blood and turn it into various things, so I don't think that Heavens will work out too well. Well, maybe it could, but I'm just looking for something that may better serve the main purpose of the character's ability.

how about the "blood and bone" type magic? the bone mystery is evilly awesome and would work great with the type your going for... or if not i have no idea what to suggest...

Eh...that seems more like if I wanted him to be an evil necromancer, and all I really want him to do is beat things up with his blood, or at least let it be useful to him for certain tasks. Maybe the mystery doesn't even matter, though, as I have a feeling that the soulknife part of him is what's really going to be the most dominant, anyway.

We can do it via PM, just for sake of ease, and to not clutter the recruitment thread.

here's a good book to play with blood

I don't really understand how to do the url thingy quite right...
